Grady Leon Holt

Mr. Grady Leon Holt age 87 of Flomaton, AL passed away on September 19, 2011, at a local hospital.

Mr. Holt was a lifetime member of the Flomaton community where he attended Flomaton First Baptist Church and worked as a contractor building homes. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served as Flomaton’s mayor for two terms and as councilman for three years.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Ellis Holt; son, Jerry L.(Peggy) Holt of Grove Hill; daughter, Evelyn (Hugh) Anderson of Navarre; brothers, Waymon Holt of Flomaton and Krafton P. Holt of Pensacola; sister, Doris Carden of Flomaton; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, September 20, 2011, from 6 until 8 p.m at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 21, at 11 a.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home with Dr. Jerry Keese and Rev. Dustin Stockstill officiating. Interment will follow in Flomaton Cemetery.

Rev. John D. Renfroe

The Rev. John D. Renfroe, 83, passed away on Monday, September 19, 2011, in Pensacola.

Mr. Renfroe was a native of Century and a resident of Atmore  since 1990. He was a licensed funeral director since 1981. He formerly worked for Foley Funeral Home, Atmore Memorial Chapel, and Jay Funeral Home, and presently for Petty Funeral Homes, LLC. He was a retired Methodist minister for Alabama and West Florida Conference for 31 years, and was a member of the Atmore First United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Warnie and Maggie Renfroe, a grandson, Rodney Renfroe, four brothers and one sister.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lavada Renfroe of Atmore; three sons, the Rev. Larry W. and Connie Renfroe of Atmore, Ronnie and Linda Renfroe of Leroy, and John Renfroe of Columbus, MS; a brother, LaGrant and Eloise Renfroe of Live Oak; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at 10 a.m.  at the First United Methodist Church of Atmore with the Rev. Jim Reese and the Rev. Larry Renfroe officiating. Burial will follow at Byrneville Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 20, 2011, from 6-8 p.m. the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home in Atmore.

Pallbearers will be Dalton Renfroe, Kenneth Renfroe, Richard Renfroe, Robert Renfroe, Ray Smith, Jake Jernigan, John Glass, Jr. and Hubert Levins.

Honorary pallbearers will be retired ministers and their wives and his Sunday School Chapman Class.

Emory D Brown

September 18, 2011

Emory D Brown, age 86 of Cantonment, passed away on September 16, 2011.

Mr. Brown retired from Armstrong World after 41 years of service. He was preceded in death by his daughter Charlene Andrews.

Emory is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sadie I. Brown; son, Edward (fiancé Tracey) Brown; son-in-law, Steve (Jana) Andrews; 11 grandchildren, Sherry Beson, Dennis Beson, Cindy Stull, Jacob Stull, Ronnie Andrews, Amber Daniel, Maigan Brown, Chase Bradley, Casey Bradley, Steven Bradley and Dillon Stevens; four great grandchildren, Victory Beson, Tyler Swauger, Hanna Swauger and Trenton Bradley.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for memorials to be made to The Joyce Goldenberg Hospice Inpatient Residence.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, from 5:00 pm till 8:00 pm at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at 11:00 am at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home with burial at Pensacola Memorial Gardens where the Mason’s will be pallbearers.

Marian Frances Vaughan Day, 68 of Seguin, TX, and formerly of Walnut Hill, died Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at her residence.

She was a homemaker, born in Tuskegee, AL, on October 20, 1942, to the late Thomas Morris and Frances Chasteen Merritt Tyson.

She is survived by two sons Byron Vaughan and wife, Trisia of Atmore, John Vaughan and wife, Kelly of Stockdale, TX; one daughter Micaela Fuller and husband, Scott of Bastrop, TX; three brothers Kenneth Tyson of Bay Minette, Jimmy Tyson of Harriett Bluff, GA, “Skeeter” Tyson of Killen, AL; one sister Dottie Davis of Walnut Hill; and six grandchildren, Kalyn, Kevin, Jacob, Hattie, Bethanie and Wendy.

Services will be Saturday September 17, 2011, at 11 a.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Boyd and Rev. Ted Bridges officiating. Interment will follow in the Walnut Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Active

Marion Elizabeth Subotich Hiatt

Marion Elizabeth Subotich Hiatt went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 14, 2011.

She was born in the Bronx, New York, on April 7, 1933, to Elsie Thiede Subotich and Philip James Subotich. She graduated from nursing school in New York in 1954. She moved to Pensacola in 1967 and after 22 years with Escambia County Health Department — 17 of those years at the Molino Clinic — she retired in 1996.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Hiatt Jr. and her parents. She is survived by her children she so deeply loved, Elsie Marie Hiatt and Philip Farrell Hiatt (Misty) and her loving grandchildren, Daniel Hiatt, Cody Nellums, Madison, Morgan, Mackenzie and Jackson Hiatt. She is also survived by her stepdaughter, Teresa Hiatt McQuade (George) and family.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, September 16, 2011, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 15, 2011, from 5-6 p.m.

Janet A. Carlton, 60 of Atmore, died Tuesday September 13, 2011, at her residence.

She was a dental assistant, born in Mobile County on May 26, 1951, to the late Cecil Rhinehart and Adlene Wooten Rhinehart.

She is survived by her husband, Clarence Carlton of Atmore; mother Adelene Rhinehart of Atmore; one son Brandon Carlton and wife, Heather of Birmingham; three grandchildren, Rylee Brooke Carlton, Reese Brynlee Carlton and Rowam Baylee Carlton; two brothers, Ronny Rhinehart and wife, Joyce of Canoe, and Scott Rhinehart.

Services will be Friday September 16, 2011, at 10 a.m.from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel in Atmore with Bro. Gene Pickern officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Family will receive friends, Thursday evening September 15, 2011, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m.

Debra Joyce “Debbie” Ganey

Debra Joyce “Debbie” Ganey, age 55 of Cantonment, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Ganey was a member at Olive Baptist Church.

Debra is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Donald W. Ganey; two daughters, Candice Odom and Sarah Ganey; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Troy D. and Carrie Cook and William “Check” Speed; four grandchildren, Anna, Ray, Chris and Autumn; parents, Betty and Billy Lord; her aunt, Shirley Parks; other family members and many friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South with Dr. Ted Traylor officiating. Interment will follow at Ard’s Field Cemetery, Allentown, FL.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service.

Joseph Hillary Shelby

September 12, 2011

Joseph Hillary Shelby, 81, of Escambia County went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 11, 2011. Joseph was born on June 12, 1930, in Molino and spent most of his life in Escambia County,Florida. He was the oldest son of the late Joe Wheeler Shelby and late Laura Pugh Shelby.

Joseph served in the Army in Germany prior and at the start of the Korean War. He owned his own appliance business, Lewis Appliance, before retiring in 1980. He was a past Mason and Shriner. Joseph was a passionate church worker in the churches he was a member over the years. He served in the capacity of deacon, Sunday School teacher and Bible leader.

He leaves behind a loving wife of 57 years, Wilma Jean Handrop Shelby; and three lovely daughters, Virginia Shelby, of Pensacola; Myra Pinney (Andrew Pinney) of Cantonment and Barbara Keene (Joe Keene) of Pensacola; three brothers James Irvin Shelby of Molino, Theodore “Diego” Shelby of Pensacola, and Jerry Shelby of Pensacola. He also leaves behind two granddaughters, whom he loved very much, Stephanie Belue (Michael Belue) of Gonzales, Louisiana and Miranda Pinney of Pensacola and one great-granddaughter Rapunzel Belue of Gonzales, LA. He also has numerous aunts and uncles and cousins that he is leaving behind.

He will be greatly missed by many friends and family who have been very devoted to him over the years. It is comforting to know we will see him again in heaven soon.

Services will be held at Faith Chapel North-Cantonment at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2011, and burial immediately following at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 14, 2011, from 5-8 p.m.

Floyd A. Reamer

September 12, 2011

Floyd A. Reamer, 75, passed away September 12, 2011, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Starke City, MO on January 14, 1936 to Roy and Sylvia Reamer.

Known too many in the Molino area as “Monk”, Reamer lived in the Molino area most of his life. He was a man of many trades, farming, construction work, intarsia wood working art and pictures.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his sisters Geraldine and Patsy Ann Reamer; and brothers, Robert Earl and Harry.

He is survived by his sisters, Lucile Whitegon, Bertha Regnier, Jean Hull, Beverly Watson, Charlotte Lamb, Donna Etheridge, Arlis Stevenson, Shirley Waterman, Betty Carroll and Patsy Ann Reamer, and his brothers, Roy and Kenneth Reamer.

A memorial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2011, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North-Cantonment.

Memorials may be made in his memory to Highland Baptist Church in Molino or to Covenant Hospice.

Cody Matthew Brown

Mr. Cody Matthew Brown, 19, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2011, in Atmore.

Cody was a native and lifelong resident of Atmore a member of the Phi Theta Kappa, National Honor Society, SGA, and a graduate of Escambia County High School, Class of 2010. He was the shift manager for McDonald’s. He loved sports, especially basketball, and attended the First Assembly of God Church. He was preceded in death by his Grandfather, James Edward Brown.

He is survived by his parents, Mark and Sandra Brown of Atmore; his brother, Josh and Allison Brown of Atmore; grandparents, Archie and Cleo Sellers of Atmore and Eloise Copeland of Atmore; his fiance’, Whitney Johnson of Atmore; a niece, Madison Brown of Atmore; and a number of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins..

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Charles Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery with Petty Funeral Homes directing.

Visitation will be held Monday, September 12, 2011, from 6-9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Boatwright, Haden McGill, Justin Stabler, Cody Johnson, Shay Gipson and Marshall Rolin.
