Walnut Hill Post Office Open Later For Tax Returns

One local post office will be open later than usual today for those last minute tax filers on this April 18 tax deadline.  The Walnut Hill Post Office, located on Highway 99A adjacent to Ernest Ward Middle School, will be open until 6 p.m.

According to the U.S. Postal Service, other area post offices will close today as follows:

  • Century, 4 p.m.
  • McDavid, 4 p.m.
  • Molino, 4 p.m.
  • Cantonment, 4:30 p.m.
  • Gonzalez, 5:00 p.m.
  • Pensacola – Jordan Street, 5:30 p.m.
  • Pensacola – Downtown, 4:30 p.m.
  • Pensacola – East Hill, 4:30 p.m.
  • Myrtle Grove , 4:30
  • Warrington, 4:30 p.m.
  • Jay 4 p.m.
  • Flomaton, 4:15 p.m.
  • Atmore, 4 p.m.

The U.S. Post Office in Walnut Hill is a contract facility operated by Escambia River Electric Cooperative. It normally closes at 3:30 p.m on weekdays.

Strawberry Field Day Is Monday

The 2016 UF/IFAS Extension Strawberry Field Day will be held this Monday at the West Florida Research and Education Center in Jay from 2-4:30 p.m.

Topics for the educational event will include a variety trial, production in a high tunnel versus field production, selling a crop through healthy food preparation and best management practices for vegetable farms.

Disaster Loan Outreach Centers Opening In Century, Pensacola

Disaster Loan Outreach Centers will open Tuesday in Century and Pensacola to assist tornado victims.

The loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration will be available to business, non-profits, churches an individuals that suffered physical or economic losses as result of the EF-3 tornado on February 15 in the Century area or the Feburary 23 EF-3 tornado in the Pensacola area.

The Century Disaster Loan Outreach Center will be at the Century Business Center at 140 East Pond Street  beginning 8 a.m. Tuesday. The center will be open 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, until final closing at 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 21.

The Pensacola location will be open at the West Florida Regional Planning Council office at 4081 East Olive Road, Suite A. The office will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday until final closing on 3 p.m. on  Thursday, April 21.

Both locations will be closed on Sunday, April 17.

The types of loans available include:

  • Business Physical Disaster Loans – Loans to businesses to repair or replace disaster-damaged property owned by the business, including real estate, inventories, supplies, machinery and  equipment. Businesses of any size are eligible. Private, non-profit organizations such as charities, churches, private universities, etc., are also eligible.
  • Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) – Working capital loans to help small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture, and most private, non-profit organizations of all sizes meet their ordinary and necessary financial obligations that cannot be met as a direct result of the disaster. These loans are intended to assist through the disaster recovery period.
  • Home Disaster Loans – Loans to homeowners or renters to repair or replace disaster-damaged real estate and personal property, including automobiles.

Applicants must have a credit history acceptable to the SBA and the ability to repay all loans. Collateral is required for physical loss or economic injury disaster loans over $25,000. Loan terms range up to 30 years with interest rates from 1.813 to 6.25 percent.

Only uninsured or otherwise uncompensated disaster losses are eligible.

It is anticipated that the SBA will open an application assistance center in Century by the middle of next week. NorthEscambia.com will publish office hours and location once announced.
