Myrtle (Snooksie) Leigh Brantley McElhaney Dunn

Myrtle (Snooksie) Leigh Brantley McElhaney Dunn, of Loxley, formerly of Atmore,  passed away Wednesday June 13, 2012. She was born in Canoe on May 13, 1923. She graduated from Monroe County High School in 1942. She worked at Brookley Field during WWII and retired in 1985 from Vanity Fair after 37 years of service.

Her first husband of 10 years Andrew Lee McElhaney was killed in a work related accident in 1960. Her second husband of 44 yrs, John Willard Dunn died in 2008.

Also preceding her in death were her parents, Thomas F. and Martha (McCorkel) Brantley; all of her brothers and sisters and their spouses, William F. (Myra) Brantley, Janie (Dave) Womack, Carey (Mittie) Brantley, Katie (Otto) Biggs, Susie Nell (M.L.) Davis, Lucille (Adrain) Summerlin, Edward E. (Martha) Brantley.

Although she had no biological descendents her nieces and nephews were her children.

She is survived by Betty Davis of Loxley,Al. W.Clyde (Marsha) Brantley of Mobile, Bobby L. (Pattie) Brantley of Tallahassee, Franklin Buddy (Frances) Biggs of Atmore,  Thomas L. Biggs of Washington D.C., many more nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and a host of cousins.

Services will be Saturday June 16, 2012, at 2 p.m. from the Pine Level Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Eugene Freeland officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers will be, Clyde Brantley, Bobby Brantley, Bill Brantley, Lennie Brantley, Joe Brantley and Betty Davis.

Family will receive friends, Friday evening June 15, 2012, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m.

Gerald D. Robinson, Sr.

June 13, 2012

Gerald D. Robinson, Sr., age 90, passed away in Tallahassee on June 11, 2012, with his family at his side after a courageous battle with cancer.

He moved from Century where he lived for 35 years before moving to Broadview Assisted Living in Tallahassee in 2010 to be near his children.

Gerald was a WWII veteran having served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-45 in Pearl Harbor and Guadalcanal. He later served in the U.S. Army Air Corp and U.S. Air Force from 1946-1963 rising to the rank of Master Sergeant before his active duty retirement. He was a master aircraft mechanic who helped to maintain our nation’s fleet of B-29s, B-36s, B-47s, and B-52s.

Gerald was a member of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Florida for 47 years, a member of Shriners International (Hadji Temple), the Scottish Rite, and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Gerald was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Florella Hanks Robinson.

He is survived by his three children, Gerald Robinson, Jr. (Jane) of Tallahassee; Phillip M. Robinson (Daviette) of Pendleton, SC and Carol Robinson Rosen (Hank) of Tallahassee; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

America has lost another veteran from the “Greatest Generation”. We have lost a sweet, kind gentleman who loved his family greatly and was devoted to his late wife. His quick wit and sense of humor will be missed and remembered by all who knew him.

Graveside services will be held Friday, June 15, 2012, at 10:15 a.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery on board Pensacola Naval Air Station.

In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made in Gerald’s name to Florida Shriners Children’s Hospital (Tampa) c/o Marzuq Shrine Temple, PO Box 37130, Tallahassee, FL 32315; or Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd, Tallahassee, Fl 32308.

Vera C. McCrory, age 84 of Cantonment, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at a local hospital.

Vera was a faithful member of Gonzalez Baptist Church. She retired from Travelers Insurance Company. She enjoyed traveling and reading.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Franklin McCrory; parents, Eben and Liberta Cartwright; one brother, J.C. Cartwright and grandson, Daniel Tennett.

She is survived by her two sons, Michael S. McCrory and Eben V. McCrory; two daughters, Theresa L. Evans (Wayne) and Cynthia D. Gaines (Bart); grandchildren, Amanda Evans, Amber McCurley, Ashley Cox, Michael S. McCrory II, Matthew McCrory, Diane Gaines, J.C. McCrory, Patrick Gaines and Kristen McCrory; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Rupert Cartwright and wife, Catherine; two sisters, Lera Nell Skipper and Linda Cartwright and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Friday, June 15, 2012, at noon from Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Reverend Roy Chewning officiating.Interment will follow at Pine Level Baptist Cemetery in Jay.

Harold Eugene Harrison

Mr. Harold Eugene Harrison, 72, died Thursday, June 7, 2012m in Pensacola. He was a native and resident of Atmore. He attended the Church of the Living God, was a U.S. Navy veteran and a former employee of Exxon and Mallard.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ernie Holden; a granddaughter, Maggie Noell; his parents, Ezie Lee and Luvern Harrison; and two sisters, Verna Mae Harris and Alice Ruth Harris.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie Harrison of Robertsdale; five sons, Harold Eugene (Dana ) Harrison II, Bobby Carlos (Debbie) Harrison, Christopher Robin (Sharon) Holden and Michael Wayne Jordan, all of Atmore, and Joe Arnold (Linda) Holden of Thomasville; five daughters, Cheryl Ann Crews of Summerdale, Robilyn Olivia (Robby) Whatley of McDavid, Henrietta (Dusty) Adams of Walnut Hill, Jaquelyn Lorraine (Jeffrey) Flowers of Tuscaloosa and Lisa Lynette Noell of Draper, VA.; four brothers, the Rev. Earl Harrison, Robert (Faye) Harrison, Donald Ray (Barbara) Harrison, all of Atmore, and David Michael (Viva) Harrison of East Brewton; five sisters, Mary Helen (Charlie) Jones, Dorothy Ann Milstead, and Kaye (Kenneth) Robinson, all of Atmore, Faye (Eddie) Odom of Perdido, and Sarah Frances (Ken) O’Leary of Robertsdale; 28 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 12, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Harrison and Brother Robert Harrison officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery with Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Grady “Buddy” Johnson, Jr.

June 11, 2012

Mr. Grady “Buddy” Johnson, Jr., age 73 of Mossy Head passed away early Saturday, June 9, 2012, in a Crestview healthcare facility. He was born July 7, 1938m in Pine Apple, AL, the son of Grady Ely Johnson, Sr. and Maude Lillian Branch Johnson. “5 Speed”, as he was known by his family and close friends, loved hunting and fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid dog hunter and loved to hear the dogs run. He also loved fishing and nothing tickled him more than having his whole family around him while he was fishing. Christmas Eve was one of his favorite times of the year because he would have most of his children and grandchildren around him. Those that weren’t there were contacted to feel closer to them. Buddy was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Mossy Head.

He is predeceased by his wife Nora Dell Gainey Johnson who passed away in 2001.

Among survivors are his children, Donald, Ronald and Angie, Barbara, Jimmy and Roy and wife Caroline; his brothers and sisters, Nyokia Cawthon, Joyce Blair and husband Bert, Royce and wife Lola, Allen and wife Regina, Ruby Nell Heisler and J.R., and Howard and wife Connie; his half brother, Otis and his half sister, Evelyn Guttium; his grandchildren, Rebecca, Jacob, Ryan, Megan, Ashley, Taylor and Krystal; great granddaughter Peyton; special friends, John White, Ted Wise, Trish Porter Hutchison and Tom Terrell .

Floral arrangements will be accepted. A time of visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m.. in Jerry Evans Chapel. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at 10:00 a.m.. in Jerry Evans Chapel with Dr. Bill Ferrand officiating. Burial will follow in the Johnson Family Plot in Mossy Head Cemetery.

Elizabeth Ann “Lizzy” Boutwell

Elizabeth Ann “Lizzy” Boutwell, age 58 of Atmore passed away Thursday June 7, 2012, in Atmore.

She was retired from Vanity Fair Mills as a seamstress, born in Atmore on September 10, 1953, to William Jefferson and Ester Ardis Salter, Jr.

She is preceded in death by two sisters, Lottie Caraway and Dorothy Caraway.

Survivors are her husband, Joseph Floyd Boutwell, Jr of Atmore two sons, John Salter and wife, Amanda of Atmore,  Joseph Boutwell III and wife, Autumn of Bay Minette; one daughter, Emily Boutwell and Jeffery Richardson of Atmore;  three brothers, Charles Salter, William J. Salter, Jr. and wife Angie, Dwayne Salter and wife, Linda all of Atmore; three sisters, Dottie Harrelson and husband, James, Mary Janie Caraway and husband Pete, Shirley White and husband Larry all of Atmore;  three grandchildren, Kara Tuberville, KeOnna Richardson and Joseph Boutwell III.

Services will be Tuesday June 12, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Sister Helen Fretwell officiating.

Eulene Cooper Carroll, age 74, of Milton, went home to be with her Lord, on Monday, June 4, 2012. She was from Flomaton and resided in the Pensacola and Milton area for many years.

She was preceded in death by her Mother Bertha Cooper; her husband of 43 years Emanuel Carroll; father and mother in law Lonnie M. and Carmon Carroll; brother in law Clyde Carroll and brother and sister in law Lloyd and Betty Carroll.

She is survived by her daughter Carmon Cooley; son Mandel Carroll; grandchild Chana Sweeney; great grandchildren Damon Taylor and Cameron McDuffie; sister in law Yvonne Carroll; brother and sister in law Grady and Kathy Carroll; brother and sister in law Robert and Peggy Carroll; sister in law Linda Connor; sister and brother in law Barbara and Danny Glass, all of Milton. sister in law Eunice Melvin of Las Vegas, NV; brother and sister in law Lonnie and Bonnie Carroll of Jay; brother and sister in law Preston and Toni Carroll of Port Alle, LA, and sister and brother in law Sharon and Frank Cope of Houston TX, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Eulene touched many lives and will be truly missed by all who had a special place in their heart for her.

Judy Marie Ging

June 7, 2012

Judy Ging of Molino, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2012, after a courageous six year battle with cancer. She was a lifelong member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

She was a loving daughter, wife and mother that enjoyed the beach, working in her yard, antiquing, reading, and being JuJu and mam to her grandchildren. She enjoyed being involved with her church and giving her time to numerous community and volunteer services. She also loved traveling near and far with her “sissies” that were with her on her last journey to be with Johnny.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, John Ging Jr. and her parents, Jamie and Evelyn McCurdy.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Nowlin; son, Jayson (Karen) Ging; grandchildren, Dylan Nowlin, Hanna Ging and Austin Ging; brother, Don (Susy) McCurdy and her sister, Kay Iannone.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society or Aldersgate Cemetery Fence Fund.

Martha Alene Singleton, age 81 of Molino, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2012, at a local hospital. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cantonment. Ms. Singleton retired from Monsanto

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph R. Singleton.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Edward Singleton (Barbara); two grandchildren, Roger and Christy Singleton and three siblings, Hilton Davis, Dot Moore and Charles Rueben Davis (Wilodone).

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Bayview Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Will Stone officiating.

The family will receive friends at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, from 11:00 a.m. until noon.
