Emma Lou Patterson

Emma Lou Patterson, 82, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2014. She was born in Atmore on June 20, 1932, to the late Ralph and Nancy Moye Rutherford. She lived most of her adult life in Pensacola with her husband, Clarence “Sonny” Patterson. Together they had four children, who were her pride and joy.
She was preceded in death in 1994, by her first husband, Clarence and her granddaughter, Kelly Stallworth Horner.
Nanny, as she was lovingly called, is survived by her husband, Walter W. Patterson; four children, Carolyn (Fred) Stallworth, Sandra (Chico) Franklin, Sheila Waters; and Buddy (Yvette) Patterson; extended family, Patricia (Joel) Phillips and Carlos (Dawn) Patterson; five grandchildren, Chad Patterson, Matt Stallworth, Juanita Peace, Casey Patterson and Ashton Waters; five great-grandchildren and many, many friends that were like family.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at Faith Chapel North with Rev. Fred Stallworth officiating.
Burial will follow in Clear Springs Cemetery in Robertsdale.
Pallbearers will be Chad Patterson, Casey Patterson, Matt Stallworth, Ashton Waters, Fred Peace, and Carlos Patterson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Otis Rutherford, Joel Phillips, and Benjamin Eby.

Mr. Marvin Wesley Hayles, Jr., 59, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2014, in Atmore.
Mr. Hayles was a native of Atmore, former resident of Uriah (where he spent most of his life) and former resident of Bay Minette. He had resided in Atmore for the past year. His parents, Marvin and Myrtle Hayles, Sr.; one brother, Lee R. Hayles; and one sister, Mary Ann Moye precede him in death.
He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Marlowe Hayles of Birmingham; one brother, Henry (Donna) Hayles of Birmingham; and two sisters, Jean (Marion) Trawick and Pat (Barney) Singleton all of Atmore, AL.
Graveside services will be Thursday, August 7, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Uriah Cemetery with Rev. Glenn Webber officiating.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Infant Austin Wayne Lavon Munro, born October 28, 2013, died on August 3, 2014, in Georgia.
Austin Wayne Lavon Munro was a native of Pensacola and lifelong resident of Waverly Hall, GA. His great-grandfather Wayne Forbus and cousins Alana Blanca Burgess, Micah Forbus and Cazzie Forbus precede him in death.
Survivors include his parents Chris and Amber Munro of Waverly Hall, GA; grandparents, Greg and Suzy Odom of Jay, Shelia Haden of Waverly Hall, GA, Therese Ellis of Jay and David Munro of Charlotte, NC, great-grandparents, Roy and Agnes Odom of Flomaton and Janice Forbus of Montgomery, godmother Rebecca Osbon and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Earle Greene and Rev. Mitch Herring officiating.
Burial will follow at the Sardis Cemetery.

Patricia Ann Kirby Eddins

Patricia Kirby Eddins, born September 19, 1949, died in University Hospital, Little Rock, Arkansas on July 31, 2014.
Pat, a native of Atmore, was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Rayford Kirby and Ruth Hood Kirby.
She is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Kim Eddins; three grandchildren, Kirby Eddins, Patrick Hammonds and Madison Hammonds; two brothers, David Kirby and Tommy (Aline) Kirby; aunts, Grace McCrory and Hazel Hicks.
Diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 1991, Pat began her long journey of experimental treatments in hopes to find a cure for herself, and those patients coming after her. The first patient from Alabama to begin treatment in Little Rock, Pat pioneered the fight for Alabama insurance companies to cover costs associated with treatment in Little Rock and for the University Hospital to accept payment from Alabama insurance companies. Pat paved the way for hundreds of Alabama residents to receive treatment in Arkansas. Pat was a lover of sports – especially Auburn Football, and tennis. Pat was proud of winning the City Champion award in tennis. A lover of people, Pat joined the staff of The First National Bank of Atmore in 1976, and worked for over 30 years. During that time, Pat organized all bank events, advertising, and led the First National Bank Travel Club, giving many customers the opportunity to travel to places they may not have otherwise had the chance to visit. A lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Atmore, Pat was a Sunday School teacher for the young children for many, many years. She followed these children throughout their life, showering them with love and guidance. Upon retirement from teaching, First Baptist Church awarded Pat the Lifetime Achievement award for her many years of service. Pat was a member of the American Cancer Society and for over ten years was the highest individual fund raiser for Relay for Life. She was a tireless volunteer, and counseled numerous newly-diagnosed cancer patients. Always with a smile and words of encouragement, Pat believed that life was worth living to the fullest, and everyone should take advantage of any opportunity offered to them. A lover of butterflies and flowers, Pat was a member and former president of the Atmore Garden Club, and was instrumental in helping Atmore obtain the beautiful hanging plants located on Main Street. Her latest hobby was raising butterflies in her back yard.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 5, 2014, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Atmore.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Atmore with Rev. Arnold Hendrix and Rev. Kelly Brown officiating.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Hammonds, Kirby Eddins, Jason Kirby, Wade Kirby, Ricky McCrory, Rusty Hicks, Marcus Hood and Bob Hood.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Atmore Garden Club.
Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Atmore.

Annie R. Bell, 81 of Atmore, passed away Sunday August 3, 2014, at her residence.She was retired from A.C. Moore School as a dietitian. She was born on November 27, 1932, in Moyeville, AL to the late Drew Thomas and Catherine Susann Robertson Moye. She was a member of Presley Street Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd A. Bell; siblings, Oscar Moye, Cleveland Moye, Mary Lambeth, Lee Daw, Allie Daw, Ellen Emmons, Oloa Daw, Lula Wiggins, Belle Kennedy, and Cassie Wooten.
Survivors include three sons, Damon (Glenda) Bell of Atmore, Donald Bell of Furman, AL and Dempsey Bell of Braggs, AL; one daughter, Arieta (Joe) Walker of Atmore; one sister,Pearl Martin of Martinville; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at 10 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Donald Bell and Bro. Dempsey Bell officiating.
Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

John Wesley Sales Jr., 81, of Monroeville passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2014, at his residence.
He was born on December 29, 1932, and grew up in the Flomaton-Century area of Escambia County. He was married on January 9, 1955, to the former Willean Bondurant. They celebrated 59 years of marriage on January 9, 2014.
He began his career in the automobile business on November 14, 1954, selling Plymouths and Desotos in Mobile. On January 1, 1962, he started JW Sales, Inc., a used car business in Century. In September 1966, he purchased Sales Ford, Inc. in Monroeville and later, in November 2002, purchased a second dealership, Sales Ford Lincoln-Mercury Inc., in Grove Hill.
He believed that selling was an attitude and that you must have the right attitude to achieve success. He sought to incorporate a strong pride in church, family, community and country into his business; this was the foundation in which he built his business on.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley Sales Sr. and Lula Boutwell Sales; one brother, James Sales; one granddaughter, Emily Claire Brewer; and one grandson, Dillon Keith Jordan.
Mr. Sales is survived by his wife, Willean Bondurant Sales of Monroeville; two sons, John Wesley (Rosalyn) Sales III and James William (Vanessa) Sales Sr., both of Monroeville; two daughters, Janiece Sales (Jeff) Brewer of Huntsville and Diane Sales (Robert) Lindsey of Gulf Breeze; one sister, Dorothy Johnson of Flomaton; three brothers, Barnie (Betty) Sales of Mobile, Donald (Brenda) Sales of Flomaton and Carl (Celia) Dole of Eufaula; 14 grandchildren, James William Sales Jr., Christopher Brandon Sales, Jennifer Irene Sales, Kimberly Nicole Sales, John Wesley Sales IV, Brooke Lindsey Hydrick, Kathryn Brewer Gallaway, Stephanie Sales Pruett, Charles Robert Lindsey Jr., Ashley Marie Brewer Jinright, Brandon James Lindsey, Rebecca Lynn Sales, Lauren Michelle Brewer and Jonathan Lavaughn Sales; six great-grandchildren, Judah Steven Del Gallo, Meredith Elizabeth Sales, Alexa Kinsley Rain Gallaway, Elayne Marie Sales, Sophie Olivia Claire Gallaway and Caleb Mitchell Hydrick; and four step great-grandchildren, Madison Pruett, Houstyn Pruett, Kylie Brown and Gianna Del Gallo.

Margaret E. Sanders

Margaret E. Sanders was born in Big Springs, TX ,on March 25, 1934, to Paul Stadler Ellis and Mazzie Wright Ellis. She passed away on July 19, 2014. She was a 1952 graduate of Tate High School.
She married James D. Sanders on Feb. 28 1960, whom she leaves behind after 54 years of marriage.They reared four sons, Kenneth M. Sanders, Robert C. Sanders, Carl D. Sanders, and Byron J. Sanders in the Elsanor community where she was also active in volunteering. After retiring from a lengthy civil service career with the Naval Aviation Depot in Pensacola where she served with the public affairs officer, she continued to work for the Providence Family Medical Center. She shared a love for decorating cakes, writing stories, painting, and sewing with family and friends.
Her siblings and she were very close; Alvin D. Ellis preceeds her in death. She is survived by siblings Paula E. Nighbert of Hilliard, FL, Charles E. Ellis of Cantonment, and James Ellis of Fredericksburg, Texas; 10 grandchildren who called her “Gink”, Thomas, Hannah, Marrah, Joseph, Aaron, Emily, Adam, Maria, Curry, and Robert Jr.
She was a long-time member of Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church in Molino and loved to sing from the “old school hymnal”.

Mr. Herman Black, 86, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2014, in Pensacola.
Mr. Black was a native of Canoe and resident of Atmore for most of his life. Mr. Black was member of the Atmore VFW post and attended the Canoe Methodist Church. His parents, Presley and Pearl Black; and brother, William Billy Black, precede him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Black of Atmore; two sons, Butch (Glenda) Black of Atmore and Tal (Embee) Black of Bay Minette; one daughter, Suzan (David) Amos of Atmore; one brother, Jerry (Barbara) Black of Clayton, NC; seven grandchildren, Chris Black, Chad Black, Shawn Amos, Nicholas Plash, Brandon Amos, Cody Black and Kelby Amos; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Canoe Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Watts and Larry Renfroe officiating.
Burial was at the Canoe Methodist Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tommy Young, Blake Young, Freddy Lambeth, Thomas Guy, Jimmy Lee and Johnny Lee Jones.

Susan Dianne Waters Bryant went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 27, 2014.
She was born on December 7, 1952, to Oscar Waters and Gladys M. Johnson.
Dianne was a resident of Cantonment and had worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at West Florida Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Regina Dianne Ferguson; father, Oscar Ellis Waters; and step-father, Bill Johnson.
Dianne is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Greenhill; sons, David (Kelly) Bryant and Johnny Bryant; mother, Gladys M. Johnson; sisters, Sharon Giraud and family and Linda Waymire and family; brother, David Shirey; granddaughters, Taylor Ferguson (Matt Flota) and Annie (Ryan) Normand; grandsons, Michael Ferguson (Angel Golden), Ellis Merchant, Austin Tanton (Breann Bellizzi), Dylan Bryant (Shawna Rose) and River Bryant; great-grandchildren, Kamden Ferguson, Wyatt Normand and Skye Tanton.
Dianne was loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Lottie Lee “McGhee” Daughtry Duerst, 82, passed away August 1, 2014, in Poarch.
Lottie was born in Poarch on September 23, 1931. She was a former resident of Mobile and a resident of Atmore for the past 15 years. Lottie was a proud member of the Poarch community where she spent most of her life nurturing her family traditions and native heritage. She was a proud member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. She was preceded in death by her father, Luther McGhee; mother, Girlie Rolin; son, Autrey Delane Daughtry; brother, Richard McGhee; and sisters, Leola Manac, Bessie O’Barr, and Linda Gail Parker.
Lottie is survived by two brothers, Buford Rolin and William Rolin; four daughters, Shelia (Joe) Lowe, Glenda McCaw, and Sarah Rone all of Poarch and Annette Roberts of Daphne; two sons, Andy Wayne Daughtry and William Todd Daughtry both of Poarch; 12 grandchildren, Valerie Daughtry Fuller, Ashley Lowe, Stacey Lowe, Tracey Lowe, Brandon Manac, Lindsey Manac, Misty Manac, Jim Roberts, Amanda Roberts, Shane Daughtry, Melissa Loper, and Leslie Albritton and 23 great-grandchildren.
