George L. Hansford

George L. Hansford, 92, was born on October 12, 1923, in Altha, FL and had resided in Pensacola since 1963. He passed away peacefully on December 22, 2015, surrounded by his family. George enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and served his country for almost 19 years. Following his military service, he was employed at Sacred Heart Hospital for 20 years, retiring as the Assistant Director of Environmental Services. In retirement, he enjoyed his passion which was fishing and did it as often as he could, and passed that same passion down to his son and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Lois Kent Hansford.
He is survived by a devoted and loving son, John Hansford; daughter-in-law, Cecilia Hansford; grandchildren, Christopher (Karol) Hansford, Kelsey Hansford and a great-grandchild, Payton Hansford all of Pensacola; sister, Joyce Nielsen of Tallahassee, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Baptist Hospital, especially Dr. Edwin Rodgers and all of the staff at the Joyce Goldenberg Hospice Residence.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to be made in his honor to the Joyce Goldenberg Hospice Residence, 10075 Hillview Rd, Pensacola, FL 32514.
A graveside service will be held at Bayview Memorial Park Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at 2 p.m.

Shirley Ann Hall Leonard, age 69, of Jay, passed away December 26, 2015, in Pensacola. She was a lifelong resident of Jay, a member of Pine Level Baptist Church and worked at West Florida Hospital for many years. She was a loving sister, aunt, and friend to those that knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George W and Lovie Hall.
She is survived by her brother, George W Hall of Pea Ridge; sister, Nell Blackwell of Jay; and nephew, James Blackwell of Pensacola.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2015, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at Concord Cemetery.

Joel T. “Pat” Patterson

Joel T. “Pat” Patterson, 80, of Seminole, AL passed away Monday, December 21, 2015. He was born and raised in Limestone County, AL. In high school, Pat played basketball, baseball, football and ran track for West Limestone High School. He held the high jump record for years. He served two years in the U.S. Army at the Panama Canal, moved to Pensacola in 1959 with Chemstand Corporation and retired after more than 30 years. He played softball for Chemstrand and was known for his pitching style. He coached his daughters’ softball teams and was known as Coach “P”.
He is preceded in death by his father, Grady Patterson; mother, Amy Belle Patterson; brothers, Eugene Patterson and Hartwell Patterson; sister, Sarah Schrimsher.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Rose Patterson; daughters, Tina Patterson-Reece and Joy and Jimmy Norton; grandsons, Ryne (Traci) Norton and Cameron Reece; granddaughter, Sarah Norton; and a very special niece, Gina Schrimsher.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Joyce Goldenberg Hospice Residence, 10075 Hillview Road, Pensacola, FL 32514.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.

Sylvia Joan Johnson, 83 of Atmore, passed away Monday, December 21, 2015, in Mobile. She was a homemaker and also worked in retail for many years. She was born on March 13, 1932, in Sulligant, AL, to the late Thomas Garland and Alice Millican Strawbridge. She was an active member of the McRae Methodist Church in Atmore.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Johnson; one son, Jim Johnson; grandson, Chad Phillips; granddaughter, Brandi Sciro; three brothers, Priddy, James, and Ronald Strawbridge; one sister, Wadeema Guyton; and a son-in-law, Bill Phillips.
She is survived by her son, Charles Gary (Jana) Donaldson of Flomaton; four daughters, Judy (Clark) Thompson and Peggy Phillips, all of Atmore; Patty (Gerald) Parmer of Huxford and Marilyn (Danny) Stone of Birmingham; two brothers, Ollie (Rachel) Strawbridge of Destin and Lewis (Hazel) Strawbridge of Atmore; one sister, Sue (Clarence) Roley of Bay Minette; grandchildren, Shelley, Shane, Blake, Hope, Courtney, Valerie, Sheldon, Brandon, Chaselyn, Tiffany, Brannon, Brooke, Phillip and Robin; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and many special family and friends.
Services were held Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Hodge officiating.
Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Lucy B. Midgett

Lucy B. Midgett, 90, of Pensacola, passed away on Monday, December 21, 2015. She was born on April 9, 1925, in Westville, FL to the late Thomas and Francis Bauldree.
Lucy was in the United States Army during WII, as a nurse and was awarded the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service award and the VE Day award. Lucy was a nurse by trade. She loved fishing, playing the piano and guitar. Lucy’s main passion in life was being a mother and grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Gladys Wingate; her daughter, Bobbie Russell; and her son, Louis Ray Jones.
Lucy is survived by her four children, Patricia Garcia (David), Shirley Perkins (Bill), Gayle Childers (Rene), and Don Russell (Wendy).
Lucy has 152 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 28, 2015, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South with Bro. Gene Hudson officiating.
Burial will follow in Barrancas National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. prior to services.

Shirley S. Jackson, 76, of Bratt, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015, in Atmore. She was born on February 16, 1939, in Uriah, AL to the late Stephen Bud and Frances Rolin Stabler. She was a sub mail carrier for several years.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Horace C. Jackson.
She is survived by her children, Darrell Wayne (Linda) Jackson of Bratt and Pamela Jackson (Dewayne) Brown of Davisville; two sisters, Brenda (David) Morley of Mobile and Glenda Campbell of Pensacola; grandchildren, Nicholas Jackson, Meagan Travis, Chris Brown; and great-grandchildren Braedyn Jackson and Benton Travis.
Graveside services were held Saturday, December 26, 2015 at the Godwin Cemetery in Bratt, with Elder Harold Brown officiating.
Burial was in Godwin Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Dewayne Brown, Chris Brown, Nicholas Jackson and Frank “Punk” Jackson.

Barbara Ann McKay Ryland

Barbara Ann McKay Ryland, 61 of Atmore, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015. She was born July 13, 1954, to the late Wayne and Nellie Luke McKay in DeKalb, Missipppi and moved to Atmore three weeks later.
She was a retired educator with 30 years of service with the Escambia County Florida School System. She loved teaching and continued to substitute even after her retirement. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church Atmore. She loved her church family. She was a loving wife and she loved her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Wayne and Nellie McKay.
Survivors include her loving husband of 30 years, John Edward Ryland; three sisters, Sharon (George) McGhee, Carol (Steve) Killam, and Kim McKay; her mother-in-law, Estelle Bartley; three brothers-in- law, Ronnie ( Viola) Ryland, Donnie ( Kim) Ryland, and Edwin (Carol) Bartley, Sherry (Reth) Smith; four nieces, Nicole, Kellie, Candace, Tristan; and three nephews, Chase (Sydney), Hunter, Logan.
Those honored to serve as pall bearers are Steve Killam, George McGhee, Chase McGhee, Hunter McKay, Donnie Ryland, and Ronnie Ryland.
Honorary pall bearers are Whit Whitaker and Greg Wiggins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 26, 2015, at 2 p.m. from the First Baptist Church Atmore with the Rev. Arnold Hendrix officiating.

Barbara Sims Stewart

Mrs. Barbara Sims Stewart, of Century, passed from this life December 21, 2015. She was born December 9, 1928, in Walker County, AL, to Andrew A. and Loren G. Sims. She was a graduate of Carbon Hill High School and the University of Alabama School of Nursing in Birmingham.
She married Dr. Thomas J. Stewart in November 1951, and shortly thereafter came to Century where Dr. Stewart practiced medicine for the next forty years while Barbara worked full-time raising eight children. She was a devout Christian lady, worshipping with the congregation of the Flomaton Church of Christ through the years.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Allen B. Stewart; and brother, John Lynn Sims.
She is survived by children, Ann(Gary) Warrington of Lutts, TN, Marilyn (Randy) Chesnutt of Malibu, CA, Claudia (Louis) Avery of Macon, GA, Thomas A. (Tealla) Stewart of Vestavia Hills, AL, Julia (Dwight) Isenhower of Daphne, Barbara E. Stewart of Century and Marian Moore of Century; brothers, Hoyt (Faye) Sims of Carbon Hill, AL, Mike Sims of Wilsonville, AL, and Phillip (Joy) Sims of Huntsville, AL; and sister-in-law, Brenda Sims of Helena, AL; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family is indebted to those who provided the day-to-day care that our mother needed over the last few years including mom’s daughter, Barbara, Linda Dortch, Deborah Baldwin, Elizabeth Jenkins and Janice Grant.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 27, 2015, from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Flomaton Church of Christ with a memorial service to follow.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, December 28, 2015, at the Stewart Family Cemetery in Ralph, AL. Those wishing to attend the graveside service should meet at Robertson’s County Store, 17099 Ralph Loop Road, Ralph, AL, no later than 12:15 Monday afternoon. Due to the remote location of the cemetery, casual shoes and clothing are suggested.

Mrs. Rosa Lee Hollingsworth Crews, 97, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2015, in Pensacola.
Mrs. Crews was a native of Lottie, Alabama and a resident of Walnut Hill since 1938. Mrs. Crews retired from Vanity Fair in 1980. She was an avid flower gardener and a very good cook. She was a member of the Day Springs Community Church. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Jack Crews; two sons, Joe Crews and Buddy Crews; granddaughter, Krystle Knowles; two brothers, Ellison Hollingsworth and Dan Boatwright; and sister, Lilly Joiner.
She is survived by her daughter, Dianne Crews Hall of Walnut Hill; six grandchildren, Koty, Tonya, Charity, Amanda, Tommy and Rachel; and seven great-grandchildren, Phenix, Marrisa, Bella, Lynn, Jack, Elizabeth and Anna Bell.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 19, 2015, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Gipson, Rev. Ray McCullough and Rev. John Spence officiating.
Burial was in the Pineville Cemetery.

Mrs. Virginia Neal Cumbie Galvan, age 79 of Century, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2015, in Jay.
Mrs. Galvan was born in Clark County, AL and had been a resident of Century for 64 years coming from California. Mrs. Galvan worked as a Cardiopulmonary Technician at North Okaloosa Medical Center for many years. She was of the Pentecostal faith and a member of New Life Fellowship Church. Mrs. Galvan was preceded in death by her sons, Marcus Brunson and Daniel Brunson.
Survivors include her sons, Jose’ Galvan of Pensacola and Ricardo Galvan of Century; sister, Dorothy Hardy of Orlando; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tony Datuin officiating.
Interment was in Flomaton Cemetery in Flomaton.
Pallbearers were Lee Nixs, Josh Nixs, Nathan Galvan, Shane Hardee Tyler King, and Chase Tamondong.
