Curtis Melvin Howard, Sr.

Curtis Melvin Howard, Sr., went home to be with the Lord on August 9, 2013. Daddy was a loved man and will be missed.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Mavis E. Howard; five children, Karen Thall, Sharon Phillips (Dale), Curtis M. Howard, Jr. (Beth), Stephanie W. Hughes (Lonny), Joseph B. Howard (Trisha); 14 grandchildren, Jared, Aubrey, Matthew and Zachary Thall of Port St. Lucie; Kristen, Kayla, Kasey, Karmen, Jacob and Jesse Hughes of Pensacola; Kayla J, Aden Howard, Tristin and Leila Randolph of Robertsdale; one great-grandchild, Gabriella Thall of Port St. Lucie; five sisters, Joyce, Delores, Barbara Jean, Elaine, Marilyn; two brothers, Bobby and Earl and his little dog Jackson.

Daddy loved fishing with his sons and grandkids, family get togethers and cookouts. He loved Alabama Football (Roll Tide Daddy) and joking around a good camp fire.

We love you daddy and will see you again soon!

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in daddy’s name to Olive Baptist Church Financial Office, 1836 E. Olive Rd., Pensacola, FL 32514, for the Charis House Ministry and Most Excellent Way Jail Ministry.

Visitation will be Friday, August 16, 2013, from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. at Cross Faith Church located at 5107 Highway 29 in Molino with a memorial service following immediately.

Mary Nell Meitzler

August 14, 2013

Mary Nell Meitzler, 79 of Atmore, passed away Monday, August 12, 2013, at Century. She was retired as a seamstress for 33 years with Vanity Fair Mills. She was born in Monroe County, AL, on January 9, 1935, to the late Luther Bryant and Ollie Mae Hayles Stafford. She was a member of Atmore Church of God.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Meitzler.

Survivors include two sons, Larry (Pat) Meitzler of Walnut Hill and Ellis “Bubba”(Angie) Meitzler of Canoe; one sister, Jewell Mae Melvin of Atmore; two grandsons, Michael Meitzler and John Victor.

Services will be Thursday, August 15, 2013, at 11 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bryars officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Micheal D. Lee

August 14, 2013

Micheal D. Lee, formerly of Molino, passed away on August 6, 2013, in Tampa. He was a 2002 graduate of Tate High School.

Micheal is survived by his mother and step-father Shelia and Allen Griffin; sisters, Cheri and Tiffani Griffin, all of Pensacola; special grandmother, Gloria Sims, of Molino; father, Donnie (Sue) Lee of Biloxi; aunt, Sharon Ford of Jasper, GA; uncle, Joe Sims of Tallahassee and Larry Ford of Atlanta; and special uncle and aunt Darnell and Janay Sims of Gonzalez; cousins Branden Ford of New York City, Darnell Ford of Atlanta, Erica Sims and Jalisa Houston of Tallahassee; special cousins, Glenda and Lacheka Weaden, and Edward and Amber Wilson all of Pensacola; and godparents, Lewis and Velma Robinson of Pensacola.

Funeral services will be held August 15, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Mt Olive Missionary Baptist Church on North Davis Highway, with the Rev. Frank Jenkins officiating.

Internment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Pensacola.

Friends may visit from 12 p.m. until 12:45 p.m., August 15, 2013, at Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

Teddy Jay Kirkland

August 14, 2013

Teddy Jay Kirkland passed away on August5, 2013. Teddy was born February 20, 1954. He grew up with his family in Chumuckla.  He worked as a carpenter by trade for over 30 years. He worked at Monsanto until he tried to venture out start his own family business with his son, Jason Kirkland until Jason’s untimely death. He then returned to work at Solutia. He worked hard and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Teddy was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ruth Gavin; father, Edgar Paul; and his son, Jason Kirkland.

He is survived by his mother, Helen Paul, two children, Matthew Kirkland and Kelley Cody; four grandchildren, Peyton Cody, Mason Cody, Jasyslon Kirkland, and James Kirkland; two brothers, Johnny Kirkland and Darryl Paul; and sister, Sheila Morris.

Viewing to be held on Friday, August 16, at 5 p.m. with services to follow at 6 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home.

Jerry Franklin Fields, Sr.

August 14, 2013

Jerry Franklin Fields, Sr., age 75, of the Cobbtown Community passed away August 12, 2013, at Jay Hospital. He was born to Jessie and Ira Fields on November 20, 1937, in Crestview. He was a member of the Cobbtown Holiness Church and loved serving the Lord. He served in the US Army and later went into construction.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jessie Fields; mother, Ira Fields; brother, William L. Fields and brother-in-law, Bill Morgan.

He is survived by his sons, Jerry Jr. (Jennifer) Fields, Randy (Tracy) Fields and John (Carrie) Fields; brother, Jackie (Anita) Fields; sisters, Katie (Larry) Glover, Jessie Mae Stone, and Beth Morgan; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and a very special friend, Ellen Pennington. He was a loving son, father, and brother and will be truly missed.

A visitation will be held at Jay Funeral Home on Saturday, August 17, 2013, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 3 p.m. with Rev. Jim Lassister officiating.

Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.

Cheyenne Taylor Glenn

Cheyenne Glenn, age 17, of Jay was taken away suddenly from results of an ATV accident on August 8, 2013. Cheyenne was a happy girl who always brightened up a room. She was full of love and very affectionate. She loved the outdoors, shopping, being with her family and all of the little ones she helped take care of like her nieces, nephews, and some that weren’t family, but she had spent so much time with them and treated them like they were her family. She was her mother’s glue and rock for their family.

At the age of 17, she still wanted mom to hold her and she did it every day. Cheyenne loved and lived the outdoors and was a country girl at heart taken away too soon.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Mike Germany; great-grandmother, Rita Hagesteded and uncle, Robby Ashcraft.

She is survived by her mom, Cynthia Forbes and stepfather, Tim Bauldree; father, Don Glenn Jr.; sisters, Nicole Forbes and Ashley Bauldree; grandparents, Mae Forbes, Ray J. Hammack, and Don and Laura Glenn; aunts, Amanda Kay Ashcraft and Heather Brown; uncle, Timmy Hammack; cousins, Felicia Ashcraft, Misti Ashcraft, Randall Ashcraft, and Blake and Dylan Brown; niece, Kayleigh Forbes; nephews, Jaden and Hunter Simmons and a special little girl Jadynn Dannelley who was in the accident with her.

Cheyenne will truly be missed by all that knew and loved her. The family would like to thank everyone for all their support, love, donations, food, calls, prayers, and everything else that they have shown my family during this difficult time and a special thank you to Crystal Ladner for being her rock during this time.

Willie Hilary Hicks

Willie Hilary Hicks, 79 of Daphne, AL, passed away Thursday August 8, 2013, in Foley. He was a heavy equipment operator with International Paper, born in Huxford, AL, on January 15, 1934, to the late Hilary and Vasnti Lomas Hicks. He attended the Jubilee Baptist Church in Daphne.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Flossie Hicks, a brother, Hubbard Hicks and a sister Alma Chason.

He is survived by two brothers, Charles (Jane) Hicks of Macon, GA, and Eugene (Arlie) Hicks of California, six stepchildren, and his nieces and nephews.

Services will be Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at 11 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Matthews officiating. Interment will follow in Huxford Baptist Church Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Ryan Chason, C.W. Burnette, Curtis Hicks, Kevin Chason, Blake Reed and Troy Reed,Jr.

Yvonne R. Wearren

Mrs. Yvonne R. Wearren, 78 of Atmore, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2013, at her residence. She was born February 14, 1935, to the late Alonzo “Tom” and Grace Shaw Rowell. She was a member of Robinsonville Baptist Church and retired from Vanity Fair.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Rudolph Wearren; one son, Randy (Holly) Wearren of Bay Minette; two daughters, Brenda (David) Smith and Shannon (Garrie) Singleton, both of Atmore; one brother, George Tommy Rowell of Chattanooga, TN; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at 11 a.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Phil Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow in Canoe Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 13, 2013, from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Oleda Allene (Wilson) Steege

August 9, 2013

Mrs. Oleda Allene (Wilson) Steege, 77, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2013, in Davisville.

Mrs. Steege was a native of Atmore and had resided in Davisville for the past 55 years. Mrs. Steege was a board member of Atmore Little League, florist at Atmore Garden Center for Cordie Powell for 18 years, member of Concerned Citizens of Atmore, Atmore Saddle Club, Alabama Women’s Bowling Association and a lifetime member of Order of the Eastern Stars in Davisville. She attended the Pine Barren Baptist Church in Davisville.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Irma Adelle (Miller) Wilson; husband, Simon Theodore “Teddy” Steege; son, Darrell Steege; brother, Clark Wilson; and grandson, Russell Mack.

Survivors include her son, Gerald Steege of Davisville; two daughters, Rene Steege Bunch and Arelene Steege Mack both of Atmore; one sister, Lauverne Dortch of Davisville; seven grandchildren, Wesley Mack, Daniel Mack, Ronnie Bunch, Nicole Steege, Alexandra Steege, Gerry Steege and Tabitha Roberson; five great-grandchildren, Braiden Bauder, Skyler Mack, Gavin Mack, Russell Mack and Kaelyn Steege.

Funeral services will be Sunday, August 11, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the children and grandchildren officiating.

Burial will follow at the Pine Barren Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 10, 2013, from 1 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

James “JV” Brooks

August 9, 2013

James “JV” Brooks, age 83, a native of Evergreen, AL, and longtime resident of Cantonment, passed away August 8, 2013. He retired from Champion Paper Company after 33 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He loved spending time at home with his family and also enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Earl Brooks; and two sisters, JoAnn Volovecky and Bobby Jean.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary; son, Tommy (Brenda) Jordan; daughter, Cindy (Mike) Burkette; many nieces, nephews, and many friends; grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael Jordan, Timothy Jordan and Justin Burkette; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2013, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North. Funeral services begin at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Larry McKeehan, Brother Glen Vaughn and Pastor Jeff McKee officiating. Interment will follow at Cottage Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
