David Lee Comalander

Mr. David Lee Comalander, 54, passed away Friday, November 28, 2014, in Century.

Mr. Comalander was native of Century and a resident of McDavid for most of his life. Mr. Comalander knew Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, loved to hunt, was a master carpenter and fabricator. He was very smart, he could do anything that he set his mind too. He was a very creative person. He also enjoyed painting, drawing, being with friends, family, and church on Sunday. He attended the Byrneville Mennonite Church. He would do anything to help you, give the shirt off his back if you needed it. His parents, James Dove and Beulah Comalander; one sister, Georgia Anne Prescott; and two brothers, Darrell Ray Comalander and Chris Comalander, precede him in death.

Survivors include his two sons, John David Comalander of Bratt and Christopher Lee Comalander of Bay Minette and their mother, Lori Horton of Beulah; six brothers, James Comalander of McDavid, Larry Comalander of McDavid, Jerry Comalander of Dothan, Lamar Comalander of Opp, Allen Comalander of Frisco City, LA and Reaggie Harold Comalander of Orlando; six sisters, Eleanor Stuckey of McDavid, Melba Townsend of Byrneville and Mary Wiggins Hall of Bratt; three grandchildren, Kaydence Comalander, Ciara Comalander and Jake David Comalander; and countless nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 1, 2014, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Marvin Bender officiating.

Burial was at the Godwin Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, James Palmer, Brian Wiggins, Eric Wiggins, Allen Holland, James Hughes and Dale Townsend.

Nicholas Renato Baer

December 1, 2014

Nicholas Renato Baer, 22, passed away on November 25, 2014. He was born in Hartford Connecticut and Nick moved to Pensacola in 2001. He attended Longleaf Elementary, Brentwood Middle, George Stone and Pensacola Junior College. Nick was a welder and worked at the family business with plans of taking the business over in the future. Nick was always smiling and had a big heart. Everyone laughed when Nick was around whether it was because of his wit or his antics. Nick was always helping others and his love and devotion to his family was fierce.

Nick was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Henry Baer.

Survivors include Gena Kim Register, fiancé; Kai Sung Baer, son; Jacqueline Baer Jensen, mother; Riki Lee Jensen, step-father; Ryan Henry Baer, brother; Sean Patrick Jensen, brother; Taitana Jensen and Brittany Jensen, step-sisters; Douglas and Patricia Fagan, maternal grandparents; Ron and Celeste Baer, paternal grandparents; Michael Baer, uncle; Paul and Jackie Hughes, uncle and aunt; Dave Best, uncle; Cyndi Baer, aunt; Dave Adams, uncle; Andrea Baer, aunt; Kelly Fagan, aunt; Liz Tarnell, aunt; cousins and countless friends.

Nick may be gone, but he will live always in our hearts and be seen in his son.

Services will be held at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North on Tuesday, December 2, 2014. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. with the funeral service at 4 p.m.

Bessie Marie Owens

December 1, 2014

Bessie Marie Owens, 91, of Atmore, passed away on November 28, 2014, at her residence. She was born on November 3, 1923, to the late John Leslie and Bessie Trest Richerson. She was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church and had been a member since 1956. She was a member of the Friendship Quilting Club. She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Sibley T. Richerson; sister, Ouida Bunch; infant sister, Madline Richerson and two sons-in-law, Charles E. Gideons, Sr. and David Davidson.

She is survived by her children, Dr. Rodney (Donna) Owens and Marilyn O. Gideons-Davidson; grandchildren, Charles “Eddie” (Tammy) Gideons, Tammy Gideons-Kaiser, Malcolm “Bub” Gideons, Ondrea Marie Gideons Williamson, Monica Gideons Ziglar, Johnathon (Angelique) Owens and Jason (Melissa) Owens; 18 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 6, 2014, at 11 a.m. from the Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Diane Everette, Rev. Jean Spikes and Rev. Phillip Chase officiating.

Family will receive friends Saturday, December 6, 2014, from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. from Bethel United Methodist Church.

Jay Stewart Jefcoat

November 29, 2014

Jay Stewart Jefcoat, known to many as “Coach” walked into eternity with Jesus on November 27, 2014.  He was born August 21, 1949, in Montgomery to Nathan Jefcoat and Alma Stewart Jefcoat.

He graduated from Livingston University with a bachelor’s of  science degree and a master’s degree in physical education.  He retired in 2011 from a 40 year coaching career.  Coach Jefcoat was offensive coordinator for Troy State University during the national championship season of 1984, as well as leading Charles Henderson High School in Troy to a state championship in 1980 as head coach.  He also coached at Livingston University and high schools in Alabama and Florida.

He left an inspiring legacy for those who will always cherish him.  Jay lived to serve Christ, his purpose in life was to glorify our Savior.  The love he demonstrated to others was a true reflection of Jesus living in Him.  He was a very humble man and left a mark on everyone’s life he touched.  Jay was a member of Olive Baptist Church where he taught the Raymond Oliver men’s Sunday School class and the Overcomer’s Sunday School class.  Over the years he taught, mentored, and discipled many men on the football field and off.  He led by example.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan and Alma Jefcoat.  He is survived by his wife, Debbe Jefcoat, better known to him as “his bride.” his children, Mark Jefcoat (Mandy) of Monroeville, Eddie Jefcoat (Jodie) of Troy, Trent Goodson (Melissa) of Lake City, FL, and Gabe Goodson of Pensacola; two brothers, Chad Jefcoat (Janet) of Montgomery, John Jefcoat (Stephanie) of Wetumpka; a sister, Judi Jefcoat Lackey (Russell) of Montgomery; mother-in-law, Margaret Dickens Entrekin of Brundidge; brother-on-law, Jimmy King (Jennifer) of Brundidge; nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Olive Baptist Church Monday, December 1, 2014.  Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and tje funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The Ministry Village at Olive, Chris House Program.

Alan DeWayne Kennington

November 29, 2014

Alan DeWayne Kennington age 57 of Milton passed away on November 27, 2014 in Pensacola. Alan was a lifelong resident of Milton and enjoyed riding through the town in his El Camino and could weather any storm. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend to those who knew him.

Alan was preceded in death by his father R.H. Kennington and his aunt Fannie Cawthon.

He is survived by his mother Melba Jean Kennington, three daughters Kristen, Holly, and Ashleigh Kennington, two grandchildren Caden and Kaelee, three brothers Robert, James, and Charles (Amber) Kennington, and his best friend David Winkles.

A visitation will be held for Alan at Jay Funeral Home chapel on November 30, 2014, from 1-2 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. on the same day at Jay Funeral Home. His burial will follow services at Crain cemetery in Milton, Florida.

Pallbearers will be David Winkles, Farrell Parks, Jason Stansfield, Lamar Kennington, Randolph Kennington, Charles Kennington, Robert Franklin, and Scott Cawthon.

Anyone who is interested in celebrating Alan’s life is welcome at 100 Mclaughlin Road, his house in Allentown immediately following the burial.

Betty Nell Byrd Barbarow

November 29, 2014

Mrs. Betty Nell Byrd Barbarow, age 83, passed from this life Wednesday, November 26,2014. She was born in Atmore to the late Wallace and Freddie Byrd. In 1955 she married Connie B. Barbarow. She was a lifelong resident of Perdido, where she was a homemaker. She was also an active member of the Perdido Church of God until her health prevented it. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Gloria Plovanich.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Connie B Barbarow; two daughters, Ellen B. Earls (Darwin) and Rose B. Mosley; four grandchildren, Brandon E. Earls, Breanna E. Earls, Brian E. Earls and Brooke E. Earls.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 30, 2014, at 2 p.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randall Short and Rev. Thurisa Long officiating.

Burial will follow in Perdido Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday, November 30, 2014 from 1 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Plovanich, George Plovanich, Max White, Darwin Earls, Brandon Earls and Brian Earls.

Guynell King Goneke

November 28, 2014

Guynell King Goneke went to her home in Heaven on Monday, November 24, 2014.

She was born on January 25, 1916, to her parents, Gordon and Kate King in Commerce, GA. The family moved to Jay when she was 12 years old. She accepted the Lord at age 16 at Pine Level Baptist Church. She graduated from Jay High School in 1937 and married Robert Mavin “Butch” Goneke the same year. They moved to Pensacola in 1941. She was employed at J.J. Newberry, Aubrey E. Gomillion, CPA, and W.T. Grant. She was an excellent seamstress and a marvelous cook. Her pound cakes, German chocolate cakes and many other dishes were so special. She often sewed and cooked for family and friends. She traveled to 46 states during her lifetime and was a member of Olive Baptist Church and the Steadfast Sunday School class.

Guynell was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mavin Goneke (in 1971 after 37 years of marriage); brothers, D.C., Wheeler, Parks and Horace King also sister, “Jimmie” Wise.

Survivors include her son, Freddy (Becky) Goneke; daughter, Sylvia (Bill) Menges and grandchildren, Shannon Casey and Shane (Amanda) Goneke; great grandchildren, Austin, Jayde and Gavin Goneke; sister, Francine Gomillion and many nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be held 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service begins at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 28, 2014, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Dr. Jerry Passmore officiating. Private entombment will be in the Bayview Memorial Park Mausoleum with her husband.

In lieu of flowers it was her desire that memorials be made in her name to Florida Baptist Children’s Home, 1000 Chemstrand Rd., Cantonment, FL 32533.

Annie Mae Pettis

November 28, 2014

Mrs. Annie Mae Pettis, 88, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, in Atmore.

Mrs. Pettis was a native of Bellville, AL and a resident of Atmore since 1977. Mrs. Pettis was a member of the Fretwell Tabernacle Church. Her husbands, Calvin Pugh and Leroy Pettis; and two sons, John Pugh and Calvin Pugh precede her in death.

Survivors include her two sons, Roy Pettis of Atmore and Leamon Pugh of Deritter, LA; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, November 29, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Sis. Helen Stewart officiating.

Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 29, 2014, from 12:30 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Linda D. Russell

November 28, 2014

Linda D. Russell, 63, of Pensacola, passed away on Monday, November 24, 2014. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and Nana and will be missed by every one whose life she touched.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Mable cooper; her brothers, Raymond Corley and Gary Cooper; her sister, Jean Parker; and her son-in-law, Michael Estrada. Her beloved pets, Prissy and Cali “Baby Girl’ also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, John; her daughters, Rebecca Russell Estrada and Kelli Russell (Clay) Greer. She is also survived by her pride and joy, her grandchildren, Brandon Russell, Michael Russell, Shane Parker, Sydney Parker, Rene Aguillar, Autumn Greer, Constance Greer and Killian Greer; her brother, Dennis (Debbie) Cooper and Nancy (Hesham) Ismail. She was a loving aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, most notably Jenifer Mitchel who was a great help to her whenever she was needed.

Her family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2014, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. with Bro. Ed Tisdale officiating.

Mr. Jerry Johnson, age 71 of Flomaton, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2014, at his home.

Mr. Johnson was a native of Flomaton and a lifetime resident where he worked as a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of Osaka Freewill Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his father, Woodrow Wilson Johnson and sister, Pearl McCurdy.

He is survived by his mother, Elma Dole Johnson of Flomaton; his wife of 50 years, Jeanette Johnson of Flomaton; son, Michael (Teresa) Johnson of McDavid; daughter, Angie (Steve) Turner of Byrneville; brothers, Wilson Johnson, Charles Johnson and Ronnie Johnson, all of Pineview, AL and Donnie Johnson of Flomaton; sisters, Bettie Armstrong of Pea Ridge and Cat Reid of Byrneville; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 28, 2014, at the Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2014, at 1 p.m. with Bro. Jim Johnson and Bro. Paul Armstrong officiating.
