Hilrey “Don” Entrekin

Mr. Hilrey “Don” Entrekin, 84, passed away on Sunday, Novmeber 3, 2013, in Mobile.
Mr. Entrekin was a native of Century and had resided in Brewton since 1994. Mr. Entrekin was a member of Norris Masonic Lodge #301, Scottish Rite and Shriners Abba Temple in Mobile. His parents, Joel & Lena Entrekin; brothers, Vernon Entrekin and Aubrey Entrekin; and sister, Ethel McElvoy precede him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Lillie Entrekin of Brewton; one son, James V. Entrekin of West Carrolton, OH; three daughters, Nicole Santoro of Greenfield, OH, Donna (George) Ferenczi of Trotwood, OH and Patricia Santoro of Tucson, AZ; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Rusty Burnham officiating.
Burial was at the Serenity Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers were James Entrekin, Charles Proctor, Justin Proctor, Lloyd Proctor, Nathan Gillis and Bernie Raines.
Honorary Pallbearers were the Masons.

David E. Dean

Mr. David E. Dean, Jr. 88, of Lottie, Alabama, passed away November 4, 2013, in Bay Minette. He was born June 21, 1925, to the late David E. Sr. and Willie Jones Dean. He served in the United States Navy in the Atlantic during WWII and later in the Pacific. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW Post 7016. He was a farmer for many years. He served his community and his church. He worked for Production Credit and was chairman of the Baldwin County Soil and Water Supervisors for 20 years. He was a board member of Southern Pine Electric, Baldwin County Farm Bureau, Perdido Alumni and a member of Lottie United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the board of Trustees and was finance chairman for many years. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Frank Dean, Herbert Dean, Albert Dean, Ruby Hayles, Myrtle Shiver and Claude Dean.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marjorie Taylor Dean; three daughters, Cheryl Dean (Burk) McWilliams of Arley, AL, Karen Dean (Stephen) Caldwell and Susan Dean (Jim) McCracken, both of Lottie; seven grandchildren, Jason, Vaughn, Rachael, Josh, Thomas, Jim and Jennifer; and 12 great-grandchildren and numerous family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 8, 2013, at 11 a.m. from the Lottie United Methodist Church with Dr. Doug Williams and Rev. David Edwards officiating.
Burial will follow in Lottie New Home Cemetery with VFW honors.
Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Hayles, Claude Dean, Bill Sigler, Wayne Dean, Wendell Dean and Jack Weatherford.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Darden, Jason Caldwell, Vaughn McWilliams, Josh Caldwell, Thomas McWilliams and Jim McCraken.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 8, 2013, from 10 a.m until service time at 11 a.m. at the Lottie United Methodist Church.
Contributions can be made to the Lottie New Home Cemetery Fund.

Emma Ruth Wasden Cannon

Emma Ruth Cannon, 88, of Jay, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2013, at Jay Hospital.
Emma Ruth was born in Brewton to J.M. and Josie Wasden, and grew up in the Jay area. She overcame an early childhood illness and never allowed that to handicap her. She graduated from Jay High School and received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Troy State Teacher’s College. She began her teaching career in Santa Rosa county and retired in 1976, after a stellar career of 27 years teaching first and third grades. During her career, she held various offices in the teachers’ organizations and was named Santa Rosa County Teacher of The Year in 1974. She was also proud of her membership in Delta Kappa Gamma. After her retirement, she and her husband, Bud, spent much time traveling the country, visiting many states in their motor home. They also enjoyed spending time at their camp on Blackwater River fishing, boating, and entertaining family and friends. Emma Ruth was an active member of the Jay First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed many hobbies including crocheting, quilting, knitting, painting, reading, and flower gardening. She especially loved her roses, which she generously shared. But she never forgot her first love-that of her students. She took great pride in remembering their names as well as those of their families.
She is predeceased by her husband, Grady Clyde “Bud” Cannon, to whom she was married for 48 years. She is also predeceased by her parents, her sister, Drusilla Campbell and her brother, Randolph Wasden.
She is survived by her son, Grady Herbert “Herb” Cannon and his wife, Helen; three grandchildren, Jonathon (Kelley) Cannon of Arlington, VA, Jennifer Angeron of Milton, and Joel Cannon of Atlanta; two precious great-grandchildren, Reese Angeron and Isla Jane Cannon; sisters, Bobbie Whitley of Pace and Mary Alice (Bobby) McHenry of Jay; and brother, Mack (Mary) Wasden of Jay and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend thanks to her special caregivers, Bernice Barlow, Polly Harrison, Kim Acker, and Christine Fowler. They would also like to express their gratitude to Dr. David Smith, Dr. Bascom Raney, Dr. Jeff Kelley, and the nurses and staff at Jay Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2013, at Jay First United Methodist Church with Rev. Laura Weant officiating.
Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Mahlon and Gary Campbell, Terry and Johnny Wasden, Beau and Steven McHenry, Bill Wasden and Barney Whitley.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at Jay First United Methodist Church. Donald Alvin Respress

Mr. Donald Alvin Respress, 57 of Atmore, passed away November 3, 2013, in Mobile. He was born June 12, 1956, in Atmore to the late Amon and Evon Dannelley Respress. He was a farmer most of his life and is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Thomas A. Respress and Tony Respress.
He is survived by his sons, Douglas Respress, David (Julie) Respress and Adam Respress all of Atmore; one brother, Michael (Joyce) Respress of McCullough and three sisters Jean (Jerry) Mason of Atmore, Janice (Larry) Kyser of Pensacola and Susan (Frank) Maguire of Atmore; and grandchildren Taylor, Preston, Kayleigh, Kaitlynn, Kristina, Sean and Addison.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, November 7, 2013, at 2 p.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mike Grindle officiating. Burial will follow in McCullough Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 7, 2013 from 1 PM until service time at 2 PM from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Mr. Michael Devon Odom, age 36 of Flomaton, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2013, at Baptist Hospital.
Mr. Odom was a native of Atmore and a resident of Century before coming to Flomaton. During his working years, he worked for Grey Wolf Drilling as a drilling rig roughneck. He was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by his parents, Richard and Sharon Odom of Century; wife, Rhonda Odom of Flomaton; son, Drew Odom of Flomaton; step-daughter, Kendall McDonald of Flomaton; brother, Jesse Odom of Century; grandparents, James and Barbara Wilson of Century; mother-in-law and father-in-law, James and Sharon Pate of Flomaton.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with speaker Ronnie Fore officiating.
Interment will follow in Byrneville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Eugen P. “Pete” Godfrey, Jr.

Mr. Eugene P. “Pete” Godfrey, Jr., age 90 of Brewton, passed away Friday, November 1, 2013, in a Bay Minette hospital.
Mr. Godfrey was born in Cochran, GA and had been a resident of the Brewton area since 1979, coming from Warner Robins, GA. He served with the Merchant Marines during World War II, and was a retired civil servant. While living in Warner Robins, he served with the Fire and Rescue Squad. After moving to Brewton, he helped organize the McCall Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Shady Grove Holiness Church. Mr. Godfrey was preceded in death by a son, David Godfrey and a grandson, Jacob Long.
He is survived by his wife of over 24 years, Mrs. Mary Nell Godfrey of Brewton; a daughter, Tracy G. (Dale) Long of Pensacola; step-sons, Christopher Lee (Janet) Byrd of Brewton, James and R. Byrd of Pensacola; step-daughter, Gwen (Buddy) O’Bannon of Brewton; grandchildren, Melissa Godfrey, Jason Godfrey, Brianna Long; step-grandchildren, Joey (Sharmon) O’Bannon, Carrie (Matt) Lambeth, Brandon Byrd, Christopher Byrd; and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 3, 2013, from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Turner and Speaker Charles Jackson officiating.
Interment was in Beulah Cemetery.

Mr. Hadley served in the United States Marines.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter, Freddy and Johnny Hadley.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Helen Hadley; his children, Marjorie (Mark), Mike (Kim), and Jeff (Melita), Marcella Wayne, Bruce (Tina) Chavers, Marianne (Don) Larson and Bobby Chavers; his siblings, Doug (Louise), Wayne (Rosie), James Edward (Toni), Lena (David) Sprinkle, Betty Pelky, Elizabeth (Buddy) Wilson, Lorraine Paul, Cheryl Jordan, Deryl (Debbie) and Rubin (Pam); numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday, November 4, 2013, at 12:oo p.m. at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home with Dr. Dale Patterson officiating.
Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Stapleton, AL.
Pallbearers will be Rubin Hadley, Deryl Hadley, Gary Hadley, Michael Hadley, Shane Rollo and James Edward Hadley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Hadley, Wayne Hadley, Mike Hadley and Jeff Hadley.

Glendon Marvin Jernigan

Glendon Marvin Jernigan, 88, left this world to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, November 1, 2013, at Covenant Hospice in Pensacola. Glen was born on September 20, 1925, to Marvin and Maggie (Golden) Jernigan in Jay. He was the older of two children.
Glen served in the United States Navy from 1943-1945. He met his loving bride of 65 years, Louise Woods Jernigan in Pensacola and they were married on January 10, 1948, in Brewton.
In 1955, with Louise by his side, Glen began building a successful business in the retail gasoline industry, building and operating dozens of locations in Northwest Florida and Southern Alabama. Glen loved dealing with people and through the years helped many others to start and operate their own businesses. In his spare time, he loved fishing, farming and enjoyed buying, raising and selling cattle. Glen was a lifelong philanthropist, donating to several organizations dear to his heart.
Glen is survived by his wife, Louise; daughters, Cindy (Dirk) Lundquist and Cathy (Bobby) Payne; grandchildren, Layla (Wes) Lundquist Smith, Brandon (Crystal) Payne and Megan (Drew) Payne Ard; great-grandchildren, Atakelt and Evangeline Smith; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Raye Davis Bruckelmeyer.
The family will greet friends from 5 p.m until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at Faith Chapel North.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at Faith Chapel North at 10 a.m. with Pastor Jeff McKee officiating.
Burial will follow at Bayview Cemetery.

Mr. Jimmy Wayne Brown, age 63, of Log Cabin Lane in Brewton, passed away Saturday evening November 2, 2013, at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Brown was a native and life-long resident of Brewton, and was a retired carpenter and painter in the home building industry. He was of the non-demoninational faith.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Leila Lindsey Brown of Brewton; three sons, Caanan Brown of Jay, Seth (Katie) Brown of Cantonment, and Adam (Beth) Brown of Pensacola; two daughters, Leslie (Jason) Crawford and Christy (Bobby) Powell all of Brewton; one brother, Glenn Edward Brown of New Orleans; four sisters, Barbara (Bill) Hall, Bea Worthington, Glenda (Danny) Fleming, and Connie (Clifford) King, all of Brewton; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and special nephew, Chris Fleming of Brewton.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jepp Edward Brown.
Graveside funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at 11 a.m at Union Cemetery with loved ones speaking at the service.
Interment will be in Union Cemetery.
There will be no visitation for Mr. Brown.

Glenda Lane Webb
November 3, 2013
Glenda Lane Webb, 88, of Pine Forest Community passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013, in Covenant Hospice at West Florida Hospital.
She was the wife of Dr. John B. Webb. She is survived by her husband of 70 years; her sister, Pat Alter of Maine; special brother-in-law and sister-in-law Adrian and Edith Webb of Pensacola; her children, Linda Smith (Rodney) of Wagarville, AL, Diane Jones (Rhett) of Mims, FL, the Rev. Mr. John Webb (Trena) of Pace, Judy Ring of Crestview, Gordon Webb (Jeannette) of Cantonment, Mark Webb (Bernadette) of Pensacola, and Jane Webb of Pensacola. She is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Glenda was predeceased by her parents, James and Mary Lane; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Lillie Webb; her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Frances and Paul Weller; a grandson John Brian Webb; great-grandsons Jack and Owen Slinkard; and son-in-law David N. Ring.
Glenda Webb was a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker. She spent many active years in volunteer work at Pine Forest United Methodist Church as a choir member, Sunday School teacher, Worship Committee Chairperson, Hospitality Chairperson, Youth Counselor, and Preschool Director. In addition, she spent as much time in her garden as she could, chasing weeds from every corner of her world. She loved getting into the dirt and growing any flower, vegetable, or fruit. Glenda was an avid cook, artist, reader, and traveler. Her interests were diverse and she loved learning. As her health began to fail her, she took up a new hobby, bird watching. Her back yard became an aviary, and she could identify the different birds as they flew in and out of the trees.
Glenda was an enthusiastic baseball fan. She and Johnny had season tickets to the Pensacola Pelican games and could be found in the stands at every home game. They became loyal fans of the Blue Wahoos when the new team came to town and Glenda could name every player and followed them faithfully.
She loved greatly and was greatly loved. She will be greatly missed.
Glenda’s memorial service was held Saturday, November 2, 2013, at Pine Forest United Methodist Church on Wilde Lake Blvd.
The family is accepting floral condolences or, if preferred, contributions may be made to Glenda’s favorite charity in her memory, St. Joseph’s Indian School, PO Box 326 Chamberlain, SD 57326.
