Ann Hardy Sims

Mrs. Ann Hardy Sims, 72, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2014, in Pensacola.

Mrs. Sims was a native of Bratt and a resident of Century for most of her life. Mrs. Sims was a loving wife, beloved mother, precious granny and generous friend to all. She was known by her big heart. She was member of the Century First Baptist Church. Her parents, Jim and Vera Hardy and brother, Buddy Hardy precede her in death.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Ronnie Sims of Century; one son, Randy Sims of Century; three daughters, Ronda (Hutch) Hutchison of Pensacola, Paula (Greg) Fabbro of Pensacola and Donna (Michael) Ishee of Pace; and seven grandchildren, Hannah Fabbro, Colton Sims, Dylan Sims, Hayden Sims, Madeleine Hutchison and Emily and Caleb Ishee.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 10, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Father Ron Browning officiating.

Burial will follow at the Godwin Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 9, 2014, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Randy Sims, Colton Sims, Dylan Sims, Hayden Sims, Caleb Sims, Greg Fabbro, Hutch Hutchison, Michael Ishee and Greg “Eggy” Therrell.

Paul Martin Upton

October 7, 2014

Mr. Paul Martin Upton, age 26 of Century, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 5, 2014, at Jay Hospital after a tragic accident.

Mr. Upton was a native of Milton, and a long time resident of the Century community where he was a member and usher of Pilgrim’s Lodge Baptist Church in Century.

He is survived by his mother and step-father, Sandra (Frank)Rich of Pensacola; his father and step-mother, Marty (Sharabeth) Upton of Texas; maternal grandmother, Kate Bondurant of Century; step-grandmother, Beth Rich of Pensacola; brother, John Curtis Upton; step-brother, Chris Rich; nieces, Maria Sears Upton and Asa Sharrif of Orlando; uncle, John G. Upton of Farmers Branch, TX; and numerous relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2014, at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cary Gilbert and Rev. Robert Barrow officiating.

Interment will follow in Pollard Cemetery in Flomaton.

Tina Vickery-Orso

Tina Vickery-Orso was born July 3, 1956, and went to be with our Lord and Savior on October 3, 2014.

Visitation for Tina will be held at Highland Baptist Church, located at 6420 Hwy 95A in Molino, on Saturday, October 11, 2014, from 1o a.m. – 11 a.m. Funeral services will immediately following at 11:00 a.m.

Leonard “Blue Gill” McCurdy

October 7, 2014

Mr. Leonard ‘Blue Gill’ McCurdy, age 94 of Century, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2014, at Century Health and Rehabilitation Center in Century.

Mr. McCurdy was a native and lifetime member of the Century community where he worked as a truck driver in the transportation business. He was a member of the Church of Christ and was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Mildred McCurdy; their daughter, Jean Grantham; and granddaughter, Grayton Karleigh Creekbaum.

Survivors include his daughter, Ginger (Charles) Rumbley of Pensacola; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later time by Mr. McCurdy’s family.

Stephen “Buck” Hubbard

Mr. Stephen “Buck” Hubbard, Jr. 86 of Nokomis (AL) passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2014. Mr. Hubbard was a United States Army veteran and served during the Korean War. He retired from civil service where he worked at Brookley Field in Mobile and Naval Air Station in Pensacola. He was a member of Nokomis Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Laura Mae Hubbard; sister, Sally Tucker; and his wife, Pauline Brantley Hubbard.

Mr. Hubbard is survived by his sister, Margaret Johnson; his brother, Wayne (Linda) Hubbard all of Nokomis; nieces and nephews, Todd (Samantha) Hubbard, Brayden Hubbard and Taylor Hubbard all of Nokomis, Ralph (Judy) Tucker, Steve Tucker, Stephen Curtis Tucker, Nicholas Tucker, Terri Tucker and Ethan Tucker all of Knoxville, TN.

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, October 7, 2014, from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. C.L. Langford and Rev. James Hill officiating.

Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery with military honors.

Active pallbearers were Todd Hubbard, Brayden Hubbard, Ralph Tucker, Stephen Curtis Tucker, Nicholas Tucker and Michael Hadley.

Tony L. Bryant

Mr. Tony L. Bryant, 63, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2014, in Atmore.

Mr. Bryant was a native and lifelong resident of Atmore. Mr. Bryant was in the Atmore Antique Car Club and Manager of Montgomery Industrial Gasses of Brewton. His parents, Eulie and Audrey Bryant and a brother, Lynn Bryant, precede him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Linda K. Bryant of Atmore; three sons, Chris (Missy) Bryant of East Brewton, John (Kelly) Bryant of Canton, GA, and Kevin (Michelle) Bryant of Covington, GA; three brothers, James (Carole) Bryant of Flomaton, Wayne (Ann) Bryant of Silver Springs, FL, and Jimmy (Vickie) Bryant of Russellville, AR; one sister, Darlene (Phil) Weaver of Maplesville, AL; and six grandchildren – Lexi, Joseph, Jasmine, Eli, Eason and Jerry.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. John Mathis and Elder Bobby Willis officiating.

Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Ouida Lee McCauley

Mrs. Ouida Lee McCauley, 82, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2014 in McDavid.

Mrs. McCauley was a native of Marianna and a lifelong resident of McDavid. Her brother, Larry Lee, precedes her in death.

She is survived by her husband, Clifton McCauley of McDavid; one son, Steven (Karen) McCauley of McDavid; one daughter, Anita C. (Wayne) Godwin of McDavid; one brother, James Lee of Cottondale, FL; two grandchildren, Jonathan (Katie) Godwin and Casey Godwin; and two great-grandchildren, C.B. and Addison Godwin.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Ted Bridges officiating.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until service time a 11:00 a.m.. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home in Atmore

Susan Kay Graves

October 5, 2014

Susan Kay Graves, 57, passed away Friday, October 3, 2014, at her home in Brewton surrounded by family and friends.

Ms. Graves was born at Travis AFB in Fairfield, CA.

She graduated valedictorian of her class from Flomaton High School, and graduated from Auburn University with a degree in physics.

She began her professional career in Panama City, FL, working for the Civil Service at (NCSC) Naval Coastal System Center as an electronics engineer. Her career afforded her the opportunity to develop SOX lighting for 16 classes of Navy ships, study at the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA, and work as a systems analyst at the Pentagon in Washington D.C.

After retiring from the civil service, Ms. Graves dedicated her time and talents to her spiritual life and community, and became an ordained minister working, teaching and growing with her Unity Church family of Panama City.

Ms. Graves returned to Brewton in 1999, re-opening the convenience store her father and mother, Sam and Clara, had opened in 1965. The hope was that Susan’s Pantry would restore some of the convenience and community spirit the country grocery had once provided by serving the communities of Foshee, Pineview, Hammac, and Wildfork Road.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Sanford and Clara Graves.

Survivors include her life partner, Janet Beall of Brewton; brothers: Sanford Graves Jr. of California; William (Agnes) Graves of Texas; sister, Rebecca (Tommy) Blackmon of Auburn; and multiple cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at 5:00 p.m. at the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Brewton, with the Rev. Rob Dixon officiating.

Raymond Bradley White

Mr. Raymond Bradley White, 60, passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, in Bay Minette.

Mr. White was a native and lifelong resident of Bay Minette. Mr. White was served with the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran.

He is survived by his brother, Tom White of Bay Minette; three sisters, Miriam Purvis of Atmore, Audrey Gauci of Elberta and Diane Hicks of Perdido; and caregiver/nephew, Phillip Hicks of Bay Minette.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at 5 p.m. at the Bryars-McGill Cemetery with Bro. Michael Hadley officiating.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Hicks, Chase White, Cole White, Michael Purvis and Josh Tongret.

Paul Howard Godwin

Mr. Paul Howard Godwin, 60, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2014, in Pensacola.

Mr. Godwin was a native of Atmore and a lifelong resident of Bratt. Mr. Godwin was a member of the Bratt Baptist Church. His father, Lester Godwin and infant son precede him in death.

He is survived by his mother, Nell Godwin of Bratt; wife, Gail B. Godwin of Bratt; one son, Matthew Paul Godwin of Bratt; and two brothers, Lester Lynn (Judy) Godwin of Pensacola, and Wayne Godwin of Bratt.

Graveside services will be held Monday, October 6, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Godwin Cemetery with Rev. Delbert Redditt officiating.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 6, 2014, from 10 am. until 12 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
