Margaret E. Sanders

Margaret E. Sanders was born in Big Springs, TX ,on March 25, 1934, to Paul Stadler Ellis and Mazzie Wright Ellis. She passed away on July 19, 2014.  She was a 1952 graduate of Tate High School.

She married James D. Sanders on Feb. 28 1960, whom she leaves behind after 54 years of marriage.They reared four sons, Kenneth M. Sanders, Robert C. Sanders, Carl D. Sanders, and Byron J. Sanders in the Elsanor community where she was also active in volunteering. After retiring from a lengthy civil service career with the Naval Aviation Depot in Pensacola where she served with the public affairs officer, she continued to work for the Providence Family Medical Center. She shared a love for decorating cakes, writing stories, painting, and sewing with family and friends.

Her siblings and she were very close; Alvin D. Ellis preceeds her in death. She is survived by siblings Paula E. Nighbert of Hilliard, FL, Charles E. Ellis of Cantonment, and James Ellis of Fredericksburg, Texas; 10 grandchildren who called her “Gink”, Thomas, Hannah, Marrah, Joseph, Aaron, Emily, Adam, Maria, Curry, and Robert Jr.

She was a long-time member of Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church in Molino and loved to sing from the “old school hymnal”.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Margaret E. Sanders, 80, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North was held on Saturday, August 2, 2014.

Herman Black

August 3, 2014

Mr. Herman Black, 86, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2014, in Pensacola.

Mr. Black was a native of Canoe and resident of Atmore for most of his life. Mr. Black was member of the Atmore VFW post and attended the Canoe Methodist Church. His parents, Presley and Pearl Black; and brother, William Billy Black, precede him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Black of Atmore; two sons, Butch (Glenda) Black of Atmore and Tal (Embee) Black of Bay Minette; one daughter, Suzan (David) Amos of Atmore; one brother, Jerry (Barbara) Black of Clayton, NC; seven grandchildren, Chris Black, Chad Black, Shawn Amos, Nicholas Plash, Brandon Amos, Cody Black and Kelby Amos; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Canoe Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Watts and Larry Renfroe officiating.

Burial was at the Canoe Methodist Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Tommy Young, Blake Young, Freddy Lambeth, Thomas Guy, Jimmy Lee and Johnny Lee Jones.

Susan Dianne Waters Bryant

Susan Dianne Waters Bryant went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 27, 2014.

She was born on December 7, 1952, to Oscar Waters and Gladys M. Johnson.

Dianne was a resident of Cantonment and had worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at West Florida Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Regina Dianne Ferguson; father, Oscar Ellis Waters; and step-father, Bill Johnson.

Dianne is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Greenhill; sons, David (Kelly) Bryant and Johnny Bryant; mother, Gladys M. Johnson; sisters, Sharon Giraud and family and Linda Waymire and family; brother, David Shirey; granddaughters, Taylor Ferguson (Matt Flota) and Annie (Ryan) Normand; grandsons, Michael Ferguson (Angel Golden), Ellis Merchant, Austin Tanton (Breann Bellizzi), Dylan Bryant (Shawna Rose) and River Bryant; great-grandchildren, Kamden Ferguson, Wyatt Normand and Skye Tanton.

Dianne was loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Rev. Steven Simmons officiating.

Burial was in Morgan Cemetery.

Lottie Lee McGhee Daughtry Duerst

Mrs. Lottie Lee “McGhee” Daughtry Duerst, 82, passed away August 1, 2014, in Poarch.

Lottie was born in Poarch on September 23, 1931. She was a former resident of Mobile and a resident of Atmore for the past 15 years. Lottie was a proud member of the Poarch community where she spent most of her life nurturing her family traditions and native heritage. She was a proud member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. She was preceded in death by her father, Luther McGhee; mother, Girlie Rolin; son, Autrey Delane Daughtry; brother, Richard McGhee; and sisters, Leola Manac, Bessie O’Barr, and Linda Gail Parker.

Lottie is survived by two brothers, Buford Rolin and William Rolin; four daughters, Shelia (Joe) Lowe, Glenda McCaw, and Sarah Rone all of Poarch and Annette Roberts of Daphne; two sons, Andy Wayne Daughtry and William Todd Daughtry both of Poarch; 12 grandchildren, Valerie Daughtry Fuller, Ashley Lowe, Stacey Lowe, Tracey Lowe, Brandon Manac, Lindsey Manac, Misty Manac, Jim Roberts, Amanda Roberts, Shane Daughtry, Melissa Loper, and Leslie Albritton and 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at 2 p.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ray Ward officiating.

Burial will follow in Judson Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2014, from 12 p.m. until service time from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Joel Reed, Rickey Reed, Lewis Reed, Jamie Yates, Terry Pugh, Charles O’Barr and Johnathan O’Barr.

Carl Hubbell Lee

Mr. Carl Hubbell Lee, age 77 of Century, passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 30, 2014.

Mr. Lee was a native of Georgiana, AL, and a resident of Century for 30 years coming from McDavid. Mr. Lee was a veteran of the United States Navy and was retired from the Escambia County Florida School Board system. He was a member of Ray’s Chapel and was preceded in death by his parents, Early Ernest and Mittie Bass Lee, Sr.; brother, Early Lee, Jr; and son, Christopher Lee.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Shelia Seals Lee of Century; daughters, Elizabeth Lee of Brewton, Stephanie Lee of Flomaton, Tammy (Burt)Williams of Auburn, and Renee Hullet of Flomaton; brother, Bobby Joe Lee of Flomaton; sister, Catherine Lewis of North Carolina; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and special family friend, Lisa Nicholls.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 1, 2014, at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel beginning at 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. with Rev. Nathan Brown officiating.

Interment will follow in Ray’s Chapel Cemetery in Bogia.

Pallbearers will be Zack Carter, Trey Weeks, Kenny Coleman, Woody Daw, Robby Lee and Cody Williams.

Lynn Driver

July 31, 2014

Lynn Driver, age 48, a native of Walnut Hill and resident of Loxley, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014. Mrs. Driver was a member of the Walnut Hill Baptist Church. She loved the beach, was an Auburn fan, coached little league baseball and was a licensed real estate agent. She loved her boys. She was preceded in death by her sister, Lisa Ann Littles.

She is survived by her husband, Stephen Smith; children, Reid Carrillo, A J Sappenfield, J D Sappenfield, and Justice Smith all of Loxley; parents, Jimmy and Carol Ann Driver of Loxley; two sisters, Lana Elizabeth Pulido of Loxley and Dr. Lucinda Lea Parmer of Cincinnati, OH; and brother, Lloyd Driver of Dania Beach, FL.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 2, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Walnut Hill Baptist Church. The family will begin receiving friends at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Walnut Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 5741 Arthur Brown Rd, McDavid, FL 32568.

Abbie Gail Reader

Abbie Gail Reader, 92, of Pensacola, died on Wednesday, July 30, 2014. She was born on August 6, 1921, in Molino to the late Clyde and Elizabeth Hardy Harris. She lived in Panama City Beach for most of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Edward “Sonny” Reader, Jr.; parents; two sisters, Mildred Fillingim and Vonnie Morgan; two brothers, Bill and Luther Harris; and one stepson, Richard Reader.

Abbie is survived by two step-children, Cathy (John) Scott and William (Suzanne) Reader; sister-in-law, Wren (Donald) Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Grandview Assisted Living for all their care and love to Abbie.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2014, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Pastor Pam Avery officiating.

Inurnment will be held at a later date in Panama City next to her late husband, Sonny, at Kent Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Reverend Thomas “Ed” Barnes

One of God’s finest, Rev. Thomas “Ed” Barnes, 82, of Pensacola, took his final steps to meet the Lord Jesus Christ on Monday evening.

Known as the “Boy Preacher” in his early teenage years traveling a five county area in NW Florida to spread the word, this Man of God went on to become a minister for the past 65 years. Starting with Reedy Assembly of God in Westville, FL, 1948-1951; Alford Assembly of God in Alford, FL, 1951-1953; he attended Southeastern Bible College, 1953-1955; Alford Assembly of God, 1955-1960; Bratt Assembly of God in Bratt, 1960-1970; Jordan Street Assembly of God in Pensacola, 1977 and Faith Temple Assembly of God in Pensacola, 1978-1988. But one of his proudest accomplishments was done later on in life when he kept spreading the word on a weekly basis to the elderly and shut-ins around the area in elderly facilities and homes who were not able to attend church and helped with the homeless. He preached his last sermon on May 4, 2014 at Brentwood Assembly of God.

He was a lifelong carpenter who also went on to retire from New York Life Insurance and Whitney Bank.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Berniece Yon Barnes; parents, Troy and Janie Barnes; and his brothers, Lester and Azell Barnes.

Survivors include his sons, Richard Barnes (Ann), Randall Barnes (Deborah) and David Barnes (Vicki) all of Pensacola; his siblings, Gerethea Wise of Pensacola, Betty Bildner of Osseo, MI, and Frankie Barnes (Meryl) of Kynesville, FL; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; as well as in-laws and many nieces, nephews and his beloved pet and buddy, Charlie.

Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, August 1, 2014, at Brentwood Assembly of God in Pensacola. Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Brentwood Assembly of God with Pastors Kenneth Martin, Ron Carnley and James Vickery officiating. Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum.

Pallbearers will be Roger Barnes, Jason Barnes, Billy Latham, Robert Stuck, Darryl Bildner, Eric Wise, Mark Mills, Clay Mills, Steve Finch and James Kristie.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bill McLeod and the Brentwood Men’s Fellowship.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brentwood Men’s Fellowship, Brentwood Breakfast Fund, 4901 N. Palafox St., Pensacola, FL 32505.

The family would like to thank special friend, Dr. Fleischhauer, the staff at Baptist Hospital 4-West, ICU Unit, PCU Unit and very special thanks to Laurie.

Virginia Davis Mason Comer

Virginia Davis Mason Comer passed away July 28, 2014. She was born on April 9, 1927, in Atmore to Vera and Nathaniel E. Davis. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Aubrey; and sister, Mildred Ward. She is also preceded her death by her first husband, Quentin C. Mason, father of her son, Kenny Mason; her second husband, Harold Comer and step- daughter, Janie Carr.

She is survived by her son, Kenny Mason (Elaine); grandsons, Jacob D. Mason (Chelle) of Raleigh, NC, Adam W. Mason and Joshua J. Mason (Sarah) of Pensacola; and seven great-grandchildren; two step-children, Audrey Gabbard of Tampa and Hubert Comer (Marilyn) of Smyrna, TN; step son-in-law, Howard Carr (Deabron) of Baker and seven step-grandchildren. She was a member of Old Ty Ty Primitive Baptist Church near Moultrie, GA.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Johnson Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore at 2 p.m. with Elders Harold Brown and Mike Johnson officiating.

Interment will follow in Pine Barren Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Josh Mason, Jake Mason, Hunter Mason, Bo Bartley, Howard Carr and Ricky Skaggs.

Robert Willard Faircloth, Sr.

Robert Willard Faircloth, Sr. 84 of Atmore passed away July 27, 2014, in Atmore. He was born June 6, 1930, in Atmore to the late Mack Edward, Sr. and Bessie Taylor Faircloth. He was a graduate of Escambia County High School and a member of the “Barnes Boys.” He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He owned and operated through the years Faircloth Grocery Store, Ponderosa Drive-In, Quick Chic, Church’s Chicken and David’s Catfish House. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Atmore.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Mack Edward Faircloth, Jr. and George Taylor Faircloth; his wife, Mary Lou Faircloth Wiggins and his second wife, Frankie Faircloth.

He is survived by his children, Robert W. “Rob” (Sheilo) Faircloth, Jr. and Mary Bess Faircloth (Buck) Powell, all of Atmore and Lisa Faircloth (Pat) Busby of Jackson, MS; grandchildren, Dr. Mark Faircloth (Katie) Powell, Robert McLemore Busby, Andrew Powell Busby, Edgar Ross Busby, Mary Catherine Faircloth (Owen) Moore and Robert Elliott Faircloth; and great-grandchildren, Adeline Elizabeth Moore, Leah Catherine Moore, Audrey Evans Moore, Emma Kathlyn Powell and Robert Reeves Powell.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 11 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church of Atmore with Rev. Deborah Bishop officiating.

Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be his grandsons. Dr. Mark Faircloth Powell, Robert McLemore Busby, Robert Elliott Faircloth, Edgar Ross Busby, Andrew Powell Busby and Owen Harrison Moore.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2014 from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church of Atmore.
