LCpl Joshua Cody Wright, USMC, age 19, of Molino, Florida passed away February 7, 2011 at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Josh was born February 12, 1991, to Gordon and Melisa Wright. He was a high school graduate and an active duty United States Marine based at Camp Lejeune,
North Carolina Romeo Battery 5th Battalion, 10th Marines.

Survivors include his parents; Gordon A. and Melisa Wright of Molino, Florida, two sisters; Carrie and Mariah L. Wright, step-brother; Anthony James Watson and his grandparents; Chuck and Sue Watson of Panama City, Florida along with numerous aunts, uncles and extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:45 am on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North-Cantonment with Navy Chaplin David Gibson officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors.

Serving as pallbearers will be the United States Marine Corps.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:30 am until service time at 11:45 am.

Martin Stephen Merchant

Mr. Martin Stephen Merchant, 66, passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, in Christian Home.

Mr. Merchant was a native of Sacramento, CA, and a resident of Christian Home for the past 44 years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He loved to fish and hunt and loved to coach little league. Preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and a son, Tony Merchant.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Alice Merchant of Christian Home; four sons, Ronnie and Rosemary Merchant of Bratt, Eric and Dee Merchant of Davisville, Timothy and Amanda Merchant of Pace, and Nathan Victor of Christian Home; two daughters, Renee and Shane Thrower of Huxford, and Tiffany and Michael Segers of Canoe; 16 grandchildren; three brothers, Jack and Faye Merchant of Bluff Springs, Larry and Michelle Merchant of Bluff Springs, and John Barron and Gloria Merchant of Modesto, CA; and two sisters, Jo Ann Merchant of Bay Minette and Linda Merchant of Auburn.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 18, 2011, at noon at the Christian Home Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Floyd officiating. Burial will follow at Christian Home Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 17, 2011, between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Larry Merchant, Billy Joe Merchant, Kevin Merchant, Richard Merchant, Michael Segers and J.C. Victor. Honorary pallbearers will be Shane Thrower and James Williams.

The family of Martin Stephen Merchant is asking for monetary donations instead of flowers to help pay for his funeral, for he had no life insurance. The donations can be made directly to East Side Chapel in Atmore Al. We are Thanking Everyone in advance for your help.

Henry Floyd Coleman

Rev. Henry Floyd Coleman, 85 of Bratt, died Tuesday, February 15, 2011, in Jay. He was a Freewill Baptist Church Minister for 60 years, pastoring several churches in the area.

He was born in Bratt to the late Richard Thomas and Carrie Long Coleman on June 07, 1925, and was also a member of the Shiloh Freewill Baptist Church in Bratt. He and his wife were the owners and operators of the Singer Sewing Center in Atmore.

Coleman was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Salter and a brother, Huey F. Coleman.

Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Essie Wiggins Coleman of Bratt; two daughters, Linda Coleman Lee and husband, Billy of Lake City, FL. Karen Coleman Leonardi and husband Ben of Ft.Walton; one brother, James Richard Coleman of Belton, TX; three sisters, Francis Jordan and Betty Price both of Pensacola, Faye Pfeiffer of Gainesville, FL; five grandchildren, Dr. Jeffrey Lee, Chief Petty Officer Christopher Tyson, Dr. Jason Lee, Leda Broxson and Aaron Moring; 10 great-grandchildren, four sisters-in-waw, Glyndal Robbins, Jessie Wiggins, Thelma Holley, and Bobbie Coleman; and special friends, Marlin and Bertha Metzler.

Services will be Thursday February 17, 2011, at 2 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel in Atmore with Bro. Kevin Stott and Bro. Ted Bridges officiating. Interment will follow in Godwin Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Marlin Metzler, Darrell Holly, Gregory Robbins, Brian Robbins, Clyde Pfeiffer and Billy Coleman.

Family will receive friends Thursday February 17, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel.

Charlie Lane Sr.

Mr. Charlie Lane Sr., 70, passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2011, in Atmore.

Mr. Lane was a native of Huxford, a lifelong resident of Atmore and attended the Enon Baptist Church in Enon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Lane; a son, Randy Lane; his parents, Clifford and Bessie Mae Lane and five brothers.

Survivors include his son, Charles Edward and Ronna Lane Jr. of Mobile; two brothers, Jack Lane of Milton, Fla. and Wayne Lane of Goodway; three sisters, Joyce Davis of Fayetteville, NC, Delois Summerlin of Atmore and Shirley Conway of Pensacola; 15 nieces; 13 nephews and a host of great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. John Stacey and the Rev. Michael Wilson officiating.

Burial followed at Enon Cemetery in Enon.

Visitation was held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Monday, February 14, 2011, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Allen Etheridge, Bryant Lane, Kenny Conway, Timmy Conway, Chris Lane and Jimmy Lane.

Edwin “PeaVine” Peavy

Mr. Edwin “PeaVine” Peavy, 66, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at a Pensacola hospital.

Mr. Peavy was a native of Monroeville, AL, a resident of Century for most of his life, and attended the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his good friend, Betty Henderson of Flomaton; two sons, Billy and Nina Peavy of Pensacola, and Bryan and Annie Peavy of Waverly, MN; 2 grandchildren, Cole Peavy and Kylie Peavy; and a sister, Wanda and Russell Peacock of Century.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 14, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home in Atmore with the Rev. Mike Harper officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Nicholas Rogers, Mark Biles, Bill Touchstone, Tommy Ward, Bobby Chancery and Harvey Kelley.

Visitation will be held Sunday, February 13, 2011, between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

William Frank “Bud” Brantley, Jr.

William Frank “Bud” Brantley, Jr., age 81, of Atmore died Thursday, February 10, 2011, in Fairhope. He was owner of Brantley’s Tires in Monroeville, Ala. He was born in Monroe County to the late William Frank and Myra Wiggins Brantley, Sr. He was a US Army Veteran, treasurer at Presley Street Baptist Church and was on the board of directors of Alabama Tire Dealers and Retread Association.

Mr. Brantley is survived by his is wife, Bessie Crawford Brantley and one son, William Frank Brantley, III and wife Kelly all of Atmore; one daughter, Jana Brower and husband Tim of Loxley; two grandchildren, Lauren Lyles and Kristen Lyles; four brothers, Charles Brantley and wife, JoEllen of Gulf Shores, Robert E. Brantley and wife, Gwen, Harlan Brantley and wife, Geneva, Joe W. Brantley and wife, Mary Emma all of Atmore; two sisters, Christine Culbreth and husband Ralph of Evergreen, Ala. and Eloise Leggiero of Prescott, Ariz. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday February 12, 2011, at 3 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel in Atmore with Bro. Mike Grindle, officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Mike Brantley, Cereal Daniel, Ben Brantley, John Brantley, Thomas Brantley and Dennis Culbreth. Honorary pallbearers will be, J.C. Moye, Raymond Jerkins, Cecil Daniels and James Burkett.

Homer Lee Hanks

Mr. Homer Lee Hanks, 74, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2011, at a local hospital.

Mr. Hanks was a native of Bratt, a lifelong resident of Century, and attended the Baptist church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Oliver and Effie Mobley Hanks, a brother, Oliver Marshall Hanks, and two ssters, Olease McKendrea and Adell Hodson.

He is survived by his wife, Saundra Lynn Milstead-Hanks of Century; two daughters, Michelle Kerns of Pensacola, and Dianna Wiggins of Atmore; six grandchildren, Nychole Pearson, Jesse Kerns, David Kerns, Bethany DiPaulo, Brandon Blackburn, and Iva Wiggins; two great-grandchildren, Skylar Kerns, and James Kerns; and three sisters, Melvine Lang of Pensacola, Ruth Morgan of Cantonment, and Claudia Kumnart of CA.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. John Mathis officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Barren Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2011, from 6-9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home in Atmore.

Judy Cartwright Macks

Judy Cartwright Macks, 62 of Century, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 6, 2011.  Mrs. Macks was a member of New Covenant Holiness Church at Bluff Springs.

Judy was preceded in death by her father, Milton W. Cartwright and brother, Robert LaVaughn Cartwright.

She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Reverend Joe E. Macks; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Randall Musgrove; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie and Deanna Macks and Daniel and Susie Macks; daughter-in-law, Wendy Macks; eleven grandchildren, her mother, Cora Lee Cartwright; special children, Dustin Smith and Tiffany Wiggins; four sisters, Wyvonne Pantermuehl, Eloise Rushing, Mavis Johnson and Helen Morris; three brothers, Eugene Cartwright, Jerry Cartwright and Rufus Cartwright; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends; and a special friend, Elaine.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church with Reverend Ray Hudson officiating.  Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Faith Chapel Funeral Home, 100 Beverly Parkway, is in charge of arrangements.

Leon “Jimbo” Tolin

Leon “Jimbo” Tolin, 72, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2011, at a Mobile hospital. He was a native and resident of McCullough, Ala. He was an avid gardener, football and baseball fan, constable of McCullough, and retired owner/operator of the McCullough Grocery Store and the American Service Station at I-65. He attended the Baptist church.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Tolin.

Mr. Tolin is survived by his wife of 44 years, Betty Tolin of McCullough; two sons, Tony Scott of Flomaton and James Scott of McCullough; two daughters, Sonja Tolin and Shannon Norton of Lubbock, Texas and Diane Chapman of Atmore; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 5, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Otis Thames officiating. Burial will follow in McCullough Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, February 4, 2011, between 6 and 9 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Tony Scott, James Scott, II, Jimmy Dale Boyington, Danny Boyington, Lou Thrower, and Shannon Norton.

Alfred Bruce Hall, Sr.

Alfred Bruce Hall, Sr., 52, of Oak Grove, passed away Friday, January 28, 2011. He was born in Oak Grove to Mildred Marie Hadley and Earnest Jerry Hall. He loved the outdoors, and spent most of his life as a wildlife hunting guide with a successful business (Boar Busters) in Villa Platte, LA. He wrote articles for wildlife magazines, and appeared on wildlife TV shows in Louisiana.

Mr. Hall is survived by his wife, Brenda Hall of Oak Grove; his father, Earnest Jerry (Judy) Hall of Oak Grove; his mother, Mildred Marie Hadley Hall of Atmore, Ala.; his children, Jennifer Hall Guidry of Oxford, Mass., Katie Hall (Brian) Toy of Va., Alfred Bruce Hall, II of Byrneville, Windy Hall (Jared) Hudson of Gautier, Miss., Brandon Hall of Pensacola, and Megan Hall McMillin of Pensacola; his step-children, Scott (Jana) Bartley of Oak Grove, Johnathon Frost of Mobile, Chris Frost and April Garvin, both of Atmore; 13 grandchildren, and a brother, Marion Mark (Debra) Hall of Ocwocknee, Ga.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 31, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Welch officiating.

Pallbearers were Aaron Hall, Brian Rolin, John Hansen, Scott Bartley, Kenny Rolin, Jimmy Hadley, Bobby Hadley, Joey Brown, Alex Hansen, Thomas Qualls and Randy Thames.
