Henry Greenberry Ray, Jr.

Mr. Henry Greenberry Ray, Jr., 81, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2012. in Bay Minette, AL.
Mr. Ray was a native of Bratt, a former resident of Century, and a resident of Bay Minette for the past 26 years. He was a member of the Century Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, a Hadji Shriner, a retired U.S. Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War, a retired employee of the Exxon Company and attended the Methodist church.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Anne Ray and a sister, Florence Kleinatland.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Opal Ray of Bay Minette; three Stepdaughters, Lorraine Gray, Shirley Melton and Paula Joiner, all of Bay Minette; six step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Lois Burkett of Century; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Cindy Still officiating..
Burial will follow at the Godwin Cemetery with Masonic services.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 18, 2012, from 1 p.m. until funeral time at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home
Pallbearers will be Trent Burkett, Doug Kleinatland, Christopher Haber, Jeff Crenshaw, J.W. Joiner, Matt Curtis and Chris Stewart. Honorary pallbearer will be Dennis Lambeth.
Richard Byrd

Mr. Richard Byrd, 81, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2012, at a local hospital.
Mr. Byrd was a native of McCullough, AL, and a resident of Flomaton for most of his life. He was a veteran of the Korean War and attended the Baptist church.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel Byrd of Flomaton; two stepsons, Leon Johnson of Flomaton and Wayne McBride of Dallas; a stepdaughter, Aimee Premeau of Dallas; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bob Byrd and Jerry Byrd, both of CA, and Eubie Byrd of Perdido, AL; and two sisters, Euline Bryars of Mobile and Jean Branton of San Bernardino, CA.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 19, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Hogg officiating..
Burial will follow at the Flomaton Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 18, 2012, from 6:30 until 9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Dr. Robert Harold Jackson

Dr. Robert Harold Jackson, age 75 of Decatur, AL, passed away suddenly on January 13, 2012, in Brandon, MS.
Dr. Jackson was a native of Century and had been a member of the Decatur community for four years coming from Brandon, MS, where he served as assisting pastor at Central Baptist Church of Decatur and he was president of Romanian American Missions.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Abigail Jones Jackson of Decatur, AL; son, Dr. Robert Ernest (Tonya) Jackson of Decatur, AL; daughter, Jeannece Jackson (Dennis) Luhrs of Frankfort, KY; grandchildren, Jake Hart and Luke Hart, both of Frankfort, KY and Abigail Jackson of Decatur, AL; three step-grandchildren, Adam M. Luhrs of Prospect, KY; Rebecca Luhrs of Lincoln, NE and Aaron M. Luhrs of Frankfort, KY.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 16, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Flomaton First Baptist Church with Dr. Robert E. Jackson, Dr. Kristi Chivu, Rev. Lawrence Baldridge and Dr. Jerry Keese officiating. Visitation will begin at noon and will continue until service time at 3 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Flomaton Cemetery.

Preston E. Chunn, 72 of Atmore, died Friday January 13, 2012, in Pensacola. He was a salesmen for Farm Equipment. He was born on October 13, in Century to the late Mose E. and Leona Jones Chunn.
He is preceded in death by four brothers and two wisters.
He is survived by his wife, Wanza P. Chunn of Atmore; three sons, Keith Browning of Vicksburg, MS, Wesley Chunn, and Jason Chunn and wife Brandy all of Atmore; one sister, Emma Lou Henderson of Eufala, AL; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Browning, Jacelyn, Macie and Danie Chunn.
Services will be Monday January 16, 2012, at 11 a.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Stevens officiating. Interment will be in Lottie New Home Cemetery.
Family will receive friends Sunday January 15, 2012, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m.

Mr. Hughie Jernigan, 85, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at a Santa Rosa County hospital.
Mr. Jernigan was a native of Jay, a former resident of McDavid, and a resident of Century for the past 61 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sadie Ruth McCawley Jernigan; a daughter, Judy Dianne Bondurant; and a grandson, Steven Wayne Mize.
He is survived by his daughter, Joan and Gary Mize of Flomaton: a son-in-law, Don Bondurant of Flomaton; two grandchildren, Cynthia Mize Fiala of Foley, and Jeffery Bondurant of San Diego; and two great-grandchildren, Cole Bondurant and Tristan Bondurant.
Funeral services will be Sunday, January 15, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home in Atmore with the Rev. Rich Gartman officiating..
Burial will follow at the Wadkins-Mize Cemetery.

James Curtis Booth

Mr. James Curtis Booth, 80, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2012, in Leesburg, FL.
Mr. Booth was a native of Stanley Crossroads, a longtime former resident of Plainfield, IL and a resident of Leesburg for the past 16 years. He held many offices of the United Auto Workers, was a member of the union for many years at the Buick-Oldsmobile-Cadillac Plant in Chicago a U.S. Army Veteran of the 11th Airborne Division and attended the St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Leesburg.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Booth in 2002, and a grandson, Stephen Michael Booth.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Bridges Booth of Leesburg, FL; two sons, James Booth and Stephen Booth, both of Leesburg; three daughters, Roseanne Gomer of Naperville, IL, Lisa Smith of Orlando and Dawn Baumgartner of Coral Springs, FL; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Clifton Booth of Olive Branch, MS; a sister, Mattie Ruth Bailey of Canoe, AL.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 14, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the St. Roberts Bellarmine Catholic Church with Father Gordon Milsted officiating..
Burial will follow at the Magnolia Cemetery.

Carolyn Joy Floyd Poley

With her family by her side, Carolyn Joy Floyd Poley passed away on January 8, 2012, after a lengthy battle with liver cancer. Carolyn was born in Corpus Christi, TX, on May 1, 1957, to Clyde and Edith Floyd. Carolyn lived the majority of her child and adult life in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.
Carolyn is survived by her husband of 20 years, Clifton Scott Poley and her five children: daughter, Karri Anne Yonker and fiancé, Chad Adkins; son, Stephen Lee Yonker; daughter, Shelly Marie Yonker Campbell and Justin Cuyler; son, Justin Ryan Poley; and son, Brandon Scott Poley. She also leaves grandchildren, Kristen Nicole Bigner, Kelsey Lee-Anne Bigner, and Levi Ryan Yonker.
Carolyn is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Marilyn Bernard, Jean Hopkins & Ducky, Bobby Holland and Diane, James Holland and Gloria, and Cressie Tucker and Bill.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother, Edith Whiddon Floyd and her father, Clyde Duvall Floyd.
Viewing will be held on Friday, January 13th, from 5-8 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North at 1000 Highway 29, Cantonment. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 14 at 11 a.m. at Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church at 3218 Molino Road.

Our special angel, Sheila Wiley went home to be with her Heavenly Father on the wings of a butterfly on January 12, 2012. Sheila was born July 1, 1954.
Shelia was preceded in death by her parents Arnett Wiley and Inez Wiley Granger and her stepfather Donald Granger.
She is survived by her siblings Rev. Steven (Rev. Reba) Wiley, Sherry (Jim) Hinote, Shirley Pugh, Claude (Glenda) Wiley, Paul (Laura) Wiley, many nieces, nephews and great nieces, great nephews that she dearly loved.
Sheila touched many lives through her devotion at Farm Hill United Methodist Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher, lay witness leader, Children’s Church director, youth leader and choir director. She proudly wore many hats and served God always.
In addition to the love of her church family, she was also a well-respected retired Escambia CountydEducator. She touched the hearts and lives of many children, parents and co-workers. Her classroom motto was “Work Hard and Play Harder”. She loved her students and only wanted the best for each of them. They each had a special place in her heart and her in theirs.
Shelia was truly one of God’s special angels and will be deeply missed by all. Her sense of humor and warm smile will always be remembered. “Go Rest High On That Mountain, Your Work On Earth Is Done.”
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 15, 2012, at Farm Hill United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Brittany Hedwig Etheridge

Brittany Hedwig Etheridge of Atmore, Alabama took her last breath in a peace-filled moment late in the evening of Tuesday, January 10, 2012, a full 22 days before her 22nd birthday.
She was a 2008 graduate of Escambia County High School in Atmore and a student at Faulkner State community college in Bay Minette where she had one class remaining before completion of an associates degree in pursuit of a future career as an accountant.
Brittany always sought and shared beauty and will be remembered as a lover of life who graced hearts with joy and happiness. She fought leukemia with grace and unrelenting determination.
She was preceded in her journey by three grandparents, one cousin and two paternal uncles.
She is survived by her mother, Evelyn Etheridge; her father, Jimmy Etheridge; one brother, James Bernard Etheridge; her paternal grandfather, Alton Etheridge: seven aunts; six uncles; 18 cousins; and many other family and friends.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday January 13, 2012, at 10 a.m. from the St.Roberts Bellarmine Church in Atmore by Father Jan Zagorski, her former pastor, with Father Gordon Milstead, acting as master of ceremonies. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Rosary will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday evening January 12, 2012, from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.

Mrs. Doris Barrington Murph Hall, age 92, of Atmore passed away Monday January 9, 2012, after a brief illness.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Ulbert Barrington and Bessie Barrington; brother, Donald Barrington and daughter Lanell Cook.
Mrs. Hall is survived by her husband Marshall Hall and brother Glen Barrington; two sons, Colvin Murph (Faye) of Bay Minette and Rodney Hall of Atmore; seven daughters, Carolyn Dees of Robertsdale, Nancy Roach (D.C.) of Davisville, Bettye Hodges (Ken) of Pensacola, Shirley Diane Rushing (Johnny) of Pensacola, Sarah Ward (Mike) of Mobile, Rita Whatley (Larry) of Atmore and Becky Holloway (James) of Odessa, TX; 21 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 12, 2012, at 3 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Johnson officiating. Interment followed in McCullough Cemetery.
The family received friends Thursday, January 12, 2012, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home one hour prior to service time.
