Shelby McFarlain, Jr.

July 7, 2011

Shelby McFarlain, Jr. age 50, of Flomaton passed away Sunday, July 3, 2011. Shelby was born May 14, 1961, in Orange, TX. He worked in the paint and body business prior to being disabled. Shelby spent his time watching NASCAR, gardening, fishing and playing with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Survivors include his daughters Amanda, Erica, Jessica and Anna; his 11 grandchildren; his mother, Barbara McFarlain, his father, Shelby McFarlain; his sisters, Veronica McFarlain, Pamela McFarlain, Cheryl Peebles (Jeff) and Theresa Bradshaw (Todd) along with several nieces, nephews, two aunts and one uncle.

Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2011, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North Cantonment.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service time.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made.

Virginia C. Lister

July 7, 2011

Mrs. Virginia C. Lister, 82, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2011, in Atmore.

Mrs. Lister was a native of Morriston, FL, a former resident of St. Petersburg and Mobile, a resident of Atmore since 1983, and attended the Holiness Church.

She is survived by her husband, Ligey “Bud” Lister of Atmore; her stepson, James and Jan Jeter of Bratt; two stepdaughters, Anncele and PeeWee Powell of
Atmore and Twyla Jean and Gary “BoBo” Bryan of Walnut Hill;; seven step-grandchildren, Vicki Marie Jeter, Becky Ganey, Jodi Jeter, Mitzy Jeter, Karla Bryan, Tony Caraway and Bert Bryan; and a step-great-grandchild, Jim Bryan.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 8, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home in Atmore with Brother Willie Blair officiating.

Burial will follow at Little Rock Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 7, 2011, from 6-9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Edward O. Emmons

July 7, 2011

Edward O. Emmons, 75, of Pensacola, died Saturday, July 2, 2011, at his home. He was born on September 6, 1935, in Escambia County, AL to the late Hightower W. and Marquerite Grissett Emmons.

Ed grew up in Brownsville and attended Allie Yniestra, Blount Junior High, Pensacola and Tate high schools. He started his career in the construction industry at 17 with Dyson and Company. After being drafted into the Army in 1958, he returned to Dyson in 1960 until founding Ed Emmons Steel Erectors, Inc. in 1977. During a career that spanned over 50 years, he completed numerous projects throughout the Southeast. Some of his greatest accomplishments include Olive Baptist Church Sanctuary, N.B. Cook School of the Arts, Molino Park Elementary, Navy Federal Credit Union, National Museum of Naval Aviation and the National Flight Academy. His legacy will be continued by David Emmons and Russell Hollingsworth.

Ed was a 80 year member of West Pensacola Masonic Lodge 296 and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a Charter Member of Hadji Shrine, a Charter Member, Lifetime Member and Past Director of the Hadji Directors Staff. He served many years on Hadji’s Building Committee and was instrumental in the construction of Hadji Shrine Center. He was an avid sportsman and also a Lifetime Member of the NRA.

Ed is survived by his wife of 57 years Alyce Silcox Emmons, daughter Elissa Hall (Stephen), son David Emmons, daughter Suzanne Hollingsworth (Russell) and his grandchildren Stephanie and Jacob Hall, Jonathan and Lindsay Emmons and Caitlyn and Hannah Hollingsworth. He is also survived by one brother Larry J. Emmons, Sr. (Elsbeth).

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 8th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home orth, Cantonment. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 9th., at 10:00 a.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North and a graveside Masonic service and burial will follow at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Randy Blake, Jay Cowick, Glen Etheridge, Ray Etheridge, Manfred Laner, and Alan Sparr.

Honorary Pallbearers are Jack Bell, Herman “Bubbles” Bloch, James Bradley, Paul Fox, Johnny Gibbs, Larry Hall, Henry Johnson, Harold Stewart, Harold Swilley, past and present members of Hadji Directors Staff and the members of SMILE.

Ruby Simmons

Ruby Simmons, age 91, of Jay, died on Tuesday, July 5, 2011, in Pensacola.

Ruby was a resident of Jay and member of New Bethel Baptist Church. Ruby was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, James Edward “J.E.” Simmons, daughter Hazel Daughtery, daughter Margaret Ward, and great-granddaughter Randi Fuller.

Ruby is survived by sons Joseph Edward “Ed” (Irene) Daughtery, John (Carol) Daughtery, and Joe Fuller; grandchildren Debora (Dennis) Finegan, Karen (Andy) Layton, John “J.D.” Daughtery, Jr.; great-grandchildren Randall Warrick, Andrew Howell, Kelly Fuller, Tally Warrick, Christina Finegan, Wesley Layton, Carrie Fuller and Ashley Finegan.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2011, from 5-8 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home.

Funeral service for Ruby will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2011, at Jay Funeral Home with Reverend Matthew Dobson officiating.

Brief graveside service immediately following funeral will be held at Cora Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Jimmy Arnette, Alan Burch, Wayne Polk, Jim Preddy, Jamie Sanders and Todd Watson.

Joseph Daniel Kittrell

Joseph Daniel Kittrell, age 71, died Friday, July 1, 2011. Joseph was born in Pensacola on September 21, 1939, to the late John D. and Louise Townley Kittrell.

Joseph was a lifelong resident of the Cantonment area. He resided in the Farm Hill community where he was a member of Farm Hill United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Tate High School Class of 1958 and he quarterbacked for Tate while in high school. Joseph also played baseball for Monsanto for several years.

Joseph enjoyed assisting Tate High football and baseball over the years. He also spent many years coaching football and baseball at Cantonment Ball Park, Larsen Center, and with the Babe Ruth League.

He enjoyed hunting, golfing with his best friends and spending time with his family. His greatest joy was serving God and serving in his church any way he could. Helping others was always a priority in his life. The greatest loves of his life were his four children.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Kittrell and his sisters Hattie Louise and Betty Jean.

Joseph is survived by his four children, Craig (Mary) Kittrell, Randy Kittrell, Cheryl (Joel) Linholm, and Dale (Rhonda) Kittrell; his seven grandchildren, Mandi Irwin, Jenni Kittrell, Erica Kittrell, Linsay Kittrell, Randy Kittrell, Cody Linholm, and Joseph Kittrell; his four great grandchildren, Tyler and Taylor Michanowicz, Kyndal Hurly, and Colby Kittrell; and his sisters, Mary Moye (Rex) Dease and Carolyn (Ronnie) Stewart.

Funeral services for Joseph will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Farm Hill United Methodist Church with Reverend John Kuritz and Reverend Fred Funches officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be one hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Farm Hill United Methodist Church New Building Fund.

James Eugene Entrekin

James Eugene Entrekin, 87 of Mobile died Saturday July 2, 2011, in Mobile. He was a operator with a lumber mill. He was born in Canoe on April 10, 1924, to the late Dee and Flora Lee Entrekin.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Entrekin.

He is survived by a son, Jerry Entrekin of Daphne; one brother, Charles Entrekin of Bay Minette; five grandchildren, Kerri Smelley and husband Jessie of Mobile, Jerry O. Entrekin, Jamie Entrekin, Nichcole Lim and husband Jonathan of Daphne, and Natasha Millwood and husband Trey of Spanish Fort; nine great-grandchildren, Nicole Spencer, Lexington Smelley, J.P. Miller, Jade Lim, Reagan Lim, Riley Millwood, Jareod Millwood, Cole Millwood and Mason Lim; and one great-great-granddaughter, Reagan Smelley.

Services will be held Wednesday July 6, 2011, at noon at Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Doug Hogg officiating. Interment will follow in Sardis Baptist Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Payton Williams, Joe Lister, Terry Millwood, J.P. Miller, Lexington Smelley and Jerry O. Entrekin.

Family will receive friends, Wednesday July 6, 2011, at Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until service time.

Mary Jane Salter

Mary Jane Salter passed away peacefully to be with her Heavenly Father on June 30, 2011, at Jay Hospital. She was a loving, compassionate and dedicated mother to her daughters and a wonderful loving Nanny to her grandchildren. They all loved her dearly. She loved her son in laws so much also.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Salter; parents, Robert and Mary Laid and brother, Ronnie Lail.

She is survived by her daughters, Sherre (Zane) Burkhead, Tammy (Matt) Murphy, and Daina (Daniel) Madden all of Jay, Florida; 7 grandchildren, Daniel, Jake and Emma Madden, Launa and Dutch Burkhead, and Beverly and Bethany Murphy; 2 stepchildren, Darryl Salter, and Donna Tate; sisters, Shirley (Jimmie) Barlow, Bernice “Kat” (Earnie) Gay and Joyce (Sanders) Courtney; brothers, Robert Lail, Donald (Vicky) Lail, Richard (Mary) Lail, and Kenny (Maggie) Lail; three special sister-in-laws, whom she loved dearly, Jeanette Lowery, Grace Carnley, and Peggy Lail and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Jay Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Carnley officiating services. Burial will follow at Pine Level Cemetery.

Active pallbearers are Wayne Hawthorne, Derek Enfinger, LaManuel Courtney, Lee Deese, David Deese and Josh Daughett.

Maunette Hayes Luker

July 2, 2011

Maunette Hayes Luker went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 28, 2011. She was born on March 17, 1931, in Chumuckla to the late Sidney Martin Hayes and Ruth William Hayes. Although she was born during the Great Depression, she had a very happy and adventurous childhood. She was a true Florida cowgirl going on cattle roundups with her father riding her Mustang horse. Being outside was a blessing to her.

On March 17, 1948, she married Clarence Leonard Luker. She had known him all her life. Leonard was first cousin to Maunette’s best friend, Opal McCall. The couple had been married almost 50 years before Leonard passed away. She was a life time homemaker, avid reader, enjoyed writing poetry and loved working in her yard. Her wonderful storytelling will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Luker was so proud of her heritage. Her ancestors were in Florida before it was a state. She was a member of the Santa Rosa County Creek Indian Tribe, and organizing member of Three Rivers Chapter Daughters American Revolution and an organizing member of Simpson Mounted Rangers United Daughters of Confederacy. She was a member of New Bethel Church. She had known the Lord most of her life having found salvation in Jesus Christ at age 13.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Leonard Luker; infant daughter, Chryll Lynn Luker and sister, Ruth Wynell Hayes Salter.

She is survived by daughters, Gail (Bill) Allred, Debbie Luker, Toni Luker, and Lynn (John) Atkins; her grandchildren, Brandi (Darren) Williamson, Tiffany (Joshua) Odom, David (Lauren) Pennell, Brandon (Jennifer) Spain, Adam Pennell, Brittany Spain, J.D. Atkins, and Sydney Atkins; great-grandchildren, Tristan Pennell, Lilah Odom, Isabelle Pennell, and with four more arriving later in the year; sisters, Betty McMillan and Ollie Jo (Charles) Williams and many nieces, nephews, and cousins that she loved dearly.

Active pallbearers are grandsons, grandsons-in-law, and son-in-laws.

Honorary pallbearers are Rufus Hayes, Ken Ashworth, Dr. Jack Fabian, Tommy Allred, Steve Herrington, Martin Salter, Jackie Salter, Gary Williams, Stan McMillan, Greg McMillan, Bradley Pennell, Jared Salter, Joel Salter, Wesley Salter, Charles Carnley, Bobby Carnley, Gary Daugett, Jason Pocase and Joseph Randolph.

Services will be held at Jay Funeral Home in Jay. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 30, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 1, 2011, at noon. with Mrs. Luker’s nephew, Dr. Michael Williams, officiating services. Burial will follow at Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. John Salvaggio and Dr. Paul Tamburro for their kindness in caring for our mother.

Marvin Dean Schneider

Marvin Dean Schneider, 80, of Fountain Run, Kentucky, died Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at his residence.

The McPherson County, Kansas, native was born May 9, 1931,  as one of six children to the late Henry and Marie Ratzloff Schneider. He was a farmer, businessman and enjoyed woodworking,  He was a  member of the Fountain Run Mennonite Church.

He is preceded in death by a son, William Dean “Bill” Schneider; two brothers, Earl Schneider and Ervin Schneider.

He is survived by his wife, Aldene Hiebert Schneider of Fountain Run; two daughters, Rita Eicher and husband, Greg of Fountain Run, KY; Janet Dirks and husband Randy of Surprise, AZ; a daughter-in-law, Denise Faircloth and husband, Wayne of Albertville, AL; three sisters, Velma Wenger and husband Ervy of Walnut Hill, Evelyn Rutchman of Moundridge, KS, Carolyn Reiger and husband Reinhard of Hesston, KS; a sister-in-law, Brenda Schneider of Walnut Hill; 11grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services were Thursday June 30, 2011, from the Fountain Run Mennonite Church with Rev. Gary Mininger officiating. Services will also be held Saturday July 02, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. from the Walnut Hill Mennonite Church with Rev. Wilbert Peters, Rev. Verle Peters and Rev. Galen Harms officiating. Interment will follow in Walnut Hill Memorial Gardens.

Family received friends at Fountain Run Mennonite Church on Thursday June 30, 2011, and again on Friday July 01, 2011 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m.

Ruth Entrekin

Mrs. Ruth Entrekin, 77, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, in Molino.

Mrs. Entrekin was a native of Finchburg, AL and a resident of Byrneville for the past 55 years. She was a retired employee of Monsanto after 33 years, a devoted wife, loving mother, and precious grandmother and attended the Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church. Rejoice for a woman of God who has finally made it home; she was an inspiration to all and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Entrekin.

She is survived by two daughters, Deborah and Andrew Yuhasz of Molino; and Susan and Dale Steadham of Byrneville; four grandchildren, Corissa and Chad Diamond of Jay, Kimberly Steadham and Gregory Steadham, both of Byrneville, and Amy Yuhasz of Pensacola; three great-grandchildren, Colby Diamond, Cade Diamond and Lani Steadham; and two sisters, Sue McKenzie of Tuscaloosa and Vivian Wilson of Loxley.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 2, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home in Atmorewith the Rev. Shelton Kindig and the Rev. Ronald Broadhead officiating.

Burial will follow at Serenity Garden Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 1, 2011, from 6-9 p.m.. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
