Franklin Judge Vann

Franklin Judge Vann, age 77 of Jay, died on Thursday, September 20, 2012.

He was a lifelong resident of Jay. He was a member of Ebenezer Church and retired from the Santa Rosa School System. He enjoyed fishing, mowing grass and raking pine straw. He was a kind good hearted person who had many friends and enjoyed talking to everyone.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Judge and Lonnie Vann; sister, Daisey Cox and brother, James Vann.

He is survived by brother Bill (Mildred) Vann; sister, Mittie Allen and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2012, from 12-2 p.m. at Ebenezer Church. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Bobby Carnley officiating services. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Brent “Elroy” Roberts

September 21, 2012

Mr. Brent “Elroy” Roberts, 55, passed away on September 16, 2012, at an Atmore hospital.

Mr. Roberts was a native of Atmore and has resided in Atmore for most of his life. Mr. Roberts is preceded in death by his father, Erby Lee Roberts.

Survivors include his mother, Melbus Roberts of Atmore;  son, Nicholas (Ashlee) Roberts of Atmore; daughter, Ashley (Jason Rousseau) Roberts of Huffman, TX; brother, Darrell (Karen) Roberts of Ozark, MO; three sisters, Lettie Marie (Lawrence) Capers of Gonzalez, LA, Marilyn Parker of Perdido and Deborah (Michael) Doucet of Gonzalez, LA; two grandchildren, Kayden Bryars and Kinsleigh Roberts; two nieces and six nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, September 20, 2012, Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Dorsey McDonald officiating.

Burial was at Guy’s Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Erby Parker, Charles Dean, Jeremy Rayborn, Nick Agerton, Chris Blackmon and Jimmy Campbell.

Honorary pallbearers were L.C. Moore and Fred Pruett.

Robilyn Olivia “Libby” Whatley

Robilyn Olivia “Libby” Whatley, 51, of Walnut Hill, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012, in Pensacola. She was a homemaker, born in Pensacola on April 30, 1961, to Harold and Jackie Hart Harrison, Sr.

She was preceded in death by, her father, Harold Harrison, Sr; brother, Earnie Holden; and cousin, Courtney Talmage.

She is survived by her husband, Willis Whatley of Walnut Hill; mother, Jackie Harrison of Atmore; three sons, Eddie Kirby and Willis R. Whatley, both of Atmore; Walter A. Whatley of North, AL; three daughters, Kristi Kirby of Walnut Hill; Melissa Jay Whatley of Baldwin County; and Crystal Whatley of Tampa; five brothers, Robin Holden and Bobby Harrison both of Atmore, Joey Holden of Thomasville, AL, Harold Harrison II and Micheal Jordan both of Atmore; four sisters, Jackie Flowers of Tuscaloosa; Cheryl Crews of Summerdale; Lisa Noell of Draper, VA and Henrietta Adams of Walnut Hill; and a host of grandchildren.

Services were held Wednesday, September 19, 2012, Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Glenn Weber officiating.

Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Eunice Powell Brantley Smith

September 21, 2012

Eunice Powell Brantley Smith, 88, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 17, 2012, in Century. She was a homemaker, born in Pollard, AL on September 04, 1924, to the late C.T. and Rachel Nowling Powell. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Flomaton.

She is preceded in death by husbands, John H. Brantley and Allen Smith; five brothers, and one sister.

She is survived by three sons, Jimmy (Faye) Brantley of Flomaton, Wayne A. (Sandra) Smith and Vernon (Janet) Smith all of Valley, AL; one daughter, Carolyn (Haywood) Rowland of Flomaton; four grandchildren, Bukie Murph, Malett Rowland, John Brantley and Missy Brantley; and two great-grandchildren, Christopher Rowland and Jordan Rowland.

Services were held Thursday, September 20, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of Flomaton with Rev. Jerry Keese, Rev. J.T. Guyton and Rev. Dustin Stockstill officiating.

Interment was in Flomaton Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Mickey Powell, Kenny Powell, Scottie Waller, Jordan Rowland, Speedy Brantley and Dewey Bondurant.

Billy Ray Downey

September 15, 2012

Mr. Billy Ray Downey, 79, passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2012, in Atmore.

Mr. Downey was a native of Nokomis and a life-long resident of Atmore. Mr. Downey was a retired pipe fitter and a partner at B & J Bait Shop for years. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Downey; one son, Marty Downey; and parents Robert and Elma Downey.

Survivors include two daughters, Vickie (Terry) Day of McCullough and Debbie Still of Atmore; seven grandchildren, Amy Day, Megan Day, Justin Still, Heidi (Nathan) Dortch, Destiny Downey, Miles Downey and Trinity Downey; seven great-grandchildren, Tristen Boothe, Tanner Jackson, Tyler Jackson, Bailey Knighten, Kirsten Still, Jayden Still and Bryleigh Still.

Funeral services will be Sunday, September 16, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Don Davis officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 15, 2012, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jason Cox, Ronnie Barnhill, Ricky Nelson, Randy Baker, Johnny Hadley and James Wall.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Perkins, Don White, Bobby McCall and Freddie Godwin.

Gary E. Early

September 11, 2012

Gary E. Early, 72 of Cantonment, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2012, at home surrounded by his family after a courageous fight with colon cancer.

Gary was born on June 4, 1940 in Pensacola to Joseph T. Early, Sr. and Ora L. Early. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph T. Early, Sr., and brother Joseph T. Early Jr. (Buddy).

He is survived by his loving wife Susan of 13 years; mother Ora L. Early; children, Gary E. Early II (Kelly), H. Bradford Early (Kim), Byron Hubble, Crystal Sherman (Kenny), Melissa Robinson; ten grandchildren, one brother Bill Early (Sarah); two sisters, Pamela Williamson, Linda Alvarez (Mike); numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.

Gary graduated from Pensacola High School and received his BS degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. He was a Certified Public Accountant for the last 48 years and owned several additional businesses in the surrounding Pensacola area throughout the years.

He was an active member of the St. Monica’s Episcopal Church in Cantonment and member of the Moose Lodge. Gary enjoyed Rving, Nascar, Motocross racing, fishing, and greatly enjoyed time spent with family and friends.

A memorial service in Gary’s honor will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 6 p.m. at St. Monica’s Episcopal Church with the Reverend Milledge Baker officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to St. Monica’s Episcopal Church.

A private burial will be held at St. Monica’s Memorial Gardens at a later date.

James Devoter Arrington

Mr. James Devoter Arrington, Jr., age 60 of Flomaton, passed away at his home on Friday, September 7, 2012.

Mr. Arrington was a native of Century, but was a lifetime resident of Flomaton where he was a member of the 1970 graduating class of Flomaton High School, the football team and a member of Flomaton First Baptist Church. Mr. Arrington was a veteran of the United States Army having been stationed in Germany and serving there during the Vietnam War. Mr. Arrington loved to garden.

He is survived by his parents, James and Margaret Stallworth Arrington, Sr. of Flomaton; brother, William (Irma) Arrington of Flomaton; sister, Gail (Keith) Stokes of Pensacola; three nieces, four great nieces and one great nephew; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Graveside services will be held for Mr. Arrington on Sunday, September 9, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Flomaton Cemetery with Rev. Freddy Stallworth officiating.

Hubert Wade Dunsford

Hubert Wade Dunsford, 81 of Century, passed away Tuesday, September 4, 2012, in Pensacola.

Known to most as Wade Dunsford, he was born in Jay, August 8,1931. He served our country in the Army for 20 years, served in the Korean War and retired with honorable service. For the past 30 years, he has been a faithful member of Faith Bible Baptist Church in Bluff Springs.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Eucedar Dunsford, one brother, Gene Dunsford, one sister, Sadie Burkett, and two sons, Roger Wade and James Raymond Dunsford.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anna Mae Dunsford; daughters, Donna Jean Bare (Brian) and Vicki Lynn Godwin (Jimmy); three sons, Richard Wade Dunsford (Judy), Michael Patrick Dunsford (Tami), and William Jay Dunsford (Valerie); 16 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Clifton Dunsford (Barbara), and James (Judy) Dunsford; and two sisters, Josie Driver (Cecil) and Mollie Dunsford.

Services were held at Faith Bible Baptist Church in Bluff Springs on Friday, September 7, 2012 with Bro. Ricky Dunsford, Pastor Robert Barrow and Bro. Gene Stokes will officiating.

Burial was at Byrneville Methodist Church in Byrneville.

Delois J. Kimmons

September 8, 2012

Mrs. Delois J. Kimmons, 78, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, in Atmore.

Mrs. Kimmons was a native of Dry Springs and a resident of Davisville her entire life. She was an employee of the Escambia County Florida School System; she was a bookkeeper at Davisville and Century. She was the youngest of 12 children born to Jim and Rachel Joiner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Kimmons, nine siblings, Agnes Allen, Bessie Hollingsworth, Arthur Joiner, Albert Joiner, Emmett Joiner, Grady Joiner, Minnie Lee Foster, Hazel Gouch and Nancy Chavers. She came from a large family consisting of 88 brothers, sisters, in laws, nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her two sons, Anthony (Pam) Kimmons of Brookheaven, MS and Von Kimmons of Davisville; one brother, Hoyt (Polly) Joiner of Bristol, FL; one sister, Ola Cavens of Millington, TN; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many other kids in the community that knew her as “Granny”.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 8, 2012, at the Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Jim O’Brien officiating.

Burial was at Dry Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ben Kimmons, Eli Kimmons, Reuben Kimmons, Levon Kimmons, Brandon Sharpless and Aaron Sharpless.

Louise Roy

September 6, 2012

Our beloved mother Louise Roy passed away on August 31, 2012. She was born September 12, 1934, to George and Thelma Coleman. She was a devoted wife to Claude Roy for 54 years and an outstanding mother to her four children, Claudette, Jerry, Judy and Dennis. She was a loving “Granny” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and also a caring sister to her five siblings.

A memorial to celebrate her life will be held on September 7, 2012 at Faith Chapel North in Cantonment, FL. at 6:30 p.m.. A gathering of friends will be held after the memorial service.

She will be missed dearly.
