Blood Drive Tuesday For Tate High Students

Miss Ernest Ward Pageant Is Tonight

The 2017 Miss Ernest Ward Pageant will be held at 6:00 this evening in the Ernest Ward Middle School gym.

Registration Continues At NWE, Century, Cantonment Ballparks

Registration is underway at the Century Little League, Northwest Escambia Bradberry Park and the Cantonment Sportsplex.

Century Little League

Registration for the Century Little League 2018 baseball and softball season will be held at Showalter Park in Century as follows:

Saturday January  27, 9 a.m. – noon
Thursday February 1,  6-8 p.m.
Saturday February 3, 9 a.m. – noon

The registration fee is $50 for the first child, $45 for each additional sibling. Teams are available for ages 4 and up. A birth certificate copy is needed for sign-up.

Northwest Escambia Bradberry Park

Cantonment Sportsplex

Registration continues today at the Cantonment Sportsplex from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or register online at www.cantonmentsportsplex.org.

Only two more opportunities remain for in person registration, this Saturday and next Saturday, February 3 from 9-1 at the Cantonment Sportsplex in the board room.

Two Large Controlled Burns Planned In North Escambia Today

There are several controlled burns planned in the North Escambia area today, including two large burns near Walnut Hill and Barrineau Park.

The Northwest Florida Water Management District a conducting a 142 acre prescribed burn between the Perdido River and Jacks Branch Road, south of Fillingim Landing and mostly north of Lawson Lane. The burn area is shown with hatch marks in the map above, while the predicted smoke plume is shown in the dotted areas (click to enlarge).

Arrest Made In Escambia County’s First Homicide Of 2018

January 26, 2018

An Escambia County man was arrested Friday for a Tuesday murder in the Myrtle Grove area of Escambia County.

Lyntonio De’Shawn Quinn, 22, was charged with homicide-murder while engaged in certain felony offense, home invasion robbery and home invasion with a firearm.

Deputies responded to a call of a shooting victim around 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday on 48th Avenue near Elsa Avenue.

When deputies arrived they found 27-year-old David Washington dead on the side of the road. Washington and three other people are believed to have committed what appeared to be a drug-related home invasion, deputies said.

During the home invasion, the sheriff’s office said Washington was shot and killed.

This was the first homicide of 2018 in Escambia County.
