Merrill Ethan Ledford

Merrill Ethan Ledford went to be with Jesus on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at his home surrounded by family. Merrill was born on October 12, 1945, in Louisville, Alabama to France and Virginia Ledford. He was a graduate of Carroll High School in Ozark, Alabama and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Troy University. Merrill taught high school history and civics at Escambia County High School until leaving for a second career with Alfa Insurance where he retired in 2009. Merrill enjoyed the outdoors and loved competing in tennis tournaments throughout his life. He coached T-Ball and loved watching his sons play. He loved to travel and was especially fond of New Orleans, cruising with his family and journeying to visit extended family for holidays and reunions. Merrill had a passion for researching archives and fleshing out his family tree with names, dates and photos. He loved grilling outdoors, boiled peanuts and most of all Alabama football.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Merrill is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Fountain Ledford; one brother, Paul Andrew Ledford of Panama City, Florida; four children, Kimberly Ledford Burley (Bruce), Richard Todd Ledford (Faith), Matthew Tyler Ledford and Michael Andrew Ledford; five grandchildren, Connor, Walker and Aubree Burley, Mason and Macray Ledford.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 16, 2015, at the First Assembly of God in Atmore with Bro. Don Davis officiating.

Burial was in Serenity Gardens Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Kenneth Fountain, Dudley Fountain, Glenn Fountain, Tony Fountain, Lee Fountain, and Leonard Sowell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Merrill’s special tennis friends, Walter Dewitt, Lou Vickery, John Strahle, Billy Madison, and Robert Johnson.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Flomaton High School Scholarship Fund, 21200 Highway 31, Flomaton, Al 36441.

Wayne C. Carvin

February 19, 2015

Wayne C. Carvin, 66, of Pensacola, passed away February 15, 2015. He was a member of the Living Church of God. He retired from the U S Marine Corps and also from the Escambia Public School System as a custodial supervisor. Most recently, he worked at Walmart on Hwy 29 in maintenance. He enjoyed golf, country music and spending time with his wife and family.

He is preceded in death by his father, Royce Clarence Carvin and brother, Royce “Peanut” Carvin.

He is survived by his wife, Elmira Carvin; children, Teri Wells (Butch), Terry Soble (Rich), Wayne Carvin, and William Walker (Sharon); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; mother, Phyllis Lulls and four brothers,Willie Carvin, Doug Carvin (Mickey), David Carvin and Mike Carvin.

Visitation will be at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South, Sunday, February 22, 2015, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 23, 2015, at 11:30 a.m. at Faith Chapel South with Pastor Ed Breaux officiating.

Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.

James Thomas “Morris” Luker

James Thomas “Morris” Luker 96, born and raised around Atmore, passed away Monday, February 16, 2015, in Aberdeen, MS. He was born on June 1, 1918.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Arcola Luker; and siblings, Perry,Robert, Gladys, O’Neal, George, Melvin, Freddie, and Lillian.

He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday, February 19, 2015, at 1 p.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. C.L. Langford officiating.

Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

His nephews will be pallbearers.

Cyrus Winfred Morgan

February 17, 2015

Mr. Cyrus Winfred Morgan, age 80 of Flomaton, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2015, at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola.

Mr. Morgan was a native of Barth and a member of the Flomaton community for 58 years coming from Byrneville. He was a veteran of the United States Army and during his working years, he worked for Monsanto as an electrician. Mr. Morgan was a member of Little Escambia Baptist Church where he served as deacon and held several positions in the church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Beasley Morgan of Flomaton; sons, Jonathan Darryl (Helen) Morgan of Flomaton and Jeffrey Vincent (Kelly) Morgan of Atmore; daughters, Deborah (Glenn) Fountain of Atmore; brothers, Glen (Hazel) Morgan of New Hebron, MS, Homer Morgan of Gulf Shores, and Donald (Helen) Morgan of Byrneville; sisters, Shirley (Eddie) Irvin of Bay Minette, Jo Ann (James) Roley of Atmore, Linda Sue (Larry) Carlton of Flomaton, Betty (Jimmy) Brockett of Saraland, and Darlene Brock of Pace; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at Little Escambia Baptist Church from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2015, at Little Escambia Baptist Church at 3 p.m. with Rev. Doug Hogg and Dr. Larry Patterson officiating.

Interment will follow in Little Escambia Baptist Church Cemetery in Flomaton.

Pallbearers will be Nicholas Morgan, Aaron Fountain, Jerry Watley, Junior Jordan, Eddie Irvin, Dusty Godwin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of the church.

Teresa Marie Jordan

Mrs. Teresa Marie Jordan, age 56 of Century, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at her home.

Mrs. Jordan was born in Atmore but was a lifetime resident of the Byrneville and Century communities where she was a homemaker and a member of Byrneville United Methodist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lemuel Lloyd Jordan and her brother, James Micheal Wilson.

Mrs. Jordan is survived by her parents, James and Barbara Covan Wilson of Byrneville; son, James ‘Nick’ Jordan of Byrneville; daughters, Lindsey (Jeremiah) Wilson of Byrneville and Kasey (Dustin) Carnley of Flomaton; sisters, Sharon Denise Odom of Century, Mary Kathryn Black of Flomaton, and Beth Beck of Orlando; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 20, 2015, at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel beginning at 1 p.m. until a 2 p.m. service time with Rev. Eric Bryan officiating.

Interment will be in Flomaton Cemetery in Flomaton.

Ronda Ann Kittrell

February 16, 2015

Ronda Ann Kittrell, age 48, of Cantonment, passed away suddenly on February 13, 2015. She will be terribly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her loving husband Dale; cherished daughter, Erica Leanne (Kellan Martin) Kittrell; beloved granddaughter, Ember Rose Martin; mother, Trudy Perry Rawson; sister, Beth Rawson Flannigan; and brothers, Lance Rawson and Ronny Madron.

Ronda is preceded in death by her father, Ronald James Rawson and brother, Ricky Dale Perry.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2015, at Faith Chapel North. Friends are welcome to visit one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Farm Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Cantonment.

Hollis James Hicks

Hollis James Hicks, 76 of Ellisville, Mississippi, died on Wednesday, February 11, 2015, in Ellisville, Mississippi. He was born Sunday, September 11, 1938. He was the son of the late Clyde Hicks and the late Maggie Colbert Hicks. He was the husband of Magalene Williamson Hicks. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Mr. Hicks served in the Mississippi National Guard and was a member of the American Legion and VFW in Petal, MS. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting (especially coon hunting) and enjoyed his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his son, Edwin Allbrooks and brothers, Houston Hicks, Sammy Hicks and Fred Hicks.

Survivors include his daughters, Charlotte (Kenneth) Holder, Shelia (Sherrill) Blackwell and Kay Snodgrass all of Ellisville, MS; brothers, Burl (Marcella) Hicks, Harl D. “Mack” Hicks and Johnny (Elaine) Hicks all of Laurel, MS; sisters, Mazie (Gene) Burkett of Atmore, Mary Lou Ridgeway of Bay Minette and Irene Bryant of Atmore; grandchildren, Shane (Melissa) Herrington, Tonya Holder, Kristie (Neil) Windham, Ken (Kathy) Holder, Blake Blackwell, Alexis Allbrooks and Shae Blackwell; great-grandchildren, Brett Herrington, Daniel Windham, Harley Nobles, Jonathan Windham, Aaron Allbrooks, Caleb Windham, Blaine Herrington, Samantha Allbrooks and Hannah Windham. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be Sunday, February 15, 2015, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Stroud officiating.

Burial will follow at the Poplar Springs Church Cemetery in Uriah.

Rondal Howell age 73 of Jernigan Road in Brewton, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2015, at his residence after a brief illness. He was a native and lifelong resident of Brewton. Mr. Howell was a member of the Catawba Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ann McLelland Howell of Brewton; two sons, Tim (Lisa) Howell and Lance (Wendy) Howell all of Brewton; two grandchildren, Adam Howell, Andrew Howell; one great-grandchild, Robby Howell; four isters-in-law, Joy McLelland of East Brewton, Dorothy Howell of Pensacola, Melva Howell of Flomaton and Pam Howell of Brewton/

Herby E. Wilson

February 13, 2015

Herby E. Wilson, 65, of Cantonment, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2015. He retired from Solutia after 36 years as a maintenance follower. He had a lawn care business and enjoyed working with plants and flowers. His children and grandchildren were very important to him.

He is preceded in death by his father, Cecil Wilson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Lee Wilson; children, Collen Hadley, Courtney Huot (Jeff), Michelle Page (Cole) and Angela Hansard; 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; his mother, Betty Wilson; and his brother, Cecil Wilson, Jr. (Linda).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Hospice in Herby’s memory.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2015, beginning at 6 p.m. with the memorial service at 7:30 p.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.
