Billy Vasco Bray

Billy Vasco Bray, age 78 of Jay, was called home September 5, 2014. Billy was born April 1, 1936, in Jay to Charlie and Bertie Bray.

He married the love of his life, Helen Cobb in 1961. He believed in hard work and worked for Kerr-McGee, Agrico, owner of Jay Farm Supply, and finally retired after working for Santa Rosa County Road Department in 2005. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and family man. He enjoyed farming, clearing land, raising cattle and hogs, and family gatherings. A loving husband, father, and was known to his grandchildren as Pa, Pawie, and Poppy.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Helen and three children, Roger (Carol) Bray, Bart (Terry) Bray, and Sherry (Eric) Steadham; eight grandchildren, Bradley (Ashley) Bray; Arissa, Paige, Kolby Bray; Amber, Samantha Steadham; Carrie (Dante) Longo; and Rachael Bray; three great-grandchildren, Hollee, Brooklee, and Chandlor Bray; and sisters, Patsy Fulmore and Joann Bray.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Bertie Bray; sister, Peggy Clifford; and brother, Steve Bray. He is gone but will never be forgotten.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the loving and compassionate care provided by Century Health and Rehab and Covenant Hospice. Flowers welcome or donations to Covenant Hospice Milton Branch can be made in his memory.

Active pallbearers are Greg Levins, Randy Fulmore, Doug Fulmore, Derek Bray, Rodney Rhodes, Dante Longo, Ivan Hendricks, and Gary Hagler.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Watson, Charles Steadham, Jimmy Jones, Joe Jones, Shorty Floyd, Rufus Godwin, and Bill Clifford.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 7, 2014, at Jay Funeral Home with Brother Clifford Dixon and Brother Jim Lassiter officiating.

Burial was at Cobbtown Cemetery.

Mazie Lee Rolin

September 8, 2014

Mazie Lee Rolin, 90 of Brewton, passed away Friday, September 5, 2014. in Pensacola. She was a homemaker, born in Atmore on September 6,1923, to the late Dewitt and Olivia Dewise McCoy. She was a charter member of Poarch Baptist Church; a former member of The Escambia County Alabama Baptist Association; and a member of The Poarch Band Of Creek Indians.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Rolin; two daughters, Daisy Rolin and Rosemary Presley.

Survivors include granddaughter, Angie Rolin (Jack “Whiddon”) Taylor of Brewton; great-grandson, Brandon Rolin Taylor of Brewton; step-great-grandchildren, Jack Taylor, III of Irvington, Ala., and Patricia Taylor of Honolulu, Hawaii.

Services were held Monday, September 8, 2014, at the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Rob Arant officiating.

Interment was in Poarch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Callie Mae Lee

September 8, 2014

Mrs. Callie Mae Lee, age 68 of Flomaton, passed away Friday, September 5, 2014, in a Century nursing facility.

Mrs. Lee was born in Brewton and was a lifetime resident of Escambia County (Ala). She was a homemaker and was a member of the Brewton Pentecostal Holiness Church.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 41 years, Mr. Glenn Lee of Flomaton; three sons, Larry Dwayne Lee and Shane Glenn (Renee) Lee ,all of Flomaton and William Randy (Tone) Lee of Brewton; two brothers, Thomas Byrd of Flomaton and Robert Byrd of Mobile; and ten grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Monday, September 8, 2014, from the chapel of Craver’s Funeral Home with Rev. Byrnes Pitts officiating.

Interment was in Pollard Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jeff Alexandria, Mark Greenwell, Tim Ward, Ray Lee, Rodney Stuart, and Don Bondurant.

Eric “Henry” Amos

Dr. Eric “Henry” Amos, age 72, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 1, 2014, at his home in Molino.

Henry was born on “a day of infamy”, December 7, 1941. He was raised in Baton Rouge, LA where he attended Catholic High School. He went to college at LSU and finished medical school at LSU in New Orleans. He completed a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, TN. He then completed a residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL, where he became Chief Resident and was honored with the “Superior Accomplishment Award” and the “Best Resident’s Paper Award”.

After completing his training in 1971, he accepted a position with the Medical Center Clinic in Pensacola, FL, where he practiced for more than 30 years and treated almost 15,000 patients. While in private practice, Henry published several papers in prestigious medical journals on various topics including new radiation techniques for head and neck cancer, pioneering breast conservation therapy, and the use of radiation for colon cancer. He was awarded the Honor of “Fellow” of the American College of Radiology, which is awarded to less than 20% of all Radiation Oncologists. He was a long-standing member of the American College of Radiation Oncology, the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology, the Florida Radiological Society, the American Medical Association, and the Florida Medical Association. He was selected as one of “The Best Doctors in America” by each: American Health, Woodward White Publishers, and Good Housekeeping Magazine.

During his medical practice, he designed and developed five radiation facilities in the region. He also personally purchased one of the first linear accelerators, a machine used to deliver high-energy radiation for treating patients, in private practice in the United States.

Henry attempted to retire multiple times, but an intense love of medicine and care for his patients brought him back to active clinical practice a total of five times. He returned to practice with 21st Century Oncology in Okaloosa County, the Cancer Center of Southern Alabama, Urology Partners of Lakewood Ranch, FL, Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, as well as joining the staff at the University of Florida Radiation Oncology Department where he headed the Radiation Pediatric Oncology Section.

His personal interests included sculpting, drawing, and writing poetry and books. His most recent publications include: “A Few Poems Along the Way”, “My Mother’s Soul”, “My First 30 Years”, and “An Outline of the History of Western Philosophy”. He enjoyed pecan farming (cultivating over 2000 trees), breeding Limousine Cattle, upland bird hunting, the Colorado mountains, and especially the waters of the Gulf Coast where he spent countless hours exploring, boating and fishing. In his younger years he had his private pilot’s license and participated in several triathlons.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda Jo (Adams) Amos of Molino; children, Warren Richard Amos of Destin, Frances Corrine Amos of New York, NY, and Stacey Leigh Mason of Pensacola; five grandchildren including Haleigh Jo Mason (21), Eric Berton Amos (21), Mack Selser Amos (17), Ella Elizabeth Amos (12), and Savannah Leigh Amos (18 mo). He is also survived by his brothers, Wayne Amos of Baton Rouge, LA and Augusta Martin Smith; two sisters, Hilda McBride of Alexandria, LA and Louise Enochs of Lexington, KY; daughter-in-law, Shannon Leach Amos of Destin; brother-in-law, Mike Adams of Pensacola; brother- and sister-in-law, Mark and Karen Adams of Pensacola; and numerous nephews, nieces, friends, and colleagues.

He was predeceased by his mother, Corrine “Macu” Voorhies Smith of Baton Rouge; his stepfather, Warren “Pops” Smith of Baton Rouge; and his father, Ralph Wayne Amos of Houston, TX.

A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, September 6, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Faith Chapel North Funeral Home in Cantonment.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Northwest Florida and the American Cancer Society are appreciated.

Ronald Wayne Johnson

Mr. Ronald Wayne Johnson, 63, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2014, in Bluff Springs.

Mr. Johnson was a native of Reedley, California and a resident of Bluff Springs since 1976. Mr. Johnson was a former gospel musician (guitar player). His grandparents, Robert & Maggie Johnson of Century and Levi and Aley Johnson of Marysville, CA precede him in death.

Survivors include his parents, Aubrey and Rosa Johnson of Bluff Springs; one brother, David (Jackie) Johnson of Bratt; one sister, Alice (Dee) Bennett of Panama City, FL; one nephew, Dale (Karen) Johnson of Pace; one great-nephew, Nathanael Johnson of Pace; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He leaves behind his special friends, Nick and Teressa Emmert of Pensacola.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 1, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Stott and Bro. Dale Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow at the McCurdy Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Nick, Emmert, Dusty Richardson, Darrin Merchant, Ken Johnson, Dale Johnson and Robert Gandy.

Irwin Randall Barlow

Mr. Irwin Randall Barlow, 66, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2014, in Bratt.

Mr. Barlow was a native of Walnut Hill and a resident of Bratt for the past 10 years. Mr. Barlow was an avid outdoorsman, fisher and hunter. He is preceded in death by his lifetime fishing buddy, Buddy Crews.

He is survived by his companion, Debra Crenshaw of Atmore; two brothers, Travis (Debra) Barlow of Soperton, GA and Gilbert T. “Buddy” (Linda) Barlow of Walnut Hill; one sister, Gayle (Ronnie) Martin of Atmore; one aunt, Bobbi Jones of Atmore; five nieces, two nephews, six great nieces, seven great nephews and two great-great nieces.

Memorial services for Mr. Barlow will be announced at a later date.

Clara L. Stacey

September 2, 2014

Clara L. Stacey, 83 of McCullough, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2014, at her residence. She was a homemaker born in Escambia County, Fla., on May 13, 1931, to the late Beddie Edward and Annie Singleton Conway. She was a member of the Atmore Church of God.

She is preceded in death by daughters, Linda Jane Stacey and Nelda Christine Pistorcich; grandson, Allen Pistorcich; three sisters; and five brothers.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Charles Stacey; one son, Charles “Buddy” (Lisa) Stacey all of McCullough; two daughters, Marie (Ross) Brown of Perdido and Betty (Michael) Smith of Atmore; two brothers, Winston (Helen) Conway and Ray Conway all of Pensacola; two sisters, Joyce (Howard) Neal of Excel and Kathyrin (Ralph) Drew of Atmore; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Monday, September 1, 2014, at 2 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Glenn Bryars officiating.

Interment will follow in McCullough Cemetery.

Active pallbearers are Daniel Biggs, David Pistorcich, Korey Biggs, Clayton Stacey, River Watson , and Roger Hadley.

Yvonne Marques Bledsoe

Yvonne Marques Bledsoe, 78 of Cantonment, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2014.

Mrs. Bledsoe was born on January 17, 1936, in Wilmington, DE to the late Edwin and Isabel Marques. She lived most of her childhood years in Silver Spring, MD with her family.She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Cantonment where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She loved crocheting, playing the piano and animals.

Mrs. Bledsoe is survived by her husband, James; two daughters, Kathleen (Gary) McCulloch and Barbara Purvis; three granddaughters, Kristen (Brannon) Huckstep, Michelle McCulloch (Scott Truitt) and Jamie (Eric) Haynes; grandson, Matthew Purvis (Chelsea Bridges); and six great-grandsons.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 29, 2014, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Rev. Sanford Stanton officiating.

Burial was in Barrancas National Cemetery.

Sonya Dyess Fillingim

Mrs. Sonya Dyess Fillingim, 51, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2014, in Flomaton.

Mrs. Fillingim was a resident of Flomaton since 1995. Her husband, Neal Fillingim, precedes her in death.

She is survived by her parents, Mr.and Mrs. Wayne Dyess, of Jay; son, Cameron ( Sheena ) of Flomaton; sister, Wanda D. Joyner, of Jay; and two grandchildren, Bailey Fillingim and Adalyn Fillingim, both of Flomaton.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 31, 2014, from 6 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Monday, September 1, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Petty- Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Richburg and Rev. Fredrick Barrow officiating.

Burial will follow at the Christian Home Cemetery.

Sadie Hadley Johnson

Mrs. Sadie Hadley Johnson, 90, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2014, in Mobile.

Mrs. Johnson was a native of Stockton and a resident of Perdido for most of her life. Mrs. Johnson was a great mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She was a very loving and caring person. She was a member of the Lottie Baptist Church. Her husband, Doil Hadley and son, Glenn Hadley, precede her in death.

She is survived by two sons, Dallas (Carmer) Hadley of Perdido and Larry (Wanda) Hadley of Atmore; daughter-in-law, Lore Hadley of Perdido; one brother, Jerry Hall of Perdido; one sister, Myrtle Rutherford of Atmore; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services were held Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Pruitt officiating.

Burial was at the Lottie Methodist Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Gilbert Hadley, Tony Hadley, Mack Hadley, Leo Hadley, Dewayne Hall and Billy Wayne Donald.

Honorary pallbearer will be Nip Hadley.
