Christine Thompson

Mrs. Christine Thompson, 83, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014, in Atmore.
Mrs. Thompson was a native of Canoe and a resident of Flomaton for most of her life. She retired from Vanity Fair and attended the Sardis Baptist Church. Her husband, Bert Thompson; three sons, Bobby Thompson, Bert Thompson, Jr. and Michael Thompson; and one granddaughter, Tina Thompson Hall precede her in death.
She is survived by her son, Charles Thompson of Flomaton; two daughters, Gracie (Glendall) Pridgen of Flomaton and Pamela Bethea of East Brewton; daughter-in-law, Sue Thompson; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 30, 2014, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Earle Greene officiating.
Burial was at the Sardis Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Greg Odom, Chris Thompson, B.J. Thompson, Michael Adams, Jeremy Pridgen and Bubba Pridgen.
Honorary pallbearers were Maurice Lewis, Randay Adams, Burton Smith and Little Charles Thompson.

James T. (Jimmy) Sanborn
June 30, 2014
James T. (Jimmy) Sanborn, age 72, left this earthly world on June 28, 2014, at Providence Hospital in Mobile surrounded by his family.
He was born on July 17, 1941, in Revere, Mass. He was preceded in death by his father, Morris Sanborn; mother, Irene McMillon; step father, Bill McMillon; and sister, Martha (Marty) Sanborn.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sharon S. Sanborn; brother, Brian Sanborn of Anniston; children, Beverly Sanborn Foster of Northport, AL, Nora Tate of Burlison, TN, Tracey Sanborn of Pensacola, Dee Dee M. Ward of Alabaster, AL and Kylisha J. Mallard of Sharpsburg, GA; sons-in-law, Matt Foster, Jeff Ward and Dexter Mallard; grandchildren, Rachel Worthing, Jerry Wayne Philyaw, Beth Gallagher, Jordan and Marisol Foster, Patrick, Alex and Cristiana Joy Ward, and Zoey, Hayden and Hanna Mallard; and three great-grandchildren.
Following his interest in justice and law enforcement, he obtained a BS from Troy State University, followed by a MS in Criminal Justice from Tennessee Christian University. His 33-year career of serving his community began as a police officer in several small towns in South/Central Alabama, including the Brewton Police Department. The majority of his career was with the Alabama Department of Corrections in Atmore, where he retired as a Lieutenant. He was a 32 degree member of Mobile Scottish Rite, as well as a member of Norris Lodge #301, Perdido Lodge #752, Monroeville York Rite Bodies, and ABBA Temple Shriners of Mobile. He was an avid gun collector and restorer, enjoyed collecting patches and Americana memorabilia, loved Western movies and gardening. Most of all, Jimmy dearly loved his family and church. He and Sharon had recently renewed their wedding vows.
Following his long time wishes, his remains were donated to the University of South Alabama to further medical science, research, and education.
A memorial will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church on July 6, at 2 p.m. to celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to his beloved church, Trinity Episcopal at 203 S. Carney St, Atmore, AL 36502.
Joe Phillips
June 30, 2014
Mr. Joe Phillips, 92, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2014, in Little River, Alabama.
Mr. Phillips was a native of Lottie and a lifelong resident of Little River. Mr. Phillips was a veteran of World War II, See Bees, Carpenters Local 89. He attended the Honor Flight of World War II in September 2012. Mr. Phillips was the last of eight children to die. He was one good man remarked by his wife. He was a member of the Lottie Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Letitia Phillips of Little River; three sons, Dale Phillips and Mike Phillips both of Bay Minette and Stephen Phillips of Little River; two step-sons, Larry Wooten of Brewton and Joe Frank Wooten of Bratt; two step-daughters, Brenda Sessions of Stockton and Connie Dorriety of Latham, Ala.; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Pruitt officiating.
Burial will follow at the Phillips Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Phillips, Austin Hornady, Brandon Piper, Brad Wooten, Greg Phillips and Neal Phillips.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Phillips, Billy Scott, Billy Dorriety, Ron Sessions, Nip Hadley and Aubrey Jay.

Robin Floyd
June 28, 2014
Robin Floyd age 57 of Jay, passed away on June 26, 2014. He was an equine farrier-trainer and enjoyed working with horses and dogs. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, and friend to many and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his mother, Lois Floyd; father, Shorty (Linda) Floyd; brothers, Darwin (Maggie) Floyd and Jack (Mima) Floyd; sister, Pamela Darlene Floyd; nieces, Morgan and Mallory Floyd and numerous family and friends.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2014, at Jay Funeral Home with funeral services to begin at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Frederick Barrow officiating.
Burial will follow at Walling Cemetery.
Music will be provided by Holly Driver.

Lamar Padgett
June 28, 2014
Lamar Padgett, 73, of Cantonment, went to his Heavenly Home on Wednesday, June 25, 2014. Lamar was born April 4, 1941. He graduated from JM Tate High School in 1959. He served in the US Army and US Army Reserves and was honorably discharged with a rank of SP4. He worked for L&N Railroad which later became CSX Railroad. He retired from CSX in 1992. He was a member of The First Baptist Church of Cantonment and was baptized there on January 4, 2004. Lamar loved God, his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Lamar was an avid sports fan. He loved his Cleveland Browns, Florida Gators, Cleveland Indians and Atlanta Braves.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer and Audrey Lyster Padgett; brothers, Ronnie Padgett and Don Padgett. His sister, Barbara Gentry, passed away Friday, June 27, 2014.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo Padgett of Cantonment; daughters, Terry Padgett (Richard Perilloux) of Cantonment and Allison Marabella (Steve) of Pensacola; sons, Patrick “Bubba” Padgett of Cantonment, Jack Cleveland of Pensacola, Tommy Schubert (Chantel) of Ft. Belvoir, VA and Stephen Schubert (Joie) of Kansas City, KS; grandchildren, Haley, Wyatt, Chloe, Richard, Amber, Chania, Amy, Mary, Thomas, Kaitlin, Kiersten, Ethan, Annelise, Stephen, and Hippie Love; great-grandchildren, Parker, Mckinely and Kendall; sisters, Gloria Pittman of Pensacola, Ginger Lawson (Glyn) of Pensacola and Peggy Morales (Lewis) of Tampa; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Padgett, Jack Cleveland, Tommy Schubert, Lewis Arnett, Rick Butler and Charles Bober.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m on Monday, June 30, 2014, with funeral services to begin at 10 a.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Reverend Larry Huff.
Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.

Charles Edward Reed Sr., 68, of Cantonment, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2014. Charles was a truck driver for thirty years and a “Jack of all trades”. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, and “PopPop”. He was loved by many and will be missed.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Billie Lynn Reed; parents, Benton and Mary Reed; step-dad, Emanual Sullins and his sister, Mahala Mixon.
He is survived by his son, Charles “Eddie” Reed, Jr.; daughters, Crystal Renea Jackson (Dwayne), Monica Smith (Seth), Marla Tigner (John) and Katelyn Reed-Hite (Matt); grandchildren, Richard, Chris, Carol, Crystal, Phillip and Charlie, Jarret, Elizabeth, Jonathan, John Caleb, Emily, Khloe and Kenzee; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with the funeral services to begin at 4 p.m.

Evelyn Chavers Tuberville

Evelyn Chavers Tuberville, 78 of Atmore, passed away Friday June27, 2014, in Atmore. She was a homemaker, born in Escambia County, Ala., on June 20, 1936, to the late Wardlow and Audrey Dreadin Chavers.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Tuberville and brother “J.P” Preston Chavers.
Survivors include her son, Steve (Cherry) Tuberville of Huxford; one brother, Jerry (Cheryl) Vickery of Huxford; two sisters, Mavis Singleton of Atmore and Judy (John) Layton of Jacksonville, Fla.; two grandchildren, Colin and Caitlin Tuberville of Huxford.
Services will be Sunday, June 29, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Larry Renfroe officiating.
Interment will follow in Huxford Baptist cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Matthew Vickery, Garrie Singleton, Brian Harrison, Chet Helton, Brad Trawick, Chris Singleton, and Gerald Parmer.
Family will receive friends, Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 1:30 p.m. until service time at 2:30 p.m.

Carl Albert (Bert) Weis, III
June 26, 2014
Carl Albert (Bert) Weis III, 83, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014. He was born November 24, 1931, in Pensacola to Dorothy Wing and Henry Mahlon Weis. He attended Pensacola High School and Baylor Military Academy before joining the Navy. He served on the USS ANTIETAM (VC-35) in the Korean Conflict. He was married to Elisabeth Kirchmaier Weis December 28, 1952, and together they raised four boys. He married Frances (Misty) Poyser Weis in 1976. She brought two sons and a daughter to Bert’s family.
Bert loved the outdoors, spending time with family, music and traveling the tropics with the family business, Weis Fricker Mahogany Company. With most of his life spent in the lumber and timber, export and import business he became an expert in heavy machinery, dealings in South American business and sawmills. He sold the business to Dant and Russell in 1976.
Dad’s passion was revealed in 1990, when he answered the Lord’s calling and attended the United Methodist Course of Study, finishing in 1993. Licensed as a local pastor he was appointed to Byrneville UMC, St. Paul UMC Bay Minette, and then to Pollard UMC, where he served until his recent retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Evelyn Scott.
He is survived by his wife, Misty Weis; sons, Carl (Naomi), Michael (Terry), Joseph Mahlon, and Bill (Lorrie); eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his step-children, Colin (Mae), Angie, and Michael (Angela) Feeser; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Bobby Anne Land and Dorothy McCoy.
A graveside service will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery at 10:15 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2014. A celebration of life service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Atmore at 12:30 p.m. with visitation immediately following in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to First United Methodist Church, 311 South Pensacola Avenue, Atmore, AL.

Ernest H. Walker

Ernest H. Walker, 92, of Cantonment passed away peacefully in his sleep June 22, 2014.
He retired from Saint Regis in 1983. He loved gardening, fishing but most of all he loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Neoma Lucille Walker.
Mr. Walker is survived by his grandson, Garlie Woods; great-grandson, Erik (Jennifer) White; great-great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Alena, and Kirsten White; and sister, Maudie Campbell.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Rev. Kenneth Johnson officiating.
Burial will follow in Cottage Hill Assembly of God Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. until time of service.

Mattie Ruth Messer Harrison

After joyously celebrating her 100th birthday in January, Mattie Ruth Messer Harrison received her angel wings on Monday, June 23, 2014. Mattie was born January 13, 1914, in Samson, Alabama to Gabe and Versie Messer. She lived and worked on a farm with her five brothers and two sisters. In 1940 she married Alton A. (Bud) Harrison and in 1948 moved to Jay, where they became active members of the community. She was a full time homemaker, and spent most of her time volunteering at Jay Hospital, working in her church, teaching Sunday school, acting as church clerk for many years, and enjoying being a member of the Jolly Jays. Mattie served as the site manager for sixty plus meal site, and spent many hours taking the elderly to doctors’ appointments, etc. She inspired many with her active and healthy lifestyle. After her husband’s death in 2004, she resided with her daughter for 5-1/2 years. At the time of her death she was a resident of the Terrace at Ivey Acres in Jay.
Mattie was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters, and her loving husband of 64 years.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories two children, Marolyn (Julius) Middleton, of Jay and Kerry Alton Harrison (Beverly) of Tifton, Georgia; two grandchildren she adored, Jon (J.J.) (Michelle) Middleton of Pace and Jennifer (Jimmy) Warren of Fairhope; and her four great-grandchildren, Chloe and Crosby Warren and Marlee and McClain Middleton. She is also survived by three special nieces, Miriam McKinney, Blondell Barberi, and Geraldine Samartano, along with many other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Harrison will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Jay with Reverend Chip Fox and Reverend Frederick Barrow officiating.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 2 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m.
