Danny Lewis Holt

Danny Lewis Holt, loving husband, father and grandfather passed to his heavenly home January 17, 2012. Danny was born January 19, 1948, in Fort Worth, TX. He was the only child of Hilery Holt and Gladys Lambeth Kirkland who proceeded in him in death.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie of 45 years, his son Dan (Pamela), daughter Nancy (Richard) Brown and his grandchildren: Kristen (Carl) Carter, Katelin Holt, Emma Holt, Garrett Brown and Seth Brown. Survivors also include special cousins Robert (Linda) Holt of Flomation and Gary (Anne) Holt of Pace, Sister-in-law, Carole (Floyd) Griffin of Baker, Brothers-in-law, Billy (Paula) Kimbrough and Jim (Elaine) Kimbrough of Chumuckla, Atwood (Sandra) Kimbrough of Pace and John (Addie) Kimbrough of McDavid as well as numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews.

Danny graduated from Chumuckla School in 1966. He attended Okaloosa-Walton Junior College where he played baseball and ran cross country. A general contractor in Santa Rosa County for 38 years, Danny was also a major participant in land development. He attended Milton First Assembly of God and taught a Wednesday night adult Bible class. While he spent many hours building in the local community, he was most recognized by his kindness, generosity and smile. Danny’s well known testimony of his miraculous healing of cancer in 1985 will survive his death.

Funeral services were held at Milton First Assembly of God Saturday, January 21 at 10 a. m. Burial was at Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers the family wishes for donations to be made to both The Gideons International, Santa Rosa Chapter and/or Milton First Assembly’s building fund.

Mildred Simmons Dean

January 21, 2012

Mildred Simmons Dean, 89 of Little River, AL,  died Saturday, January 21, 2012, at her residence. She was a homemaker, born in Lottie, AL, on July 20, 1922, to the late Charlie and Edith Chambliss Simmons.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hilud Dean.

She is survived by two sons: Charlie Dean and wife, Martha, Robert Dean and wife, Angela, all of Little River; one daughter, Diane Spence and husband John of Walnut Hill; seven grandchildren, Tracie, Don, Jaime, Noah, Jacob, Hannah, and Mary Kathryn; and one great-grandSon, Brady.

Services will be Sunday January 22, 2012, at 2:30 p.m. from Little River Baptist Church, with Rev. Wayne McMillian officiating. Interment will follow in the Little River Baptist Church Cemetery.

Family will receive friends Sunday January 22, 2012, at the church one hour prior to service time.

Gladys M. Smith

January 20, 2012

Gladys M. Smith, 94, of Walnut Hill died Thursday January 19, 2012, in Pensacola. She was a retired  seamstress with Vanity Fair Mills born in Opp, AL, on September 7, 1917,  to the late Shirley and Bessie Knowles Money.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Smith,  sister Hazel Parrish, and brother Buster Money.

She is survived by a son, Lamar Smith and wife Madonna of Dogwood Park; a sister, Lois Wells of Sopchoppy, FL, two grandchildren, Victor Smith of Crestview,  Candace Eick and husband Eric of Leesburg, GA; and one great-grandchild, Ryan Eick of Leesburg, GA.

Graveside services will be Monday January 23, 2012, at 11 a.m.  in the Walnut Hill Baptist Cemetery, with Rev. Ted Bridges officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Regency Hospice,  4900 Bayou Blvd, #101, Pensacola, FL 32503.

J.L. (Joe) Watts

January 20, 2012

J.L. (Joe) Watts was called home to be with his heavenly Father on January 19, 2012. He was born to Joseph L. and Annie Watts on March 17, 1920, in Century.

He is preceded in death by brothers Howard and Heron, sisters Olice Sharritt and Mattie Archer.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Jane; sons Joseph L. Watts III (Paula), Michael L. Watts (Linda) and daughter Julia M. Cates; his grandchildren Chad Watts, Les McGee, Brittany and Dakota Eggert, Rachelle (Kevin) Creel, Jennifer (Brad) Salmon. He had seven great grandchildren – Kacey, Tucker, Karagan, Kori Beth, Andrew and Jacob; one sister, Kathleen Broxson of Pace; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Watts proudly served his country in World War II in the South Pacific. He retired from the Air Force in 1964 and then went on to work for Kmart, Corp. in 1984. Joe loved to fish and hunt. He and his wife, Jane spent many hours out on the water together. Joe and Jane had a long happy journey thru life together. J.L. loved his Lord and was a devoted husband and father. We have so many wonderful memories of him. He will be missed so much.

Special thanks to Pensacola Health Center and Emerald Coast Hospice for their love and care.

Funeral services will be at  noon on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at Olive Baptist Church with Dr. Ted Traylor officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Shaun Hall, Timmy Hall, Harold Rich, Cleve Hanks, Steve Hall and Jay Gaines. Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Salmon and Kevin Creel.

Elizabeth Dally Bazo

January 20, 2012

Mrs. Elizabeth Dally Boutwell Bazo, went to meet her Savior face to face on Wednesday January 18, 2012. Elizabeth was born to James and Liney Cobb in Northern Escambia County.

At a very young age, she was adopted by Clarence and Bessie Dally of St. Petersburg, FL. She graduated in the class of 1940 from St. Pete High School. She moved to Pensacola to join the Cadet Nurse Corps, graduating in 1944 as an RN. After a brief marriage to James Adams, she met and married Norman Boutwell. After the death of Norman, she married Ben Bazo.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by late husband, Ben Bazo; bother of her natural and adoptive parents; two brothers, John Hendley and Wes Cobb, as well as her adoptive brother, Ralph Dally and his daughter, Jeannie.

Left to miss her and to cherish her memories are her two sisters, Betty (herb) and Emma; her son, Michael (Hazel); two grandchildren, Trisha (Chuck) and Toby (Jamie); seven great-grandchildren, Kevin, Athena, Jordyn, Courtney, Hannah, Ezra and Elijah; also several nieces and nephews and a special Latina sister, Lolli.

She wished to thank all the staff at Specialty Center of Pensacola.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection Church with Reverend David Robatzen officiating. Interment will follow at Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Douglas Gwin Weaver

January 18, 2012

Douglas Gwin Weaver, a loving husband, father and grandfather, died unexpectedly on January 15, 2012. Douglas was born June 1, 1942, in Evergreen, AL.

He was preceded in death by his parents W.R. and Lena Weaver and brothers, W.A., Newton, DeWitt and Ronnie.

He is survived by Judy, his wife of 44 years; his daughter, Shelly (Jerry) Helton; son, Mark (Becky) Weaver; his granddaughters, Taylor, Morgan and Julia, who were the apples of his eye; his grandson, Douglas Cade, his newest pride and joy; his brother, Shannon (Malva) Weaver; his sisters, Helen (Jim) Butler, Yvonne (Ken) Chambers, Glenda (Don) Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

Douglas was a long time resident of the Clear Springs, AL, and Cantonment. He was a 1960 graduate of Tate High School. He served in the United States Army in Anchorage, AK. He enjoyed a long career in the logging industry and was the owner of M&S Logging. He spent many happy hours farming and raising cattle.

Douglas had the strong hands and firm handshake of a working man with a kind and generous heart always willing to help those who needed him.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North-Cantonment. Interment will follow at Clear Springs Cemetery in Clear Springs, AL. Serving, as pallbearers will be Doyle Weaver, Archie Weaver, Michael Patrick, Jimmy Elliott, Tommy Chastang and Bob Baggett, Jr.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, January 17, 2012, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

William “Bill” Herston Dorriety

January 17, 2012

William “Bill” Herston Dorriety, age 74, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012. He was a native of Huxford, AL, a former longtime resident of Atmore and a current resident of Point Clear, AL.

Herston was a former member of St. Robert’s Catholic Church in Atmore and a current member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was also a co-owner of Sunbelt Chemicals in Atmore.

Mr. Dorriety was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Elizabeth Grace Dorriety.

He is survived by his wife, Gwen Dorriety of Point Clear; son, Greg Dorriety and his wife Donna of Fairhope; daughter, Alison Neumann and her husband Alfred M., Jr., of Point Clear; grandchildren, William Herston Dorriety, II, A. Miles Neumann, III, Alexander S. Neumann, William B. Neumann; brothers, John G. Dorriety of Atmore, Roy C. Dorriety of Attalla, AL; sister, Dorothy A. Dorriety of Atmore; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial mass will be held from St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Monday, January 16, 2012, at 11:00 a.m.

The family will receive friends in the St. Lawrence room at the church, following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Alabama Veteran’s Cemetery, Spanish Fort, AL, or the charity of your choice.

Mary M. Carroll of Pensacola passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2012. Mary was born on August 19, 1926 in Hartford, AL and had lived in Pensacola since 1953.

Mary retired from 43 years of government service, having worked at NAS Pensacola Public Works for 32 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Albert and her parents, John H. and Lela Maude (Childs) Melton.

She is survived by a daughter, Dr. Betty Poe and her husband Don of Garden Ridge, TX; a son, James F. (Jim) Carroll and his wife Sharon (Kilpatrick) of Cantonment; and a daughter, Sue Carroll of Allen, TX. She has seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 1:30 PM until services begin at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd., Pensacola. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Gerry Poe, Gordon Melton, Raymond Gambill and Ryan Holmes.

Hollis McGhee

January 17, 2012

Mr. Hollis McGhee, 64, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2012, in Pensacola.

Mr. McGhee was a native of Atmore, a former resident of Baldwin County, and a resident of Atmore for the past 14 years. He was a member of the Poarch Creek Indians, loved horses and attended the Friendly Holiness Church.

He was preceded in death by seven siblings.

Survivors include two sons, Bryan and Kim McGhee of Atmore and Hollis Wade McGhee, Jr. of Silverhill, AL; a special friend, Billie Englett of Loxley; three daughters, Courtney Adams of Robertsdale, Carla Godwin of Loxley and Casie Harcus of Bonifay, FL; nine grandchildren; his stepmother, Erdeal McGhee of Atmore; two brothers, Murphy McGhee of Pensacola and Leonard and RaeAnn McGhee of Richmond, VA; two stepbrothers, Larry Maddox of North, AL and Andy Maddox of Elgin, IL; three sisters, Margaret Owens of Pensacola, Norma Arrnett of Pensacola and Clemmie McGhee of Ft. Walton Beach; and two stepsisters, JoAnn Rawles of Atmore and Marilyn Bohn of Elgin, IL.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Friendly Holiness Church with the Rev. Ray Ward officiating.

Burial will follow at the New Home Cemetery with Petty Funeral Homes, LLC directing.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 17, 2012, from 6 p.m. until funeral time at the Friendly Holiness Church.

Marcus Jackson O’Gwynn, Jr.

Mr. Marcus Jackson O’Gwynn, Jr., age 48 of Atlanta, passed away on January 15, 2012, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA.

Mr. O’Gwynn was born in Evergreen, AL, and worked for Simione Healthcare Consultants as a compliance officer.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ilda Ruth (Johnny) Harrell of Flomaton; aunt, Jo (David) Nolin of Flomaton and numerous other much loved family members and loved ones.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Atmore First Assembly of God Church with Bro. Don Davis officiating. Visitation will begin at noon and will continue until service time at 1 p.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Flomaton Cemetery.
