Daniel “Guy” Prothro

Daniel “Guy” Prothro, a proud Korean War Veteran, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2015. He was born March 20, 1933, in Lamar County, Alabama, to Jim Richard Prothro and Jimmie “Nell” Brock Prothro. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne division. “Sarge,” loved spending time with his family, playing dominoes with his friends, NASCAR racing, Blue Wahoos baseball games, and especially Alabama football.
He is survived by his cherished wife of 52 years, and best friend, Vicki Mitchell Prothro; daughters Joy (Mike) Lasseter and Sharon (Gene) Cochran; son Stanley; grandchildren, Kelsi (Jesse) Finley, Kalin Lasseter, Keely Cochran, and Josh McCormick; and great-granddaughters, Bailey and Rylee Finley. He will also be missed by his large extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 5, 2015, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Faith Chapel North Funeral Home in Cantonment.
Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Bro. Bill Flannigan of Plainview Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola.
Pallbearers will be Buck Kelly, Ronnie Carden, Josh McCormick, Gene Wiggins, Phillip Odom, and Mike Lasseter.

Lillian Fillingim King

Lillian Fillingim King, 73, of Molino, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2015.
She was preceded in death by her parents, AJ and Cora Harris Fillingim, and brother Jack Fillingim.
Surviving are her husband and best friend, Ian (John), of 54 years; daughters Deborah Rossi (Robert) and Angela Bonifay and sons David King (Jackie) and Ted King (Jenny); grandchildren Stephen Rossi, Jordan Jack, Jennifer Sanderson, Ian Nowling, and Olivia and Amelia King; step-grandchildren Christopher and Selena Jacks; and two great-grandchildren; sisters, Marian Mobley and Maxine Smith; and a loving extended family.
Lil was a faithful member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church serving as Sunday school teacher, funeral food director (the best sweet tea maker ever!), and vacation bible school registrar.
She established the Molino Mid-County Historical Society in 2000 and served as its president until her death.
With the help of local Escambia County officials, she was instrumental in transforming the vacant Molino School into the much needed Molino Community Center providing a library, museum, meeting rooms, and multi-use auditorium.

Pallbearers will be Robert and Stephen Rossi, Jordan Jack, Robert Mobley, Christopher Jacks and Darryl Bishop.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 3, 2015, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Faith Chapel North.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
Interment will follow in Aldersgate Methodist Church Cemetery.
James Robert Yoder

Mr. James Robert Yoder, age 65 of Brewton, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2015, at his home.
Mr. Yoder was a native of Charleston, West Virginia and a resident of Brewton since 1956 coming from West Virginia. He was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force and during his working years, he worked for the Escambia County Road Department as a foreman. Mr.Yoder was a member of Bethel Mennonite Church and is preceded in death by his parents, Hansel French and Alice Pearl Black Yoder, Sr. and his brother, Donnie Yoder.
Survivors include his wife, Monika Sue Yoder of Brewton; daughters, Barbara (Leo) Luker of Atmore and Christy Yoder of Brewton; brothers, Dale (Glenda) Yoder of Atmore, Charlie (Debbie) Yoder of Brewton and Hansel French (Judy) Yoder, Jr. of Kansas; sister, Flora (Mack) Odom of Orlando; grandchildren, Kayla Yoder, Whitney Tolbert, Dillian Crutchfield and Blake Luker.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 2, 2015, at Craver’s Funeral Home Chapel beginning at 10:30 a.m. until service time at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. John Kemp and Rev. Woody Jackson officiating.

Edwin W. Ray

Edwin W Ray, longtime resident of Atmore and member of First United Methodist church passed away on February 26, 2015, at the William F. Green Veterans home in Bay Minette AL.
He was born to Eunice and W. Morton Rayon June 1, 1927, in Phoenix City, AL. Ed served in the US Navy as a Pharmacists Mate and was honorably discharged in July of 1946. He then attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University, and graduated in pharmacy in 1949. He moved to Dothan and practiced at a local pharmacy where he met his wife Jeanette Spooner. They married on July 2, 1950. Ed and Jeanette were married for 63 years until her death in 2013.Ed served in the US Army as a Second Lieutenant during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in March 1954. After his discharge, he worked for seventeen years in pharmaceutical sales, sales management, and product management for E.R. Squibb & Sons.
In 1967, Ed bought Greenlawn Pharmacy in Atmore and practiced there for the remainder of his career. He was active in the Lions Club, served as president, and was also president of the Chamber of Commerce in 1972. Ed served on the Alabama Board of Pharmacy for five years, and was president for two years. Ed received the Bowl of Hygeia award from the American Pharmaceutical Association and A.H. Robbins, 1985, in acknowledgment of his service to his community and profession.
Ed is survived by his three children, Kathy Hasty of Pinehurst, NC; Joe Ray of Montrose, AL; Mary Jean Crane of Plantation, FL; six grandchildren, Brandi Schwartz, Sherri Ivey, Emily Ray, Ben Ray, Allen Ray and Matthew Crane; and two great-grandchildren, Raygan Schwartz and Leighanne Ivey; and two brothers, Jim Ray of Dothan, and Joe B.Ray MD Mobile.AL.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 28, 2015, at 12 noon from the First United Methodist Church of Atmore. Honorary Pallbearers are Matthew Crane, Ben Ray, Allen Ray, Jimmy Crook, Gene West, Clint Smith. Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Deanna M. Mullins

Deanna M. Mullins, 44 of Pensacola, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015. Deanna was born in Pensacola and graduated from Tate High School in 1989. She was a very loving person with a heart of gold. She loved her children and family and was generous to all. Above all she loved the Lord with all her heart. Precious Deanna’s favorite quote: “God is Love.”
She is preceded in death by her stepdad, the dad that raised her, Willard Brown; and father, Richard Mullins.
Deanna is survived by her children, Preston Eddings, Annie Eddings and Christopher Green; mother, Joyce Brown; brothers and sisters, Ricky Mullins, James Mullins, Joyce Hanks and Melinda Brown Dunn; step-brothers and sisters, Libby, Darlene, Shelia, Gene, Lynn Wayne, Will, Shawn Brown; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2015, at Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Calhoun officiating.
Burial will follow in Ray’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Sarah H. Ward 90, of Molino, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dave Ward; parents, Robert and Ada Hatfield; and her siblings.
She is survived by her three daughters, Betty (Sonny) Hicks of Molino, Janice (John) West of Prairieville, LA, and Wanda Graham of Milton; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.She was also blessed with two very special friends and wonderful caring neighbors.
Active pallbearers will be Ray Hicks, Justin Kite, Cody Kite, William Grantham, Jr. Caleb Morrell, and Randy Weaver.

James Coleman Fuqua

Mr. James Coleman Fuqua, age 18 of Barrentine Road, Brewton, passed away Saturday night February 21, 2015, in Pensacola after injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was a native and lifelong resident of Brewton. Mr. Fuqua was a member of the Bethel Mennonite Church, he attended W.S. Neal School before enrolling at Escambia Academy where he played football and was on the weightlifting team. He was a member of the graduating class of 2015.
He is survived by his mother Jean Joyner Fuqua of Brewton; aunt Sara Owens of Phenix City, AL; cousins Cody Owens, Heath Owens, and Shannon Odom; special fiends Todd White, Kriss White, Cade White, Will Hendrix, Blaklee Hendrix, Coach Hugh Fountain; many friends and classmates.
He was preceded in death by his father James Earl “Fuzz” Fuqua and his grandparents Coleman and Ethel Fuqua.
Visitation will be held Wednesday night February 25, 2015. from 6-8 p.m. at William Memorial Chapel in Brewton.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday afternoon February 26, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at William Memorial Chapel in Brewton with Rev. John Kemp officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery in Brewton.
Judith Robin Surles

Dr. Judith Robin Surles 65, of Atmore, passed away February, 16, 2015, at her residence. She was born August 30, 1949, in Morristown, N.J. but was raised most of her life in Mountain Lakes, N.J. She was a graduate of Life University in Atlanta and had retired from the Health Plus Chiropractic Center in Atmore. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Lawrence and Patricia Sally Walter Harden and a sister, Sally Rae Goordman.
She is survived by her sisters, Laurie Harden (Peter) Andruskiewicz of New Jersey and Kathy Lynn Brew of Maui, Hawaii; special cousins, Larry Rutledge and Donald Rutledge; two nephews, Peter Andruskiewicz and Patrick Andruskiewicz. She loved her cats and dogs very much.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, February 26, 2015, at 5 p.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Cornelius Phillips officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the ASPCA in memory of Dr. Judith Robin Surles.

Ernest Eugene (Gene) Godwin
February 23, 2015
Mr. Godwin passed away at the William F. Green VA Home in Bay Minette on February 21, 2015. He was born on August 10, 1931, in Byrneville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Eunice (Wiggins) Godwin; his wife, Myrlene (Stewart) Godwin; his son, Ernest Garry Godwin; and his sister, Flora Vaughn.
Mr. Godwin is survived by his son, Larry (Rebecca) Godwin of Atmore; his daughters, Deborah (David) Ronzone of Bratt and Shelly Godwin of Perlington, MS. Other survivors include six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marietta Downer of Bratt and Georgia Avery of Dothan, AL.
Mr. Godwin served in the US Army during the Korean War, achieving the rank of sergeant. Upon completing his military service, he worked for Vanity Fair Mills in Atmore. After 42 years, he retired as Head Machinist.
Mr. Godwin enjoyed special family time riding motorcycles. He also rode with friends and various groups for enjoyment as well as for charitable fundraising events.
For many years and until his death, Mr. Godwin was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where he had served on the Vestry in the office of Junior Warden. He had also been a member of the American Legion until recent years.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church on February 24, 2015, at 1 p.m. with Rev. John Phillips of Pensacola officiating.
Immediately after the service, burial will follow at Godwin Cemetery in Bratt.
Pallbearers will be Elliot Classen, Kevin Classen, Shawn Godwin, Robert Earl Godwin, Blaine O’Brien and Roy Ward.
The Women of Trinity Episcopal Church in Atmore are honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Godwin’s family will be forever grateful for the excellent care everyone at the Veterans Home in Bay Minette has shown for the past year-and-a-half. The entire staff have all treated Mr. Godwin and his family with dignity and kindness. Particular thanks to everyone who works on G Wing of the facility for their professionalism and compassion. The family is also grateful to Covenant Hospice for keeping Mr. Godwin comfortable in his final days.

Dorothy Aline Calhoun Russell

Dorothy Aline Calhoun Russell passed away on February 20, 2015 after living a full and wondrous life for 94 years. Dorothy was born in Dixonville, FL in 1920 and was employed by PJC as a bookkeeper for many years before retiring to be a housewife, farmer and gardener. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she played piano. She was an avid reader, gardener, domino and card player.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Claude Russell and her first husband, Emmett Nall; her father, Riley John Calhoun and mother, Eunice Calhoun; son, John Nall; sisters Faye Duffy, Mae Travis and Doris Kilgore; and brothers, Harvey, Ralph, Hubert and Brian Calhoun.
She is survived by her daughter, June (Glenn) Nall Hughes; sons, Michael (Joan) Nall and Emmett Nall; sisters, Olive Wise and Glynn Gatlin; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and many half-brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins as well.
Pallbearers will be David and Stephen Hughes, Terry and Timothy Born, Brian Nall and Brett DeLorme.
Honorary pallbearer is Nick Nall.
