Dorothy Reynolds Drew

Mrs. Dorothy Reynolds Drew, age 98, of McCullough, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2016. She was born in Franklin, AL, to the late Parker and Hattie McKinley Reynolds. She worked at Vanity Fair Mills for many years. She served for several years as a Pink Lady at Atmore Nursing Care Center and Atmore Community (Greenlawn) Hospital. She was a member of Booneville Baptist church where she was actively involved until her health failed. She knew her Bible, was an avid Scrabble player and loved her books on tape.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Drew.
Mrs. Drew is survived by three children, Terral Wayne Drew (Gay) of McCullough, Deanie Booker (Jimmy) of Huxford and Byron Ray Drew of Gainesville, GA; five grandsons, Terral Rus Drew (Kim) of Columbus, GA, Richard F. Drew (Jenn Mitchell) of Ft. Bragg, NC, Eddie Booker (Monica) of Uriah, Todd Booker of Huxford and Jamie Booker (Melanie) of Fairhope; four great-grandchildren, Anna Katherine Drew and Ryan Drew of Columbus and Travis and Lane Booker of Uriah; numerous Reynolds and Drew nieces and nephews; dear friends, Polly Kirby, Alberta Johnson and Lucille Killingsworth, all of McCullough and Ann Walker Howell of Bay Minette; and many others.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 16, 2016, with the Rev. Loretta Reynolds (niece) of Berea, KY officiating. The Rev. Jessie Woods will assist. Darlene (niece) and Terry Boyette and Christy Roberts will provide music.
Interment was at McCullough Cemetery.
Larry Wayne Merchant

Mr. Larry Wayne Merchant, 63, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, in Pensacola.
Mr. Merchant was a native of Bluff Springs and a resident of Century most of his life. He was a loving husband, father and papa. He was of the Baptist faith. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Grace Merchant; wife, Michelle Merchant; one sister, JoAnn Blackwell; and five brothers, Steve, Jerry, Nathan, William and Richard Merchant.
He is survived by his two daughters, Ame (Dempsey Hadley) Roley of Bluff Springs and Cindi (Johnny) Mathis of Flomaton; two brothers, Jack Merchant of Bluff Springs and John Barron Merchant of California; one sister, Linda Ingram of Ozark, AL; four grandchildren, Brianna, Brittanie, Bailie and Brylen; and one great-grandchild, Landen Wayne.
Graveside services were Friday, January 15, 2016, at the Crary Cemetery with Rev. Robert Barrow officiating.
Burial was in the Crary Cemetery.

Ida Comeaux Black

Mrs. Ida Comeaux Black, 85, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, in Jay.
Mrs. Black was a native of Youngsville, LA and a resident of Century since 1960. Mrs. Black was a loving wife, mother and extra special grandmother. She was a seamstress and she will be well missed by all. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses of Flomaton. She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Ellie Black, Sr.; parents, Maurice, Sr. and Eufrazie Comeaux; two sisters; and one brother.
She is survived by her three sons, Glynn (Donna) Black of Deatesville, AL, Ellie, Jr. (Belinda) Black of Seminole, AL and Donald Black of Century; one daughter, Linda Black Davis of Bratt; one brother, Haywood Comeaux of Rayne, LA; one sister, Dorothy Guidry of Fort Deposit, AL; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 16, 2016, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Mr. Richard Ash officiating.
Burial was at the Huxford Community of Christ Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Caleb Barentine, Shawn Black, Hunter Davis, Tyler Davis, Glynn James Black, Jr., Cody Black and Luke Whedbee.

Laura J. Calhoun Hawthorne, age 84, of Dixonville, passed away on January 17, 2016. She resided in Jay since 1970. She was a member of the Jay First Baptist Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and friend to those that knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Dewey and Della Margaret Kilngensmith; husband, Ralph A. Calhoun; three sisters, Evelyn Mann, Audrey Lockhart, and Alberta Beers; and two brothers, Sonny and Homer Kilngensmith.
She is survived by her son, Randall (Dora) Sarver; daughter, Susan (Leon) Cominsky; daughter, Melanie (Paul) Smith and son, Michael (Kathy) Sarver and numerous loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2016, at 12 p.m. at Jay First Baptist Church with Rev. Chip Fox and Rev. George Fredericks officiating.
Burial will follow at the Dixonville Community Church Cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until service time.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Flowers or memorial contributions may be made to Jay First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Essie V. Cox, 93, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2016, in Pensacola.
Mrs. Cox was a native of Red Level, Alabama and a resident of Atmore, AL for most of her life. Mrs. Cox was retired from Vanity Fair with 23 years of service and she attended the New Home Apostolic Church. She is preceded in death by her Husband, Henry H. Cox, three Brothers, Wilburn Harrelson, Grady Harrelson and Marvin Kelly and one Sister, Pauline Mitchell.
Survivors include her three sons, James (Diane) Cox of Knoxville, TN, Bill (Marilyn) Cox of Tampa, and Wade (Denise) Cox of Atmore; three daughters, Pat (Tim) Simmons of Pensacola, Elizabeth Davis of Pensacola and Judy (Steve) Heintz of Silver Spring, MD; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Heintz officiating.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jason Cox, Jacob Thomas, Tim Simmons, Rodney Davis, Sam Kelly and Jake Kelly.

Raymond Earl Conway

Raymond Earl Conway, 74 of Bon Secour, AL, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2015, in Foley. He was retired from Alabama Power Co. as a truck driver with over 27 years of service. He was born on November 4, 1941, in Canoe to the late Buford and Alma Lee Marshall Conway. He was a member of Oster Bay Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Holland Conway; one son, Chris (Stephanie) Conway, all of Bon Secour; one daughter, Cindy (Keith) Welch of Foley; two grandchildren, Payton and Garrett.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at 2 p.m. in Canoe Freewill Cemetery with Bro. Jerry Peebles officiating.
Interment will follow in Canoe Freewill Cemetery.
Family will receive friends, Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.

William Earl Gulley

William Earl Gulley was born April 8, 1947, to the late Walter Byron and Allie Blackmon Gulley in Robinsonville. He was a graduate of Escambia County High School in Atmore. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a longtime carpenter with the local union in Pensacola, FL. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nancy Yvonne Gulley.
He is survived by his brothers; Walter Winston Gulley, Joseph Calvin Gulley, James LeByron Gulley and Thomas Alford Gulley. He is also survived by his two nephews, Walter Scott Gulley and Mark Allan Gulley; and one niece, Melissa Karel Gulley.
The family would like to thank the administration and staff at William H. Green V.A. Nursing Home in Bay Minette for their compassionate care since September 2013 and a special thanks to Veterans Service Officer Mike Hanks.
The family owes an enduring debt to Gary and Sandra Hare for the many visitations, support with V.A. appointments, business, and personal matters. This couple has demonstrated Christian love over and over again. The family sincerely appreciates this love.

Earl Ben Reynolds

Earl Ben Reynolds, 91, of Atmore, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016, in Atmore. He was retired after more than 38 years of service as a freight agent with the L&N and CSX Railroad. He was born in Atmore on April 11, 1924, to the late Bergen and Nobie Lloyd Reynolds. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was stationed at Panama Canal and trained at Ft. Braggs. He was a member of Martinville Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Myra Jane Reynolds; five brothers, and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Lee Knight Reynolds; two sons, Earl Eugene (Bobbie) Reynolds and Christopher Allan Reynolds all of Atmore; grandchildren, Michael Reynolds and Heather Reynolds; great-grandchildren, James Reynolds and Jeremy Reynolds.
Services were held Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Sonny Willingham and Bro. Willie Olgesby officiating.
Interment was in Serenity Gardens.

Emma Glen O’Farrell Parker

Emma Glen O’Farrell Parker, our sweet mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and devoted friend, went home to be with Jesus on January 12, 2016, at the age of 82. She was a sweet, kind, gentle and beautiful person both inside and out, so full of love for her family, friends and her precious Lord and Savior. We are so thankful to know that she is rejoicing in the arms of God.
Our mother lived a full life with three children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was born and raised in Bratt. She raised her girls in Atmore.
She moved to Montgomery where she worked for Parisian for 25 years, a job she loved so very much. She centered her life around Frazer Church and her large group of close friends. She was a talented artist, who loved painting with her dear-devoted, life-long friend Martha Bell.
Our mother was preceded in death by her parents, Talton and Gadis O’Farrell; her first love and husband, Tommy White; brother, Buford O’Farrell; and sister Eloise O’Farrell.
Survivors include Judy A. (Lynn) Wetmore, Paula K. (O’Neal) Green and Shari E. (Dave) Reinhard; grandchildren, Jennifer K. (Wes) Adams, April J. (Mark) Terry, Meredith A. (Brannan) Reaves, Morgan A. Green, Nathan T. (Maggie) Reinhard and Adam D. Reinhard; great-grandchildren, Catie Martin, Colby Smith, Raegan Terry and Emma Reinhard; and her very special friend and paint-buddy, Martha M. Bell.
A special thanks to all the caregivers at Angels for the Elderly and the staff of Hospice of Montgomery for all the love, compassion and special care they gave her.
There will be a gathering of friends at the home of Paula and O’Neal Green on Thursday, January 14, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 15, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Oakhill Cemetery in Atmore.

Edwin Morse Diller

Edwin Morse Diller, 94, of Walnut Hill, passed away January 12, 2016, in Atmore. He was born on November 7, 1921, to the late Harvey and Rachel Johnson Diller in Ithaca, Michigan. He is preceded in death by a infant daughter; two brothers; and four sisters.
He farmed for over 40 years where he earned the Outstanding Farm Family of 1970 award, the Certificate of Merit award for Outstanding Accomplishment in Soil Conservation in 1996 Perdido River Soil Conservation District, the Distinguished Service award for 10 years service with the Perdido River Soil Conservation District and was the first to market wheat in commercial quantities in Atmore.
He loved serving the Lord and was an Elder at Liberty Church in Pensacola; a Gideon and active member of the First Assembly of God in Atmore. He truly loved his family.
He was an avid traveler, fishermen and scuba diver.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Loewen Diller of Walnut Hill; one son, Kelvin (Connie) Diller of Walnut Hill; two daughters, Sharon (Richard) Keesler of Walnut Hill and Carrol (Darrell) Liechty of Pensacola; his much beloved nine grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 16, 2016, at 11 a.m. from the First Assembly of God in Atmore with Rev. Don Davis officiating.
Burial will follow in Walnut Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Clint Keesler, David Liechty, Jonathan Liechty, Michael Diller, Joshua Fulford and Will Douglas.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 16, 2016, from 10 a.m. until service time at the First Assembly of God in Atmore.
