Mattie Likolehua Kittrell

Mattie Likolehua Kittrell, age 80, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2015, surrounded by her family. She was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who made sure to pass down her Hawaiian heritage to all of them. Mattie was of Catholic faith. She enjoyed gardening and singing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Omer and Zenobia Littrell; and her brother, Omer Littrell, Jr.

She is survived by her sons, John (Theresa) Kittrell Jr. and Kelvin Kittrell; daughter, Charna (Jack) Rainey; grandsons, John Kittrell, III and Weston Nelson; granddaughters, Kattie Kittrell Rule, Natasha Nelson, Kimberly Kittrell Fuqua, Leilani Kittrell and Lehua Kittrell; and six great-grandchildren. She was deeply loved by all and will be truly missed.

The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North. Services will follow at 1 p.m.

Louis James “Freddie” Taylor

Louis James “Freddie” Taylor passed away Friday, December 4, 2015.

Louis was born May 11, 1930 in Kinston, North Carolina to Fred and Pauline Taylor. Louis attended Grainger High School in Kinston, N.C. until he joined the Navy in 1948. Louis was stationed in Pensacola, when he met his lifelong soul mate, Marilyn Bailey. Louis and Marilyn were married in Biloxi, MS on October 24, 1950. Louis and Marilyn completed their family with the birth of their son, Michael James in September 1953. While in the Navy, he played left halfback with the Pensacola Navy Goshawks. Louis retired from the Navy in 1967 and settled with his family in Pensacola.

Freddie is reunited and having a traditional family North Carolina pig picking in heaven with his father and stepmother, Fred and Lillian Francis Taylor. Joining in the celebration is his mother, Pauline Whaley; sister, Sandra Kay Perry; and his brother, Roger Douglas Taylor.

Louis is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marilyn B. Taylor; son, Michael J. Taylor; daughter-in-law, Lisa M. Taylor and two beautiful granddaughters; Jacquelyn M. Taylor and Amanda K. Taylor; Amanda and Randy Boehringer gave Freddie two big and handsome great-grandchildren, Randal “Freddie” and Grant Campbell Boehringer. He is also survived by his sisters, Elizabeth “Libby” Keel, Judy Glenn Scott and Francis (Bryce) Outlaw; brothers, Fred Thomas (Marla) Taylor, Ronald Bruce “Goose” (Wanda) Taylor and Kenneth Earl (Vernelle) Edwards.

Services will be held Wednesday, December 9, 2015, at 11:30 a.m. at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North in Cantonment with Reverend David Shofner officiating.

Burial services will be at 1:15 p.m. at Barrancas National Cemetery.

Leslie Leon Johnson

December 8, 2015

Mr. Leslie Leon Johnson, age 74, of Flomaton, passed away at home on Saturday, December 5, 2015. Mr. Johnson was a framing contractor, avid hunter and fisherman. He was born to Leslie Lee and Jessie B. Barrow Byrd.

He is preceded in death by his parents and stepfather Richard Byrd; son, Kenneth Johnson; sister, Lillie Mae Hill; and brother, Eddie Lee Johnson.

He is survived by his spouse, JoAnn; son, Richard and daughter-in-law, Tonya Johnson of Flomaton; six grandchildren, Brandon and Ashley Burkett, Tiffanie, Shane, Shawn, Little Richard (Buba) and Kelly Johnson. eight great-grandchildren; brother and sisters-in-law; one niece, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Roxanne Michele Ward

Roxanne was a 50 year old beloved mother of three and a grandmother “Mimi “of three, as well as a dear friend to many.

She was born in Pascagoula, MS, but resided in Molino.

She was a former cosmetologist and registered nurse, who had a burning passion for taking care of people and working hard. She was an active Christian who lived for the Lord. She was an extremely selfless, caring person who loved her children, grandchildren, family, and friends more than anything.

Everyone knew her for the sweet, strong-willed person she was, who never let anyone go hungry or without feeling loved. She always knew how to make everyone laugh or smile and brought joy into every room she entered. She never had self-pity and put up her best fight until the very end. She will be forever missed.

Roxanne is preceded in death by her father, Buford Wade; husband, James Ward; and grandparents, Tommy and Marie “Mamaw Ree” Rigdon.

She is survived by her two daughters, Brandy Ishee and Carly Ward; son, Jacob Ward; mother, Betty Wade; sister, Deirdre (Steve) Everett; two aunts, Becky (Mike) McLemore and Marjorie Manushaw; three grandchildren, Hagen, Johnathan and Yazmin; cousin, Cinnamon Walters; two nieces, Bailey and Brooke Everett; and longtime friend (sister ) Jamie Shaw.

Terry Jerome Blanton

Mr. Terry Jerome Blanton, 61, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2015, in Monroeville, AL.

Mr. Blanton was a native of Bratt and a resident of Atmore for the past 11 years, and former resident of Walnut Hill. Mr. Blanton was a member of the Bratt First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and senior Men’s Sunday school class teacher.

Mr. Blanton is preceded in death by his parents, Elwood and Marjorie Blanton and grandparents, Grover and Edna Blanton.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Blanton of Atmore; one son, Nicholas and Jennifer Blanton of Tampa; step mother Ginger Blanton of Bratt; eight brothers and sisters; uncles and aunts Ellyn and Carolyn Blanton of Atmore; Mike and Renee Godwin of Davisville; Ouida Wiggins of Bratt; Glenn Harold of Titusville, FL; Amaryllis and Bobby Davis of Atmore; two grandchildren Ian Gabriel Blanton and Ethan Jackson Blanton.

Funeral Services for Mr. Blanton will be at Bratt First Baptist Church Wednesday, December 9t at 2 p.m. Rev Lance Blackburn, and Rev. Delbert Redditt conducting service. Burial will follow service at Godwin Cemetery with military honors.

Doris Carnley Lee

Doris Carnley Lee was born December 6, 1927, in Jay and departed this life on December 2, 2015, to enter into an eternity of joy in Heaven with her Lord and Savior. Upon marriage to Elver O. Lee in September 21, 1950, she became a resident of Saraland.

Mrs. Doris Lee (“Granny”) was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great, grandmother, and trusted friend. She was always ready with a big smile, words of wisdom, a big hug and kiss, or lodging for weary travelers. The love that she showed for her family and friends was inspiring and was her hallmark of character. Even though in her later years she was with pain and suffering, her strength in the Lord and being a prayer warrior was an example to be admired. She will be missed but we know she had a higher calling. Rest in the Lord, good and faithful servant.

She was preceded in death by her parents, C.P. and Naomi Carnley of Jay.

Mrs. Lee is survived by her husband of 65 years, Elver O. Lee; daughters, Olivia Lee Thompson (Pat) and Ann Lee Ray (Gary); son, Paul Lee; grandchildren, Jason Ray (April) and Ashley Ray; and great-grandchildren, Peyton Ray and Andrew Owens.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to a devoted sister-in-law, Imogene Tolbert, AseraCare, and Summer, Kay, Jan, and Essie.

Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home in Saraland on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at 11 a.m.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, December 7, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Glen Rooks Dunaway

December 3, 2015

Glen Dunaway, 95, of Molino, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2015. He served in the Army during WWII and worked for the local paper mill as a forester for many years. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

He is preceded in death by his son, John; mother, Jahaza; father, Lee; brothers, Marvin and James; and sisters, Una and Hazel.

He is survived by his wife, Claire; daughter, Amy (Anthony) Adams; daughter-in-law, Susie Dunaway; grandchildren, Alyssa, Johnny, Aaron, and Aadan; sister, Jewel, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Century Health and Rehabilitation Center for their excellent and loving care of Glen.

Visitation will be held at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North on Saturday, December 5, 2015, at 1 p.m. followed by the memorial service at 2 p.m. with Reverend Jimmy Cook officiating.

Michael “Justin” Jarrell

December 2, 2015

Michael “Justin” Jarrell, of Cantonment, age 25, passed away November 28, 2015.  He was an avid bow hunter and fisherman.  Justin attended Tate High School and was especially proud of his sponsorship by Bill Smith Electric Company to attend the journeyman electrician program at the George Stone Technical Center.  He will be remembered for his passion for life and devotion to his family and friends.

Justin is preceded in death by his grandfathers, William G. Norman and Donald L. Jarrell.

He is survived by his parents, Barry and Barbara Jarrell; his sister, Jessica L. Jarrell; grandparents, Joseph and Patricia Sodomka and Estelle Norman and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 3, at  2 p.m. at Faith Chapel North. Friends are welcome to visit one hour  prior to the service.

Julian W. Godwin

December 2, 2015

Julian W. Godwin, age 92, went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 25, 2015. He was a native of Oak Grove, FL, but had resided in Pensacola since 1943. Mr. Godwin graduated from Ernest Ward High School in 1941. He served in World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army, 102nd Infantry Division, Company 1, 403 Infantry Regiment. Mr. Godwin served in the European Theater of Operation during combat and occupation. He was honored to wear the Combat-Infantry Badge, and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in battle. On April 30, 2008, he flew on the first Emerald Coast Honor Flight for WWII Veterans from Pensacola to visit the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Godwin was employed by the Naval Aviation Depot at Naval Air Station Pensacola for 41 years. He retired as a Quality Control Specialist in June, 1985. Mr. Godwin was a Christian and a member of Olive Baptist Church for over 38 years, where he was a member of the Vaughn Urquhart Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #310 in Century for over 50 years.

Mr. Godwin is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Bertie; two sisters, Armentine and Mary Evelyn; one sister-in-law, Bobbie June Godwin; one brother-in law, Earl Fore; and one nephew, Dwight Godwin.

Mr. Godwin is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years and eight months, Burnis Godwin; one son, Steve (Shirley) Godwin; one precious granddaughter, Leslie Ann Godwin; two sisters, Joyce Fore and Betty Ann (Donald) Dennis; one brother, Roy “Buddy” (Marvette) Godwin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Covenant Hospice at West Florida Hospital for their dedicated care.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2015, at Faith Chapel North in Cantonment.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. at Faith Chapel North with Dr. Jerry Passmore officiating.

Burial will be in Bayview Cemetery with military honors.

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Vaughn Urquhart Sunday School Class.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Relaunch Building Program at Olive Baptist Church in Pensacola.

James W. Bill Robinson

December 2, 2015

Mr. James W. Bill Robinson, 78, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2015, in Atmore.

Mr. Robinson was a native of Atmore, former resident of Newark, NY and resided in Atmore since 1995. Mr. Robinson was in the VFW and American Legion. He was a member of  Brooks Memorial Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy N. Robinson; parents, Ollie and Ethel Robinson; two sisters, Hazel R. Chamberlin and Evelyn Wellnitz; and two brothers, Robert Robinson and Jesse Earl Robinson.

Survivors include his son, Allen Gray Robinson of Pensacola; two step-sons, Gerald Sullivan of Newark, NY and Robert Sullivan of Newark, NY; one daughter, Darlene Robinson Grissett of Pensacola; three step-daughters, Dawn Faulkerson of Newark, NY, Deborah Price of Newark, NY and Cynthia Cruz of Atlanta, GA; one brother, Eddie A. (Linda) Robinson of Mobile; one sister, Kathryn (Charles) Pezent of Jackson, AL; one grandchild; numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a wonderful caregiver, Kim Bright.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 30, 2015, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Heard officiating.

Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ryan Pezent, DeWayne Robinson, Gerald Sullivan, Tom Cruz, Aubrey Till and Raymond Kinman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sunday school class at Brooks Memorial Baptist Church.
