Carolyn Harrell, 67, of Atmore, formerly of Pensacola, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, March 5, 2013.

She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Robert Harrell; children, Dorthy (Howard) West of Red Level, Kathryn (Chris) Byrd of Atmore, and Charles J. Carr, Jr. of Mesa, AZ; grandchildren, Sabrina (Adam) Cobb of Evergreen, Jonathan Wise of Atmore, Douglas West of Red Level, Lauren Carr, Chelsea Carr, and Cooper Ramos all of Pensacola, Justin Byrd of Atmore and Sami Carr of Clinton Township, MI; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South.

Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2013, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South with Pastor Chad Griggs officiating.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Wise, Douglas West, Shawn Carr, Brandon Carr, Cooper Ramos and Steve Grant.

Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Byrd and Aidan West.

Clyde Vincent Barbarow

Mr. Clyde Vincent Barbarow, 72, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, in Perdido.

Mr. Barbarow was a native of Bay Minette and a resident of Perdido for most of his life. He was a very loving husband and brother; he was a good son and loved his mother very much. His parents, William and Maude Barbarow; brother, Gene F. Barbarow and stepdaughter, Tammy Carpenter precede him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Barbarow of Perdido; two sons, David V. Barbarow and C. Daniel Barbarow, both of Oregon; three stepsons, Malcolm (Cheryl) Harrelson of Perdido, Michael (Shauna) Harrelson of  Bratt and Robert (Betty) Flowers of Rabun; two stepdaughters, Debra Boatwright of Perdido and Susan (Ronnie) Paul of Perdido; one brother, Wayne (Sheryl) Barbarow of Perdido; and five sisters, Dorothy (Tommy) Abrams of Canoe, Patricia Novak of Tucson, AZ, Shirley Albritton of Atmore, Helen Tillery of Perdido and Diane (Stan) Marshall of Huxford.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 8, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Malcolm Harrelson officiating.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 7, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Charlie Huelsbeck

March 5, 2013

Charlie Huelsbeck of Cantonment, went to his eternal rest Saturday, March 2, 2013. Charlie was best known for the decades that he operated the service station at the corner of Muscogee Road and Highway 29 with his father, Mr. Pete Huelsbeck.

Charlie spent his last days surrounded by the loving family who survive him, his wife, Teresa Peak Huelsbeck; in-laws, Legic and Mary Parker; daughters, Katie Huelsbeck and husband Peter Wong, Jenny Huelsbeck Hicks and husband Brad; and stepsons, Chris and Cody Burkett. Before his passing Charlie also had the great joy of spending his days at home with his grandchildren, JP and Lila Claire Wong.

Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Pete and Jeanette Huelsbeck and his brother, Larry Wayne Huelsbeck. He will be buried with them in the family cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. with funeral services to follow at 11 a.m. at Faith Chapel North on Wednesday, March 6, 2013. Casual attire is encouraged. Burial will follow at the Huelsbeck/St. Jude Thaddeus Cemetery in Cantonment.

Pallbearers will be Cleveland Swift, Robbie Dubus, Billy Burt, Jerry Lovett, Brandon Eckhoff, and Scott Coyle.

The family wishes to thank Covenant Hospice, Dr. Samer Al-Shurieki and all the caregivers of West Florida Hospital who cared so tenderly for Charlie during his battle with cancer.

Tommy Hiram McDonald

Tommy Hiram McDonald, age 84, of Molino, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, March 3, 2013. He was born August 20, 1928, in Muscogee, FL. He was employed by St. Regis Paper Company where he served as plant superintendent. Mr. McDonald was a successful businessman, owning several local businesses, including McDonald Oil Company, McDonald Farmers Supply, and McDonald Tire Center. He was the livestock officer for the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department for several years and a member of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Posse.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of nearly 64 years, Vermel McDonald; son, Gary McDonald, Sr. of Molino; daughter, Felicia Shields and husband, Jeremy of Starks, LA; daughter, Karen Ward and husband, Steve of Molino; five grandchildren, Rhesa Robinson, Gary McDonald, Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA, Hannah Shields and Tamara Shields of Starks, LA, and Emily Ward of Molino; three great-grandchildren, Haley Robinson, Haden Robinson, and Gavin McDonald of Baton Rouge, LA.

He loved God, his family, and his church, Atmore Apostolic Church, which he faithfully attended. Mr. McDonald enjoyed his horses, cattle, and farm. He never met a stranger and found the good in everyone. He was a practical joker and loved to make people laugh. He was a hardworking, loving, generous man that will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 6, 2013, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Faith Chapel North.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 7, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at Calvary Apostolic Tabernacle, in Molino with Pastor Steve Ward and Rev. Jeremy Shields officiating. Interment will follow at United Pentecostal Church Cemetery in Molino.

Active pallbearers will be Tim Neihman, Louie Kemp, Raymond Stokes, Kenny Albritton, Gary McDonald, Jr., and Ben Robinson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Pittman, Gene Ward, & Hunter Richardson.

Betty Annette Flowers Merrill Norris

March 5, 2013

Betty Annette Flowers Merrill Norris, 74, of Atmore, passed away March 1, 2013, at her residence. She was born in Atmore to the late Gay and Grace Elizabeth White Flowers. After graduating as a valedictorian of her class at Escambia County High School, she attended the Sacred Heart School of Nursing. It was in Pensacola that she met and married her first husband, a Navy pilot. They had two children together. After several years of living the Navy life and living in various places in the U.S. and overseas (including Hawaii and Japan), she returned to Atmore in 1972. She worked for many years as a nurse for Dr. C. P. St. Amant and later at the Atmore Health Department.

She is preceded in death by her parents; second husband, Bobby Norris; brother, Charles Winston Flowers and sister, Joyce Flowers Nall.

She is survived by her daughter, Vonna Merrill Read of Collierville, TN; son, John Michael Merrill of Rio Rancho, NM; sister, Evelyn McKinley Pipkin and husband Jim; brother, Clayton Flowers and wife, Janice, all of Atmore; grandchildren, Ethan Merrill Read, Jordan Lynn Merrill, Grace Marie Read and Carrie Marie Merrill.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at the Atmore First Assembly of God with Rev. Don Davis officiating. Burial was in Mothershed Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Chuck Flowers, Randy Mckinley, Jimmy Flowers, Scotty Flowers, Corey Flowers, and Hunter McKinley.

Edna R. C. Cotton

Edna R. C. Cotton, age 91, of Chumuckla, FL passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013.

Mrs. Cotton was born in Chumuckla, FL to the late Herbert and Julia (Scott) Campbell. She was a member of the Chumuckla Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Ruthard Cotton; 3 brothers; and 3 sisters.

“She circled her life around her family.”

Mrs. Cotton is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Mable) Cotton, Rita Gillman, Janice (Ernest) Jernigan, Ronnie (Twyla) Cotton, Gail (Billy) Golden and Greg (Susan) Cotton; 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren with one on the way; 6 great-great children; a special sister in law and best friend, Ann Cotton.

Pallbearers will be: Paul Gillman, Jeff and Jeremy Cotton, Tristan Ellison, Jonathan Johnson, Chase Lastinger, Bailey Ellison and Jarrett Rudy.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: All of her granddaughters, Ann Cotton, Winona Griswold, Anita Caraway, Niki Slay, Paula Sue Campbell, Ronnie Gyse, Katrina Finney, Chasity Reid, Vicki Whitfield and Donna Lee.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Chumuckla Community Church (Elizabeth Chapel United Methodist Church) with Rev. Frederick Barrow, officiating. Burial will follow in the Elizabeth Chapel Community Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at the Lewis Funeral Home Pace Chapel.

Dewey James Bondurant, Sr.

March 2, 2013

Mr. Dewey James Bondurant, Sr., age 87 of Flomaton,  passed away on February 28, 2013, in a Florala, AL, health care facility.

Mr. Bondurant, Sr. was a native of Flomaton and returned in 1952 coming from Round Lake, FL. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served in WWII where he was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. During his working years, he was self-employed in the forest industry and owner of D.J. Bondurant Lumber Company, Inc. He was a Christian and attended the Flomaton First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

Mr. Bondurant, Sr. is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Ola Bell Bondurant.

He is survived by his sons, Dewey (Irene) Bondurant, Jr. of Flomaton, John (Teresa) Bondurant of Flomaton, Mark (Melody) Bondurant of Flomaton, Maxi (Tammi) Bondurant of Cantonment, Farris (Becky) Bondurant of Milton, and Dee (Michelle) Bondurant of Valdosta, GA; brother, Alfred Bondurant of Panama Canal; sisters, Juanita Howell of Pensacola Willean Sales of Monroeville, Jewel Dean of Flomaton, Dawn Printy of Pensacola; 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Flomaton First Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until a noon service time with Dr. Jerry Keese, Rev. Dustin Stockstill and Rev. Earl Lee officiating.

Interment will follow in Flomaton Cemetery, Flomaton.

Pallbearers will be Jim Bondurant, Dietrich Bondurant, Jason Bondurant, Chandler Bondurant, Adam Bondurant and Hunter Bondurant.

Myrtie Vickery

March 2, 2013

Myrtie Vickery, 81 of Cantonment, passed away on February 27, 2013.

She was preceded in death by her parents Wilson and Minnie Chason of Altha, FL, and a brother Howard Chason of Marianna, FL.

Myrtie is survived by her daughter Freida Harris of Cantonment and a son Jerald (Susan) Vickery of Bogia; granddaughters, Nikki Kight and Chelsea Vickery of Cantonment; great-grandchildren Heather Harris, Courtney Boyett and Willow Jade Fleming all of Cantonment; great-great grandchildren Elijah Bianchi, Leighana Meadows and Chason Reilly Harris all of Cantonment; brothers Lawrence Chason of Marianna and Aubrey Chason of Altha; sisters Ruby (Marlin) Flanders of Altha, Ruth (Robert) Wood of Altha, Doris (George dec.) Bates of Altha, Irene (Larry) Sessions of Hortense, GA, Rachel (Troy) Collins of Crawfordville, FL, Juanita (Aaron) Mathis of Altha, Jean (Larry) Hilson of Headland, AL; many nieces and nephews; the descendants of Charlie and Lizzie Vickery. All were much loved by Myrtie and she was much loved.

Visitation will be on Monday, March 4, 2013, from 1-2 p.m. at Cottage Hill Baptist Church with the funeral to start at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens.

Leo Henry “Bud” Lank

March 2, 2013

Leo Henry “Bud” Lank, 85, of Molino left us early Saturday, February 16, 2013, at West Florida Hospital. He was born in Detroit, MI, on October 24, 1927, to Leo and Eva Lank and grew up in Media, PA.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 52 years, Mary Logan Lank, and many beloved friends. Left to cherish his memory are his brothers, Richard Lank of Media, PA, Robert Lank of Houma, LA, daughters, Sydney Sulpizio (Anthony) of Secane, PA and Debra Hodges of Pensacola;  grandchildren Anthony Sulpizo (Mackenzie) of Secane, PA, Alicia Schubert (Jim) of Glenolden, PA, Blake Hodges (Christina) of Pensacola; and several great-grandchildren.

Leo, or “Bud” as he was known to those who loved him, proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 aboard the destroyer, U.S.S. Furse of which he was a plank-owner. Following his military service he began his career with the Chemstrand Corporation in research and development, which later became Monsanto. He was employed there from 1947 until his retirement in the early 90’s Following his retirement, he pursued his love of traveling including touring the country extensively. He could also be found playing a round of golf with his friends at Solutia Golf course. He also enjoyed tending to his home and property and visiting his neighbors in the Molino and surrounding community. One of the highlights of his life was attending the Veteran’s Memorial in 2011. He returned to Florida with a renewed since of patriotism.

The Family of Bud Lank would like to acknowledge Jeanette Barkley for her love, companionship and memories. You meant so much to him. The family would also like to thank his friends in the Molino community for all their help through the years and to Betty Hale, a part of our family since day one.

Services will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery on Friday, March 8th, 2013 at 1:15 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held following the service at 2191 Chance Road, Molino.

Curtis R. Simmons

Curtis R. Simmons, age 81 of Pensacola and formerly of Jay,  went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 28, 2013.

He was a staff sergeant in the United States Air Force and loved what he did. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Curtis loved fishing, camping, spending time with his grandchildren, and working in his garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Katie Mae Simmons; brothers, Howard, Clyde, and Earl Ray Simmons and his sisters, Addie Morris and Elsie Diamond.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Debra Simmons; children, Curtis II, Heather, Crystal, Robbie, Randy, Tony, Janice, Debbie, Terry, and Glenda; 23 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Annie Lou Carle; brothers, Doug and Cecil Simmons and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 12-1 pm at Jay Funeral Home on Saturday, March 2, 2013. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm with Brother Earle Greene officiating services.

Burial will follow at Cora Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Curtis Simmons II, Jon McArthur, Tony Simmons II, Tony Brown, Richard Diamond, and Tony Simmons. Honorary pallbearer will be Jonathon Hicks.
