Century To Swear In New Mayor Tonight
January 2, 2017
The Town of Century will swear in it s first new mayor in nine years tonight.
Henry Hawkins defeated incumbent two-term mayor Freddie McCall. He will be sworn in at 7 p.m. during a regular council meeting. The meeting has been moved from the town hall to the Century Community Center. The venue change was made to allow an expected larger than normal crowd to attend the meeting for to see Hawkins take office.
The second town council meeting of January has been moved from January 16 to Monday, January 23 at 7 p.m. at the Century Town Hall. The meeting was rescheduled due to the Martin Luther King Day holiday.

Escambia Property Tax Discount Ends Today

Escambia County Tax Collector Janet Holley reminds everyone that the three percent discount on payment of real estate and tangible personal property taxes ends Saturday, December 31.
To receive the three percent discount, payments must be:
· mailed with a December postmark;
· left by midnight, December 31, in a 24-hour drop box available at all locations; or
· made online by midnight CST, December 31 at EscambiaTaxCollector.com.
Since all offices are closed December 31, January 1 and 2, customers who make their payment in person at any tax collector office on Tuesday, January 3, will receive the three percent discount, however, their payment will be dated January 3, 2017 not December 31, 2016.
