Christina Marie “Nellie” Sneary

Miss Christina Marie “Nellie” Sneary age 14 of Molino passed away Wednesday night, August 3, 2011, in a Pensacola hospital.
She was a native of Miami-Dade, FL, and a long time resident of Molino. Miss Sneary was of the Mormon faith and a graduate of Ernest Ward Middle School.
She is survived by her father and mother, Mike and Troyce Sneary of Pensacola; maternal grandparents William and Bessie Brantley of Brooklyn, Alabama; paternal grandparents LaVerna Michael Leach of Virginia Beach, Virginia; paternal grandfather Gary Sneary of Jackson, Mississippi, brother- Sgt. Jason (Linda Braswell) Rendell of Fort Campbell, Kentucky; sisters Brandi Sneary of Milton and Elena Rendell of Pensacola; and a number of cousins and other relatives.
Visitation will be held Monday August 8, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Brewton.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday August 9, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with President Douglas Potter and Bro. Grover Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Dixonville Cemetery in Brewton at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Ricky Dale Wood, 37 of Milton passed away Thursday, August 04, 2011. He loved hunting, fishing and running dogs with his girls. He enjoyed coaching and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Oscar & Bertha Wood and Hillary and Louise Thompson.
Ricky leaves to cherish his memories his father, Richard Wood; mother Linda Wood; two daughters, Mary Leighann Wood and Melissa Anne Wood; two brothers Richie Brian (Jeanie) Wood of Milton, Eric Shane (Kristina) Wood of Flomaton; two nieces, Montana Marie Wood and Leslie Nicole Wood; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2p.m. Sunday August 07, 2011, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel. Burial will follow at Cora Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday August 06, 2011, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel.
Katie Ruth Norris Darby

Mrs. Katie Ruth Norris Darby, 62, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2011, at a Pensacola hospital.
Mrs. Darby was a native and resident of Bratt for most of her life and she was the pianist for the Pine Barren Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Kitty, and her parents, Neva and Clarence Norris.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Ralph Darby of Bratt; her son, James and Shelley Darby of Louisville, KY; her mother and father, Raymond and Ruth Norris of Bratt; and five grandchildren, Amanda Darby, Keri Darby, Cody Darby, Dylan Williams and Austin Williams.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 7, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Harper and the Rev. Kevin Stott officiating.
Burial will follow at Godwin Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 6, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home in Atmore.
Pallbearers will be Jerry McElhaney, Jimmy McElhaney, Josh McElhaney, Robert Stewart, Mickey Peterson and Michael Peterson.
Judy Baker Flowers

Judy Baker Flowers, age 42, died Wednesday, August 3.
She was born September 29 in Brewton to Herb Baker and Laura Baker Kalata, both long-time educators in Santa Rosa County.
After graduation from college Judy married Alton Flowers and began 21 years as an Air Force wife. Judy and Alton moved to Jay with their children after his retirement. At the time of her death, Judy was employed at United Bank in Jay.
Judy is survived by her children, Kayla, 15, and Jackson, 11, and her husband, Alton Flowers. She is also survived by her parents, Herb and Wanda Baker and George and Laura Kalata; her mother-in-law, Dorothy Flowers; her grandparents, Charline and J. D. Warrick; brother Cory (Christy); three sisters: Tamara Lugo (Victor), Stacie Specht (Mike), and Cheri Kircher, also numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews.
Judy’s interests lay with her family and church family. She and her family are active members of Mt. Carmel Methodist Church. She recently directed Bible school for Jay Methodist and Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church.
Services will be conducted by Lewis Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Friday, August 5 from 5-6 p.m. followed by visitation for the public from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 6. All services will be held at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to the Methodist Children’s Home or a charity of your choice. Lewis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Willena Godwin, 100, of Atmore, died Thursday August 04, 2011, at her residence.
She was a retired high school teacher, born in Blue Mountain, MS, on December 11, 1910, to the late Houston and Martha Rushing Godwin. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, taught Sunday school for many years and was an avid gardener.
She is survived by a nephew Sam and Roxanne Godwin of Portland, TN; great-niece Betty Jo and Allen McLellan of Blue Springs, MS; nephew Argus and Janet Godwin of Blue Mountain, MS; great-nephew Richard Earl and Deborah Godwin of New Albany, MS; niece Billie Jane Grimes of Eutaw, AL; nephew Robert Godwin of OK; nephew Jo Godwin of GA; great-nephew Tim Elimon of TX; great-nieces and nephews Greg Godwin of Jackson, MS, Gary Godwin of Chebanse, IL, Bryan Godwin of Pleasant View, TN, Jeff Godwin of Coltontown, TN, Karen Wright of Bourbonnais, IL, Mike Godwin of Old Hickory, TN, Kara Vonk of Chilcothie, IL, and Anthony Boudreau and Joe Boudreau both of Bourbonnais, IL.

Eloise Greer Moore

Eloise Greer Moore, 76 of Atmore, died Thursday August 04, 2011, at her residence. She was a homemaker, born in Escambia County, Alabama, on July 29, 1935, to the late Murray Thomas and Emily Young Greer.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Alan Moore, a brother, Murray Greer, Jr and a sister, Emily Ann Lockard.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. Alan Moore, Jr. (Alison) of Fairhope, Dr. Tommy G. Moore (Lourie) of Atmore, and a daughter, Ann Stephens of Atmore; five grandchildren, Ross Moore, Mandy Prewett, Shelby Hawkins, Sarah Stephens and Murray Stephens; and two great-grandchildren, Ellie Prewett and Greer Prewett.
Memorial services will be Saturday August 06, 2011, at 2:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Reece officiating. Family will receive friends following the services.

Sara Frances (Boutwell) Straughn

Mrs. Sara Frances (Boutwell) Straughn, 92, of Century died Thursday, August 4, 2011, in Pensacola after a brief illness. She was born in Repton, AL, and was a long term resident of Century and very active in the surrounding communities. She is preceded in death by her husband. P.A. Straughn.
A devout Christian, she was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star. She was very active in the United Methodist Women and a dedicated volunteer with the SAIL program. She and her husband, P.A. ‘Bill’ Straughn, operated Straughn’s Hardware and Building Supply in Century for many years.
Mrs. Straughn is survived by her brother, William Kenneth (Rita) Boutwell of Chickasaw; her daughter, Carolyn Straughn (Calvin) Turner of Wewahitchka, FL; her son, William Rex (Rebecca) Straughn of Pace,FL; five grandchildrenm Judy Turner (Chris) West, Joan Turner (Harold) Carnley, Tonya Straughn (Chris) Gulbranson, William Jason Straughn, Sara Ashley Straughn; and one great grandson, Jesse Malon Smith.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2011, at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 2 p.m. until service time at 4 p.m. Officiating ministers will be Rev. Patricia Bruner and Rev. Janet Lee. Interment will be in Flomaton Cemeter.

Leo Wise Atkeison

Leo Wise Atkeison, 95, was born in McCullough, traveled extensively throughout the US and Central America, lived in Atmore since 1980, and died August 01, 2011 at Jay Hospital.
“Miss Leo” as she was affectionately known, was active in the choir of the First United Methodist Church; the United Methodist Woman on the local, state and national levels; and the garden club wherever she happened to live. Energetic, cheerful and loving, Miss Leo was known for her wide, generous smile.
From her roots in the sacred harp music of the Primitive Baptist Church, through performing opera and classical vocal music, to the loving ditties she sang to her children and grandchildren, her beautiful singing voice was her signature. Even in the fog of 13 years with Alzheimer’s Disease, Miss Leo charmed her caregivers at Century Care Center, angels all, with her singing.
Throughout her career as the wife of an itinerant Methodist preacher, Miss Leo ensured that her children knew their Southern roots, and “home” was wherever she was. Simple stories told in response to the nightly pleas of “Mamma, tell us about when you were a little girl!” reinforced the demonstrated concepts of family and clan, love, loyalty, honesty, and hard work.
Miss Leo was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, the Revered GordonAtkeison.
She is survived by her sisters, Mary Emma Elmore, Tallahassee, Eleanor Purser Pt. Charlotte, FL, and Ruth Vickery Atmore; her children, Sarah Atkeison, Atmore, Bill and Kathy Atkeison, Semmes, AL and John Atkeison, Lincoln, NE; her grandchildren, Billie and Stacy Dooms and their two children in Richmond, VA, and Jessica and Clint Woods and their three children in Albuquerque, NM; and innumerable nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday August 05, 2011 6-8 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home on South Main Street in Atmore. A service in celebration of Leo Atkeison’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday August 06, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim eece officiating. Interment in Magnolia Cemetery, Mobile, will be at a later date after cremation.
Although Miss Leo dearly loved flowers, the family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Alzheimer’s Family Services, The Alzheimer’s Foundation, Covenant Hospice, or the Atmore UMC Music fund.

Donald Flota

Donald Flota of Molino passed away August 1, 2011. He was born in Illinois. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He was employed by Monsanto for 33 years. Donald helped organize the Molino Volunteer Fire Department. He also served as a board member and employee of Molino Utilities for 42 years. He was a Mason and also volunteered as a 4-H leader. He loved to camp, fish and travel.
He was preceded in death by his parents Helen and Edward Flota of Illinois.
Donald is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Ward Flota, two sons, Tim Flota (Brenda) and Mike Flota (Tracy), and three grandchildren, Matt, Jeremy and Brittany Flota, all of Molino, and two brothers, Art Flota (Sharon) of Mount Vernon, IL and Gary Flota (Donna) of Ocala, FL.
Active pallbearers will be Jeremy Flota, Matt Flota, Alan Lee, Jimbo Horan, Randy Weaver and Matt Avirett. Honorary pallbearers will be Carlton Abbott, Vernon Brown, Dave Reeves, Donald Ward and Randy Thompson.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, August 4 at 1:00 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North, 1000 Highway 29 North, Cantonment with Bro. Filmore Enfinger officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Baptist Cemetery.

Mrs. Voncile Findley Mize, 94 of Flomaton, passed away August 2, 2011, at Century Care Center after a lengthy illness.
She was a lifetime resident of the Flomaton community and a homemaker. She was a member of Little Escambia Baptist Church and of the Women’s Missionary Church. Mrs. Mize is preceded in death by her husband, Ivey and grandchildren, Steven, Shanda and Terry Lynn Mize.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Neita (Virgil) Armstrong and son, Gary Dewayne (Joan) Mize, both of Flomaton, AL; five grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Wednesday at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 4 at 11 a.m. at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dexter Truesdell and Rev. Doug Hogg officiating. Interment will follow in Mize-Wadkins Cemetery in Flomaton, AL.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Turk, Don Hammonds, Caleb Turk, Zack White, Colton Hammonds and Turner Armstrong.
