Sandy Marie Calloway, age 37, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2009 in Flomaton, Ala. She was a native and lifelong resident of Flomaton and attended the Holiness Church.Mrs. Calloway is survived by her husband, Dennis Calloway of Flomaton; her son, Dylan Calloway of Flomaton; her father, Eddie Davidson of Brewton, Ala.; her mother, Maxine Creamer of Pollard, Ala.; a brother, Jason and Brandi Davidson of Flomaton; grandmother, Daisy Childress of Flomaton; an aunt, Marie King of Flomaton; an uncle, Shelby King of Flomaton; two nieces, Jayda Davidson and Julie Davidson, both of Flomaton; and a nephew, Tyler Davidson of Flomaton.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 30, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. James Pugh officiating. Burial followed at Pollard Cemetery.

The family received friends Sunday, November 29, 2009 between 6 and 9 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Denver Graves, Chris Chandler, Hub Wilson, Jason Davidson, Donnie Davidson, and Wayne Lucas.

Lemmie Frances Goodson

Mrs. Lemmie Frances Goodson, 72, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at a Santa Rosa County hospital.

Mrs. Goodson was a native of Jay, FL and a resident of Century, FL for most of her life. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother and attended the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church. Preceded in death by her Husband, John Goodson and a Daughter, Teresa Wells.

Survivors Include: two Sons, Jonathan Wells of Century, FL, and James Wells of Brewton, AL; a Daughter, Dianne Burkett of Byrneville, FL; 4 Grandchildren; 3 Great-Grandchildren; a Sister, Chiquita Mathis of Century, FL; and numerous Nieces and Nephews that were near and dear to her heart.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 29, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at the Abundant Life Assembly of God with Bro. Gilbert Cozart officiating.

Burial will follow at Flomaton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 28, 2009 between 6:00 and 9:00 P.M. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Nick Mathis, Michael McDonald, Wesley Simmons, Brandon Dannelley, Dennis Mathis, Danny Branson and Bobby Mathis.

Dr. Thomas A. Rice, Jr.

Dr. Thomas A. Rice, Jr., 53, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2009 in Atmore, AL.

Dr. Rice was a native of Ft. Rucker, AL, a former resident of Enterprise, AL, and a resident of Atmore, AL for the past 27 years. He was the owner of Thomas A. Rice Family Dentistry of Atmore, a member of the American Dental Association and the Tennessee Walking Horse Association and attended the Brook’s Memorial Baptist Church. Preceded in death by his Father, Thomas Alvin Rice, Sr.

Survivors Include: his wife Karen Daw Rice of Atmore, AL; his Mother, Emma Gay Rice of Enterprise, AL; a Son, Alex Rice of Atmore, AL; a Daughter, Jordayn Rice of Atmore, AL; two Sisters, Jo and Phil Marsom of Greensboro, NC and Tammy and Mike Kirkland of Douglasville, GA; and a number of Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. James Boyd officiating.

Burial followed at Sardis Cemetery.

Visitation was held Wednesday, November 25, 2009 from 12:30 P.M. until funeral time at the Petty-Eastside Chapel.

Pallbearers were Phil Marsom, Mike Kirkland, Zack Kirkland, David Daw, Joshua Daw, and Cody Mooney.

James Plair

November 23, 2009

James Plair, born May 4, 1920, went to his heavenly home on Sunday, November 22, 2009, surrounded by his family.

He was a World War II veteran, and retired from Champion Paper Co. in 1985. He was loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends. He would always do for others whenever he could, always thinking of others first. He loved fishing and hunting and being with his family. He worked many years in the nursery at First Baptist Church of Cantonment, and showed love and support to many young children, who were constantly coming by, giving him hugs during his last few years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wes and Mollie Plair; brothers, Jeff, Ralph, Grady and Bobby Plair; sisters, Elizabeth Raiford and Velonia Adams; and granddaughter, Shelley Parker.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 64 years, Lois T. Plair; son, James “Buddy” Plair (TJ); daughters, Delores Coleman (Don) and Linda Williams (Ronnie); adopted son, Doug Patterson; and adopted daughter, Patsy Hill. He had five grandchildren, Jamie, Walker, Jeff, Vince, and Missy; six great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME NORTH 1000 Hwy 29, Cantonment, with Reverend Larry Huff and Reverend Drayton Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Spruell Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be James Peacock, Ronnie Butts, Bobby Plair, David Player, Tony Langford, Jeffrey Jinright, and Billy Dortch. Honorary pallbearers will be Irvin Hanks, Kenneth Ray Smith, W.T. Gilley, Newton Barnes, Larry White, Herschel Hill, Ken Born, and Wayne Milligan.

Viewing will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24 at Faith Chapel North.

Mattie Lou Lagos

November 23, 2009

Mattie Lagos, age 80 of Cantonment, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2009 at her home.

Mrs. Lagos was born August 18, 1929 in Loxley, AL to Jessie and Anna Nims Middleton. Mrs. Lagos was a member of Farm Hill United Methodist church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Box of AZ.

Mattie is now survived by her husband, Gene Lagos; three daughters, Carolyn Stewart (Ronnie), Jackie Box Myers (Tim), and Mary Moye Dease (Rex); one son, Joe Kittrell (Elouise); five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Shirley Middleton; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 27, 2009 at FAITH CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME NORTH, 1000 Hwy 29, Cantonment with Rev. Terry Carmoney officiating. Interment will follow at Clear Springs Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Faith Chapel North from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital.

J. H. McCurdy

November 11, 2009

Mr. J. H. McCurdy, age 74, of Century, FL was received into eternal life Saturday, November 7, 2009 at Century Care Center where he was receiving physical therapy. Herbert was born on August 26, 1935 at his family’s home in Century and he resided there his entire life. He was a hard worker and he helped his family run McCurdy Diary for many years while operating the “Dairy Bar Cafe.” Later, he was employed at Container Paper Mill in Brewton, AL as a chemical engineer and retired in 2007 after 42 years. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Barbara Joan vanMerkestyn McCurdy for 54 years. He was a member of Century United Methodist Church for the majority of his life.

Funeral Services will be at Century United Methodist Church on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 3pm with the Rev. Janet Lee officiating. Interment will be at McCurdy Cemetery in Century, FL.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara J. McCurdy, of Century, FL; neice, Ericka Register (J.B.) Nelson, of Century, FL; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Coy Register, of McDavid, FL; other family members, Suzanne McCurdy Pelzer, Bennie (Jennifer) McCurdy, Donnie (Ruby) McCurdy and family; his friend of 26 years, Ms. Janet Lee; special Kentucky friends, Laura Beth Lee, Chad Rogers and family, the James Rushing family; one uncle, two aunts, and many special cousins.

Pallbearers will be Chad Bryant, Robert Engllish, Coy Campbell, Charlie Brown, Ed Horne, Ken McCurdy, Jack Neal and J.R. Jones. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bobby Joe Lee, Mike Barberi, Ray Rydzowski, Larry Jones and John Kimbrough.

Visitation was held Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at the Flomaton Funeral Home.

Lonia was a native and lifelong resident of Atmore, AL. She was a loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother, loved to travel, and attend family gatherings and attended the Friendly Holiness Church. Preceded in death by her Parents, Howard Dewitt and Hattie Mae Mcghee, Sr. and a Niece, Ashkia Williams.

Survivors Include: her Husband, Tony Ray Norman of Atmore, AL; her Son, Justin Anthony Norman of Atmore, AL; her Step-Daughter, Ashley Fontenot of LA; 2 Grandchildren, Jonathan Tyler Sells and Jasmine Norman, both of Atmore, AL; four Brothers, Howard Dewitt McGhee, Jr., Gary Dewayne McGhee, and Gordon Dewayne McGhee, all of Atmore, AL, and William Daniel McGhee of Brewton, AL; and four Sisters, Georgia Lee Griffey, Cynthia Wright, Juanita Slate and Lena Marie White, all of Atmore, AL.

John R. Garrett, Jr

Mr. John R. Garrett, Jr., 80, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2009, in Century, FL.

John was a native and former resident of Bluff Springs, FL, a resident of Century for the past 53 years, a loving friend, Brother, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather and attended the Baptist Church. He was a cub scout leader for a number of years, a Mason with Pineland Lodge #286 in Palatka, FL, a Shriner and a U.S. Army Veteran. Preceded in death by his Wife, Alice Marie Garrett.

Survivors Include: his Son, John Thomas Garrett of Palatka, FL; his Daughter, Debbie Wyman of Palatka, FL; 2 Grandchildren; 2 Great-Grandchildren; a very special devoted and loving friend, Ms. Louise Trawick; three Sisters, Martha Sims of Century, FL, Louise Dockens of McDavid, FL, and Duffie Wells of Century, FL; a Sister-in-law, Margie Garrett of Century, FL; a special Nephew, Steve Garrett; 3 special Nieces, Susan Lowery, Ann Burkett, and Gail Chavers of Christian Home, FL; and a number of other Nieces and Nephews.

Losson K. White

November 1, 2009

Losson K. White, age 77, having fought the good fight and keeping the faith, was called home on October 30, 2009. He graduated in 1950 from Ernest Ward High School at Walnut Hill, Florida. The class motto, ‘Not merely to exist, but to amount to something in Life’ was captured completely during his earthly time.

He was born to Roy and Lanie White in Byrneville, Florida on February 24, 1932. He attained everything in this life he desired. He was of the Baptist Faith, a member of The Masonic Temple and The Shriner Organization. He served his community in various leadership roles between 1977 and the present.

Losson married his wife of 58 years on June 26, 1951, retired after proudly serving his country for 27 years in the Air Force as a CMSGT from 1950 through 1977. Losson and Bobbie have two children, Kenneth and Lori White, and Glenda and Donald Butler, six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one brother, three brother-in-laws, two sisters-in-law, eight nieces and nephews, friends too numerous to count and his church family.

Funeral services will be held at 8:00 am on Monday, November 2, 2009 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North-Cantonment with the Rev. Ted Bridges officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, David Haid, John Haid, Losson White, Greg Haid, and nephews, Chad and Wade Kent. Honorary pallbearers will be Darrel White, Hal O’Farrell, Jerry Kent, Ellis O’Farrell, Ernie Hester, Billy Ward and Freddie Pitt.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, November 1, 2009 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.

The family requests no flowers; however, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital or Covenant Hospice.

We wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to the nurses and doctors at West Florida Hospital and Covenant Hospice that provided our husband and dad the special care needed during this time of illness. Manda Clarke, the only granddaughter was instrumental in his care and guidance during the final stages of his illness.
