Edna Earl Allen Bell

Mrs. Edna Earl Allen Bell, 79, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2011 in Flomaton.

Mrs. Bell was a native of Milligan, FL, a resident of Flomaton for the past 59 years and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved homemaking, was an avid fisherman and attended the Pleasant Home Holiness Church.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Cecilia Fuqua, her parents, Henry and Louise Allen and two brothers, Lamont Allen and Jimmy Allen.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, William Kilby Bell of Flomaton; two sons, James Randolph and Kristy Bell of Pollard, and Brian Keith and Sandy Bell of Jay; two daughters, Cynthia “Cindy” Bell and Robert Martin of Range, AL, and Polly Ann Fuqua of Kirksville, MO;  six grandchildren, Jennifer Merchant, Josh Martin, John Fuqua, Jeremy Martin, Matthew Bell and Risa Bolivar; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers, John Allen of Bonifay, Bobby Allen of Bonifay, Billy and Phyllis Allen of Palaska, TN, and Larry Allen of Pensacola; and four sisters, Hazel Gibbs of Pensacola, Barbara Raughton of Pensacola, Linda and Jimmy Baker of Pensacola, and Sherry and Tony Kutch of NC.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 9, 2011, at 2 p.m.. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home in Atmore with the Rev. G.W. Birdsong officiating.

Burial will follow at Rock Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 8, 2011, from 6-9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Velma Grace Wenger

September 6, 2011

Velma Grace Wenger, 81 of Walnut Hill, died Sunday September 4, 2011, in Century.

She was a homemaker, born in McPherson County, KS, on March 10, 1930, to the late Henry and Marie Ratzloff Schneider. She was a member of the Walnut Hill Mennonite Church.

She is survived by her husband, Ervy Wenger of Walnut Hill; one son, Dale Wenger and wife Carol of Nashville, TN; one daughter, Rachel Holderman and husband, Kim of Walnut Hill; two sisters, Evelyn Rutschman, Moundridge, KS and Carolyn Regier of Hesston, KS; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. from the Walnut Hill Mennonite Church. Interment will follow in the Walnut Hill Memorial Gardens.

Family will receive friends, Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore is in charge of all arrangements.

Maggie I. Blevins

September 6, 2011

Maggie I. Blevins, age 91, of Cantonment, left for her heavenly home September 4, 2011. There she met her husband Everett; son-in-law, Malcolm; granddaughter DaLana.

She was a member of Windy Hill Baptist Church. Maggie is survived by her daughter, Lois “Pat” Pevahouse; grandson, Michael Pevahouse; granddaughter, Daphne (Robbie) Madden.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at Eastern Gate Funeral Home. Services will be on Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home Chapel with Pastor Ricky Skaggs officiating. Burial will be at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.

The family would also like to thank everyone at Specialty Care of Pensacola. Arrangements under the direction of Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home, Pensacola.

Abbie Nowling Watson

September 5, 2011

Abbie Nowling Watson, 90, peacefully passed on to be with her Lord Jesus Christ in the early morning hours of September 3, 2011. She was a lifelong resident of Jay and a member of Cora Baptist Church.

Abbie was born to the late King David Nowling and Melissa Magaha Nowling. Being the only girl and the baby of the family, she was the “apple of her daddy’s eye”and grew up with four older brothers, Roy, Arlie, Arthur “Shorty”, and Ross Nowling.

On November 16, 1940, Abbie married the love of her life, Bill Watson. Abbie and Bill were married for 68 years and shared the joy of two sons, William Danny Watson (deceased) and Kenneth H. Watson.
Abbie could be described as kind, generous, loving and devoted. She was a wonderful homemaker who had many interests including cooking, crafting, fishing, and traveling. She was an active member of her church and fed countless children over the years as a kitchen volunteer at Vacation Bible School. She had a fun-loving spirit and was an active part in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed and forever remembered by her surviving son, Kenneth H. Watson (Jean), and beloved granddaughters Kim Watson Chambless (Chris), Andriea Watson, and Jamie Watson Mattina (Rodney). Her special little treasures were her great-grandchildren Brandon Chambless, Bailey Calhoun, Kenzee Calhoun, and Sophia Grace Mattina. She is also survived by countless friends and relatives who blessed her life and touched her heart.
Services will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at Cora Baptist Church in Jay, officiated by Jay Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requested a donation to be made in Abbie’s honor to the Cora Baptist Church Cemetery Maintenance Fund. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Covenant Hospice and Dr. Maged Nashed.

Mary Louise Jackson Fulcher

Mrs. Mary Louise Jackson Fulcher age 84 of Century, passed away Monday morning August 29, 2011, at her son’s residence in Flomaton after a brief illness. She was a native of Henderson, TX, and a longtime resident of East Brewton before moving to Century . Mrs. Fulcher was a member of the East Brewton Assembly of God Church and a homemaker.

She is survived by four sons, Dr. Charles (Ramona) Satterwhite of Opp, AL, Bobbie (Carol) Satterwhite of Flomaton, Woody (Annette) Satterwhite of Century, Gary Satterwhite of Houston; two daughters, Linda (David) Kelly of Brewton, Jackie (Eddie) McHenry of Century; three step children-, Larry (Shirley) Fulcher, Mary Ann (James) Pritt, Regina Fulcher; 18 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; three brothers; and two sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sisters, one grandson and one great grandson.

Visitation will be held Friday night September 2, 2011, from 6 until 8 at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Brewton.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday morning September 3, 2011, at 11:00 Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Lowell Thomas and Dr. Charles Satterwhite officiating.

Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. at Union Hill Cemetery, Fairfield Drive Pensacola, with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home officiating.

Mary Jo Petty Chirico

Ms. Mary Jo Petty Chirico, 73, passed away on Monday, August 29, 2011 in Pensacola.

Ms. Chirico was a native and former resident of Pensacola, a former resident of New Jersey and a resident of McDavid since 1990. She was a majorette at, and 1956 graduate of, Pensacola High School. She was a member of the Daughters of the Revolution, the Creek Indian Council of Florida, a chairperson of the Native American Council and a member of the Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Joseph G. and Carol Chirico of Boston, MA; her Daughter, Mary O. Chirico of NY; three grandchildren, Matthew Chirico, Michael Chirico and Jennifer Chirico; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in the Petty, McCall and Brewton families.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 2, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Pat McCall and the Rev. Nathaniel Brown officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Atmore with Petty Funeral Homes directing.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 1, 2011, from 6-9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Norma Gruber

Norma Gruber of Barrineau Park passed away peacefully Friday, August 26, 2011.

She was from Ellenton Ga., but had lived many years in Barrineau Park. Norma ran a ceramic shop from her home for many years that she eventually converted to mostly making dolls. She took great joy in making people happy with her creations. She was a long time member of Highland Baptist Church in Molino.

She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 59 years, John Gruber. She leaves many precious memories behind for family, friends and former customers.

She is survived by one daughter, Geraldine Jordan and husband Calvin; two granddaughters, Sharon Payne and Tammy Crutchfield; one grandson, Phillip Jordan; five great grandsons; two great granddaughters; and one great-great grandson. She is also survived by two sisters, Madie Hopson and Myrtice Bunn; two brothers, Ray Castleberry and Howard Castleberry; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, at Highland Baptist Church in Molino, with services at noon. Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

Francis McCarthy

Francis McCarthy, age 86, of Cantonment, passed away on August 26, 2011. Frank was a man of character and integrity who loved his family and his country and was loved by all. He was born in London, England, in 1924, where he served in the British Special Air Service. In 1955 he moved to Pensacola, FL. and was proudly naturalized as an American citizen. He retired from Monsanto Corporation after more than 30 years of service. He loved to spend time at the beach with his sons.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years Joanne McCarthy; loving sons Blane McCarthy (Melissa), and Dale McCarthy (Suzanne); stepchildren Wes Sharp, Linda Hurst, and Stephanie Joiner; amd grandchildren Andrew and Christopher McCarthy. Marianna Graham (Bobby), Jessica and Robbie

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens in Pensacola. Donations to the American Cancer Society are encouraged in lieu of flowers.

Houston G. Conway

August 28, 2011

Houston G. Conway, of Pensacola, the retired owner of Conway-Spence Insurance, passed away August 25, 2011, at his residence while surrounded by family and friends.

He was born June 21, 1922, in Huxford to Wilson E. and Maudie Mack Doriety Conway and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eva Roach Conway; one daughter, Portia (Jim) Kimbrel; one grandson, Jameson Kimbrel, all of Pensacola; one sister, Trudie Harris of San Antonio, TX; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, August 29, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel in Atmore with services at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Jim Willis officiating. Internment will follow at Godwin Cemetery in Bratt.

The family wishes to thank Tina, Jeanette, Keri and Mike of Regency Hospice, in addition to all the nurses and aides, and special family friend, Brenda Fowler, for all their love and support.

Ellen Voncille Brooks, 66 of Perdido, Al died Friday August 26, 2011, at her residence.

She was a homemaker, born in Monroe County, AL, to the late Varney C. and Ida Mae Smith Black.

She is survived by husband, Jimmie Brooks of Perdido; three daughters, Tammy L. Varnett and husband, Junior of Loxley, Shelia Janes and husband, Randy and Tracy Nichols all of Perdido; five grandchildren, John, Ashley, Brianna, Haven and Macy.

Services will be Monday August 29, 2011,, at 2 p.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Elder V.M. Varnett officiating. Interment will follow in Brooks Cemetery in Baldwin County.

Family will receive friends, Sunday evening August 28, 2011, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m.
