Stephen Edward Ross

Mr. Stephen Edward Ross, age 56 of Century, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2014, at Jay Hospital.

Mr. Ross was born in Atmore but had been a lifetime member of the Flomaton and Century communities where he worked for the Town of Century as the Water Waste/Water Superintendent. Mr. Ross was a member of Little Escambia Baptist Church and is preceded in death by his parents, Edward A. and Jean Boutwell Ross.

He is survived by his wife, DeAnna Parker Ross of Century; sons, Parker (Tara) Ross of Auburn, Brian Ross of Century, and Jesse Ross of Birmingham; sisters, Sheila (Scott) Emmons of Flomaton, Debbie (Roger) Hayes of Jay, and Robin (Scott) Feutz of San Diego, CA; brother, Robert Tims of Century; and second mom, Mae Carter of Century.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Little Escambia Baptist Church from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2014, at Little Escambia Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Doug Hogg officiating.

Interment will follow in Rock Cemetery in Flomaton.

Pallbearers will be Justin Emmons, Robert Tims, Sedrick Lowry, Joe Brown, Billy Watson, Larry Murphy, Bobby Simpson and Mike Brown.

Kay Scherffius Crabtree

October 10, 2014

Kay Scherffius Crabtree passed away at her home in Barrineau Park, after a long battle with lung cancer on Thursday, October 9, 2014. She was born January 18, 1958, in Pensacola.
She is preceded in death by her father, Richard “Skippy” Scherffius; and son, Austin Clay Crabtree.

She is survived by her mother, Mary “Rusty” Stewart; her husband of 31 years, Monte Crabtree; children, Kacee (Jon) Andrews, Taylor (Creda) Crabtree, Brandie Crabtree (Juan Garcia), Colton Crabtree and Nikki (Daniel) Kelley; six grandchildren, Jasmine, Jillian, Jacob, Ayden, Garrett and Ryleigh; and two siblings, Sue (Wayne) Butts and Richard “Ricky” Scherffius Jr.

Kay devoted her life to her children, grandchildren and anyone in need. Everyone who she met loved her because of her kind heart and generous spirit. She has spent many years volunteering at the local schools and baseball fields to support her children and grandchildren. She was always willing to have a conversation with anyone, she never met a stranger. She was loved by all of her children and their friends whom she welcomed into the family’s home as if they were her own children. She had a strong will and positive attitude throughout her life bringing joy to everyone around her even during her battle with cancer.

Visitation will be at Faith Chapel North on Sunday, October 12, 2014, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 13, 2014, at the funeral home with Pastor Wayne Butts officiating.

Burial will follow in Little Pine Barren Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Kelley, Juan Garcia, Louis Crabtree Jr., Conner Scherffius, Larry Girdner and Kelly Crabtree.

Harold “Teeny” McKinley Kendrick

October 9, 2014

Harold “Teeny” McKinley Kendrick, 74, of Foley, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2014. Harold grew up in Wyoming and Colorado and graduated from Lewis Palmer High School in Monument, CO. He married Mary Maxine Oakes on July 1, 1961, and worked for the U.S. Forest Service. They then moved to Dover, FL where he worked for G.E. Telephone Company and graduated from the University of South Florida. More recently, he retired from MHK Corporation in Russellville, AR and previously was part owner of Continental Timber Company in Valley Center, KS. He and Maxine moved to Foley upon retirement. He was a member and deacon at Galilee Primitive Baptist Church in Stapleton, AL.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William “Bill” and Ruth Kendrick; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Ed Anderson; and sister, Hazel Colvin.

Harold is survived by his wife, Mary Maxine Kendrick; daughters, Beth Ann (Ed) Kingsley and Christie (Steve) Hansell; grandchildren, Joshua (Amanda) Glaze and Jenna Glaze; great-grandchildren, Emma and McKinley Glaze and J.B. and Caleb Mott; nieces and nephews, Pam Jones Williams, Kaye (Darrell) Maez, Wendi Maez, Debbie (Mike) East, Harold (Tammy) Oakes, Kenneth (Tonya) Oakes, Phil Oakes, Penny Colvin Garren, Bill Colvin and Alan Colvin; and uncles, Bob (Laura) Glasspoole and Bill Glasspoole.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2014, at Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Molino with Elder Bobby Willis officiating.

Pallbearers will be Ed Kingsley, Harold, Phil, and Kenneth Oakes, Mike East and Joshua Glaze.

Honorary pallbearer will be Derrick Oakes.

William Henry Brown

October 8, 2014

William Henry Brown, 75 of Canoe, passed away Tuesday, October 7, in Pensacola. He was a longtime employee of Swift Supply in Atmore. He was born in Washington County (AL) on September 20, 1939, to the late Elmer and Agnes Adkinson Brown. He was a member of Sardis Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, June Brown of Canoe; children, Ryan (Charla) Brown of Pensacola, Lindsey Brown of Atmore, Shannon (Alyssa) Teal of Chattanooga, TN, Pam (Danny) Hall of Atmore and Chris (Mark) Shannon of Gulf Shores. He was a very beloved “Pops” to seven grandchildren, Caitlin and Kyndall Hall, Taylor and Jon Shannon, Leyton and Abi Teal and Daylan Brown. He is also survived by his brother, Jimmy (Jill) Brown of Milton; niece, Kimberly Mapoles; nephew, Jimmy Lynn Brown; and numerous extended family and friends.

Services will be Friday, October 10, 2014, at 2 p.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with his first cousin, Pastor Sonny Scarbrough, officiating.

Interment will follow in Sardis Baptist Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Mark Shannon, Taylor Shannon, Jon Shannon, Danny Hall, Shannon Teal, Leyton Teal.

George Wesley Hauer

Mr. George Wesley Hauer, 66, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2014, in Flomaton,

Mr. Hauer was a native of Natchez, MS and a lifelong resident of Flomaton. Mr. Hauer was a master mason. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army as a Combat Medic in Vietnam, where he received the Silver Star. His parents precede him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Vicki M. Hauer of Flomaton; one son, Justin Craft of Jackson, MS; three daughters, Shay (Kenneth) Willamson of Ridgeland, MS, Dana (Mike) Byrd of Brandon, MS and Nicki (Alan) Balentine of Sterling, VA; three grandchildren, Zachary Byrd, Kenneth Hauer Williamson and Charlotte Reese Balentine.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 9, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Father Cook officiating.

Burial will follow at the Alabama State Veterans Cemetery in Spanish Fort.

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 9, 2014, from 10 a.m. until service time at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Ann Hardy Sims

Mrs. Ann Hardy Sims, 72, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2014, in Pensacola.

Mrs. Sims was a native of Bratt and a resident of Century for most of her life. Mrs. Sims was a loving wife, beloved mother, precious granny and generous friend to all. She was known by her big heart. She was member of the Century First Baptist Church. Her parents, Jim and Vera Hardy and brother, Buddy Hardy precede her in death.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Ronnie Sims of Century; one son, Randy Sims of Century; three daughters, Ronda (Hutch) Hutchison of Pensacola, Paula (Greg) Fabbro of Pensacola and Donna (Michael) Ishee of Pace; and seven grandchildren, Hannah Fabbro, Colton Sims, Dylan Sims, Hayden Sims, Madeleine Hutchison and Emily and Caleb Ishee.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 10, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Father Ron Browning officiating.

Burial will follow at the Godwin Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 9, 2014, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Paul Martin Upton

Mr. Paul Martin Upton, age 26 of Century, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 5, 2014, at Jay Hospital after a tragic accident.

Mr. Upton was a native of Milton, and a long time resident of the Century community where he was a member and usher of Pilgrim’s Lodge Baptist Church in Century.

He is survived by his mother and step-father, Sandra (Frank)Rich of Pensacola; his father and step-mother, Marty (Sharabeth) Upton of Texas; maternal grandmother, Kate Bondurant of Century; step-grandmother, Beth Rich of Pensacola; brother, John Curtis Upton; step-brother, Chris Rich; nieces, Maria Sears Upton and Asa Sharrif of Orlando; uncle, John G. Upton of Farmers Branch, TX; and numerous relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2014, at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cary Gilbert and Rev. Robert Barrow officiating.

Interment will follow in Pollard Cemetery in Flomaton.

Tina Vickery-Orso was born July 3, 1956, and went to be with our Lord and Savior on October 3, 2014.

Visitation for Tina will be held at Highland Baptist Church, located at 6420 Hwy 95A in Molino, on Saturday, October 11, 2014, from 1o a.m. – 11 a.m. Funeral services will immediately following at 11:00 a.m.

Leonard “Blue Gill” McCurdy

October 7, 2014

Mr. Leonard ‘Blue Gill’ McCurdy, age 94 of Century, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2014, at Century Health and Rehabilitation Center in Century.

Mr. McCurdy was a native and lifetime member of the Century community where he worked as a truck driver in the transportation business. He was a member of the Church of Christ and was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Mildred McCurdy; their daughter, Jean Grantham; and granddaughter, Grayton Karleigh Creekbaum.

Survivors include his daughter, Ginger (Charles) Rumbley of Pensacola; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later time by Mr. McCurdy’s family.

Stephen “Buck” Hubbard

October 7, 2014

Mr. Stephen “Buck” Hubbard, Jr. 86 of Nokomis (AL) passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2014. Mr. Hubbard was a United States Army veteran and served during the Korean War. He retired from civil service where he worked at Brookley Field in Mobile and Naval Air Station in Pensacola. He was a member of Nokomis Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Laura Mae Hubbard; sister, Sally Tucker; and his wife, Pauline Brantley Hubbard.

Mr. Hubbard is survived by his sister, Margaret Johnson; his brother, Wayne (Linda) Hubbard all of Nokomis; nieces and nephews, Todd (Samantha) Hubbard, Brayden Hubbard and Taylor Hubbard all of Nokomis, Ralph (Judy) Tucker, Steve Tucker, Stephen Curtis Tucker, Nicholas Tucker, Terri Tucker and Ethan Tucker all of Knoxville, TN.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, October 7, 2014, from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. C.L. Langford and Rev. James Hill officiating.

Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery with military honors.

Active pallbearers were Todd Hubbard, Brayden Hubbard, Ralph Tucker, Stephen Curtis Tucker, Nicholas Tucker and Michael Hadley.
