Daniel Currie Jones “Deacon”

Daniel was born in Muscogee, FL on April 30, 1926, to the late Tom and Inez Steagall Jones and passed away suddenly on May 15, 2015.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Roland, Edward “Sugerboy”, and Gene; and a sister, Helen Jones Harned.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Cofty Jones; his children, Daniel O. (Lynn), Arleen (Ronnie Keck), and Mark; his grandchildren, Lezlie Keck McLaughlan and Jason Keck; his great-grandchildren, Raeann and Tomas McLaughlan; and his sisters, Hilda Jones Ansley, Peggy Jones Odom, Judy Jones Rhodes, and Janie Jones Graves; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a CM3 during WWII in the South Pacific from 1944-1946 and returned to graduate from Tate High School. He continued on to graduate in the first class at Chipola Jr. College; and then to earn a B.S. Degree in Mathematics from Troy State University. While at Troy, he met the love of his life, Barbara Cofty of Colquitt GA. They married and made their home, for 63 years in Escambia County, where he worked as a millwright at St. Regis later Champion Paper from where he retired after 36 years.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling with his family. He loved and was very much loved by his friends and family.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Rev. Jimmy Cook, officiating.
Burial was in Rawls Cemetery in Coquitt, GA.

Walter “Bud” Sparshott

Walter “Bud” Sparshott, age 75, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2015.
He served 32 years in the U.S. Navy retiring as a Command Master Chief. After retirement he owned and operated Century 21 Southern Homes Realty Inc. and Southern Homes Realty LLC for over 25 years. He was well respected in the community, having been a part of many organizations. He will be missed.
Bud is preceded in death by his parents; Walter Sparshott and Beula Sparshott; son, Kenneth Sparshott; and daughter, Gaile Ann Sparshott.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Nancy Sparshott; daughter, Scarlett (Dan) Tullos; grandson, Braden Shockley; and granddaughter, Athena Graves.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North. The family will receive friends from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Interment will take place following the service at Barrancas National Cemetery.

Chester Field McGhee

Mr. Chester Field McGhee, 76, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2015, in Mobile.
Mr. McGhee was a native and lifelong resident of Atmore. He loved to fish and loved his family. He was of the Holiness faith. He is preceded in death by his mother, Pearlie Gertrude Rolin; father, James Mac McGhee; sisters, Leatha McGhee and Daisy Bell Rolin; and brothers, Fred Thomas McGhee and Edward Eugene Rolin.
He is survived by his three sons, Michael McGhee of Flomaton, Nathan McGhee of Flomaton and Andy McGhee of Pensacola; one daughter, Deborah (Earl) Weekley of Milton; nine grandchildren, Miranda Burgess, Payton McGhee, Katrina Aull, James McGhee Jr., Tiffany Candice Browning, Isabell McGhee, Ryan McGhee, Wyatt Kozell and Brooke Kozell; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at the Friendly Holiness Church with the Rev. Ray Ward officiating.
Burial was in the New Home Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James McGhee, Fred Wilson McGhee, David Rolin, Justin Davis, Jerry Sanchez and Wyatt Kozell.
Honorary pallbearer will be Eddie Tullis.

Johnnie Mae (Mock) Lee

Johnnie Mae (Mock) Lee, 89, passed away at the Atmore Nursing Center on Sunday, May 17, 2015.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John Elbert and Ella Mock; husband, Warner Clifford Lee; brother, John Elbert Mock Jr.; daughter, Patricia Lee Young; and two sisters, Marie DeLucia, and Ella Lee Taylor.
She is survived by son-in-law, C. W. Young III; one grandson, Daniel Park Young; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan Aiden Young and Peyton Mae Young; a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives.
She was a lifelong member of the Canoe United Methodist Church.
Visitation and funeral service will be held at Petty Funeral Homes East Side Chapel on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, with visitation from 1 p.m. until services at 2 p.m.
Interment will follow at Freewill Cemetery in Canoe.
Pallbearers will be Jack Johnson, Ed Johnson, Tony Gibbs, Bob Gibbs, Sammy Gibbs, Frankie Baggett and Tommy Young.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Canoe United Methodist Church Men’s Club.

Barbara L. Lewis

Barbara L. Lewis, age 80, our precious angel is flying high as of May 17, 2015. Barbara was born in Missouri on January 20, 1935, to Avery and Opal Oliver. In 1953, she married Donald F. Lewis Sr., her late husband of 55 years. In 1957 they moved to Florida where they raised their four children. Along with being a loving wife, mother, nanny and great nanny she worked for Escambia County School Board after 30 plus years of service and retired May 1, 2000. Her family was her life. She is deeply loved and treasured by family and friends and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lewis Sr.; her father and mother, Avery Oliver and Opal Oliver Buffington; her step father, Jack Buffington; two brothers, Avery Oliver and Tommy Oliver; one sister, Alice Hobbs; two grandchildren, Kimberly and Little Joe Nezovich; a sister-in-law, Sharon Wells; and a brother-in-law, Orville Wells.
Barbara is survived by her daughters, Donna (Joe) Nezovich, Dianna Bair, and Dena Lewis Oldfield; son, Donald (Christy) Lewis, Jr.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her brother, Jack Oliver; her sister, Stella (Jerry) Wall; numerous nieces and nephews; and a loving and devoted best friend of 30 years, Nancy (Mason) Millwood.
The family will receive friends at Faith Chapel North from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2015. Services begin at 12 p.m. Following the service procession to Barrancas National Cemetery for graveside at 2:00 p.m., Pastor Wayne Blocker and wife Angie Blocker will be officiating.
Pallbearers will be Tim Marks, Donnie Lewis III, Jody Nezovich, Devan Kervin, Tavarus Bair and Mason Millwood Jr.

Cora Lee Cartwright

Mrs. Cora Lee Cartwright, 92, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, in Milton.
Mrs. Cartwright was a native of Bratt and a resident of Bluff Springs for most of her life. Mrs. Cartwright was Queen of McDavid TOPS Club, am avid gardner, loved children, and was Granny to them all. She was of the holiness faith.
She wa preceded in death by her husband, Milton Cartwright; parents, Wilburn David and Sarah Simmons Ard; daughter, Judy Macks; brother, Lavon Cartwright; two grandsons, Joshua Cartwright and Jarrod Johnston; and a great grandson, Steven Lee Morris.
She is survived by her three sons, Eugene (Cheryl) Cartwright of Willington, CA, Jerry Cartwright of Milton, and Rufus (Deborah) Cartwright of Saraland, AL; four daughters, Wyvonne Pantermuehl of New Braunfels, TX, Eloise (Don) Rushing of Pensacola, Helen Morris of Flomaton, and Mavis (Wilson) Johnson of Flomaton; 79 grand, great and great-great grandchildren and numerous community grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 16, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at the Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Eric Bryan officiating.
Burial will follow at the Beulah Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, May 15, 2015 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church.

James Thomas “Tommy” Fears

James Thomas “Tommy” Fears, 63, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2015, in Atmore.
As a child Tommy attended Bethel Baptist Church in Flomaton. He was truly a musician at heart and marched to the beat of his own drum. Tommy loved the outdoors including fishing, hunting, camping and he had an unending love for Native American history and culture. He always said, “Being Native American was not just the color of your skin, it is a condition of the heart.”
He is survived by his daughter, Kayla Marie Fears of Atmore; son, James Daryl Fears of Pensacola; sister, Brenda (Donald) Sales of Century; brother, Charles (Betty) Fears of Monroeville; former wife of 20 years, Juanita Fears; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Friendship Holiness Church in Atmore.

Henry Eugene O’Farrell

Henry Eugene O’Farrell, 87 of Davisville, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015, in Pensacola. He was retired after 32 years as an instrument tech with Monsanto. He was born in Bratt on April 8, 1928, to the late John Henry and Lily Belle Wiggins O’Farrell. He served in the United States Army, and was a Korean War veteran. He was a lifetime member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Walnut Hill Rutian Club and the Atmore VFW Post # 7016.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Esther McKinley O’Farrell; sisters, Estelle Hanks and Ethlene Gibson.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth G.( Dana) O’Farrell of Orange Beach, AL; two daughters, Cynthia O. Freeman of Walnut Hill and Barbara O. (Billy) Powell of LaPlace, LA; three brothers, Ellis (Julia Nell) O’Farrell of Bratt, Everette (Janice) O’Farrell of Oak Grove and Lamar (Joan) O’Farrell of Bratt; three sisters, Carolyn (Dalton) Morgan, Rita (Col. Charles) Lowery and Patricia O’Farrell, all of Bratt; four granddaughters, Kimberly O. Myers, Stephanie Rauch, Melanie Powell-St.John and Vickie Gage; one grandson, Nicholas O’Farrell; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday, May 16, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Brad Sullivan officiating.
Interment will follow in Godwin Cemetery with military honors.
Family will receive friends, Friday evening May 15, 2015, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Nancy Edward Gauthier, 81 of Pensacola, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2015.
Nancy was born on September 5, 1933, in Flomaton, to the late James M. and Frances Edwards.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Gauthier; and her parents.
Nancy is survived by her children, Eddie Birch, Mary Birch (Larry) Palmer, Kathy Birch (Donnie) Wilkinson, James Birch, and Angie Gauthier (John) LaButti; grandchildren, Shon Simpson, Dana Cop, Laura Simpson, and Chris Palmer; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Simpson, Justin Hinson, Elliott Copp, and Chance Mayne; brother, James Edwards; and sister, Peggy Bowman.

Melba Barry

Melba Barry, 86, a Pensacola native, died peacefully in her sleep Friday, May 8, 2015. Melba was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Barry; and her parents, Mamie and Ernest McLain; and brothers, John and Ernest, Jr.
Melba is survived by her five children, Robert Barry and wife, Betty of Ocala, FL, Delores and husband, Richard Simmons of Pensacola, Penny and husband, John Covotta of Pensacola, Michael Barry and wife, Laurie of Houston, TX, and Judy and husband, Roger Wade of Durham, NC.; four grandchildren, Michael Earl and wife, Tamara Barry, Kelly and husband, Eddie McLane, Kristyn Covotta; and Joshua Barry; six great-grandchildren, Meghan and Riley McLane, Emily, Ryan, Cameron and Aiden Barry; and her nephew, Donald and wife, Berniece McLain. Melba also leaves behind her loving dog, Karma, who enjoys potato chips as much as she did. Melba loved flower design, which she shared with her daughters. She was a member of Pensacola Garden Club as well as several neighborhood garden associations. Many of her arrangements were awarded ribbons of distinction.
As a member of Credit Professionals International, she held both state and local offices. She retired from Gayfers in January of 1992, after 27 years of service. She attended Little Flower Catholic Church in Myrtle Grove, St. Michael Catholic Church in Pensacola a d St. Mary Catholic Church in Brent. Melba was the instrumental guidance in sponsoring the development of the Memorial Rose Garden located beside Little Flower Church. She dedicated the initial first rose bush to her beloved husband, Bill, in remembrance of their 46 years of marriage. Melba especially enjoyed participating in St. Mary’s Joyful Noise Group and the Women’s Study Group. She was very active in each church community. Melba leaves not only a loving family but many friends. Her legacy to everyone is the sheer idea of never giving up on anyone (including one’s self) and to always love each other. She was truly loved in life and that love will continue in our hearts.
Family and friends alike were very aware of her attraction to “everything butterflies”. She once explained this as a life journey living in a cocoon and at death we are freed in the form of a butterfly to fly to our heavenly Father.
Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Pensacola with Reverend Father Eugene Pathe as celebrant.
Burial was at Barrancas National Cemetery aboard NAS Pensacola.
