Quintette Pedestrian Accident Claims One Life; FHP Seeks Clues To Man’s Identity

A pedestrian accident early Thursday morning in the Quintette area has claimed one life., and the Florida Highway Patrol is seeking the victim’s identify.

The accident happened on East Quintette Road just off Highway 95A about 2 a.m.

According to FHP, a 2007 Toyota Cruiser driven by Trenton Rhodes was traveling west on Quintette Road when he struck a white male pedestrian that for an unknown reason was in the west bound lane. The pedestrian was transported by Escambia County EMS to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola where he later passed away.

The victim’s identity is unknown, and he FHP is  asking for the public’s help in identifying the man.

The victim was walking on Quintette Road at 2 a.m. and is described as a white male between the ages of 25-30. He had black hair and was wearing black jeans and tan work boots. He had  white cell phone and white ear phones. Anyone that might know his identity is asked to call the FHP at (850) 484-5000 or email davidtodd@flhsmv.gov.

The Cantonment Station of Escambia Fire Rescue also responded to the accident.

The Century Town Council decided Monday night to hold a joint workshop with the Century Area Chamber of Commerce at 6:00 tonight to received project ideas from the chamber and the public. The council will then hold a special meeting at 7:00 p.m. to vote on five projects to submit to the county for possible funding.

Activities eligible for funding include ad valorem tax rate reductions, workforce skill development, local funding match requirements, public infrastructure projects, equipment and personnel for local disaster action plans, promotion of tourism and workforce and educational career development programs.

We can’t guarantee that every submitted idea will be presented, as our time may be limited by the council. The meetings are open to the public, and any member of the public may attend the meeting and present their ideas subject to council rules.

Former State Sen. Greg Evers Killed In Car Crash

Former State Senator Greg Evers was killed in single vehicle accident near Baker in Okaloosa County. He was 62.

Authorities said he ran off Griffith Mill Road near Baker sometime late Monday. He apparently missed a curve and his car was found submerged in a creek.
“On behalf of the family of former state Sen. Greg Evers, it is with great sadness that we announce his passing,” spokeswoman Sarah Bascom said in a prepared statement. “The family asks for your prayers as they deal with this sudden loss.”

Bascom said the accident occurred near Baker, where Evers, 62, had a farm. She said funeral arrangements would be announced later.

Deputies Nab Burglary Suspect In Bratt

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office nabbed a burglary suspect Monday night in Bratt.

Deputies were responding to a reported burglary in progress at a home on West Highway 4 near Northview High School in Bratt when they spotted 33-year old Stoney T. Mason about 10:20 p.m.. He was taken into custody in a ditch directly adjacent to the highway.

He had reportedly tried to enter a home through a back door while the occupants were at home.

Mason was charged with second degree felony burglary of an occupied structure, according to jail records. He was being held in the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $10,000.

Escambia Deputies Looking For Missing Teenager

UPDATE: Rayeisha Devoanah Cokes has been located.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a missing teen.

Rayeisha Devoanah Cokes was reported missing on August 20th. She was last on seen on Arcadia Road near Nine Mile Road. She was wearing a black-short sleeved shirt with black and white patterned leggings and a blue muli-colored backpack. Rayeisha takes daily medication and did not take her medicine with her.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to all the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620.

The Great American Eclipse has peaked in the North Escambia area. Many missed the peak due to cloud cover.

Exact Eclipse Times For Your Location, Public Viewing Spots

Today’s eclipse begins locally just afternoon noon and ends around 3:00. The exact time of  the maximum eclipse varies by location; see the list below for the exact time for the location nearest you in the North Escambia area.

Don’t want to watch the eclipse alone, Here are public viewing locations:

  • E.G. Owens Planetarium, PSC Pensacola, 11:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. — telescopes with solar filters, a limited number of eclipse glasses available.
  • PSC Warrington, 12 p.m. until 3 p.m., parking lot between Buildings 3100 and 3400 — safe viewing reflection, limited number of eclipse glasses.
  • Blue Wahoos Stadium, noon until 3 p.m., limited number of eclipse glasses, “race the eclipse around the bases”, moon pies, concession stand open for lunch.
  • West Florida Library, 239 Spring Street location only — free solar view glasses while supplies last, telescope set up.
  • Atmore – Heritage Park, none through eclipse time -  telescope set up, limited number of eclipse glasses
