Mr. William Randall “Randy” Rowell, 43, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, in The Colony, Texas.
Mr. Rowell was a native of Walnut Hill and had resided in The Colony, Texas for the past six years. Mr. Rowell is preceded in death by his father Mr. Curtis Rowell.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Barbara Dianne and Howard Monroe of Walnut Hill; wife, Angela Dortch Rowell of The Colony, Texas; one son, Randall Rowell of The Colony, Texas; four daughters, Sheridan Rowell and Kayleigh Rowell of The Colony, Texas, Ashley Rowell of Pace and Amanda Bell (Jay) of Norfolk, VA; one sister, Angela Powell of Atmore; and three grandchildren, James, Lucas and Naleigha.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Gladyn Mothershed and Rev. Paul LaSalle officiating.
Burial will follow at the Godwin Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday, July 29, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Floyd Wilson, Bobby Harrison, Johnny Burkett, Marcus Mathis, Cody Mathis, Ryan Reaves. Honorary pallbearer is Randy Martin.

Loyd Gerome Phillips

Loyd Gerome Phillips, 62 of the Berrydale community passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013, in Pensacola. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Bertie Phillips; his sisters, Katherine (Calvin) Davis, Louise Freels, Thelma (Howard) Phillips, infant sister; and his brother, Neal Phillips; his second wife, Barbara Phillips, as well as extended family.
Those that survived him are his children, Cherie, Wade and Leslie; three brothers, Cecil (Margaret) Phillips, Eugene Phillips , Joe Phillips; sister, Rochelle (Wayne) Brown; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Loyd was a life-long resident of Santa Rosa County and graduated from Jay High School. He worked as a auto mechanic for Gomillion Auto Parts in Jay, and then for the Florida Department of Transportation for many years taking early retirement to work in the logging business these past few years. Loyd enjoyed being in the woods hunting deer and turkeys.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 29, 2013, at Jay Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Thompson and Rev. Laura Weant officiating.
Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Pallbearers are Eugene Phillips, Rocky Phillips, Rodney Elliott, Donny George, John Branson, Jr. and David West.
Honorary pallbearers are Butch Wells, Gary Cabiness, Frank Rowell, Ben West, Carmen Ivie, Eddie Thompson and Jeff Thompson.

Bessie Johnson

Mrs. Bessie Johnson, age 67 of Flomaton, passed away Friday, July 26, 2013, in a Pensacola health care facility.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Belleville, Ala., and had been a resident of Flomaton for the past 33 years, coming from Evergreen. She was a homemaker and was a member of Friendship Free Will Baptist Church. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, Chester & Lillie Falkenberry; brothers, Glenn Falkenberry, Clinton Falkenberry, Leslie Falkenberry; and a sister, Mavis Brown.
She is survived by her husband, Mr. David W. Johnson of Flomaton; one daughter, Donna Hunter of Brewton; a step-son, Brian Johnson of Brewton; a step-daughter, Peggy Coleman of Brewton; four sisters, Hazel (Donnie) Waters of Owassa, Ala., Theresa (Robert) Ryland of Bermuda, Mary Etta (Edward) Hawsey of Evergreen; and Dorothy Salter of Pine Hill; two grandchildren, Josh (Jessica) Sutton, Crystal Hunter; two step-grandchildren, Tanner Coleman and Travis (Shaunna) Coleman; one step great-grandchild, McKenna Coleman; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with Rev. Rusty Burnham officiating.
Interment will follow in the Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery in Tunnel Springs, AL.
Visitation will be held at Craver’s Funeral Home on Monday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Mr. James J. Seelig, 29, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, in Johnstown, PA.
Mr. Seelig was a former resident of Leesville, LA. but had resided in Gulf Breeze for the past five years.
He is survived by his father, James Brown, of Louisiana; mother, Lisa Dywer, of Leesville, LA; wife, Felishia Seelig of Gulf Breeze; two sons, Kaleb James Seelig and Kaden Jude Seelig, both of Gulf Breeze; one daughter, Jadea Brooke Seelig, of Gulf Breeze; three brothers, Justin Brown and Jeffery Brown, both of Leesville, LA and James Brown, of Pheonix City, AL; three sisters, Patricia Hansford- Polk and Cassandra Dywer, both of Leesville, LA. and Sophelia Johnson, of Pheonix City, AL. .

Marie Phillips

Marie Phillips, age 69, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 24, 2013. She went peacefully surrounded by her family. She was born in McClellan, Florida on January 8, 1944. She was long time resident of the Berrydale-Jay community. She was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, wife, aunt and friend to all of those who knew her. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved going to church and attending church functions. She attended Ebenezer Church and was Pentecostal by faith.
She was preceded in death by her father, Grady Dixon; mother, Annie Cantline Dixon; brothers, David Dixon and Johnny Dixon; and her sister, Esther Hawkins.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna (David) Coffey of Dixonville, Florida; grandson, Matthew Cooley and a great-granddaughter, Jaeci Cooley both of Jay; step-granddaughter, Cara Coffey of Milton; two sisters, Eloise Butts of Brewton and Vera Barnhill of Pensacola; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Saturday, July 27, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 28, 2013, at 1 pm at Jay Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Thompson officiating services. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Church Cemetery in Berrydale.

Floyd enjoyed coaching baseball and football at the Milton City Park and P.A.R.A. in Pace.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary E. Scruggs.
Floyd is survived by his father, Floyd W. Scruggs, Sr.; sons, Zachary and Fisher; daughter, Ashton Wales; mother of his children, Kim Wales; brother, Dewey (Michelle) Scruggs; nieces and nephew, Leann, Lindsay, Wesley, and Taylor.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Lewis Funeral Home Pace Chapel with Rev. Allen Cotton officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. one hour prior to services.
Burial will follow in Strickland Cemetery.
C. Edward Stanford

C. Edward Stanford Sr, 88, of Pensacola died Friday, July 19, 2013 after a long illness.
He was preceded in death by his seven brothers and sisters.
Ed Stanford was born in Houston County, Alabama (Cottonwood). His family moved to Kinsey, Alabama at an early age. He was a veteran of World War II and was a graduate of the University of Alabama with a B.S. degree in Business Administration. In 1953 he moved his family to Pensacola to work in the personnel department of the new Chemstrand nylon plant. In 1961 he left Chemstrand to go into business for himself, eventually owning the Stanford Insurance Agency. He sold the business and retired in 1979. In 1984 he came out of retirement and was elected to the Escambia County School Board representing District 5 for which he served for 12 years.
Ed received a number of awards for service to his community including God in Government Award, Escambia Search and Rescue for his fund raising and Lifetime PTA award.
Ed was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church on Nine Mile Rd, Christian Business Men’s Committee, National Rifle Association, Escambia County School Board, NW Florida Blood Bank, Disabled American Veterans, American Security Council, Hadji Temple, Cantonment Rotary Club and Foundation of Excellence.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 25, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church on Nine Mile Road with the memorial service following at 11:30 a.m. Pastor Jim Locke will be officiating. Pallbearers are Nicholas Johnson, Terry Sligar, Jr., Jess Sligar, and Jeff Davis. Honorary pallbearers are Mel Gentry’s Life Group. Private interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery.

She is survived by her daughter and best friend, Debra Thompson Dawson; her son, Bruce (Sharon) Thompson; granddaughter, Tanya (Sam) Smith; grandsons, Michael Born and Blake Smith; great-granddaughters, Izzabella “Izzy”, Alexandra “Ally” and Gabriella “Ella” of Dallas, TX and Leila and Carlie “CJ” of Pensacola.
Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at 4:30 p.m. at Faith Chapel North followed by visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Cantonment on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. followed by interment at Barrancas National Cemetery.

James Stevens Elkins, Jr.

James Stevens Elkins, Jr., age 82, passed away Monday, July 22, 2013, after a brief illness. Jim was born in Fairfield, Alabama and was raised in Bessemer, Alabama. He moved to Atmore in 1956 where he lived until his death.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James S. and Marguerite E. Elkins; his beloved wife of 57 years, Mildred D. Elkins; and his brother Robert Eugene Elkins.
He is survived by his two sons, Mark J. Elkins of Atmore and Jerry S. (Natalie) Elkins of Moundville; three daughters, Carol Elkins of Atmore, Kay Elkins of Jacksonville, Fla. and Janis Elkins of Northport; his sister, Joy (Bennie) Elkins Wall of Woodstock, Ga.; and his aunt, Eva Wilson of Hoover. Other survivors include nieces, Tammy (Danny) Wall Cochran and children of Woodstock, Ga.; Terri (Tim) Wall Speer and children of Woodstock, Ga.; Luanne Elkins Wohlschlaeger and children of Pensacola; nephew, Robert E. Elkins, Jr. of Robertsdale; and a special caregiver, Celene B. McGhee.
Jim graduated from Bessemer High School in 1949 and Auburn University in 1954 with a B. S. degree in music education. He received a Master of Education degree from Auburn University in 1962. He received his AA Teacher Certificate in School Administration and Guidance & Counseling in 1975-1976.
Following his marriage, he joined the United States Army in August 1954, where he was based in Fort Jackson, S.C. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1956-1961. He moved to Atmore in 1956 to accept a position with the Escambia County High School as Band and Choral Director. During this time he also taught instrumental music to fifth and sixth graders. After a short break from teaching, he returned to the education field in 1974 to accept the position of guidance counselor. He retired in June, 1997 with 34 ½ years of educational service.
Jim was an active member of Atmore First United Methodist Church. He served as the choir director for 33 years until his retirement in 1991. He also served on several boards and committees, including Administrative Board, Council on Ministries, and Worship Committee.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 26, 2013, at Atmore First United Methodist Church with the Reverends Jim Reece and Debora Bishop officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with services at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Oakhill Cemetery with military honors.
Active pallbearers are Stephen Van Pelt, Jim Henley, Tyler Speer, Robert Elkins, Jr., Lou Vickery, and Clifton Mims, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers are Jack Beck, Jim Van Pelt, George Van Pelt, Giles Chapman, Pete McGhee, and Danny Cochran.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Atmore First United Methodist Church Building Fund or to the Library Partners of Atmore.

Mr. Danny Amerson, Sr., 64, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2013, in Stapleton.
Mr. Amerson was a native of Bratt and had resided in Stapleton for the past 25 years. His mother, Margie Amerson; two brothers, Jimmy Hibbitts and Eddie Amerson; and one sister, Sandra Lee Wilson precede Mr. Amerson in death.
Survivors include his father, R.J. Amerson of Bratt; two sons, Daniel Frank Amerson, Jr. of Mississippi and Robert Dylan Amerson of Stapleton; one stepson, Joe Amerson of Charlotte, N.C.; one stepdaughter, Jennifer Amerson Parnell of Fairhope; one brother, Bobby Amerson of Bratt; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. C.L. Langford officiating.
