Robert Eugene Williams

Robert Eugene “Gene” Williams, 82 of Atmore, passed away Tuesday May 24, 2016, in Pensacola. He was a timber inspector employed with Huxford Pole and Timber.  He was born in Butler County, AL on April 20, 1934, to the late Hillary Spann and Ovis Esther Bozeman Williams. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Atmore. He served in the United States Air force. He also was an avid Auburn fan.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Larry Williams.

Survivors  include his wife, Nancy Farrow Williams of Atmore; two sons, Whit (Lisa) Williams of Oxford, NC and Erik (Charlotte) Williams of Pike Road, AL; one daughter, Haley (William) Huskey of Atmore; one brother, John (Shirley) Williams of Memphis, TN; and 4 grandchildren, Hanna, Chase, Jake and Hillary.

Services will be Friday May 27, 2016, at 10 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church of Atmore with Dr. Debora Bishop officiating.

Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jake Williams, Chase Williams, Lance Williams, Landon Williams, Allen Nix, Tommy Farrow, Greg Norwood and Kevin Classen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Ridgeway, Mike Beech, and employees of Huxford Pole and Timber.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church More Than Bricks fund.

Richard Wayne Trawick

May 26, 2016

On Tuesday, May 24, 2016, Mr. Richard Wayne Trawick passed away peacefully after a short stay at Century Health and Rehabilitation Center. Wayne was born January 8, 1960, at Century Hospital to Calvin and Kathleen Jones-Trawick.

He was the proud father of two beloved children, Eric Lee and Kala Dawn. He had three siblings Rex, David and Carol who all loved him very much. A private and quiet man, he had a talent for finding humor in everyday life making you laugh. His interests were working on machines, automobiles and playing chess. He served honorably in the Army from 1978-1982.

Funeral services will be held at Walling Cemetery in Jay on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 11 a.m.

All family and friends are welcome to attend.

Frances Alene Wasdin

Frances Alene Wasdin, 79, of McCullough, AL, passed away May 26, 2016, in Monroeville. She was a homemaker. She was born in Atmore on September 25, 1936, to the late Levy and Bessie Walker Bryant.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Wasdin; one brother; and three sisters.

Survivors include one son, Ricky (Deborah) Wasdin of McCullough; one daughter, Kellean (James) Stacey of Booneville, AL; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday, May 28, 2016, at 10 a.m.  from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home chapel with Bro. Bobby Willis officiating.

Interment will follow in McCullough Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Jake Wasdin, John Ashcraft, Jessie Sanks, Chris Lambert T. J .Lambert and Pete Stacey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Benny Lassitter, James Bryant, Phillip Weaver, and Dempsey Hall.

Sharon Delane White Freeman

May 26, 2016

Mrs. Sharon Delane White Freeman, age 54, of Forest Hill Road Flomato, passed away Wednesday May 25, 2016, at her residence after a brief illness. She was a native and life long resident of Escambia County, Alabama. Mrs. Freeman was a member of the Flomaton Pentecostal Church. She was a 1980 graduate of Flomaton High School, and attended Jefferson Davis Community College. She was also a U.S. National Gaurd Veteran. She was a former insurance agent with Larry White Insurance and Liberty National Life Insurance Company and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her father, Sam (Christine) White of Flomaton; husband, Ronald Freeman of Flomaton; one son, Ron Freeman of Flomaton; three daughters, Jennifer Reaves of Crestview, Marcia Lynn Freeman of Atmore and Kimberly Nicole Hamilton of Flomaton; two brothers, Sammy Dewayne White and Shannon Dale White, both of Flomaton; one sister,  Sherry Caraway of Atmore; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Sunday, May 29, 2016, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the Flomaton Pentecostal Church in Flomaton.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 29, 2016 at 3 p.m. at the Flomaton Pentecostal Church with Rev. Al Bethea and Rev. Rick Freeman officiating.

Interment will follow in Rock Cemetery in Flomaton.

Jessie Earnest Fillmore

May 26, 2016

Mr. Jessie Earnest Fillmore, age 85 of Brewton, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2016, at a members home. He was a native and lifelong resident of Escambia County, Alabama. Mr. Fillmore was a member of the Canaan Free Will Baptist Church. He attended Wallace School.  He was a farmer and also a welder in the construction industry.

Survivors include one son, Barry (Faye) Fillmore of Brewton; one brother, Robert Fillmore of Atmore; one sister, Sang Hayles of Atmore.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Christine Fillmore and son, Kenny Fillmore.

Visitation will be held Saturday, May 28, 2016, from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, May 28, 2016, at 3 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Waylon Stuckey officiating.

Howard L. Monroe

May 25, 2016

Howard L. Monroe of Oak Grove, passed away May 21, 2016, in Atmore. He was born on March 27, 1940, in Pensacola, to the late John Pershing and Alice Ruth Dungan Monroe. He retired from Monsanto as a chemical operator after 32 years of service. He was in the United States Marine Corps. He was an avid race fan.

He is preceded in death by his late parents; brother, Allan Monroe; and one stepson, William Rowell.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Dianne Gideons Monroe; one son, Douglas (Lynette) Monroe of Robertsdale; daughter, Pamella (Bernie) Perron of Cantonment; step-daughter, Angela Lynn (Andrew) Pipkin of Atmore; one special niece, Tina Davidson; brother, John (Sylvia) Monroe of Pensacola; two sisters, Peggy (Jerry) Winslow and Susan Bradley both of Pensacola; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 27, 2016, at 2 p.m. for the Atmore area family and friends at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore, AL. with Bro. Butch Brown officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 26, 2016, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. for the Pensacola area family and friends at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North. 1000 Hwy 29, Cantonment, FL.

James W. Bowen

Last evening just before eight o’clock the pines, the oaks, and the river birch in Nokomis stirred slightly, and their branches gracefully parted, and moved aside …as the Lord called James Bowen home on May 20, 2016, in Nokomis, FL. He was born November 30, 1933, in Excel, AL to the late Robert Bernard and Mattie Coleman Bowen.

He retired from St. Regis/Stone Container after 40 years of service.  He served in the U.S. Air Force and he attended Nokomis Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by siblings, Robert Bowen, Darrell Bowen and Sandra Smith.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Gloria Byrd Bowen of Nokomis; children, Richard (Christy) Bowen of Pensacola, Douglas (Mary Anne) Bowen of Cantonment, Robbie (Lisa) Bowen of Loxley; grandchildren, Megan, Nick, Justina, Winter, Melissa, Bjay, Stevie Ray, Rhonda, Angelina, and Cody; and 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services were held Tuesday, May 24, 2016, from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jim Hill and Bro. Ray Biggs officiating.

Interment was in Old Sowell Field Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Rick Golson, Joe Hubbard, John Levins, Bjay Ditto, Trevor Graham and Josh Horne.

Eunice Hardy Goodwin

May 22, 2016

Eunice passed away in the early morning of May 20, 2016. Eunice was born to Samuel and Lennie Hardy in Bell Fountain, AL. She was raised in Muscogee. Eunice was the only girl out of five children, all of whom preceded her in death. She attended Tate High School until the tenth grade when she left to take employment at Woolworth Five & Dime in Pensacola. Eunice married her childhood sweetheart, A.J. (Dude) Goodwin. They went on to raise seven children. Five sons, Ronnie (Collie) Goodwin, Donnie Goodwin, Bobby Goodwin, Larry (Doris) Goodwin and Eddie Goodwin; two daughters, Faye (Mike) Dees and Brenda (Terry) Bagwell. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Eunice was a devoted wife and loving mother. She was sure to always serve her family hot, home cooked meals every day and kept a spotless home. Eunice and Dude’s son, Bobby, was injured in an automobile accident in 1972 at age of 21, leaving him a quadriplegic. Eunice lovingly devoted her life to caring for Bobby until his death in 2012, at the age of 61. Bobby’s life expectancy exceeded the 20 years predicted to 40 years due to her excellent care. Eunice is also survived by many cousins, nephews and nieces and special friends. She will be dearly missed by family and all the friends in her life.

Eunice is preceded in death by her husband, “Dude” and two sons, Donnie and Bobby.

The family would like to thank the staff of Emerald Coast Hospice for their wonderful care and support during this trying time. Due to their help, mother was allowed to be cared for and remain at her home she so loved until her death. Also, a special thanks to Emil Arnold and Walker Arnold.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North beginning at 12:30 p.m. with funeral services to follow at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Freddie Stallworth officiating.

Interment will follow at Farmhill Methodist Cemetery.

Pallbearers will Donald Goodwin, Ethan Bagwell, Matthew Goodwin, Dillon Godwin, Dalton Krebs and Tyler Jackson.

Virginia Hyde Nix

May 21, 2016

Mrs. Merle Virginia Hyde Nix, age 93, of East Brewton, passed away Monday, May 16, 2016, in Laurel, MS. She was a native of Evergreen, and a long time resident of Brewton. Mrs. Nix was a member of the Cedar Hill Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Mason Drug Store and Bracken’s Drive-In for many years. She was an avid fisherman and enjoyed reading and quilting.

Survivors include three sons, James A. (Joyce) Nix of Flomaton, Kenneth (Lillian) Nix of Brewton, and Don (Pam) Nix of San Antonio, TX;  one daughter, Vicky (Bud) Turner of Laurel, MS; one sister, Marie White of Flomaton; 10 grandchildren, Sunji Hunter, Richard Nix, Scotty Nix, Samantha Howington, Mickie Howington, Cory Nix, Howard Turner, Terry Turner, Keith Turner, and Brent Turner; and 28 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by three grandchildren, Vinson Nix, Wanda Michelle Nix and Brandy Nix; and one great-grandchild, Tosha Nicole Jackson.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 20, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Watts officiating.

Interment will follow in Weaver Cemetery in Brewton.

Samantha Mae Gorman

May 20, 2016

Samantha Mae Gorman, 12, of Cantonment, passed away Monday, May 16, 2016.

Samantha was born and raised in Pensacola.

“With hair the color of the sun and with her infectious smile Samantha attracted many friends.”

She attended Lipscomb elementary and was a 6th grader at Ransom middle school. Samantha began playing softball at the age of 4, which quickly grew into her passion. She played softball at Northeast Pensacola (NEP) and with West Florida Elite.

Samantha is survived by her parents Kimberly (Laxton) Gorman and Rick Gorman; sister Madison Gorman; great grandparents Isabelle and Richard (deceased) Gorman; grandparents Cyril and Shirley Laxton, and Donna and Dennis (deceased) Gorman; aunts and uncles Tim and Leslie Moore, Michelle (Laxton) Himert, Mike Gorman, Dan Gorman, Cheryl (Gorman) and Kurt Ettlinger; and numerous cousins.

In remembrance of Samantha there will be a Mass with a memorial gathering for friends and family immediately following the service on Friday, May 20th at 10 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lord, 9945 Hillview Drive, Pensacola, FL with Father Pat Foley Celebrant.
