Myrtle Reynolds

Mrs. Myrtle Reynolds age 83 of Mobile passed away December 8, 2011, at a Mobile health care facility.

Mrs. Reynolds was a native of Flomaton and had been a resident of Mobile for 53 years coming from Atmore. During her working years, she worked for Mobile Infirmary as a admitting clerk, and at Brookley Field. She was of the Protestant faith and is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin L. Reynolds.

She is survived by her son, Melvin (Beth) Reynolds, Jr. of Mobile; daughter, Pat Winkler of Mobile; sister, Imogene ‘Titi’ Russ of Gulf Breeze; brother-in-law, Hubert Turner of Andalusia; sister-in-law, Eunice Reynolds of Mobile; grandson, Kenn A. ‘Beau’ (Danielle) Winkler of Mobile, great grandchild, Dillon Winkler of Mobile; numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

Visitation will be held, Tuesday, December 13, 2011, at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ralph Morgan officiating. Interment will follow in Flomaton Cemetery.

Kenneth Wade Jernigan

Our beloved son, Kenneth Wade Jernigan went home to be with the Lord on December 8, 2011. He was a sophomore at Northview High School. Wade had a heart of gold and a smile that brightened anyone’s day. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and sports. Wade loved his family and friends and was loved by all.

Though Wade just turned 16 in September through his unselfish, giving spirit he chose to be an organ donor, and even though we greatly grieve his passing, through it he gave eight people and their families life and in this way he lives on through them.

Preceding him in death were his uncles, Sammie Vaughn, Bennie Lucas, and his grandfather, Brownie Brown.

Survivors include his mother, Connie Brown of McDavid; his father, Ken and his wife Melissa Jernigan of Century; his three brothers, Terry Lucas, Jr, Randy and Michael Jernigan; his grandparents, Udeen and Sefton Miller of Ponce DeLeon, FL; Billy and Faye Jernigan of Pensacola; Elanore Lucas of Flomaton; his aunts and uncles, Sabrina and Steve Gibbons, Wanda Brown, Sandra and Christian Tollfson, Deborah and David Floyd, Michelle and Mike Williamson, Patrissa and Wayne Thompson, Ashley and Zane Presley, Rick and Connie Brown, Shawn and Andrea Lucas, Stevie and Becky Lucas, Shannon Lucas, Greg and Kim Jernigan, Mark and Karen Jernigan; numerous cousins and his beloved dog Isabella.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 11, 2011, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North-Cantonment with Rev. Jeff Howard and Rev. Doug Hogg officiating. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bodie Tullis, David Bell, Larry Gibson, Trent Freeman, Matt Reynolds and Robert Agerton. Honorary pallbearers will be his Northwest Escambia Baseball teammates.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2011.

Joyce Ann Rand

Joyce Ann Rand was born on October 13, 1943, in Jacksonville. She passed away with loved ones by her side on Saturday, December 3, 2011, in Pensacola after years of battling major health difficulties. Her body just got tired. Many people admired her strength, her love, and her trust in Jesus.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Monroe Rand, of Pensacola; father, Fred C. (F.C. Speedy) Morris; and sister, Sandra Elaine Morris.

She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Anne Mosier of Marianna, FL and Terri Lea Rand of Pensacola; son, Trent Anthony Rand of Pensacola; granddaughter, Shiloh Jade Mosier of Chipley; mother, Raynell Morris of Marianna, FL; sisters, Marsha Lehrer of Warwick, NY and Sheila Arlene Cook of Marianna; brother, Don Wayne (Quida) Morris of Marianna; and ex daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Allen of Bratt.

A visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2011, at Bayview Memorial Park’s Mausoleum, Chapel of Peace, with funeral services starting at noon.

Ella Mae King

Ella Mae King, 94, of Pensacola, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 2, 2011. Mrs. King was born July 29, 1917, at the family farm in Sunshine Hill. She was a teacher, a homemaker, and a faithful Christian. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She taught women’s Sunday School at Brentwood United Methodist Church for over 30 years. Mrs. King enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, and traveling with her husband throughout the United States.

Mrs. King was preceded in death by her parents: Addie and A. J. Taylor. Siblings: Lottie T. Gilley, Brooks Taylor, Malissa T. Dreadin, Jack Taylor, Edna T. Smith, and Ruth T.Golightly; and loving husband of 62 years, Carnley C. King.

Mrs. King is survived by her children: son, Larry King (Betty) of South Haven, MI; son, Wayne King of McKinney, TX; daughter, Cheryl K. Philpot of Lakeland, FL; and son, Alan King (Sandy) of Pensacola. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Angeila K. Harris, Larry Alan King, Matt King, Chris King, Brian Philpot, Bryce Philpot, Brent Philpot, Ryan King, and Patrick King; seven great-grandchildren: Samantha King, Jake King, Tyson Harris, Presley Philpot, Nash Harris, Cooper Philpot, and Sydney Philpot. She is survived by her brother, Bill Taylor of Molino; and 15 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with funeral service following at 11 a.m. Her nephew, Rev. Jack Taylor, is officiating. Pallbearers will be Mrs. King’s grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Crabtree Church Cemetery Association (P. O. Box 363, Cantonment, FL. 32533) or memorial donations to Ferry Pass United Methodist Church.

Vaughn Thomas Simmons

Vaughn Thomas Simmons of Cantonment passed away Monday, December 5, 2011.

Vaughn was born at Clark Air Force Base, Pampanga, Philippines, raised in Gulf Breeze and was a longtime resident of Escambia County. A 1974 graduate of Gulf Breeze High School, he went on to serve in the United States Navy as a nuclear machinist mate and was employed as an irrigation technician with Water Works, Inc.

A man of honesty and integrity, Vaughn greeted everyone with a friendly smile. Well read, Vaughn was always right, would argue until you would agree and prove you wrong should it be necessary.

His mother, Doris Broxson McGowin, and his sister, Stephanie Ellington, preceded Vaughn in death.

Vaughn is survived by his wife, Debbie J. Simmons; son, Tommy (Emily) Simmons of Kenosha, WI; daughter, Lindsey (Kyle) Kloes of Milton; son, Brandon Cowgill of, Cantonment; granddaughter, Dakota Kloes; brother, Mark Simmons of Atlanta; brother, Jerome Simmons of Pace; brother, Jamie (Claudette) Simmons of Cantonment; sister, Jan (Steve) Lockman of Molino; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Celebration of Life services will be held Thursday, December 8 at 11 a.m. at Pensacola Worship Center Church of God, 5715 North W Street, Pensacola, with the Reverend Doug Levins officiating.

Cecilia M. Kent

Mrs. Cecilia M. Kent, age 61, passed away Friday, December 2, 2011 in the Brewton hospital.

Mrs. Kent was born & raised in the Century/Flomaton area and had been a longtime resident of Menlo, GA, before returning to the Brewton area four years ago. Mrs. Kent worked as a kindergarten teacher for a number of years. She was a member of Alpine Community Church in Menlo, GA. Mrs. Kent was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, James A. Foster and a nephew, James A. Foster, Jr.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Mr. Ronnie D. Kent, of Brewton; a sister, Marilyn Foster of Brantley, AL; a brother-in-law, Jerry (Gloria) Kent of Brewton; two sisters-in-law, Jean Wilson of Atmore, and Bonnie Shiver of Satsuma, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Cecilia M. Kent were held on Sunday, December 4, 2011, from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Pledger and Bro. Jeff Edwards officiating. Interment followed in Catawba Springs Cemetery with Craver’s Funeral Home of Brewton directing.

Elsie Margaret Shiver

Elsie Margaret Shiver, 78, went home to her Lord and Savior on November 29, 2011. She was a loving mother, grandmother, nanny and friend. She cherished her family and friends. She will be missed by so many.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Clarence “J.J.” Shiver, her daughter, Karen Paulette ‘Polly” Finger; her great-granddaughter, Karen Richey Broxson; two brothers, George Carter and Ivan Jackson; and parents, George and Pauline Carter.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry (Anita) Macks, and David “Ray” Macks; niece, Candy Jeffers; great niece and nephew, Brian and Wendy Jeffers; five grandchildren, Felicia (Alex) Amerson, Tiffany Snyder, Kim Broxson, Joshua Macks and Natashia Macks; 12 great-grandchildren, Bill Gilly (Ashley), Dylan, David, and Alexis Amerson, Alkota, Austin, and Shyann Snyder, Matthew and Dustin Broxson, Hunter, Destiny, and Madox Macks; one great-great grandson, Tripp Gilly; and longtime friends, Myra Lee Kelly and Mary (Butch) Moye; and a special friend, James Robinson.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Bill Gilly, David and Dylan Amerson, Alkota and Austin Snyder, Joshua Macks, and Matthew and Dustin Broxson.

Funeral Services will be Friday, December 2, at 11 a.m. at Johnson Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore with Brother Ted Bridges and Brother James Boyd officiating. Burial to follow at Walnut Hill Baptist Church.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 1, from 6-8 p.m. at Johnson Quimby Funeral Home.

Richard Nichols

Mr. Richard Nichols, 69, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2011 at a local hospital.

Mr. Nichols was a native of McDavid and a resident of Flomaton for the past 20 years. He was a loving husband, father and stepfather and attended the Holiness church. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Nichols; his mother, Bernell and Melvin Eddins; and a brother, Ronald Nichols.

He is survived by his wife, Jessie Godwin of Flomaton; his son, James Nichols of Pensacola; two daughters, Abby Gail Smith of Rockford, IL, and Mary Wiggins of Peidmont, AL; three stepdaughters, Pamela Noble of Milton, Laura Gibson of Pace, Darlene Rojas of Biloxi, MS; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a brother, Alvis Nichols of Dakota, IL.

Funeral services will be Friday, December 2, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home in Atmore with the Rev. Mike Grindle officiating. .Burial will follow at Byrneville Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 1, 2011, from 6-9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home

Penny Delaine Morris Shivers

Mrs. Penny Delaine Morris Shivers, 41, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2011, at a Pensacola hospital.

Mrs. Shivers was a native of Andalusia, a resident of Flomaton for the past 18 years and attended the Unity Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, Linda Morris.

Survivors include her husband Kenny Shivers of Flomaton; her son, Nikolas Shivers of Flomaton; her father, Robert Morris of Red Level, AL; a sister, Lynn M. and Michael Bush of Red Level; grandmother, Mamie H. Morris of Red Level; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Roy and Geneva Shiver of Flomaton; a number of aunts and uncles; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 1, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the Unity Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Pickern officiating. .

Burial will be Thursday, December 1, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the South Church of God Cemetery in Red Level.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 30, 2011, from 6-9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home in Atmore.

Joseph Glen Maholovich

Joseph Glen Maholovich, 54, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at his home in Atmore Alabama. He was a loving devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be missed by many.

He leaves behind his wife of 36 years Vanessa; his daughter Marcy Maholovich Mims and spouse Joshua Mims; his son Jacob Maholovich and fiance Whitney McGill; four beloved grandchildren, Zachary Maholovich, Ansleigh Maholovich, Ella Mims and Keaton Mims; sisters Mary Ann Allen and Brenda Berry; and brother-in-law Ronnie Berry. He leaves behind a host of friends and family that will miss him deeply. He is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Ruby Maholovich and brother Eugene Norris.

Family will receive friends Monday evening November 28th at Johnson Quimby Furneral Home in Atmore from 6-8 p.m. Services will be Tuesday, November 29th at 11:00 a.m. from Johnson Quimby Chapel with Rev. Don Davis and Brother Keith Lisenby officiating. Interment will follow at Godwin Cemetery in Bratt.
