Wanda McGhee Byrd

Mrs. Wanda McGhee Byrd, 53, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2013, in Mobile.
Mrs. Byrd was a native of Atmore, former resident of Bay Minette and had resided in Mobile for the past 18 years. Mrs. Byrd was a member of Poarch Creek Indians; she was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She is preceded in death by her stepfather, Samuel Author Rayborn; brother, Samuel Dewayne Rayborn; and sister, Patricia Rayborn.
She is survived by her mother, Barbara Pauline Rayborn of Atmore; two sons, Anthony David McGhee of Houston, TX and Randy Dewayne McGhee of Loxley; one daughter, Amanda Jean McGhee of Conroe, TX; one brother, Wesley Junior Rayborn of Atmore; four sisters, Debra Watson, Rhonda Rayborn, Pam Jackson and Felicia Marshall all of Atmore; two grandchildren, Megan Marie McGhee and Savanah Nicole McGhee.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 2, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Wayne Davis officiating.
Burial will follow at Freemanville Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 1, 2014, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Edward Godwin, Roy Rolin, Donald Phillips, Hubert Rolin, Anthony Jordon and Trent Rayborn.

Charles Wayne McPherson

Charles Wayne McPherson, 81, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013, at his home in Walnut Hill. He was born on April 2, 1932, in Lone Star, Alabama to John and Lillie Mae McPherson. He graduated from Beatrice High School and served his country by spending two years in the Air Force. After retiring from Monsanto in 1984, Charles filled his days with many joyous fishing trips and time with his beloved wife of 58 years. He was also a devoted grandfather to his two precious grandchildren where he enjoyed attending countless school activities and sporting events throughout the years. Charles was a committed member of Atmore Community of Christ Church where he served in many roles. He was active in the community and was a dedicated member of the Walnut Hill Ruritan. Charles was full of love, always smiling, and enjoyed sharing with people the love of God and the joyful sounds of music.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Gordon and Lillie Mae (Salter) McPherson; a sister, Ouida Crawford; and a brother, Gordon Derhylon McPherson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Betty Sue (Lee) McPherson and his son, Larry (Mary) McPherson, and two grandchildren, Patrick Wayne McPherson and Charleigh Victoria McPherson.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at 11 a.m. from the Huxford Community of Christ Church with Elders Gary Gilbert and Glenn Waldrop officiating.
Interment will follow in Huxford Community of Christ Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 31, 2013, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Huxford Community of Christ Church.

Mrs. Louise Mason Jones, 68, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2013, in Atmore. Mrs. Jones was a native of Bratt and had lived in Atmore most of her life. She was a wonderful mother and she attended the Church of the Living God.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Harold Jones; parents, Marvin and Alda Mae Mason; five brothers, Robert Qualls, Lonnie Qualls, Bill Qualls, Harold Qualls and Buddy Mason; and two sisters, Clara Bell Payne and Ethel Davidson.
She is survived by her two sons, Tony Jones (Levonda) of Bay Minette and Tabo Jones (Teresa) of Montgomery; two daughters, Patty Wiggins (Henry) and Wanda Marshall all of Atmore; two sisters, Frances Cain and Dorothy Rhoades, both of Atmore; 13 grandchildren, Brittany Jones Revel, MaKayla Smith Corey, Dakota Smith, Dillon Marshall, Hunter Marshall Revel, Jessica Jones, Mason Jones, Dawson Jones, Lauren Wiggins, Lindsey Wiggins, Luke Wiggins, Megan Jones and Hannah Jones; five great-grandchildren, Trasen White, Kylin Jones, Jazlin White, MaKenzie Corey and Ayden Corey; and a special family friend and cook, Rotasha Dailey of Atmore.
Funeral services will be held at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Earl Harrison officiating.
Burial will follow at the Serenity Garden Cemetery.

Fredrick Tawain Lee, 33, passed away December 28, 2013, at his home in Cantonment.
Fredrick, affectionately known as “Freddy” or “Boobie”, was born July 15, 1980, in Pensacola, to the late Rosie Chever and Fred Lee. Fredrick was christened as an infant by Mr. & Mrs. Roland Brown.
He graduated from J.M. Tate High School in 1998 and attended Pensacola Junior College. Freddy had a great sense of humor and humble spirit. He was full of information, enjoyed working on computers and electronics and was always interested in the latest technology.
Fredrick was preceded in death by his mother, Rosie Chever; and his grandparents, Floyd and Mary Cooks.
He is survived by his father, Fred (Latonya) Lee; brothers, Danny (Vicki) Cooks, Hamp (Joyce) Chever, Leroy (Tiffany) Chever, Floyd Galloway, Aric (Stephanie) Lee, David Lee, Fred Lee, Jr, Marcellus Smith, and Mareese Smith; sisters, Tracie Brantley and Jackie Stephenson, all of Cantonment; godparents, Roland and Lucile Brown of Laplace, Louisiana and Billy and Henreitta Broughton of Cantonment; one godchild, Tadarius Tucker; eleven god-sisters and god-brothers; two devoted Bridgette Simpkins and Terrel Cooks; several nieces and nephews and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January, 4, 2014, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Cantonment.
Burial will take place at Pensacola Memorial Gardens.

Eva Nell Burkett, 61 of Atmore, passed away Friday, December 27, 2013, in Mobile. She born in Atmore on March 13, 1952, to the late Levi and Treacy Walker McGhee. She attended Atmore Apostolic Church, was a member and employed by Poarch Creek Indians.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Leo McGhee and Chairmen Fred Lee McGhee, four sisters, Carlie Dalrymple, Martha Wilson, Imogene Sheets and Donna White; one great-grandchild, Brayden Jackson.
Survivors include two sons, Scott (Tammy) Jackson of Wetumpka, Ala., and Joshua (Vicky) Burkett of Atmore; two daughters, Tina Call and Teresa McLaughlin both of Jay; six sisters, Helen Hallman, Deloris Kelley, Velma Crocker, Eldnar (Shirley) McGhee, Myrtis (David) Kinman and Judy McGhee, all of Atmore; four grandchildren, Dalton Jackson, Douglas Bennamon, Joshua Kahne Burkett and Haylee Jackson; two great-grandchildren, Brody Durham and Rylan Jackson.
Services were held Monday, December 30, 2013, from the Atmore Apostolic Church with Rev. Steve Ward officiating.
Interment was in New Home Cemetery in Poarch.
Active pallbearers were Stevie McGhee, Trent Jackson, Ryan Exum, Rodney Exum, David Allen Kinman and Arthur Mothershed.
Honorary pallbearers were Kevin McGhee, Dernick McGhee, James Roberson, Dusty Martin, Greg McGhee and Logan Boatwright.

Helen Louise Emmons Wall

Helen Louise Emmons Wall, 67 of Atmore, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013, at her residence. She was retired from Masland Carpets as quality control, now presently working at Poarch Travel Plaza and doing tax work. She was born in Homestead, Fla., on January 5, 1946, to the late Clifton Eugene and Evelyn Schefield Emmons.
She is preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Emmons and Marvin Emmons; and one sister, Evelyn Herr.
Survivors include her two sons, Chris (Donna) Emmons and Allen (Stacey) Wall, all of McCullough; one daughter, Donna (David) Byrd of Monroeville; one sister, Mary Lou (Jackie) Watson of Jay; six grandchildren, Robbie, Lacey, Noelle, Brianna, Joshua, and Ayden; and two great-grandchildren, Micah and Maddox.
Services will be Thursday, January 2, 2014, at noon from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jesse Wood officiating.
Interment will follow in McCullough Cemetery.
Family will receive friends, Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until service time.

Marilyn June Zylstra was born May 18, 1954, and passed away December 25, 2013.
Marilyn was a lifelong resident of Pensacola and graduated from Tate High School. She worked as an interpreter for the deaf in the Escambia County School District for twenty years. After retiring, she, along with her husband, established Coastline Striping, Inc. in 2005. She served as president of the company and continued to work until her death. She attended First Pentecostal Church where she was involved in the Deaf Ministry.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Joanie Jackson and Tammy Hooks.
She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Dennis Zylstra; her son, Derek (Jahayla) Zylstra; grandchildren, Madelyn, Brooklyn, and Levi Zylstra; mother, Jeanette Hooks; father, Devon (Sharon) Hooks; sister, Sherry (Randy) Nims; brother-in-law, Gary (Maralyn) Zylstra; sister-in-law, Janet Gay; spiritual daughter, April (Kevin) Stewart and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 29, 2013, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 30, 2013, at First Pentecostal Church, 6500 North W Street, with Reverends Brian Kinsey and Paul Welch officiating.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Nims, Jason Zylstra, Aaron Paparella, Kevin Stewart, Ryan McIntosh, and Dennis Johnston.
The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Tan and staff at the Woodlands. Also, a special thanks to the nurses at Sacred Heart Hospital on the second floor Oncology Unit and Infusion Center, for the love and care provided during her stay.

Charles Warren Phillips, 61, of Atmore, passed away December 26, 2013. He was born June 21, 1952, in Atmore. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ruby Bryars Phillips and siblings Gary, K.C, Ramona, Lance, Gail, David and Linda. Charlie will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
He is survived by two daughters, Catina (Scott) Francis of Walnut Hill and Regina (Steven) Ross of Atmore; brothers, Lynn Phillips of Flomaton, Murray Phillips of Perdido and his sister, Carmer Jean Lewis of Perdido; and grandchildren, Amber (Elliot) Ross, Lindsey Francis, Alexia Ross and Abby Ross.
Memorial services will be held Monday, December 30, 2013, at 11 a.m. from the First Baptist Church of Atmore with Bro. Malcolm Harrison officiating.

Dorothy Nell (Dot) Crews Penton, age 82, of Hollandtown passed away on December 24, 2013. She was a long time member of Pine Level Baptist Church. She retired from Monsanto after more than 20 years. Dot loved gardening, canning, and visiting with friends and family. She will be greatly missed by the community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Julian I. Crews and Annie Ruth Byrd Crews; husband, O.T. Penton; brothers, Emory O. Crews and Roy M. Crews; son-in-law, Lamar Lewis; brother-in-law, Edward Sutton; sister-in-law, Pauline Penton (T.H.) Fulmore and a special friend, G.W. White.
She is survived by her daughter, Paulette Penton Lewis; grandsons, Timmy (Michelle) Lunsford and Jonathan Holland; granddaughter, Lori (Rusty) Lunsford Lee; great-grandsons, Kody, Brant, and Trevor Lunsford and Connor and Tanner Lee; sister, Betty Crews (Sammy) Simmons; sisters-in-law, Helen West Crews and Norma May McCurley; special friends, Louise Arnette, Patty McGraw, and Rex Wayne Smith and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Genie Malphurs; her loving husband of 40 years, George H. Kelly, Sr.; two daughters, Teresa Ann Braxton and Barbara Sue Green; one granddaughter, Regina Anna Harrell; two brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her children, Regina Johnson (Allen), George H. Kelly, Jr. (Mary) and Chris Kelly (Nancy); grandchildren, Christopher Johnson, Michael Johnson (Stacey), Wes Braxton, Samuel Green, George H.
