Billie C. Dewberry Spears

Mrs. Billie C. Dewberry Spears, 82 of Atmore, passed away Wednesday July 2, 2014, in Atmore. She was a retired secretary with over 20 years of service to the First United Methodist Church of Atmore. She was born on July 4, 1931 in Vincent, Ala., to the late Charles Gordon and Wilma Wilemon Dewberry. She attended Auburn University, was a member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Service Sorority, and was a Pink Lady at South West Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb, MS.

Survivors include her husband of over 55 years, James D. Spears of Atmore; one son, Stanley D. (Elizabeth) Spears of Birmingham; one daughter, Leigh Ann Horst of Orange Park, Fla; and two grandsons, Jacob Charles Horst and Jordan Kyle Horst.

Services will be Saturday, July 5, 2014, at 10 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church of Atmore with Rev. Deborah Bishop officiating. Family will receive friends Saturday, July 5, 2014, at the first United Methodist Church of Atmore from 9 a.m. until service time. Graveside services will be Saturday, July 5, 2014, at 3 p.m. in Auburn Memorial Park Cemetery Auburn, Ala.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Atmore Building Fund.

James Ernest Carlisle

James Ernest Carlisle, 85 of Cantonment passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2014. Ernest was born on March 15, 1929, in Muscogg, FL to the late John T. Carlisle and Clara Garrett Carlisle. Ernest retired from International Paper Mill after 44 years of service. He loved his job and was very dedicated to his work.

Ernest was preceded in death on September 30, 2009. by his wife of 59 years, Geraldine V. Carlisle; his parents; and his daughter, Joyce Goodwin.

He is survived by his children, Larry (Debbie) and Bo (Diane) Carlisle; grandchildren, Cory, Mandy, Jay, Kaila, Kim, Amy, Matt and Marshall; a number of great-grandchildren; son-in- law, Larry Goodwin; and numerous other relatives.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.

Donald Eugene Butler

July 4, 2014

Donald was born on June 5, 1954, and passed away on June 16, 2014, in Indianapolis, IN. He lived in Walnut Hill from 1996-2010.

Don leaves behind his wife, Glenda Butler, of 17 years; three step-sons, David Haid, John Haid (Joni) and Gregory Haid (Lindsay); seven grandchildren; two sisters, Elaine (Dave), Kris (Scott); six nieces, five nephews and seven great-nephews.

He is preceeded in death by his parents, Edwin and Dorothy Butler; one brother, Charlie and one sister, Gwen.

Services will be held at Barrancas National Cemetary on July 9, 2014, at 11 a.m.

Henry Curtis Tedder “Junior”

Henry Curtis Tedder “Junior” was born April 5, 1948, and passed away on June 29, 2014, at his home on Tedder Hill.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Curtis Tedder and Effie “Della” Ardella Cobb Tedder; and sister, Roda Tedder.

He is survived by his son, Jessie James (Sherrell) Tedder; granddaughters, Mirandra Grice, Autumn Lyell, Storm Lyell and great-granddaughter, Skarlet Boyd; son, George (Jamie) Batz “Shay”, grandchildren, Angel Philyaw, Jasmyn Walker, Austin and Dallas Batz; step-daughter, Cheryl Henderson (Jason) and granddaughters, Stepanie, Kayla, Kimberly and Marilyn; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Kallie and Roger, his “adopted” sons, Jerry Capers and Dwayne Young; a sister, Francess Janett Tedder Lowry; nieces, Suzie, Lisa, Linda, Lisa Hawkins and Sabrina; and nephew, Charles.

“Junior” Tedder was a Veteran of the Marines in the Vietnam War and a POW. He was a truck driver and a logger. He enjoyed motorcycles and loved his family deeply. He was always helping someone out.

We would like to give a special appreciation to his cousin Henry T. Tedder for being his caretaker.

A private memorial will be set at a later date.

Cournel J. ‘C.J.’ Emmons

Mr. Cournel J. ‘C.J.’ Emmons, age 84 of Flomaton,  passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at his home.

Mr. Emmons was a native and lifetime resident of the Flomaton community where he was a member of Little Escambia Baptist Church. Mr. Emmons worked for 23 years for Container Corporation as a millwright.

He is survived by his wife of 64½ years, Mrs. Velma M. Emmons of Flomaton; daughters, Linda Milam of Flomaton, Marty (Melvin) Rolin of Atmore, Nancy (Ray) Evans of Flomaton; sister, Viola Jean (Lee) Nichols of Flomaton; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and numerous other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 6 – 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. with Bro. Ralph Morgan and Bro. Doug Hogg officiating.

Interment will follow in Emmons Cemetery, Flomaton.

Tori Amber Jordan

Ms. Tori Amber Jordan, 17, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2014, in Century.

Ms. Jordan was a native of Pensacola and a resident of Davisville most of her life. Ms. Jordan had a love for music as well as singing. She was chosen All County Chorus fifth and eighth grade, loved to read and was a member of ROTC for 2011 and 2012. She attended the First Baptist Church of Bratt. Her grandfather, Rusty Harrison; great-grandfather, Willie Davis; and great-grandparents, Thadis and Della Johnson and Comer and Lela Burkett precede her in death.

She is survived by her father, Cary Jordan of Davisville; mother, Brenda Jordan (Dominic Mock) of Atmore; one brother, Toby Jordan of Davisville; boyfriend, Clay Dall of Robinsonville; grandparents, Cindy Davis Harrison of Davisville, Diane & Wayne Burkett of Atmore and Carly Edwards of Bratt; great-grandparent, Lillian Merle Davis of Davisville; three uncles, Chris Edwards of Cantonment, Scottie (Lisa) Burkett of Atmore and Stephen Burkett of Atmore; and numerous cousins, family and friends.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Hawsey and Rev. Delbert Redditt officiating.

Burial will follow at the Pine Barren Cemetery.

Marion Lee Skipper

Mr. Marion Lee Skipper, 72, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2014, in Atmore.

Mr. Skipper was a native of Excel and a resident of Huxford for most of his life. Mr. Skipper was an avid fisherman, hunter and a die hard Alabama Crimson Tide football fan. He attended the Atmore Church of Christ. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Sarah Skipper; and sister, Edna Browning.

He is survived by his wife, Liz Skipper of Huxford; two sons, Michael (Sandra) Skipper of Gainstown, AL and Jack (Sandy) Hadley of Uriah; adopted son, Paul (Lynn) Brown of Franklin, AL; one daughter, Kathy (Gary) Buckhault of Perdido; two brothers, Harold Skipper of Excel and Lauris (Charlottle) Skipper of Cantonment; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

James Terry Gafford

Mr. James Terry Gafford, age 52 of Flomaton, passed away suddenly on Monday, June 30, 2014.

Mr. Gafford was a native of Flomaton and a lifetime resident of the community. He worked as a pumper operator in the oilfield industry and was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his parents, W.T. and Carolyn Gafford of Flomaton; brother, Thomas Scott ‘Scottie’ Gafford of Flomaton; special friend, Kristin Sawyer of Flomaton; and grandmother, Mrs. Nettie Darnell of Flomaton.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jerry Keese and Rev. Dustin Stockstill officiating.

Interment will be in Green Acres Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Brewton.

John Edwin Hopkins

Mr. John Edwin Hopkins, 73, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014, in Jay.

Mr. Hopkins was a native and lifelong resident of McDavid. Mr. Hopkins was an avid hunter and sportsman and he attended the Windy Hill Baptist Church. His mother, Flora Roach Hopkins and father, Russell Hopkins; two sons, Michael “Bubby” Hopkins and Nathan Hopkins; and sister, Louise McBride precede him in death.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharlene Hopkins Bondurant of Cantonment; one brother, Charles Hopkins of McDavid; four grandchildren, Holley Penrod and Johnathan Nelson both of Pensacola, Meagan and Lauren; special friends and caretakers, Bruce Cofield, Donny Wiggins, Tim Hammond and Edna Mae Darby.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 29, 2014, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Sam Weaver officiating.

Burial will follow at Crary Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dwight Hopkins, Matt Robbins, Sheldon Robbins, Tim Hammond, Dennis Mathis, Mike Brown and Steve Brown.

Elizabeth F. Classen

Elizabeth F. Classen, 93 of Walnut Hill, passed away on June 28, 2014, at her residence. She was a homemaker, born in Meade, KS on January 20, 1921, to the late Jacob and Lena Friesen Loewen. She was a member of Atmore Mennonite Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Classen; one infant son, Kenneth Classen, one great-grandson, Truman Heatwole; and brother, Henry Loewen.

Survivors include three sons, Roy(Mirian) Classen of Walnut Hill, Ken (Mable) Classen of Atmore, and Steve (Treva) Classen of Walnut Hill; two daughters, Marianne Classen of Walnut Hill, and Beverly Classen of Sarasota; one brother, John Loewen of Meade, KS; one sister, Bertha Classen of Sturgis, MI; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday, July 01, 2014, at 2 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Martin and Rev. Anthony Swartzendruber officiating.

Interment will follow in Freemanville Community Cemetery.
