Dennis George Westervelt

Dennis George Westervelt, 73 of Atmore, passed away Friday, October 4, 2013 in Atmore. He was a Kodak display organizer, born in Bronx, N.Y. on February 08, 1940, to the late Eugene George and Geneviève Pickard Westervelt. He served his country by serving in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Rhodes Westervelt of Atmore; four daughters, Denise Eckdahl of Connecticut, Susan Hillie of New Jersey, Lisa Conner and Danielle Guinter both of Pennsylvania; and 10 grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Monday, October 07, 2013, in Judson Cemetery with military honors.
Interment was in Judson Cemetery.

Rachel Powell

Rachel Powell, 82, a native of Evergreen, AL and a longtime resident of Cantonment, passed away October 15, 2013.
She had a green thumb for growing roses and gladiolas and enjoyed gardening very much. Mrs. Powell was an excellent cook, especially pecan pies, chicken and dumplings, apple tarts, and fried chicken. She was an avid student of the Bible and was a member of First Baptist Church Cantonment for more than 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, John Powell; son, Rodney Powell and six brothers. Survivors include her daughter, Beverly (Gary) Kubina; son, Jeffrey (Dianne) Powell; grandchildren: Michael, Makenna, and Matthew Powell; and brother, Roger (Hazel) Kearley; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
The family will receive friends Friday, October 18, 2013 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North in Cantonment. The funeral service will be conducted from the Chapel of Faith Chapel Funeral Home North at 7:30 pm.
Interment will be in Arkadelphia Cemetery in Evergreen, AL on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at 11 a.m. Dr. Will Stone and Reverend. Larry Huff officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Emerald Coast Hospice or to Alzheimer’s Family Services.

Kathy L. Godwin

Mrs. Kathy L. Godwin, age 55 of Flomaton,passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013, in a Pensacola health care facility.
Mrs. Godwin was a native and life long resident of the Brewton area. She was a member of the Flomaton High School class of 1977, and she worked as the Lunchroom Manager at McCall School. She was a member of Friendship Free Will Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Godwin was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie Hayward Wilson and Christine Dewberry Wilson.
She is survived by her husband, Mr. Lendle Godwin of Flomaton; two daughters, Kristy (Greg) Barlow of Flomaton, and Amanda (Dax) Selario of Bridgeport, WV; one sister, Samantha Kay (Paul) Howell of Flomaton; three grandchildren, Darcy, Zoe & Gabbie Selario; special nephew, Ethan Howell; and numerous friends.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 5, 2013, from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home, with Rev. Michael Henderson and Rev. Rusty Burnham officiating.
Interment was in Beulah Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Ethel Wyatt, age 95, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2013, at her Jay residence.
Mrs. Wyatt was born in Escambia County, Ala. She had been a resident of Dixonville, Fla., since 1938, coming from North Brewton. She was a homemaker and was a member of McLellan Church of Christ, and the Eastern Star. Mrs. Wyatt was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. James T. Wyatt, and a daughter, Shirley White.
She is survived by a son, Fred (Pat) Wyatt of Huntsville, AL; four grandchildren, Rusty (Tricia) Wade of Flower Mound, TX, Bill (Teresa) Wade of Newnan, GA, Mima (Jack) Floyd of Jay, and Brian (Patricia) Wyatt of Oakridge, TN; five great-grandchildren, Kathleen Wade, and Jessica Wade, both of Flower Mound, TX, Morgan Floyd, and Mallory Floyd, both of Jay and McCarron Wyatt of Oakridge, TN.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with Minister Charles Dixon officiating.
Interment will follow in Dixonville Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at Craver’s Funeral Home on Monday, October 7, 2013, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Wendell Thomas, Bill Thompson, Kenny Flowers, Jeff Locklin, Tony Stokes, and Steve Locklin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rita Sellers, Patsy Klingler, and Karen Lindsey.

Gracie Ellen Weekly Smith

Gracie Ellen Weekly Smith, 76 of Atmore, passed away on Monday, September 30,2013, in Atmore. She was a homemaker, born in Baldwin County, on October 17, 1936, to the late Ficher and Annie Stewart Weekley.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dudley Smith; granddaughter, Tracy Ramer; two brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Terry (Pam) Weekly of Manvel, TX, and Christopher (Miranda Holland) Ramer of Perdido; one daughter, Sheila (Vernon) Ramer of Perdido; one sister, Luverne (Andrew) Mitchem of Perdido; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Friday, October 4, 2013, at 2 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wendell Hadley officiating.
Interment was in Hall’s Fork Church of Christ Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Tommy Weekley, Clint Weekley, Christopher Ramer, Nathan Styron, Donnie Blackmon, Scott Harris, and Morgan Mills.

Dorothy Ann Bolton, age 69 of Cantonment, passed away on September 29, 2013. Dorothy loved making dolls and clothing and other items for the dolls.
She was preceded in death by her parents Buddie and Getsia Spurgeon; two brothers, Floyd H. Spurgeon and Erbon Spurgeon.
Mrs. Bolton is survived by her husband Daniel Bolton; two daughters, Shonda (Randy) Allred, Cathy (Kip) Jones; son, Danny (Sandra) Bolton; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Tommy) Reed, Danny Bolton Jr., Amanda Allred, Bryan Bolton, Noelle Jones, Brandon Allred, Sarah Jones, Micaela Bolton; three great grandchildren, Kara Reed, Clayton Reed, Gage Gueder and another on the way; three brothers, Jimmy Spurgeon, Jerry (Jenny) Spurgeon, Elmer (Blanche) Spurgeon.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, from 6-8 p.m.at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral will be on Thursday, October 3, 2013, at 2 p.m.at the funeral home with the burial to follow at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Juliaette Wearren Hanks, 77, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2013, in Bratt.
Mrs. Hanks was a native and life long resident of Bratt. Mrs. Hanks was in Women on Missions and attended the First Baptist Church of Bratt.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Cary Sylvester Hanks of Bratt; two sons, Cary Sylvester (Anne) Hanks, Jr. of Maylene, AL and Steven Lamar (Theresa) Hanks of Bratt; one daughter, Susan Denise (Rick) Amerson of Bratt; two sisters, Allie Mae Sexton of Bratt and Vivian Brown of Pensacola; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, October 3, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Bratt Baptist Church with the Rev. Jesse Wood and Rev. Delbert Redditt officiating.
Burial will follow at the Godwin Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 3, 2013, from 10 a.m. until funeral time at 11 a.m. at the Bratt Baptist Church

Randall Craig Odom, 58, of Cantonment,passed away Sunday, September 29, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanore “Carol” Parkton; brother, Kenny and Michael Odom; nephews, Randall Johnson and TJ Godwin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sarah Odom; sisters, Deborah Odom, Kathy (David) Rogers, Betty (Tommy) Robbins, Tammy Warpup and Michelle Odom; brothers, Rickey (Beth) Odom and Jimmy Odom; sister-in-law, Earlene (Doyle) Burnham; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He loved to fish and especially enjoyed going with his nephews, Kevin, Will and Tyler. He was loved by many and will be missed.
Pallbearers will be Kevin, Ty, Will, Josh, Justin and Charlie. Honorary pallbearers will be Rickey and Dallas.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North from 5-7 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 3, 2013, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Pastor Allen Cotton officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope Cemetery.

Mr. Christopher Lee Newsome, 37, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2013, in Mobile.
Mr. Newsome was a native of Columbus, GA, and had resided in Bay Minette for the past 20 years.
Survivors include his two sons, Cameron Newsome of Century, and Peyton Newsome of Century; two daughters, Patience Newsome of Century and Brittney Thompson of Bay Minette; two brothers, Terry (Becky) Newsome of Perdido, AL and Twin-Michael (Lynissa) Newsome of Bay Minette; four nephews, Terrence Newsome, Brad Newsome, Myles Newsome and Austin Coleman, all of Bay Minette; two Great-Nephews, Bentley Newsome of Bay Minette and Eli Newsome of Poarch, AL.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Malcolm Harrelson officiating.
Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Frances Haynie McNeil

Frances Haynie McNeil, age 90, originally of Pensacola, passed away early Thursday morning, September 26, 2013, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law in Tallahassee.
Mrs. McNeil was born near Eclectic in Elmore County, Alabama on July 14, 1923. She graduated from Atmore High School in 1942. She married James Robert McNeil, Chief USN, on November 24, 1944 at Ramona’s Marriage Place in San Diego, California. After having two children, a boy and a girl, at Bethesda Navy Hospital in Maryland she and her family eventually settled in Pensacola in 1956.
Mrs. McNeil was a lifelong member of the Warrington Baptist Church, The Order of The Eastern Star, and was a National Flower Show Judge. Later she went to college, earning an Associates of Arts degree at Pensacola Junior College in 1969, and, in 1972, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art at the University of West Florida.
In 2004, her home in Pensacola was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan. Mrs. McNeil then moved to Tallahassee, to live with her son and daughter-in-law. Her health declined after a fall on July 1st of this year. “Miss Frances” or “Rainbow,” as her grandson named her, was lovingly cared for by her family, her doctors, the wonderful caregivers from Home Instead Senior Care, and many other private caregivers who were truly angels of comfort. Finally, her last days were blessed with the dedicated staff of Covenant Hospice.
Mrs. McNeil was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert McNeil, in 1999. She is survived by her son, Charles R. McNeil of Tallahassee; her daughter, Janice McNeil Wood, of Huntsville, Alabama; and her three grandchildren: Mack Turner Wood, Katrina Noelle Wood, and Marlena LaRue Wood, also of Huntsville.
Friends are invited to a visitation with reception at Oak Lawn Funeral on Monday September 30, 2013, from 5-7 p.m.
Graveside services will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday October 1, 2013, at Barrancas National Cemetery, and will go in procession from the funeral home at 10:30am.
