Storm Closures And Cancellations: Schools, Trash Pickup, Youth Sports And More

The following closures and schedule changes have been announced for Tuesday due to Tropical Storm Gordon.
Schools
- Escambia County (FL) Schools will be closed on Tuesday.
- Santa Rosa County schools will close for a half day, all after-school activities to include community school/latch key kid program will also be closed. Schools will resume as scheduled on Wed., Sept. 5. For the early release schedule, click here.
- Pensacola State will be closed on Tuesday, September 4, and will reopen on Wednesday, September 5.
- All UWF locations will be closed on Tuesday, Sept. 4. This includes all classes, events, campus activities and online courses.
- Pensacola Christian Academy classes are canceled for Tuesday. Afternoon and evening activities are also canceled. PCA is currently scheduled to resume on Wednesday.
- Byrneville Elementary School will be closed
- Camp Fire Century will be closed
- Coastal Alabama Community College – All night classes on all campuses are canceled on Tuesday.
- Creative Learning Academy will be closed on Tuesday.
- Catholic High School will be closed on Tuesday.
- East Hill Christian will be closed on Tuesday.
- Aletheia Christian Academy will be closed on Sept. 4
- Escambia Christian School will be closed on Sept 4.
- Sacred Heart Cathedral School will be closed on Sept. 4
- Little Flower Catholic School will be closed on Sept. 4
- Episcopal Day School of Pensacola will be closed on Sept. 4
- Lighthouse Christian Academy has closed all campuses for Sept. 4.
- Montessori School will be closed on Tuesday.
- Escambia Academy (Canoe, AL) releases at 11:30 a.m. All athletic games for Tuesday are canceled.
- ECUA — Normal pick up schedules for now. The situation will be evaluated Tuesday morning and and changes will be posted here.
- A Town of Century budget workshop set for Tuesday has been canceled. Town Hall will close at noon.
- Naval Air Station Pensacola (NASP), Corry Station and Saufley Field will curtail normal operations and close to all visitors and non-essential personnel at 7 a.m. Tuesday. All facilities on board the base, including Child Development Center, Youth Center and all tourist attractions, e.g., National Naval Aviation Museum, Lighthouse, Ft Barrancas, etc. will be closed. All employees should contact supervisors for specific information or guidance.
- Gulf Islands National Seashore at Ft. Pickens and Perdido Key closed at 10 a.m.
- Northview’s Mini Cheer Clinic that was scheduled for Tuesday has been rescheduled to Wednesday. The clinic will continue on Wednesday from 4:00 – 5:30 as long as school resumes.
- NWE Football and Cheer photos have been rescheduled for Thursday, Sept. 20.
- Cantonment Youth Sports practices for ALL teams Tuesday and Wednesday are canceled. Practice will also be cancel Thursday to allow families to attend Open House for grades K-8. Practice will resume on Friday, September 7th at the usual time, weather permitting. Cantonment football will practice Wednesday and the rest of the week as scheduled.

Potential Tropical Storm Moving Toward Northern Gulf; Tropical Storm Watch Issued

The National Hurricane Center has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for portions of the central Gulf Coast from the Alabama-Florida border westward to east of Morgan City, LA. Tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area by Tuesday night and Wednesday.
Potential Tropical Cyclone 7could become Tropical Storm Gordon within the next day or so. Impacts are likely to start by Tuesday though much uncertainty remains in the intensity of the system.
There is a limited threat of flooding due to heavy rain with very gusty winds possible to the right of the track. Our latest local forecast highlights this potential for widespread 2 to 4 inches of rain with isolated higher amounts.

Get Your Important Documents, Photos Digitized Today At Molino Library

Saturday is “Save Yourself Digitization Day” at the Molino Branch Library.
The library will help residents get their personal important documents and photos digitized. Patrons can receive a half hour session with a library specialist who will scan and save items to a flash drive.
The library will provide the flash drives and the technology from 10:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Call the Molino Branch Library at (850) 435-1761 for more information. Drop-ins are welcome on a first come, first serve basis.
Another Digitization Day will be held September 18 from noon until 4:30 p.m. at the Century Branch Library.

Two Candidates In Runoff For Century Town Council Seat
August 28, 2018
There will be a runoff for Century Town Council Seat Seat 4 between Mary Hudson Bourgeois and James Smith, Jr. after no candidate received half the vote Tuesday. They will be on the November ballot.
Complete, but unofficial vote totals from Tuesday’s election are:
- James Smith, Jr. – 160
- Mary Hudson Bourgeois – 146
- Brian Johnston – 19
Incumbent Gary Riley tearfully announced in May that he would not seek re-election to the seat he has held for 20 years.
Escambia Voter Turnout Approaches 25 Percent; Polls Open Until 7:00

Escambia County was approaching a 24 percent voter turnout by about 3:00 Tuesday afternoon, according to the Escambia County Supervisor of Elections Office.
Most polling places were reported to have little or no waiting.
