Candace Janice Moyers

Candace Janice Moyers, 39, passed away May 23, 2013. She was born in Texas on April 29, 1974, and moved to Pensacola in her childhood years. She was a member of Plainview Baptist church. Candace attended Tate High School and was working her nursing degree at Bevill State College in Jasper, AL. She was a dedicated wife and mother, and brought joy to all that she met.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Moyers; daughter, Elise Monie; sons, Patrick Monie, Mathew Monie, Johnathan Moyers, and Cody Moyers; father, Milton Criswell; mother, Sharon Criswell; brothers, Brice Criswell and Rob Pittman; sisters, Karen Smith and Sunday Flowers; and grandchild, Benjamin Moyers.

Memorial service was held at Highland Baptist Church in Molino Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at 2:30 p.m.

Pallbearers include Brandon Bridges, Spencer Dowling, Keith Jackson, Chad Pitman, Chuck McCurdy, Ron Whitfield and Michael Smith.

Sandra Leah McGee

Mrs. Sandra Leah McGee, age 54, of Flomaton, passed away May 28, 2013, at her home.

Mrs. McGee was a native of Chicago, IL and a resident of Flomaton for the past 19 years coming from Gueydan, LA. She received her nursing degree as a LPN at South Louisiana and had worked toward her RN degree at Jefferson Davis Community College. Mrs. McGee had worked as the Activities Director at Century Care Center. She was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by her father, Wallace Roller.

Mrs. McGee is survived by her mother, Beverly Brown of Milton; her husband of 19 years, Mike McGee of Flomaton; son, Jessie Lee (Tasha) Benoit of Gueydan, LA; daughters, Angela (Kirk) Boehm of Lafayette, LA, Anadee McGee and Mary G. Parfait, both of Houma, LA; brothers, Michael McCall of Patterson, LA and Patrick of Allentown; sisters, Susan Parrish of Chattanooga, TN, Terri Sessions of Milton, and Jennifer Robley of Patterson, LA; and nine grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joe Lee officiating.

Aubrey Gladden Amos

Mr. Aubrey Gladden Amos, 76, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013, in Atmore, AL.  Mr. Amos was a native of Atmore and a resident of Atmore for most of his life. Mr. Amos was a retired employee of Kimberly-Clark with 25 years of service. He attended the First Baptist Church of Atmore. His wife, Shirley Amos and parents, F.F. and Lucille Amos, precede him in death.

Survivors include his two sons, David & Susan Amos of Atmore and Neal Amos of West Palm Beach, FL; one daughter, Brenda & David Moss of West Palm Beach, FL; one brother, Arnold Amos of Atmore; one sister, Ann & Ray Bell of Atmore; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Sunday, June 2, 2013, at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Atmore with Rev. Arnold Hendrix officiating.

Burial will follow at the Serenity Garden Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 2, 2013, from 2 p.m. until funeral time at the First Baptist Church of Atmore.

Pallbearers will be Mike Hanks, Shawn Amos, Brandon Amos, Kelby Amos, Jon Jury and Zach Stewart.

Glynn Clayton Key, Jr.

May 28, 2013

Glynn Clayton Key, Jr., was born in Henley, Hays County, Texas on May 10, 1928. Mr. Key died Memorial Day, May 27, 2013, in Spanish Fort, Alabama. He was formerly a resident of Escambia County, Florida, raising Angus and farming there for over 40years. He was the son of Glynn Claiborne Key and Mary Rhoda Mansola. He attended Dripping Springs, Texas schools, and after attending Tarlton Junior College, joined the military. He served three years in the 82nd Airborne Division of the Army and was a staff sergeant.

After the Korean War, he went to Texas A&M and earned a Bachelor of Arts. After receiving a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Education from the University of Florida, he completed a year with the USDA’s citrus division. After he moved to Walnut Hill he began teaching agriculture at Ernest Ward High School where he taught for 27 years helping young people and FFA students to develop a love for farming through his leadership. Mr. Key added to the area’s genetic investment in animal husbandry as a member of registered Black Angus organizations like the American Angus Association. He raised registered Yorkshire and Hampshire hogs and bred and raised border collie dogs. He was active in the Ruritan Club of Walnut Hill for 31 years and was involved with and held offices in the Walnut Hill Water Board and the Escambia County Soil and Water Board. His dedicated work with the Escambia County Storm Water Committee resulted in the naming of the Glynn Key Storm Watershed Park, a wetlands preservation and education site in Pensacola.

Mr. Key established numerous scholarships and education funds for students, mainly in agriculture, and was a leader and teacher in the Canoe Church of Christ for over 30 years and was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.

Mr. Key was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Ann Cile Hall Key. He is survived by a brother, Billie Wayne Key of Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Key will be Thursday, May 30, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel in Atmore, Alabama, with a graveside service afterwards, both officiated by Rick Whittle, minister of the Spanish Fort Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Hall Family Cemetery in Canoe, AL.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 30, 2013, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Mattie (Bush) Reid

May 27, 2013

Mattie (Bush) Reid, 74, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2013, at her home in Century surrounded by her family. She was born on March 27, 1939, in Flomaton to Rural and Perry Lee (Heaton) Bush.

Mattie married the late Rev. Wallace Reid in 1968 in Century, they were happily married for 40 years. Mattie was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church in Clio, AL; however, she actively attended Gospel Light Temple in Century.

Mattie was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Wallace Reid; her parents Rural and Perry Lee Bush; two sisters, Caroline Virginia Bush and Mamie Rowland; two brothers Eugene Bush and Jim Bush; one son, Rickey Pritchett, Sr.; and one grandson, Christopher Bell.

Mattie is survived by her children, Claudia (PeeWee) Richard Turberville II of Semmesm, Joy (Daryl) Simpson of Century, Joe (Myra) Reid of Century, Elaine Purvis of Pensacola, Margaret Jackson of Century, Tammy (Aaron) Hodge of Cantonment, Joy (John) Guessford of Gulf Breeze, Robin Salter of Flomaton, Lonnie Purvis of Flomaton, Amanda (James) Merritt of Blue Springs, AL; Glen (Tammy) Reid of Bluff Springs; two sisters, Fannie Wright of Century and Bert (Joe) Huss of Jay; 30 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.

Mattie was an ordained minister. She enjoyed singing, writing songs, sewing, and traveling. Possessing a true servant’s heart, Mattie faithfully cared for family and friends through delicious cooking and baking from scratch including cake decorating. She had a passion for the elderly. She enjoyed many years advocating for seniors at the Escambia County Council on Aging. She helped seniors live healthy, safe and independent lives. One of her proudest accomplishments was successfully advocating for the senior citizen center built in the industrial park. She was an alumni of the organization Volunteers in Service to America.

Commemorative services will be held at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home in Atmore. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, from 6 p.m until 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May, 2013, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at the Byrneville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Randy Stewart

Mr. Randy Stewart, 48, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2013, in Fairhope. Mr. Stewart was a native and lifelong resident of Perdido. Mr. Stewart was an employee with the City of Bay Minette. His mother, Merle Levine “Sis” Stewart, precedes him in death.

Survivors include his father, Woodrow Stewart of Perdido; one son, Allan Stewart of Perdido; one daughter, Kala Stewart of Perdido and two sisters, Belinda Elizabeth (Wayne) Fails of Brewton, and Gina Stewart (Jesse) Reynolds of Ft. Benning, GA.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel with Sis. Helen Stewart, Rev. Wayne Fails and Rev. Jesse Reynolds officiating.

Burial will follow at the Dean Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Danny Ray Taylor, Larry Peacock, Rev. Tony Floyd, Sammie Thomley, Kenny Hayles and Rev. Wendell Hadley.

Dorothy Elaine White

Mrs. Dorothy Elaine White, 81, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013 in Atmore.

Mrs. White was a native and life long resident of Perdido. Mrs. White attended the Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church. Her parents, Leon and Eva Coleman and husband, George H. White (Hamp), precede her in death.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Mike Eady, Joseph Leon Eady, Monica Buckhault, Audie Coleman, Tammy Burns and Ronnie Coleman all of Perdido; one brother, Leon Coleman, Jr. of Perdido; and one sister, Juanita Edmondson of Perdido.

Funeral services will be Monday, May 27, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Bubba Rolin officiating.

Burial will follow at the Pine Grove Freewill Cemetery.

Aaron “Bill” Rackard, Sr.

Mr. Aaron “Bill” Rackard, Sr., 93, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, in Atmore, Alabama.

Mrs. Rackard was a native of Huxford and a resident of Atmore for most of his life. Mr. Rackard was a Veteran of WWII, was in the U.S. Navy and Boiler Makers Union. He is preceded in death by a wife, Annie Rackard, two sons, Aaron Rackard, Jr. and Jackie Rackard, one daughter, Billie Jo “Bit” Moorehauser, parents and a brother.

Survivors include Wife, Betty Rackard of Atmore; one son, Robert “Bobby” Rackard of Cape Coral, FL; two stepsons, William Jerry Wiggins, Jr of Bay Minette and Israel Dewayne Wiggins of Atmore; four daughters, Jill Abrams of Pennsylvania, JoAnn Welch of Shamong, NJ, Gail Reburton of Shamong, NJ, and Johnni Ruth Chapine of Shamong, NJ; two stepdaughters, Tammy Smith of Bratt and Sharon Stewart of Mobile ; two sisters, Lois Amos of Poarch and Wynice McGhee of Poarch; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. James Baker officiating.

Pallbearers will be Jason Rackard, Larry Flurnoy, David Gehman, Garris Sells, Joe Frank McGhee and Jerry Hawkins.

Burial will follow at the Poplar Springs Cemetery.

Albert “Papa Ceta” Jackson

Mr. Albert “Papa Ceta” Jackson, 109, of Atmore (Freemanville community) died Thursday, May 16, 2013, at his residence.

He was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Freemanville and served his country as a member of the Buffalo Soldiers. At the time of his death, he was one of the oldest residents in Atmore and Escambia County, Ala. and was an avid drinker of Dr. Pepper. He had recently been awarded a year’s supply of Dr. Pepper by the Pepsi-Cola Company in Atmore. His most noted scripture was the Fifth Commandment (Exodus 20:12), “Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.”

Four brothers, Nathaniel Jackson, Richard Jackson, Joseph Jackson and Willie Jackson; and four sisters, Lucy Rabb, Alberta Thomas, Annie Louise Johnson and Lizzie Mae Thomas preceded him in death.

Those left to cherish the legacy of Mr. Jackson are nine devoted nieces and nephews, Obie Lewis Johnson and Elois Johnson both of Atmore, Annie M. Wesley of Atlanta, Jahaser (Leroy) Sass of Moncks Corner, SC, Ella F. Brown of Riegelwood, NC, Georgia M. (Preston) Jones of Clearwater, FL, Eric (Johnnie M.) Johnson of Vista, CA, Gideon G. Johnson of Monroeville and Connie Linda (Nathaniel) Royal of Warner Robbins, GA; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Freemanville with the Rev. Robert Davis, pastor, officiating. Retirement of his remains with military honors will be in the Pierce/Rabb Cemetery in Freemanville. Public viewing will be held from 2:00 until 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013, at the funeral home and a family hour will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church with Turner Funeral Chapel, LLC directing

Jesseca Miller Williams

Jesseca Miller Williams passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, after a lengthy illness. Jesseca was born on July 22, 1985, in Pensacola.

A loving mother, daughter, sister and friend, Jesseca loved to go to the beach or the river and spend time with her friends and family. Jesseca also enjoyed shopping and spending time with her children.

Jesseca captivated the hearts of everyone around her.

Jesseca is survived by her parents Ronny Miller (Becky), and Sherry Chance (Ray); her children, Destanyann Miller, Noah Williams, and Cole Harris; her stepchildren, Cameron Dansalan and Adrian Dansalan; her soulmate Santee Dansalan; her sisters, Desere Downing and Crystal Holliday (Bobby); step-siblings, Faith Williams, Hope Livingston, and Brian Williams; nieces and nephews, Crystalyn Daly, Dathan Church, and Dakota Downing.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at 12:30 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with funeral services immediately following at 1:30 p.m.

A graveside service will then follow at Highland Baptist Church Cemetery in Molino.
