George Anthony Tremer

Mr. George Anthony Tremer, born May 2, 1929, in Mobile, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alphonse J. Tremer, Sr. and Susan A. Murray Tremer and his loving wife of 58 years, Jeanne Jacobson Tremer.
He is survived by his son, Christopher A. Tremer (Donna Rene’e); his daughter, Alicia Tremer Poston (David L.); five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Dianne Tremer Jacobson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
George attended St. Vincent and was a graduate of McGill Institute, both in Mobile. He was a Boy Scout leader and assistant football coach at Sacred Heart Catholic School. Mr. Tremer retired from the United States Air Force. He was a past member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and an active member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Molino. He started the Catholic Prison Ministry in Century and remained a volunteer for 12 years. He was a long standing member of Knights of Columbus and a member of American Legion. He retired as a wholesale hardware salesman. He is pain free and at peace with the Lord.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catholic Charities or Wounded Warriors Foundation in Mr.Tremer’s memory.
Rosary will be held on Monday, July 15, 2013, at 4:45 p.m. and then visitation until 7 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church at 10 a.m.
Interment will follow at St. Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery.

Royce (Roy) Fredrick Jennings, Jr.

Royce (Roy) Fredrick Jennings, Jr., 57, of Pensacola died peacefully at home Saturday, July 13, 2013, with his loving wife and sister by his side.
In his years at the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Roy served as hostage negotiator, field training officer, motor officer, traffic officer, authored the Domestic Violence Policies and Procedures, represented Crime Stoppers, Honor Guard, co-host for Gulf Coast Crime Stoppers, and drummer for Southern Heat, (Sheriff’s Office Community Outreach Band).
Roy had a deep rooted belief in justice and challenged everyone to always make good choices. His strong influence allowed no excuses for failing to weigh the difference between right and wrong.
He had a great appreciation for life and lived every day to the fullest. His example encouraged others to live out their own dreams without excuses. In his last days, God drew him closer and his passion for God’s great love was shared with all. As his relationship with God grew, his role as spiritual leader became his highest priority.
Royce was preceded in death by his parents, Royce Fredrick Sr. and Anne RoseMarie Jennings.
He is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Kimberly Ann Jennings; sons, Kyle (Amanda) Emmons; TJ (Shannon) Ritchey; Tyler (Michelle) Ritchey; and Kevin Emmons; grandchildren, Kaylee, Addison, Laila, Alaina, Kinsey, CJ, Riley, and Matthew; sister, Barbara Jennings-Miner and husband, William Miner; nephews and nieces, David William (Katie) Dunn, Jr.; Roy E. (Kimberly) Dunn; great nephews and nieces, Joseph, Jannea, Faith, Noah, Abram, Grace and Little David; and father and mother-in-law, W.D. and Barbara Hawthorne.
Pallbearers will be David Dunn, Roy Dunn, Brian Munhollun, Danny Cook, Jeremy Garrett, and Chris Novak.
Honorary pallbearers will be Noah Dunn and Abram Dunn.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 19, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.

Jack Titus Crutchfield

Mr. Jack Titus Crutchfield, age 81 of Flomaton, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Century Care Center after an extended illness.
Mr. Crutchfield was a native and former resident of Repton, AL before moving to the Flomaton area 60 years ago. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War. During his working years, he worked as a carpenter building homes. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and attended the Lambeth Holiness Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Frances Hale Crutchfield and daughter, Rhonelda Crutchfield.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Bertha Knowles Crutchfield of Flomaton; son, Randall Keith Crutchfield of Pensacola; daughters, Judy (Mike) Boutwell and Anita (Earl) Bradley, both of Flomaton; sister, Pollie Glass of Robertsdale; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. with Bro. Philip Deane and Bro. Andy Boutwell officiating.
Interment will be in Pleasant Home Holiness Church Cemetery in Flomaton.
Pallbearers will be Michael Boutwell, Douglas Boutwell, Shon Haveard, Luke Mitchell, Anthony Glass and Dusty Boutwell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rich Berry, Kenny Hale, Gam Graves, Ed Rowell, Howard Ard, Samuel Lansdon and G.W. Birdsong.

Lewis Peters

Lewis Peters, also known as Blondie, was welcomed by his Savior on July 10, 2013. He was born in Wicksburg, AL and was a longtime resident of Gonzalez.
Blondie was a loving husband and friend to Allie for 58 years. He was a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, friend and a faithful servant of the Lord.
Lewis served in the Air Force in the Korean Conflict. He worked in the bag plant for St. Regis Paper Company for 26 years and was a member of Plainview Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mama, papa, and 11 brothers and sisters.
Lewis is survived by his loving wife, Allie Peters, daughter, Jan Hodson; granddaughter, Dawn Schwartz; great granddaughter, Amanda Schwartz; niece, Susan, and nephews,
Bobby and Taylor Trawick Fleming.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with funeral service at noon at Faith Chapel Funeral Home on Saturday, July 13, 2013. Burial will be at Damascus Cemetery in Brewton at 2 p.m.
He was salt and light to all that he met. He will be missed.

Theda Cheryl Bray

Theda Cheryl Bray,age 54, of Allentown passed away on July 11, 2013, after an extended illness. She was surrounded by friends and family as she went to be with the Lord.
Cheryl was born in Brewton to J.D. and Theda Bray. She was raised in Jay along with her siblings Debbie and Stewart. She graduated from Jay High School in 1976. Cheryl played saxophone in the Jay High School Band and was a member of the color guard. She enjoyed sports and lettered in volleyball. After graduation she attended Troy State University and played in the ‘Sound of the South’ under the direction of Dr. Johnny Long. In the summer of 1977 she was selected as a member of the American Music Ambassadors and toured Europe promoting music and goodwill on behalf of the United States. She later moved to Tallahassee and attended Florida State University. In 1980 she returned to Jay and attended Pensacola Junior College Police Academy. She began her career as a Corrections Officer with the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office and attended PJC Corrections Academy. She was promoted to Deputy Sheriff in 1982 and later became an investigator responsible for working Crimes against Children and Sex Crimes. Cheryl returned to the Patrol Division where she worked her way up the ladder. She was a member and supervisor of the first patrol K-9 unit and enjoyed working with K-9 Wesson. In 2010 she retired from the SRSO as a District Lieutenant after serving 28+ years.
Cheryl’s was a diehard DIY-er and an avid woodworker. She read constantly and believed you should learn something new every day. She liked to work in the yard and in her home on numerous projects. She dearly loved her children (pets) Holly, Max and Katie. Cheryl was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Jay. She also was instrumental in the creation of ‘Christmas in Allentown’ where each year the public is invited to view over 300,000 Christmas lights.
Cheryl is predeceased by her father, J.D. (Mayor) Bray, her paternal grandparents, H.H. and Alice Bray, her maternal grandparents, Burie and Lucy Warrick. She is survived by her mother Theda W. Bray of Jay, her sister Debbie (Michael) Gilley of Vienna, Austria, her brother Stewart Bray of Jacksonville, Fl. nephew, S.J. Bray and niece, Meghan (Bug) Gilley. She is also survived by her extended family Paulette Allen (best friend), Walker Allen, Glenn (Esther) Allen, Sheila Ware, Burt (Chellie) Allen and their children, her godchildren, Christina, Ryan, Cody, Ashley, Brittany, Garrett, Amber and one great God child Neveah.
Visitation will be held at the Lewis Funeral Home in Milton on Sunday, July 14, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services and OES service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, at the Jay First Baptist Church with Pastor Danny Carnley officiating. Burial will be at the Jay Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Capt. Jim Spencer, (Ret.) Lt. Steve Barnes, (Ret.) Lt. Chuck Sloan, Lt. Joe McCurdy, (Ret.) Sgt. Ed Johnson, and Sgt. John Thompson.
Honorary pallbearers will be past and present deputies, correction officers and staff of the Santa Rose Sheriff’s Office.

Darrell Steege

Darrell Steege, 51, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born April 21, 1962, in Atmore, he was the son of Oleda Steege and the late Teddy Steege.
On June 27, 1992, he married the love of his life and soul mate, Evelyn Steege. The two shared a blessed union of 21 years together.
Darrell was a member of Mountain View Mennonite Church. As a church member, he had previously been active in supporting the youth and teaching Sunday school. Darrell was employed by Stuarts Draft High School, where he taught agriculture. Before teaching at Stuarts Draft, he had the opportunity to teach many area children at Northview High School in Bratt, along with Wilson, Buffalo Gap, and Chatham schools. His love for the outdoors, hunting and fishing particularly, led him to be active in Young Farmer, Shenandoah Valley Bass, Fishers of Men and FFA-Alumni. Always giving of his time, Darrell never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need. Darrell will be remembered by those who knew him as a cherished husband, beloved father and brother, and special friend who had a wonderful sense of humor.
In addition to his loving wife, survivors include his two daughters, Nicole and Alexandra Steege; granddaughter, Kaelyn Steege; siblings, Arlene Mack and husband, Phil, Gerald Steege and wife, Sudie, and Rene Bunch; as well as many close friends.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, at Mountain View Mennonite Church, with Pastor Earl Monroe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be James Wenger, Dick Taylor, Zane Taylor, Barry Gray, Matt Haskins, Doug Ramsey and Papa Joe Arbaugh. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Steege, Paul Grekos, Rick Shiflet and Joe Roberson.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2013, at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 1870 Stuarts Draft Highway.

Bernice Barfield

Bernice Barfield, age 85, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013, at the Homestead Village in Pensacola.
Mrs. Barfield was a life long resident of Bratt and longtime member of Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Murdick; her sisters,Agnes Peacock and Ernestine Hayes; brothers Verl Pickern, Boots Pickern, Ellyn Rigby and Buddy Rigby.
She is survived by her son Don (Lillian) Barfield of Pensacola; her daughter Diane (Wayne) Baker of Bratt; one sister Tiny Bolton; two brothers Roy Rigby and Dallas Rigby; four grandchildren Miranda Brooks, Scott Baker, Stephanie Lamar, and Jessica Barfield; six great-grandchildren Tyler Brooks, Tanner Brooks, Taylor Baker, Jack Lamar, Kelton Wooten and Brandy Wooten; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 15 at 10 a.m. at Faith Chapel North with Reverend Gene Pickern officiating. Interment will follow in the Godwin Cemetery in Bratt.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until service time.
Serving, as pallbearers will be Scott Baker, Malcolm Peacock, Terry Bolton, David Brown, Perry Brewton and Kelton Wooten.

Mr. Julian Blake Lamb, 75, passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2013 in Pensacola.
Mr. Lamb was a native of Molino and a resident of Pensacola. Mr. Lamb attended the Highland Baptist Church.
He is survived by three brothers, Chase Lamb of Seale, AL, Phillip Lamb of Bay Minette, AL and Larry Meacham of Molino; and one sister, Willie B. Lamb Halbert of Black Mountain, NC.
Graveside services will be Sunday, July 14, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at the Highland Cemetery in Molino with the Bro. Tim Adams officiating.
Visitation will be held Sunday, July 14, 2013, from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home in Atmore.
Mildred ‘Murray’ Mooney

Mrs. Mildred “Murray” Mooney, 81, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, in Cantonment.
Mrs. Mooney was a native of Century and a former resident of Bratt and has resided in Cantonment, for the past two years. Her sister, Willie Mae Childress, preceded Mrs. Mooney in death.
Survivors include her son, Ricky (Alice) Mooney of Frisco City, AL; two daughters, Linda Gail (Reggie) Morgan of Bay Minette, AL, and Betty Ann Dickman of Cantonment,; one brother, Rupard Murray of Bluff Springs; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 12, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Willis officiating.
Burial will follow at the Little Escambia Cemetery.

Mr. Joe Cox, Jr., 61, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, in Perdido, Alabama.
Mr. Cox was a native of Fairhope, former resident of Bay Minette and has resided in Perdido for the past 27 years.
He is survived by his mother, Doris Dornquast of Perdido; wife, Patricia Cox of Perdido; four sons, Jeremy R. (Trisha) Cox of Perdido, Hubert (Jennifer) Parker of Spanish Fort, Dale (Kristie) Parker of Camden, AL, and Leon Parker of Bay Minette; two Daughters, Jodi (Dale) Robison of Perdido, and Cathy (Derek) Larkin of Perdido; one sister, Carolyn Wilson of Perdido and 14 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 12, 2013, at 3 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Harrison Steege officiating.
Burial will follow at the Perdido Baptist Cemetery.
