Martha Mosley Cooper

Martha Mosley Cooper,66 of Atmore, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2015, in Mobile. She was born on December 21, 1948, to the late William and Lillian Luker Mosley.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Ann Mosley; and two brothers, Norman Mosley and Donald Ray Mosley.
Survivors include two brothers, Ronald (Faye) Mosley and Wayne Mosley all of Atmore; three sisters, Laura Ikner of Atmore, Linda Kirchharr and Nora(Pete) Weaver all of Bay Minette; special aunt, Mazie Joiner of Perdido; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Graveside services were held Friday, August 28, 2015, in Oak Hill Cemetery with Sis. Helen Stewart Officiating.
Interment will follow was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were her nephews.

Betty S. Lee
August 31, 2015
Betty S. Lee, 71 of Atmore, passed away August 28, 2015, in Atmore. She was born on December 17, 1943, to the late Norvell and Rosie King Sanders in Ozark, AL. She had worked as a custodian at the First United Methodist Church of Atmore for many years.
She is survived by her husband Jimmy Lee of Atmore, son Stephen (Bridgett) Lee of Counce, TN, and daughter Connie (Craig) Penn of Daleville, AL; four brothers Herman Sanders of Atmore, Wayne Sanders of Pensacola, Roger Sanders and Joe Sanders both of Birmingham; sister Gail Calhoun of Dothan, AL; two grandsons John Brickhouse and Eric Ward;and one granddaughter, Kayla Rinks.
The family will be holding a private visitation.

Van Gary Duncan
August 31, 2015
Van Gary Duncan went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 26, 2015. He left this earth peacefully and entered the Gates of Heaven at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on July 9, 1941 in Gilbertsville, KY. He moved with his family to Pensacola, FL at the age of 11. He played football at Tate High School and graduated there in 1959. In 1960 he joined the United States Navy. During his Navy career, he earned many awards and medals. He received a Navy Commendation Medal from the Secretary of the Navy for his heroism in rescuing five shipmates from berthing compartments flooded with carbon dioxide gas on board the USS Mattabesset on July 17, 1968. He retired a Senior Chief from the Navy in 1980. He then worked Civil Service in Groton, CT for 10 years as supervisor of ship building. In 1992, he transferred to Pensacola, FL and worked 13 years at NAS, retiring in 2003.
He enjoyed fishing, boating and taking care of his yard. His yard was always immaculate. He was also a master woodworker who could build anything. He was a member of Three Rivers Church in Seminole, AL. He loved God, his church, church family, and pastor. In 1989, he married Joan, the love of his life. He spent the rest of his life loving and taking care of his precious wife and children. He was a family man and always enjoyed being with family and telling old stories. He also adored his little dog “Scout”. They were pretty much inseparable. He always had a smile and his laughter was contagious. He was loving, kindhearted and his integrity was beyond measure. If you knew him, you couldn’t help but love him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Van Hubert Duncan; his mother, Ruby Alice Leonard; and his sister, Donna Gail Duncan.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Duncan; four children, Gerald (Karen) Campbell, Phyllis (Jeff) Craft, Bill (Karen) Campbell, and Steven (Shellie) Campbell; one brother, Cecil (Nancy) Duncan; two brothers-in-law, Donald McCrory and Benny McCrory; sister-in-law, Bonifay Stacey; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; one niece and one nephew; and many other friends and loved ones.
We would like to give special thanks to Gentiva Hospice and special friend, Hazel Byrd, for making his last days comfortable.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2015 with Pastor Dan Lowery officiating. Burial will follow in Barrancas National Cemetery.

Carl “Doug” Martin

Mr. Carl “Doug” Martin, 64, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2015, in Pensacola.
Mr. Martin was a native and lifelong resident of Bratt. Mr. Martin was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a hardworker who loved gardening and fishing. His nine month old granddaughter was light of his life. He was of the Baptist faith. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruben and Nettie Martin; three brothers, Robert, Shirley and Barnard Ray Martin; and one sister, Lilly Goldman.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Sharon Bailey Martin of Bratt; one on, Adam Martin of Bratt; one daughter, Audra Martin of Bratt; one brother, Carol (Joy) Martin of Atmore; one sister, Shelby (Jake) Hatcher of Atmore; and one grandchild, Layla Martin.
Graveside services were held Thursday, August 27, 2015, at the Godwin Cemetery with Rev. Henry Wilson officiating.
Pallbearers were Benjamin Martin, Michael Chavers, Andrew Redden, Tommy Redden, Blake Young and Jacob Bailey.

Annie Mae Laird Lawson

Annie Mae Laird Lawson of Century, joined our Savior on August 26, 2015. She was 91 and passed from natural causes.
Mrs. Lawson was born in Potwin, KS on July 4, 1924. She was raised in Moultrie, GA where she graduated and married Lester Lawson April 22, 1941. They resided in Tallahassee until 1969 when they relocated to Pensacola. She was a patient and supportive teacher at both Beggs Vocational School and Ferry Pass Middle School. She retired in 1984.
Mrs. Lawson was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Lester Lawson;and son, Lewis Floyd “Bucky” Lawson.
She is survived by her four remaining children, Judith Mantell (Charles) of Brentwood, CA, Betty (James) Hodges of Lloyd, FL, John William Lawson (Rhonda) of Cantonment and Sharon Waldron (James, deceased) of Century; 14 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Lawson will be buried in Moultrie, GA with graveside services at West View Cemetery on August 30, 2015, at 4 p.m.

Eunice (Stokes) Qualls

Eunice (Stokes) Qualls, age 87, of McLellan Community in Milton, passed away August 25, 2015.
She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Reverend William F. Qualls; son, Allen Qualls; and daughter, Faye (Rodney) Brown, 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 11 great- great-grandchildren. She considered all her church as her family and their children as her grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Friday, August 28, 2015, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home.
Services will be held Saturday, August 29, 2015, at 10 a.m. with Bro. Danny Carnley and Bro. Jimmy Pitman officiating.
Burial will follow at Valley Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be great-grandsons.
The family would like to thank Santa Rosa Health and Rehab care facility for the good care they provided her.

John Brian (JB) Holland

Mr. John Brian (JB) Holland was born on March 30, 1995, to Stephanie Holland in Mobile.
JB attended Escambia County High School in Atmore. After high school, JB went to Ohio and various other areas doing pipeline work. JB loved trucks (loud trucks) mud riding, and Alabama football. He was a true country boy.
JB departed this life on Sunday, August 23, 2015. He will be cherished in the hearts of his loving mother Stephanie Holland of Atmore and her partner Alma Taylor of Bay Minette; twin sisters, Kim and Kelly Holland of Atmore; cousins, Brittney, Lacy, Derrick and Christina Holland of Atmore; grandparents, Johnny Holland of Atmore, Glen and Helen Wolfe of Bay Minette, Aunt Pam and Uncle Will Lambert of Atmore, a host of other baby cousins, relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be Friday, August 28, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Grindle officiating.

Aaron S. Hodge

Aaron S. Hodge, a family man in every sense of the word, passed away on August 23, 2015. He was born on October 22, 1953, in Atmore and was the son of Jack and Peggy Hodge. He worked as a machine operator with Smurfit-Stone Container for over 25 years and retired from working at Plastic Coated Papers in 2012. He resided in Cantonment for the past 15 years with his wife, Tammy Hodge. Aaron had a love for casting his net out at Fort Morgan. His joy was to share his time fishing with others or fellowshipping with friends and family. He loved to spend time with the Merry Makers and the Band of Brothers groups of the First Baptist Church of Cantonment. He especially liked to join the church ladies for game day and enjoyed a good old-fashioned potluck. Most of all, he felt his best when his house was full of grandchildren. We will miss his ‘crabby’ sense of humor, hippie hairdos, and silly pranks.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy; his daughter, Naomi Conner; his son, Jeremiah; and daughter through marriage, Christal Bell; his parents, Jack and Peggy Hodge; his sister, Susan McCrory; and brothers, Jackie and David; and seven grandchildren, Angel, Taylor, Lucas, Mallory, Hannah, Avery and Mylo. The family of Aaron would like to extend thanks to all for their continued love and support.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2015, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Rev. Larry Huff and Rev. Ricky Skaggs, officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Scotty Jordan, 38, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2015, in Atmore.
Mr. Jordan was a native and life long resident of Atmore. Mr. Jordan was an avid Alabama Football Fan and co-owner of S & K Glass. He is preceded in death by his mother, Vicki Jordan.
Survivors include his father, Kenny Jordan of Atmore; two sons, Ridge Jordan of Atmore and Cole Jordan of Atmore; one brother, Casey (Jennifer) Jordan of Atmore; one sister, Brandi Short of Medford, OR; grandmother, Patsy Patch of Atmore and other relatives and friends.

Daniel Lee Shroyer

Daniel Lee Shroyer was born on May 27,1934, in Warsaw, IN. His parents were Daniel Robert “Bob” Shroyer and Mildred Sophia Van Curen. He was raised on the family farm at Chapman Lake, where he learned the family trade. In his late teens he moved in with his great-grandparents, Lewis E and Lillie (Makemson) Shroyer. This is the farm he would later buy and operate. He raised corn, wheat, rye, soy beans, tomatoes, and other crops. Dan went to school in Leesburg, IN, from the first grade until graduation. His first grade teacher would later be the first grade teacher for Elizabeth and John. Dan graduated in 1952. Later that year he married the love of his life, Betty Jane Thorne. They met at a Future Teachers of the America meeting at North Manchester College, while in high school. Dan and Betty were married 59 years.
After getting married Dan and Betty had four children, Elizabeth Ann, Lewis Eugene, David Lee, and John Robert. Dan worked on and off the farms. He owned a total of four farms, three of the farms were in Indiana, one in North Carolina. While farming his favorite tractor was the Ford 8N (which he owned three or four), he also owned a Ford 901 with Select-O-Speed, a Ford 4000, an McCormick Deering Model H, and a Model M, and he owned a CO-OP Cockshutt Tractor. His children learned to drive on these tractors. Dan’s interest included working on the farm, gardening, his family, camping, genealogy, and traveling. His travel’s included trips to the Alamo, New Orleans, Yellowstone, Detroit (the Ford Museum), Chicago (the Museum of Science and Industry and the zoo), many trips to Florida before moving there, the Grand Canyon, Arizona, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, trips to Virginia, North Carolina mountains and more. Dan worked for the US Post Office, as a family farmer, The Indianapolis Ramsey News Agency, Santa Barbara Newspaper, Prudential Insurance, Mishawaka Wholesale, Weatherhead Corporation, Dana Corporation, McDonald Hydraulics and the St of FL Dept. of Corrections, which is where he retired from in 1996. This meant he lived in many locations; Warsaw, In; Santa Maria CA; Waukesha, WI; Columbia City ,IN; Gastonia, NC (this is when he owned the farm in NC); Lakeland, FL; and Jay, FL, where he lived when he passed.
The family wishes to thank Dr. David Smith and his staff at Jay Medical, Dr. George Smith, Dr. Mark Elder, and the staff at Jay Hospital, and the staff at Amedysis Home Health Care, especially nurses Jackie and Kimberly.
Dan was preceeded in death by his parents; loving wife Betty; granddaughters, Caroline Yvonne Shroyer and Jennifer Renee’ Shroyer.
He is survived by his sisters, Susie (Nelson) Sutton and Julia (Kart) Goon; brothers, William (Marilyn) Shroyer and Lloyd (Becky) Shroyer; daughter, Elizabeth Ann (Dean) Dellinger; sons, Lewis Eugene Shroyer, David Lee (Julia) Shroyer and John Robert (Lori) Shroyer; grandsons, Daniel Anthony Shroyer, and Robert Eugene Dellinger; and granddaughter, Amy Virginia Louise Shroyer; step-grandson, Johnny Shaw; and granddaughters, Alician and Katie Shaw.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at 4 p.m. at Jay United Methodist Church.
A visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m.
