Annie Redmond, 80, of Walnut Hill, died Friday, September 3.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 11, at 1 p.m. at Gospel Temple Number Two in Atmore. Viewing will be held on Friday, September 10, from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Edward and Alice Bradford

The devoted husband and wife of fifty-eight years were involved in a tragic automobile accident on August 30th, 2010. Alice B. Bradford passed away later that evening after surgery. Edward M. Bradford passed away peacefully on September 3rd.

Edward was preceded in death by his brother George Bradford and sisters Helen Hess and Virginia Balfe. Alice was preceded in death by her brother Robert Bradley.
They are survived by their children Edward Jr. (Ellen) of Aberdeen, NC, Mary Metcalf of Centreville, VA, Patricia Dix of Vienna, VA, William Bradford of New York, NY, and James Bradford (Patience) of Birmingham, AL; grandsons Ryan Dix and Fletcher Bradford as well as great-granddaughter Grace Dix. Alice is also survived by sister Jane Beeman (Don) of Salem, NY.

Edward, a native of New York City, graduated from St. Johns College. He joined the Army in 1949 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Infantry in March of 1951. Over a distinguished 31-year military career he served in command and staff positions throughout the United States and Germany, including combat tours in Korea and Vietnam. He attended the Army Command and General Staff College and his final assignment was Editor-in-Chief of Military Review Magazine. Upon retirement in 1980 he joined the faculty of Marion Military Institute and retired in 1993 as Vice President and moved to Pensacola, FL. He was an active member of Lions International, The Society of Mayflower Descendants, The Knights of Columbus and The Military Officers Association of America.

Alice, a native of Brooklyn, NY, graduated from Long Island College Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She was a dedicated and selfless Army wife, volunteer and health-care provider. Alice brought her nursing skills to hospitals in communities and military posts throughout the United States, serving as a Public Health Nurse and Director of Nursing. As a military and community volunteer, she was active with thrift shops, Army Wives Clubs, The Arlington Ladies, Pineglades Garden Club and local hospitals and churches.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, September 8th at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North located at 1000 Highway 29 South, Cantonment, FL.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church on Thursday, September 9th at 11:00 am; interment with full military honors to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery aboard Naval Air Station Pensacola.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org/donate) or a charity of your choice.

Evelyn Bohannon Little Ellis

Mrs. Evelyn Bohannon Little Ellis, 77, after 2 months of being bed ridden is now walking the Streets of Gold. She left this world of pain and suffering to be with the Lord on August 28, 2010.

Mrs. Ellis was a native of Uriah, AL, and resident of Atmore, AL for several years. She worked as an LPN for Dr. Harold Q. Wilson and at Greenlawn (Atmore Community) Hospital. Her gift of caring for others never ceased, the lives she touched were many and she will be greatly missed. Preceded in death by two Husbands, Charles Kirven Little and William Kenneth Ellis, a Sister, Margie Weaver, and two Brothers, Howard Bohannon and Jack Bohannon.

She will be sadly missed by her Son, Donald W. Little, Sr. (Erica) of Atmore, AL; four Grandsons, Donald W. Little, Jr. (serving our country overseas), Kervin Leigh Little (Jennifer) of Pensacola, FL, Joshua Andrew Husband of Atmore, AL, and Joseph Michael Husband of Atmore, AL; her Great-Granddaughter, Hannah Marie Gibbs of Pensacola, FL; and several Nieces, Nephews and many Friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Grindle officiating and Petty Funeral Homes, LLC. directing.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2010 between 6:00 and 9:00 P.M. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Royce H. Ward

Royce H. Ward, 78, of Walnut Hill, died Wednesday August 25, 2010, at his residence. He was a retired farmer and cattleman, born in Escambia County, Fla., on January 31, 1932, to the late Horace and Minnie Lou Morgan Ward.

He was a lifelong member of the Walnut Hill Baptist Church, a graduate of University of Florida, served in the Navy for four years as lieutenant, a charter member of the Walnut Hill Fire Department, and president of the Walnut Hill Ruritian Club.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, Marshall Ward and Ernest Ward. Survivors are his wife, Marilyn Ward, of Walnut Hill; three sons, Brett Ward and wife, Susan of Walnut Hill, Horace Ward and wife, Lisa of Birmingham, Scott Ward and wife, Beth of Springhill, Fla.; one daughter, Luanne Tharp and fiance Bill Henderson of Walnut Hill; one brother, Billy G. Ward of Walnut Hill; one sister, Willodean Bingham of Pensacola; 10 grandchildren, Heath Ward, Stacey Ward, Morgan Ward, Arden Ward, Zachary Ward, Eric Ward, Megan Tharp, Caroline Ward, Jake Ward, Ben Ward; one great-granddaughter, Laila; many friends and relatives.

Services were held Sunday August 29, 2010, at 2 p.m. from Walnut Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Ted Bridges, Rev. LaDon Hall, Rev. James Boyd and Rev. Jerry Peebles officiating. Interment followed in the Walnut Hill Baptist Church cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Heath Ward, Zachary Ward, Eric Ward, Rob Faircloth, Bill Strickland and Ross Ward. Honorary pallbearers were the Walnut Hill Baptist Church adult men’s Sunday school class, Howard Shell, Jimmy Davis, Jerry Till, Johnny Till, Jon Garrard, Jim Van Pelt and George Van Pelt.

Family received friends, Saturday evening August 28, 2010, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Clifton Willie Roosevelt Dixon

Mr. Clifton Willie Roosevelt Dixon, 63, of Flomaton transitioned into eternal rest on Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, at Jay Hospital.

He was a native of Flomaton, was retired from CSX Railroad Transportation as a welder, and he had worked for Masland Carpets. He attended school at Southern Normal in Brewton and was a member and deacon at Fannie Baptist Church in Flomaton.

His parents, Clifton and Inez Dixon Sr.; one sister, Lily McCory and one brother, Bernard Dixon Sr., preceded him in death.

Those left to cherish the memories of his life include his wife, Barbara Ann Dixon of Flomaton; one son, the Rev. Roosevelt Dixon of Flomaton; two daughters, Lynell Dixon and Winel Dixon, both of Flomaton; four sisters, Callie (Clay) Newsome and Eleanor (Mike) McGill, both of Flomaton and Minnie Golsten and Inez Blair, both of Evergreen; two brothers, Jimmy (Prescilla) Dixon of Flomaton and Elbert (Barbara) Dixon of Century; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 2010 at the Fannie Baptist Church in Flomaton with the Rev. Horace Young, eulogist and the Rev. Hiraim Stanton, pastor officiating. Retirement of his remains will be in the Fannie/Damascus Cemetery in Flomaton.

Bernie Ray Smith

Bernie Ray Smith, 83 of Atmore, Al died Tuesday August 24, 2010,  in Atmore. He was owner of S.& O Paint and Body. He was  born to the late Ernie Aquilla and Lucy McElhaney Smith.

He was preceded in death by six sisters, Ernestine Smith, Gladys Owens, Normie Owens, Margaret Watkins, Mildred Mixon and Ruby Currie and one half sister, Flora Dees.

He was survived by his is wife, Margaret Strawbridge Smith of Atmore; three sons, Timothy Gary Smith and wife, Susan, Joel Crawford Smith, Marcus Collier Smith and wife Dee all of Mobile; one daughter, Pamela Smith Watson and husband Tom of Mobile; three sisters, Thelma Drew of Atmore, Lillian Davis of Davisville,  Betty Byrne of Columbus, Ga.; one brother, John Earnest Smith and wife, Sherry of Molino; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services were held Thursday August 26, 2010 at 11 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Diane Everette officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Ken McElhaney, John McElhaney, Marvin Risher, Leo Odom, Johnny Johnson and David Tillery.

The family received friends, Thursday August 26, 2010, At Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

Noah A Yoder

Noah A Yoder, 91, of Atmore died Tuesday August 24, 2010, in Atmore. He was the president of Gold Crown Campers. Yoder born in Homes County, Ohio on March 1, 1919, to the late Andy and Amanda Troyer Yoder.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ida D. Yoder and son Romon “Sunny” Yoder.

Survivors include two sons, Paul Yoder of Atmore and John Yoder and wife Brenda of Huntsville, Ala.; two daughters, Miriam Classen and husband Roy of Walnut Hill and Barbara Ward and husband James of Flomaton; one sister, Amanda Mullett of Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 27, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Johnson and Pastor Dave Moulton officiating. Interment will follow in Freemanville Community Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Jameson Ward, Andrew Ward, Scott Wynn, Kevin Classen, Roy Classen and James Ward.

The family will receive friends, from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, August 26 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Mary Louise Dennis, 45, of Atmore died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, in Mobile.

She was a sales associate with Walmart, born in Foley on April 17, 1965, to William F. and Mary Christine Holman Bass.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Dennis of Atmore; one son, Mathew Joseph Dennis and fiancé, Melody Ann Plumb of Sanger, Texas; two daughters, Elizabeth

Mae Dennis and fiancé, Michael Tedder and Mary Christine Bass and fiancé, Michael Ross Hill, all of Atmore; two brothers, William Larry Bass of Spanish Fort and Davy Bass of Daphne; six sisters, Peggy Ann Sunday of Walnut Hill, Willie Mae Wallace of Loxley, Linda Carol Leto of Kentucky, Janice Gail Owens of Loxley, Ellen Elizabeth Taylor of Walnut Hill, and Wanda Marie Everette of Atmore; very best friend, Penny German and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and loved ones.

Services will be Wednesday August 25, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Phil A. Bryars Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Family will receive friends  Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Josiah Paul McElhaney

August 20, 2010

Josiah Paul McElhaney was the infant son of Joshua and Melissa (Wiggins) McElhaney and the little brother of James and Maevree. Josiah’s little earthly body was very sick, but now he has a perfect, whole, Heavenly body and for that we are so thankful. No suffering, just total peace in Jesus. We praise God for the comfort, strength, and peace that only he can give. God is so good to let us have this time with Josiah, for he has so impacted our lives now and forever.

Josiah’s short life has left so many people missing him and longing for that day we can once again hold him. His grandparents are James and Judi McElhaney, and Gary and Judy Wiggins, great-grandparents are Mable McElhaney and LeeRoy and Lois Wiggins as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins family and friends.

Born on Monday August 16, 2010, at 3:27 a.m. he was loved by his family then at 5:15 a.m. he was welcomed into Jesus’ arms. Waiting to meet him were his great-grandparents Cecil McElhaney, Mildred Howell, Lamar and Mary Rawson, and Bob Howell.

We thank God for our family, church family, and many friends for supporting us through prayers and labors of love during this journey. We also would like to thank the Baptist hospital staff and Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home for the services and compassion each provided.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Susan June Powell

August 20, 2010

Susan June Powell, 61, of Flomaton, died Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at her residence after a brief illness. She was a native of Ipswich, England, and a long-time resident of Escambia County. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Kenny Powell II of Flomaton and Kevin Powell of Century; one daughter, Donna Carman of Houston, Texas; one brother, Richard Fenn of England; and four grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held for Mrs. Powell at a later date with Williams Memorial Chapel funeral home in charge of arrangements.
