Camp Fire Century Learning Center To Celebrate First Year

The Camp Fire USA Gulf Wind Council will celebrate the first anniversary of the Century Early Learning Center next today.
The entire community is welcome to take part in the celebration that will include a variety of events including games, activities like a bounce house for the children, and barbecue for sale.
“Camp Fire USA Gulf Wind Council is dedicated to providing quality learning experiences to the children in Century, said Tammy Byrer, Camp Fire USA program director. National, about 750,000 children and youth take part in Camp Fire programs annual.
The celebration event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m today.

Master Gardener Day Today

The Escambia County Master Gardeners will host a Spring Garden Festival Vendor Day today from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Extension Office, 3740 Stefani Road in Cantonment.
Many local nurseries and businesses will showcase plants, garden accessories and other gardening-related items. Home gardeners will be able to purchase high quality plants from local sources. Master Gardeners will lead tours and answer questions.
Featured plants include Japanese maples, flowering trees, shrubs, perennials, tropicals, natives and hanging baskets.
Firefighters Invited To Attend Play For Free

All North Escambia firefighters are invited to attend a Drama Club play for free tonight at Ernest Ward Middle School.
Principal Nancy Gindl-Perry is extending the invitation as a “thank you” for the response to a lightning strike at her school this afternoon.
Firefighters and one guest each may attend for free by showing an official ID at door.

Performing Arts Spring Concert Tonight

The Northview Performing Arts Spring Concert will take place this evening.
Performers will include members of the the Northview chorus, guitar ensemble and jazz combo.
Music will include popular American music from Gershwin to Hendrix to George Strait.
Admission is $1. The concert begins at 6:00.
Beware Stranger Danger

The Century Branch Library will host a special child safety event “Beware, Stranger Danger” Thursday afternoon.
The program will be presented in collaboration with the Gulf Coast Kid’s House and the Pensacola Public Library. The program will teach safety techniques and habits to children and parents.

Spring Band Concert Tonight

The Northview High and Ernest Ward Middle schools will hold their annual Spring Band Concert tonight at Northview High School.
The event begins at 6:30. The NHS Alumni Band, made up of former Northview, Ernest Ward and Century high band members, will also perform.
Letter Carrier Food Drive Today, Help The Hungry

Last year, North Escambia area residents contributed over 20,000 pounds of food at their mailboxes for the Stamp Out Hunger food drive, and today is the time to do it again.
Mail carriers will be collecting food tomorrow at mailboxes across North Escambia and across the nation for the 17th annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive.
Residents can participate in the annual event by leaving a bag of nonperishable food by their mailboxes for their mail carrier to collect.
NALC Food Drive is a national food drive sponsored by the Letter Carrier’s Union and conducted annually all over the country on the same day. The local NALC drive benefits ACTS Ministries, Bay Area Food Bank, Manna Food Pantries, St. Vincent de Paul, Warrington Emergency Aid and We Care Ministry. For Manna, it is the largest food drive of the year and comprises almost 30 percent of annual food donations.
Here’s a breakdown of the food collected last year along the routes at each North Escambia area post office:
- Cantonment: 14,098 pounds
- Century: 1,906 pounds
- Jay: 1,998 pounds
- McDavid: 2,000 pounds
- Molino: 608 pounds

Yard Sales Today To Benefit NHS Band, Ernest Ward Middle School

Two big Saturday yard sales will benefit area schools.
Ernest Ward Middle School is holding a Super Yard Sale at the school today until 2 p.m. There will also be a silent auction for half hog cut and wrapped. Click here for more info on the silent auction.
The Northview High School Band Booster Yard Sale is going on today at the VFW on Ashley Street in Atmore. Directions: Heading north on Main Street, turn left on Ridgeley Street (one block north of the railroad tracks). Turn right at the stop sign, go one block and look for the building with the flag.

Fish Fry, Bake Sale Today In Molino

Aldersgate United Methodist Church will hold a fish fry and bake sale today at the church from 11:00 to 1:30.
The Aldersgate UMC Men’s Fish Fry will include fried mullet with baked beans, cole slaw, hush puppies and a slice of cake for dessert. Plates are $7 each and proceeds will support the Aldersgate UMM Missions.
The Ladies Bible Study and Sunday School class will also have many types of baked goodies for sale including pies, cakes and cookies. Be sure to pick up some of these delicious baked goods to go with your fried fish dinner.
The church is located in Molino on Highway 29 just south of Highway 97.
