Charles Wayne Seal
August 10, 2016
The exceptional life of Charles Wayne Seal ended on August 7, 2016. He was born in very modest beginnings to the late Wiley and Dora Seal in Picayune, MS on May 15, 1938. After high school graduation he attended Louisiana State University where he completed a Bachelor of Science degree followed by an enlistment in the US Army as second lieutenant. He returned to LSU to gain a Master of Science and began a lifelong career in education. In 1977, he completed his Doctorate from Auburn University. He retired in 1995 from Pensacola Junior College where he was a Professor of Biology. Both as a student and teacher, he received numerous honors and recognition which he mostly chose to dismiss. He considered his time in the classroom and success of his hundreds of students his greatest professional accomplishment.
Through his life as with most, there was change, ebb and flow, that brought him to his marriage to Julia Nelson Seal in 1976. With his two daughters and her two sons, they created a family that has continued to grow. Together, Rhonda Effron Brown, her husband, Ryan Brown, of Kalispell, MT, her children, Charla Vail Effron, Tanner Effron and Connor Effron; Charla Quaranta, her husband, Sam Quaranta of Milton, their children Spencer Quaranta, Max Quaranta and Zachary Quaranta; Matthew Seal, his wife, Teri of Gulf Shores, and Micah Seal, his daughters, Annalise Seal and Ashley Seal of Alexandria, LA, they have made the very full life Chuck so richly deserved.
Retirement was filled with travel, mostly grand adventures, some rather ordinary and planning the next one. Mixed in with lots and lots of books, LSU football, a Tanqueray martini, good tunes and there was always Julia.
Chuck is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mildred Nelson of Pensacola; brothers, Sam Seal of Augusta, GA, James Seal of Ocean Springs,MS; and sister, Theodosia Mitchell of Pass Christian, MS.
In keeping with his wishes and the family’s, there will be no formal service. We ask that he be remembered in sunsets and sunrises. Always in our hearts.
“Darling, save the last dance for me.”
