Curtis Kennedy, Jr.

Mr. Curtis Kennedy, Jr., age 65, of Flomaton, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at his home.

Mr. Kennedy was a native and lifetime resident of Flomaton where he was a self-employed carpenter. He was of the Holiness faith and attended the First Apostolic Church. Mr. Kennedy is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Lucille Driskell Kennedy and sister, Nancy Darby.

He is survived by his sons, Timothy (Jennifer) Wilson of Flomaton, Casey (Paula) Kennedy of Brewton, Brian (Lena) Kennedy of Spanish Fort, Curtis (Tina) Kennedy of Pensacola, Alex Kennedy of Flomaton; his daughter, Myrtis ‘Dee’ Kennedy of Jay; 11 grandchildren and a special friend, Mavis Kisner of Flomaton.

A memorial service will be held for Mr. Kennedy at a later date.

Reverend Robert H. Porter, Jr.

May 20, 2013

Brother Porter finished his fight and entered into glory on Friday, May 17, 2013, from his home in Dogwood Park in Molino. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Henry Porter, Sr. and Margaret Mitchem Porter;  his sister, Myrtle Young and a very dear daughter-in-law, Brenda Porter.

He is survived by his faithful and loving wife of 67 years, Daisy Marie Seals Porter; four sons, Bobby (Earlene) Porter, Bert Porter, Ben (Donna) Porter, and Bernard Porter; two daughters, Betty (Larry) Houck, and Bonnie (Ron) Carnley; one sister, Essie Willis;  and also left to cherish his memory are his 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly.

Brother Porter was founder and former pastor of the Farm Hill Holiness Church for 43 years. His ministry touched the lives of thousands. His faithful and loving congregation will miss Brother Porter. The Porter family wishes to express appreciation to the Farm Hill congregation for their love and support during our father’s declining health.

The family also wishes to express a special thank you to a special family friend, Susie Conners, for her faithful service to the Porter family. Also, a very special thank you to Regency Hospice nurse, Lynette Spanganberg, for her compassionate care of dad during these last six months.

Funeral services will be held at Farm Hill Holiness Church on Madrid Road in Cantonment on Tuesday, May 21 at 10 a.m., with Pastor Donice Bowman and Pastor Clyde Hughes officiating. Brother Porter will lie in state in the church sanctuary prior to service.

Burial services will follow at Morgan Cemetery located on Highway 29 north of Molino.

Pallbearers will be Craig Kast, Brian Porter, Dayton Porter, Dillon Vardeman, Stanley Carnley and Roger Emmons.

Honorary pallbearers are all members of the Farm Hill Holiness Church.

Rex A. Walker

May 20, 2013

Mr. Rex A. Walker, 52 of Atmore, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013, in Pensacola. He was born in Ozark, AL on October 1, 1960, to the late Elvin Richmond and Willie Dean Brown Walker. He was a carpenter most of his life. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Johnny Walker and sister, Willie Pearl Reeves.

He is survived by his wife, Angel Pugh of Atmore; two daughters, Miranda Walker of Montgomery, AL and Betty Nichole Walker of Gordon, AL; two sons, Aaron Morris and Edward Powell both of Atmore; brothers, Wayne Walker, William Walker, Sr. and Gerald Walker all of Ozark, AL; and his grandchildren, Alyssa-Ann, Alexis, Jeremyah and “Dubby”.

A Memorial Service will be handled by the family at a later date.

Julius Fred Thompson

Julius Fred Thompson, age 82, of Cantonment, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at his residence. He was born February 26, 1931, in Fulton, AL, to the late Tom Watson Thompson and Lonis Bradford Thompson.

Mr. Thompson was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean Conflict. He retired from Monsanto after 33 years of service. He enjoyed making wooden canes. He loved his relationship with God, having served in Missions Education, Pulpit Supply, Usher and Sunday School Teacher all his adult life. Mr. Thompson even taught, while being ill, from his hospital bed from his residence, last Sunday his lesson on “Repentance” being his last lesson to teach here on Earth. He was well known for living a Christian life and being a true example of holiness and long service to his church, First Church of the Nazarene in Pensacola where he was a member.

Survivors include his high school sweet heart who became his wife 63 years ago, Dorothy “Dot” Thompson; his son, Terry Michael (Pam) Thompson of Houston, TX; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Glass of Thomasville, AL; and his dear, faithful friends, Dennis Wilson and Randy Knepper.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 17, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home with Brother Ken McCloskey officiating.

Interment will follow in Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens with Larry Wood, Steve Howard, Hollis Hobbs, John Stein, Neal Armstrong, Danny Yates, John Mason and Chris Beck serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service hour.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Church of the Nazarene, 3475 Pine Forest Road, Cantonment, FL, 32533 for a memorial fund in honor of Julius Thompson.

Francis Everett “Frank” O’Connor

Francis Everett “Frank” O’Connor, 74, of Pensacola, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2013.

Mr. O’Connor was born in Bay Minette and resided in Pensacola area for many years. He was retired from St. Regis Paper Mill and was a volunteer at the Cantonment Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. O’Connor is preceded in death by his parents, Esther Olson O’Connor and Vincent David O’Connor; sister, Christine Steadham; and brother, Phillip O’Connor.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Rachael Peacock O’Connor; daughters, Kim Drawdy (Walter) of Dublin, GA and Traci Lewis (Jeff) of Pensacola; granddaughter, Jennifer Brown (Kevin) of Dublin, GA; great-granddaughter, Piper Woosley of Dublin, GA; great-grandson, Brennan Brown of Dublin, GA; brothers, Harry O’Connor (Ada) of Cantonment and Alfred O’Connor (Juanita) of Molino; sisters, Ruth Granat of Cantonment and Alfreda Nellums of Robertsdale.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.

Nola Ann “Baker” Sutton

Mrs. Nola Ann “Baker” Sutton, 75, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, in Canoe.

Mrs. Sutton was a native of Canoe and resided at Canoe for most of her life. Mrs. Sutton was a very humble lady, who carried on the legacy of Bakers Service Station and Store at Canoe which was started by Rosa Nell Baker, her mother, in the early 1960’s. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Rosa Nell Baker; one sister, Janell Bachlor; and one daughter, Jackie Chavers.

She is survived by her three sons, Timothy (Kim) Chavers of Birmingham, Greg (Barbara) Chavers of Colleyville, TX and Tony (Bishop) Chavers of Birmingham; one daughter, Tracy Chavers Sells of Canoe; one sister, Judy Barnes of McDavid; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 17, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Grindle officiating.

Burial will follow at the Canoe Freewill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, May 17, 2013, from 1:00 p.m. until funeral time at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Henry Malvin Adams, Sr.

Mr. Henry Malvin Adams Sr., 76, of Flomaton, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at a Pensacola medical facility.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Flomaton, where he worked as a tool pusher for Delta Drilling Company.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry James and Janie Carter Adams; daughter, Vanessa Adams; son, Herbert Randall Adams; and two sisters, Joyce McCall and Janice Stice.

He is survived by his wife, Bertie Cross Adams of Flomaton; sons, Henry Malvin (Barbara) Adams, Jr. of Pollard and Wendall Ervin (Rita) Adams of Flomaton; daughters, Adona (Gary) Lacy of Jay and Kathy (Bill) Avent of Pace; brothers, James Adams of Pollard, H.J. Adams of Brewton, Carl Adams of Mobile, and Dalton Adams of Salt Lake City, UT; sister, Fay Drake of Mobile; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 17, 2013 at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James Howard Henry officiating.

Pallbearers will be Wilton Thompson, Trent Adams, Brent Adams, Caleb Adams, Randy Adams and Michael Adams.

Burial will follow in Pollard Cemetery.

Frances Lillian (Dewberry) Acree

On May 14, 2013, Frances Lillian (Dewberry) Acree became absence from her body and present with the Lord. She was 94 years old and a charter member of Berrydale Baptist Church. She loved her children, and her children called her blessed. We will miss her every day until we meet again in our heavenly home.

She was born on December 13,1918, to James Fletcher Dewberry and Lillar Ryals Dewberry.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Benjamin Ruston Acree; three sons, Benjamin Rushton Acree Jr., Larry Ewin Acree, and Robert Earl Acree; five brothers and one sister. She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Marie (Hugh) Turman, Betty Charles (Patrick) Burleson, Nelda Gail (Tony) Cozart; her sons, James Juston (Jackie) Acree, Roger Dale (Peggy) Acree; and a daughter-in-law Mary Ann Acree; 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to say a special thanks to the nurses of Jay Hospital for their care and kindness to our mother and her children. Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Berrydale Baptist Church at 10 a.m.. with Brother Robert Gandy officiating services. Byron Stuckey

Mr. Byron Stuckey, 81, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, in Byrneville.

Mr. Stuckey was a native and a resident of Byrneville for most of his life. Mr. Stuckey was a veteran of the Korean War and retired from Campbell Sand and Gravel. Mr. Stuckey attended the Byrneville United Methodist Church. His parents, William Aubrey and Nancy Stuckey, five sisters and lifelong companion, Merle Spettel precede him in death.

Survivors include his two sons, William Walter (Grace Marie) Stuckey of Atmore and Richard Byron (Lorraine) Stuckey of Atmore; three daughters, Vanessa Dale Powell of Century, Amanthio Michelle (James) Merchant of Brewton and Clarise Stuckey of Atmore; one brother, Orrie (Betty) Stuckey of Byrneville; two sisters, Esta Jones of Byrneville and Viola Stapleton of Theodore; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 17, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. William Stuckey and Bro. Richard Stuckey officiating.

Burial will follow at the Byrneville Cemetery.

Mr. Henry James Price, 53, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in Atmore. Mr. Price was a native and lifelong resident of Atmore. Mr. Price was an employee of Masland Carpets for 35 years. His father, H.C. Price and stepfather, Nick Ramer precede him in death.

Survivors include his mother, Eva McGhee Ramer of Tuscaloosa; wife of 32 years, Esther Price of Poarch; two sons, Derek Steven Price and Trey Stephon Price both of Poarch; one sister, Linda Nevin of Tuscaloosa; and two grandchildren, Ladon Price and Alex Price.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel with Rev. William “Bubba” Rolin officiating.

Burial will follow at the New Home Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, May 17, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
