Billy Lassiter

Billy Lassiter, 65, of Atmore, passed away Monday, March 11, 2013, in Pensacola. He was retired as a pipe inspector. He was born in Evergreen, on March 27, 1947, to the late Willie J. and Mazie Thompson Lassiter. He was a United States Army Veteran.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Faye Lassiter and one brother, Robert Holley.

He is survived by two sons, Shawn Lassiter (Hope) and Shannon Lassiter, both of Atmore; special sister-in-law, Judy Smith of Atmore; three brothers, Larry Lassiter, Michael Lassiter and Steve Thompson, all of Atmore; and two sisters, Sheila Dalton of Pittsburg, PA, Linda Griggers of Atmore; and four grandchildren, Natalie Lassiter, Sydnie Lassiter, Ragan Lassiter and Paige Lassiter.

Services will be Thursday, March 14, 2013, at 10 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill cemetery with military honors.

Active pallbearers will be Brandon Carlton, Blake Lassiter, Dean Fournier, Randall Ward, Toby Quimby and Brandon Smith.

Family will receive friends Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Jamie Shane Hall

March 11, 2013

Jamie Shane Hall, 43, of Oak Grove, passed away March 10, 2013, in Atmore.

He was born December 18, 1969, in Atmore. He was a 1987 graduate of Ernest Ward High School and a 1993 graduate of Auburn University. He worked for Larson-McGowan Forest Managers and Consultants. He was a registered Black Angus cattle farmer. He was currently working for Resource Management Services, LLC at the Pace office. He attended Grace Fellowship Church in Atmore. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Horace Angus and Gladys Myrtle Hall and Curtis Leroy and Lola Beatrice Byrd.

He is survived by his wife, Blaire Hall and children, Tucker Graham Hall and Colbie Capri “Jamie” Hall, all of Oak Grove; parents, Jan Hall of Atmore and James Earl “Bud” (Anita) Hall of Oak Grove; mother-in-law, Carol Hopkins; brother, Rusty (Traci) Hall of Augusta, GA and his nieces and nephews, Maddox, Noah, Brody, Hudson and Lillyanne.

Jamie served on the following local and state organizations: honorary member of Northview High School FFA where he served as advisor for cattle programs and the interview committee for Chapter Officers; Escambia County Farm Bureau Board of Directors; Young Farmer & Rancher Leadership Training program; Florida Farm Bureau Forestry Advisory Committee; Chairman of Escambia County Extension Office; FSA Advisory Council; Wedgeworth Leadership Institute – Class V; Florida and Alabama Cattlemen’s Association; Government Affairs Committee and a member of the Florida Forestry Association, honored in 40 under 40 Florida Forestry Association leadership group, and was actively involved in 4-H.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 15, 2013, at 10 a.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gene King and Rev. Charles Melvin officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Brian Davis, Jeff Hester, Lynn Ralls, Glynn Ralls, Matt Ezekiel and Paul Byrd.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 14, 2013, from 6 p.m .until 8 p.m from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Northview FFA Alumni & Friends, 4100 W. Hwy 4, Century, FL 32535. Donations will be used to establish a scholarship in Jamie’s honor.

Branden Penegar

March 11, 2013

Branden Penegar, born May 6, 1992, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013. A 2011 graduate of Tate, he was an assistant coach for the freshman Aggies’ football program and varsity tennis team. He was know to his players as the “Gentle Giant”. Penegar was a member of the Tate High School Student Hall of Fame.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Chapel North at 1000 South Highway 29 in Cantonment. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 14 at Gonzalez Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Cottage Hill Baptist Cemetery at 230 Williams Ditch Road in Cantonment.

William Earl (Noggie) Johnson, age 72 of Cantonment, passed away on March 7, 2013.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Doris Johnson, Sons Keith Johnson, Kerry Johnson of New York, Cedrick Johnson, Garrick (Melanie) Brown of Pensacola  and daughters Valerie Johnson, Vera (Isaac) Mitchell, Lynette Johnson all of New York and Cassandra (Jimmie) Abernathy of Jensen Beach, FL, and Angela (Micheal) Richardson of Port St. Lucy; FL; brothers, Richard Johnson of Cantonment , Jimmie (Huong) Johnson of Pensacola, Willie (Sheila) Franklin of Riverdale, GA; sisters Evelyn Sapp and Juanita Grandison of Pensacola  and Gloria (Joseph ) Kendrick of Knoxville, TN; ,mother-inlaw, Louise Hartley of Century and four aunts and several grandchildren/greatgrands and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Will Stewart “Bill” Chapman, Jr., age 84 of Atmore, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, in Atmore. He was a he was born November 15, 1928, in Birmingham  and grew up in Jackson, AL. He was a graduate of Jackson High School then later moved to Atmore  in 1968.

Bill was the president and manager of Chapman Ace Hardware, Inc. for 30 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, PCA. Atmore. He loved the outdoors and many sports, hunting, fishing, golfing and archery.

He is preceded in death by his parents Dr. Will Stewart and Mary Bird Chapman, Sr.; sister Mary Chapman (John) Granade and his in-laws Marilyn Noble (Roy) Jensen and brother-in-law James Lowder.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years. Nancy Noble Chapman; children Will C. (Janice) Chapman, Bess Chapman (Richard) Maxwell, Gretchen Chapman (Steve) Odham and Rebecca Chapman (James) Williamson; grandchildren Will Stewart (Maya) Chapman, III, Mary Frances Chapman (Brett) Wood, Mallory Maxwell (Brad) Downey, Chapman Richard (Katie) Maxwell, Hannah Stephens, Bess Tyler, Jamie Williamson (Jack) Hazelrig, Ann Williamson (Kory) Doyle; great grandchildren Charlee Chapman, Mary Virginia Wood, Abigail Wood, Leslie Downey, Harrison Downey, Warner Maxwell, Douglas Maxwell and Caroline Doyle; sisters-in-law Shirley Noble Lowder, Margie Noble Reid;  brothers in law Frank J. He was loved dearly by his wife and children and they will greatly miss his wonderful sense of humor and loving kindness.

Perlene Z. Simmons

Perlene Z. Simmons, 81, of Molino passed away Friday, March 8, 2013.

Mrs. Simmons, a native of Evergreen, AL, resided in the Pensacola area for 59 years. She was a member of the Church of Christ at Milestone and was retired from Monsanto with 38 years of service.

Preceding Mrs. Simmons in death are her parents, Claude and Cloie Zellers, brother, Ervin Zellers, niece, Annette Hawsey, and brother-in-law, David Hawsey.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Joseph Simmons; sister, Willie Dean Hawsey; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March12, 2013, from 12:30 p.m. till the service time of 2:30 p.m. at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home with Ken Burleson officiating.

Burial will be in Pensacola Memorial Gardens.

Murley Daniel ‘Bubba’ Renfroe

Mr. Murley Daniel ‘Bubba’ Renfroe, age 60, of Flomaton, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2013, at his home.

Mr. Renfroe was a native of Brewton, but was a lifetime resident of Flomaton and was of the Baptist faith. During his working years, Mr. Renfroe worked for L&N Railroad that was later known as CSX. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Daniel and Katie Ruth Knowles Renfroe.

He is survived by his daughters, Becky (Darrell) Lambeth of Atmore and Rachael Meadows of Milton; sisters, Diana (Wayne) Stanton of Atmore and Teresa (Danny) White of Flomaton; grandchildren, Olivia Lambeth, Noah Meadows and Ava Meadows; nieces, Jennifer (Kevin) Lincoln, Caitlin White, Haley White, Lindsey White and great niece, Baleigh Lincoln.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 11, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doug Hogg and Rev. Patricia Bruner officiating.

Interment will follow in Flomaton Cemetery, Flomaton, AL.

John Dalton Holland, Jr.

John Dalton Holland, Jr., age 52, a resident of Milton, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2013. He was born in Milton on July 27, 1960.

He is survived by his father, John D Holland Sr. (Nonie); mother Diane “Dee” Chavez (Adrian); children, Craig, Brent, and Sean; sisters, Geri Hoomes (Scott), Julie Almeida (Brad); brother Floyd Holland (Bonnie); uncle, Edsel Holland (Polly); nephew, Nicholas Almeida; and niece, Savannah Almeida.

Visitation for the immediate family will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013, from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 12 p.m., March 9, 2013 at Jay Funeral Home with Pastor Chad Diamond of My Father’s Vineyard. Burial will follow at Walling Road Cemetery.

Pallbearers are family members and friends, Floyd Holland, Nicholas Almeida, Scott Hoomes, Craig Kendezerski, Ricky Sharp, and Brad Hatfield.

Curtis Oneal Lindsey

March 7, 2013

Curtis Oneal Lindsey, 80, of Flomaton, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at a Pensacola hospital.

He was a native of Florala, and a longtime resident of the Flomaton community. He was retired from International Paper Mill after more than 40 years of service in the power house as an operator. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; four brothers and five sisters.

He is survived by his sister, Edith Pauline Morley of San Antonio, Texas; his brother, James C. (Dallas) Lindsey of Ocean Springs, Miss. and special friends, Cameron (Debra) Andrews of Jay.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home with Elder Richard Ash officiating.
