Hubert Rolin

Mr. Hubert “Nub” Rolin, 72, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2016, in Poarch.

Mr. Rolin was a native and lifelong resident of Poarch. He was a member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, avid fisherman and hunter. He was of the Baptist faith. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Fay Rolin; and daughter, Sonya Howard.

He is survived by his six sons, Adam Bailey and Shane Bailey both of Goodway, AL, Bubba (Rhonda) Rolin and Mike (Sherry) Rolin, all of Atmore, Keith (Renee) Rolin of Bay Minette and Timmy (Sophia Green) Rolin of Atmore; two daughters, Christy Bailey of Goodway and Taffy (Ronnie Lassitter) Rolin of Booneville; 22 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Sis. Helen Stewart officiating.

Burial will follow at the Judson Creek Indian Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Nall, Chasen Rolin, Eric Rolin, Andrew McGhee, Tommy Morrow and John Calvin Dannelly.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Emmons, Gravis Sells, Tony Sells, John Jay, Charles McDowell, Thomas Earl, Mark Johnson and Homer Coleman.

Willie Mae Blackmon

Mrs. Willie Mae Blackmon, 81, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016, in Milton. Mrs. Blackmon was a native of Anniston, AL and had been a resident of Bay Minette for the past 40 years. Mrs. Blackmon attended Shady Grove Assembly of God, and was a member of Vision Ministries Church of God.

She was a loving, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a receptionist at Blackmon Accounting and Insurance. She also was a retired clerk at the Circuit Clerks office in Bay Minette.

She is preceded in death by husband of 50 years, Elevie T. Blackmon; daughter, Genvea M. Blackmon; parents, James W. and Virgie M. Cato; and one brother, Gene Cato.

She is survived by her two sons, Edward T. Blackmon (Judy) of Milton, and George L. Blackmon(PawneeEagle) of Abilene, TX; two daughters, Sheri C. Russell (Andy) of Bay Minette and Alicia M. Coon (Mel) of Milton; one brother, Jim Cato (Ruth)of Matthews,NC; one sister, Illa Thomas of Bay Minette; three grandchildren, Kacey Cottrell (Sara) of Saraland, Rebeca Hopkins (Erik) of Ooeltwa, TN, Jamie Scott (Brandon) of Bay Minette; four great-grandchildren, Aiden Cottrell, Haley Cottrell, Nathan Hopkins and Laela Hopkins; and numerous step-great grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 18, 2016, at Vision Ministries Church of God with Rev. Allan Blackmon officiating.

Burial was at Dean Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Kacey Cottrell, Erik Hopkins, Brandon Scott, Kevin Stewart, Jeremy Blackmon, and Larry Stewart.

Honorary pallbearers were Aiden Cottrell and Nathan Hopkins.

Callie Estelle Taylor

Callie Estelle Taylor, 96, of Booneville, AL, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 16, 2016, in Atmore. She was born to the late Robert Asa and Belle Vaughn Johnson on July 30, 1919.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother and loved cooking for everyone.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Austin Taylor; son, Albert Austin Taylor; grandsons, Edwin Austin Taylor and Shannon Taylor; and great-grandsons, Matthew Baisden and Zachary Stockin.

She is survived by her children, Marvis (Teak) Joyce (Bunny) of Atmore, Ken (Patsy) of Brewton, Rodney (JoAnn) of Uriah, Sheila (Steve) Pugh of Oak Grove; daughter-in-law, Patricia Frymire of Atmore; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at 2:30 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Butch Brown officiating.

Interment will follow in McCullough Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Stephen Pugh,II, Clinton Pugh, Jason (Man) Taylor, Justin Taylor, Brandon Rivers and Rodney Whatley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Myron Taylor and Sonny Strength.

Gerald Lee Van Luven

Gerald Lee Van Luven, 75, of Pensacola, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2016. Gerald was born on October 29, 1940, in Rhinelander, Wisconsin to the late Howard and Clarice Van Luven. He retired from the U. S. Navy and the U.S. Civil Service. Jerry’s heart and soul was entrenched in his military service and the love for his country. His 20 year span of service in the Navy included four tours in Vietnam and time on carrier ships. Jerry was also an outdoorsman and an avid fly fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his three siblings.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 35 years, Karen Kane Van Luven; three sons, Gregory James (Tammy), Shawn Lee (Cheryl) and Jon Michael (Julie) Van Luven; eight grandchildren, Rebekkah, Dustin, Dalton, Kristoffer, Jonathan, Alexxander, Julia-Bella; brothers and sisters-in-law, Cindy and Tom Kidder, Jim and Margie Kane, Mary and Pete Barraca, Richard and Laurie Kane, Kevin and Donna Kane, Teresa and Mike Nelson and Laura and Gary Hammac; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be loved and missed by his fur babies Samy, Jethro, JayJ and Hollie.

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Barrancas National Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his sons, Greg and Jon Van Luven and brothers-in-law, Jim and Richard Kane, Tom Kidder and Pete Barraca.

Burbie M. Willett Comer

Burbie M. Willett Comer, 91 of Atmore, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016, in Atmore.

She was a retired nurses aid. She was born in Fayette, AL on February 13, 1925, to the late Randolph and Ida Pennington. She was a member of the Brooks Memorial Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by husbands, Kenneth Willett and Charles Comer; and sons, Charles Pennington and Joseph Murphy.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Hyslop Demille and Betty Donohoe both of Atmore; one sister, Erdeal McGhee of Atmore; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many friends.

Services were held Sunday, July 17, 2016, from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Robert Heard officiating.

Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Thelma Lee Vasquez

Thelma Lee Vasquez was born on June 9,1941, and was called home to be with the Lord on July 14, 2016.

She leaves behind her loving husband of  56 years, Jerry Cruz Vasquez; and her children, Phyllis Finney, Jerry Vasquez, Sue Ann Hall, Jeannie Omerza, Frankie Vasquez , Tony Vasquez, and Quinn Vasquez. In addition to her children she was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Her surviving siblings include, Joseph Nowling, Margaret Richardson, and Gracie Evans.

Her pallbearers will be Tony Vasquez Jr., Randy Vazquez, Steven Vasquez, Brennan Vasquez, Edward Hall, and Dwayne Vasquez.

Honorable pallbearers are Matt Nowling, Roger Vasquez, and Thomas Omerza.

She was born Thelma Lee Nowling in Holt, FL. She was raised in Pensacola where she met and married the love of her life on September 15, 1960. Together, they raised seven wonderful children. She was a devoted and loving mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed spending time in her garden and telling stories about her life and memories of her family. She made anyone who came to her home feel welcome and loved. She was the most caring person anyone had the pleasure and privilege of knowing and will be truly missed.

Robert Michael Molchanoff

Robert Michael Molchanoff, 84, of Molino, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at West Florida Hospital in hospice care.  He was born in Washington D.C.  He lived the first half of his life in Miami and the Florida Keys before moving his family to Molino.

Robert was a man of strong morals and ethics, dedicated to his God, his family, and his work. He served in the Korean War and was vice president and president of banks in the Keys, Homestead, Pensacola and Milton and made several lifelong friends along the way. He loved teaching his Sunday School class, sports, fishing, telling tall tales of Wanarookus and his pets, mostly his pets!

He was married for 61 years to his loving wife, Laura and he fathered seven children of whom he was very proud: five sons, Michael Jr., Dade, Timothy, Joseph, Matthew and two daughters, Deborah and Martha and came to be a father to all of their spouses as well. He also leaves behind his 11 beloved grandchildren and five adored great-grandchildren. We should also mention his much loved puppies, Lily and Gracie.

He will be celebrated and laid to rest on Monday, July 18, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Highland Baptist Church, 6420 Hwy 95A in Molino. Visitation will be at 10 a.m.

Bonnie Faye White Coon

Bonnie Faye White Coon, 73 of Atmore, passed away July 8, 2016, in Atmore. She was born to the late Robert and Vivian Smith Little on April 23, 1943, in Lottie, AL.

She was a charter member of Sovereign Grace Baptist Church and owner of Diamond Gasoline Stations. She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Roy W. White, Sr. and Buford Coon; brothers, Glenn Little, Winston Little and Bobby Little.

She is survived by her children, Roy W. (Shelly) White, Jr., Tommy (Jennifer) White, and Mitch (Gina) White, all of Atmore, and Pamela (Eric) Hawn of Alexandria, VA; and one sister, Delores (Lon) Johnson of Citronelle; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 11, 2016, from the Atmore First Assembly of God with Bro. Kevin Fralick, Bro. Don Davis and Bro. J. T. Guyton officiating.

Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Nolan White, Jackson Breckenridge, Clay White, Noah White, Ethan Dawe, and John Brantley.

James Vernon Phillips

Mr. James Vernon Phillips, 75, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2016, in Atmore.

Mr. Phillips was a native and lifelong resident of Walnut Hill. He was retired from Monsanto with 36 ½ years of service. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardner.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and he loved his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, J.E. and Virgie Phillips; and brother, Junior Phillips.

He is survived by his wife of 43 ½ years, June Phillips of Walnut Hill; two sons, James Shannon Phillips of Walnut Hill and James Scott Phillips of Pensacola; one daughter, Kenda DeAnn Parker of Pensacola; one brother, Douglas Phillips of Walnut Hill; and one grandson, William Blake Edgar of Pensacola.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 14, 2016, at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Enfinger officiating.

Burial will follow at the Walnut Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Chavers, Anthony Lamb, Brian Robbins, Leon Chavers, Greg Forbes and Robert McCullough.

Anna Marie Gilbert

July 13, 2016

Anna was born in Pensacola on February 18, 1988. Anna passed away on July 7, 2016, at the age of 28 after many years of a physical battle with pulmonary arterial hypertension. Annabelle was a very pretty little girl and hid her suffering well through her pretty face and big beautiful smiling eyes.

She is preceded in death by her grandpa, Elden Dean Peterson; and papa, John Thomas (Tommy) Oglesby. Anna has moved on to a happy place in heaven to reunite with her dearly missed papa (Tommy).

She is survived and will be deeply missed by her six year old daughter, Isabelle. Anna is also survived by her parents, Ruth Patterson and John (Randy) Oglesby; brother, John R. Oglesby II; grannie great, Kathryn Thomas, grannie, Shirley Oglesby; grandmother, Pearl Johnson; granddaddy, Jimmy Johnson; grandma, Dede Peterson; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Anna was a member of Harvest Christian Center in Cantonment.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.

Pallbearers were David Oglesby, Adam Johnson, Leslie Peterson, Richard Smolik, Jake Middleton and Tommy Hennessey.

Honorary pallbearers were Dalton Oglesby and Jared Clarke.
