Goldie J. Morris

Mrs. Goldie J. Morris, 88, passed away on July 11, 2012, in Atmore.

Mrs. Morris was a native of Burnesville, MS, a former resident of Monroeville and a resident of Atmore for most of her life. Mrs. Morris was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and she attended Brooks Memorial Baptist Church.

Mrs. Morris was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Edward Morris and grandson David Morgan.

She is survived by one son, G. Allen (Brenda) Morris of Marietta, GA; one daughter, Sylvia Morgan (Bernard Owens) of Atmore; two brothers, Alton (Junior) Forrester and Don Forrester both of Columbia, MS; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 14, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Dave Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, July 13, 2012, from 5-8 p.m. at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be John Morgan, Scott Morris, Paul Gillikan, Gary Weathers, William Forrester and David Forrester.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Rebekah’s Sunday School Class.

Ronald “Chris” Christopherson

Ronald “Chris” Christopherson, 69, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012. Chris was a retired U.S. Navy veteran with service in Vietnam. He was actively involved in several churches and a member of Charity Baptist Church. He loved gospel music, traveling, and his pet dog “Katy”.
Chris was preceded in death by his grandfather, Christopher Christopherson; his parents, Henry George and Gladys A. Christopherson; and brother, Gerald Christopherson.
He is survived by his wife, Carla; brother, Norman George Christopherson (Wanda); numerous nieces and nephews; step-son, Larry Williams; eight grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 10 -11 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2012, at Charity Baptist Church, 1675 West Roberts Road, Cantonment. Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. with Dr. James McGaughey officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola.

Chipley Erlene Simmons

July 12, 2012

Chipley Erlene Simmons, daughter of Marion C. Diamond (Chip) and Cora Leigh Diamond was born on May 29, 1927. She passed away on July 11, 2012.

She attended Chumuckla School and was a member of the Chumuckla girls basketball team. She married Clyde M. Simmons on July 30, 1947. They were married 62 years when he passed away on April 26, 2010. They will join together in Heaven to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary this month. Clyde and Erlene had been members of the Cora Baptist Church most of their lives.

They had two children. Jerry Clyde, born in 1948 and Kathy Darlene, born in 1957. Erlene worked for the Santa Rosa County Health Department at the clinic in Jay for 22 years. She retired in 1988.

Erlene Simmons loved the Lord, her family and being an exemplary homemaker. She is known for her amazing cooking, beautiful gardens and extreme generosity.

She is survived by her son Jerry (Cindi); daughter Kathy (James) Walker;  her grand-children Jerry Clyde ,II(Bonni) Simmons, Fred (Julie) Simmons, Scott (Logan) Walker, Mick Walker, Robert Kane and Kenny Kane; and her great granddaughter “Allie”. Other family members include her sister Gladysteen Renfroe, brother Douglas Wayne (Janis) Diamond and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Chip and Cora Diamond, husband, Clyde Simmons , brothers, A.C. Diamond and Jim Diamond.

A visitation will be held Friday, July 13  from 6-8 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 13 at Cora Baptist Church with Rev. LaDon Hall officiating.

Pallbearers are Jerry Clyde Simmons II, Scott Walker, Mick Walker, Wayne Hawthorne, Mickey Brown and Bryan Ellis. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Dobson, Merlin Edwards, Frank Rowell, Jerry McGee and Leon Jackson.

Clyde Calvin Byrd

Clyde Calvin Byrd, 70 of Atmore passed away Tuesday July 10, 2012, at his residence. He was retired from CSX Railroad, born in Huxford, Al on June 19, 1942 to the late Patrick Garvey and Myrtle Croley Byrd.

Survivors are two sons, Paul Byrd and wife, Tina of Brewton, Raymond Byrd and wife, Nancy of Fort Deposit, AL;  one brother, Vernon Byrd and wife Melba of Mobile; one sister, Pat Baxter and husband, Levon of St.Elmo, AL; three grandchildren, Christian Byrd, Zackary Byrd, and Stephanie Byrd; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday July 14, 2012, at 11 a.m. from the Huxford Reorganized Latter Day Saints Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors.

Family will receive friends Saturday July 14, 2012, at the church one hour prior to service time.

Joyce Ann Knotts Ashcraft

Joyce Ann Knotts Ashcraft, age 69, of Jay, passed away July 9, 2012. She had resided in Jay since 1968. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Eva Knotts; two sisters Elaine Knotts and Ruth Tedder.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years Paul Ashcraft; son Jeffrey (Emerald) Ashcraft; brothers Gene (Shelby) Knotts and Alvin Knotts; grandchildren Libby, Ian and Ethan Ashcraft and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 19, 2012 from 6-8 P.M. at Jay Funeral Home.

John W. “Bill” Wilson

John W. “Bill” Wilson, of Pace, passed away at his home on July 6, 2012. Bill was born in Pollard, AL on November 24, 1939. He was the owner of Wilson Auto Sales in Pensacola until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Ellen Wilson; brothers Walter Wilson and Ray Blackmon and sister Pat Edwards.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Shirley Windham Wilson of Pace; sons Jeff (Jennifer) Wilson of Pace, Thomas Wilson of Vidor, Texas, Mike (Susan) Wilson of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Sarah, Abbie and Noah Wilson; and one sister, Betty Pritchett of Albertville, AL.

Visitation was held at Wallace Baptist Church in Pace on Monday, July 9, 2012. Funeral services followed at 2:00 p.m. Bro. Bud Doctor and Bro. Andy Martin officiating. Burial was at Cora Baptist Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Dr. Matthew Kinzelman for his compassionate care and friendship. In memory of Bill, the family would appreciate any donation made to Emerald Coast Hospice for their loving care.

Kale R. Schneider

My husband, our father, grandfather, brother and friend, Kale Raymond Schneider was born on May 28, 1944, to Raymond and Margaret Mininger Schneider  in Alma, Michigan, and passed away on our farm July 7, 2012, reaching 68 years of age. Death was caused by a tragic accident while operating his bulldozer, an activity he thoroughly enjoyed.

Those left to treasure his memory are me, Donna, his loving wife; three sons, Ronald and wife Tracey of Bratt, Sheldon and wife Sara of Davisville and Gregory and wife Carmela of Jonesboro, Arkansas;  two daughters, Cynthia and husband Ron Koehn of Burns, Kansas and Cheryl and husband Kenton Regehr of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada; his parents, Raymond and Margaret Schneider; one brother, Royce and wife Marilyn of Walnut Hill; four sisters, Sally and husband Robert Toews of Kingsville, Ontario, Canada, Polly and husband Lyle Wiebe of Mitchell, Ontario, Canada, Rose and husband Carlos Koehn, and Susan of Walnut Hill; his parents-in-law Jake and Eunice Smith of Brooksville, Mississippi; one brother-in-law, Larry Smith and wife Karen, of Surprise, Arizona; two sisters-in-law, Patricia and husband Mark Johnson, and Marilyn and husband Royce Schneider, both of Walnut Hill;  13 grandchildren; and many, many relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by twin grandsons, Lance and Lane Schneider.

Services will be Wednesday July 11, 2012 at 10am from Southern Harbor Mennonite Church, with minister Galen Harms, minister Mike Koehn, and minister Verle Peters officiating.

Interment will follow in Walnut Hill Memorial Gardens.

Family will receive friends Tuesday evening July 10, 2012, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore.

Ann-Cile Hall Key

Ann-Cile Hall Key, resident of Spanish Fort, Alabama and formerly of McDavid, died on July 6, 2012. She was 90 years old. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and worshiped nearly all her life at the Canoe Church of Christ. She was a retired teacher, having taught for decades in Escambia County Florida and Alabama. Born in Canoe, Alabama to Lucile Watson Hall and Andrew Arthur Hall, she was the granddaughter of Dr. James Thomas Jefferson Watson and Nancy Jane Mims Watson, and Andrew Jackson Hall and Elizabeth Brown Hall. She graduated from the University of Alabama and obtained a masters degree.

Survivors include her husband, Glynn Clayton Key, Jr. of Spanish Fort; a sister, Carolyn Hall Conn, of Canoe, and sister in law, Sarah Rutherford Hall, of Canoe. Nieces and nephews are Susan L. Hall, Atmore; Arthur James Hall (Ann), Pensacola; Dr. Carolyn Ringhoffer (Joseph), Mobile; Celia Vickery Lewis (Mack), Mobile; Emily Hall Vickery, Pensacola; William W. Vickery, Jr. of Cleveland, GA.; Nancy Vickery Clark (Thomas), Casper, WY.; Samuel B. Love, Jr. (Kay), Summerfield, FL.; and John Hall Love, Summerfield, FL; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 9, 2012, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel in Atmore, with Rick Whittle, minister of Spanish Fort church of Christ, will presiding. Interment was in the Hall Family Cemetery in Canoe. Pallbearers were Samuel B. Love, Andrew B. Love, Samuel Love, Arthur James Hall, William W.Vickery, Jr., and John Hall Love.

Howard M. McDavid

Howard M. McDavid died, Thursday, July 05, 2012.

Howard McDavid was born in Century. He joined the military after high school and was stationed in Japan, where he met his late wife, Hisa. After the military, he was a Civil Service employee with N.A.S. Howard was employed for more than 38 years and retired due to health reasons.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ora McDavid; his sisters, Mary S. McDavid and Ann Tillman; brother, Glen; and his wife of 62 years, Hisa.

Howard is survived by his children, Joyce Stevens (Oliver), Linda McDavid, Christopher McDavid (Cheryl); six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was a member of Resurrection Baptist Church for many years and will be missed by his friends and family.

Friends are welcome for visitation at Bayview Memorial from 2-3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, with funeral services to follow.

Helen Marie Floyd Carnley

Helen Marie Floyd Carnley, age 85, of Century, passed away Friday, July 6, 2012, in Pensacola. Mrs. Carnley was a native of Jay and a longtime resident of Century. She was of the Baptist faith.

She is preceded in death by her husband, L.J. Carnley; son, Jackie Carnley; daughter, Gloria Johnson; grandchild, Frankie (Trucker) Carnley; parents, Todd and Pearl Floyd; sister, June McCreless and a brother, J.T. Floyd.

She is survived by her three daughters; JoAnn Williamson of Flomaton; Joyce Carnley of Century and Joan (Earl) DeWise of Flomaton; two sons, Rickey (Marie) Carnley of McDavid; and Frankie (Kay) Carnley of Flomaton; three sisters, Dorothy Lee of Pensacola; Lois Hughes of Pensacola and Hazel Chavis of Tallahassee; three brothers, Carl Floyd (Alecia) McLellan, FL; G.W. Floyd (Pebbles) of Jay; and Curt Floyd of Jay; nine grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren and a special pet Miss Dollie.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at 11 a.m. from the Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Sister Letha Carnley officiating. Burial will follow at Cora Baptist Church Cemetery in Jay.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 10, 2012, from 10-11 a.m. at Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

Active Pallbearers will be Kevin Carnley, Jackie Wayne Carnley, Shawn Emmons, Heath Johnson, Cory Johnson, Jason Carnley and Dusty Carnley.
