James Foster Anderson

James Foster Anderson, 67, passed away on November 29, 2016.

He was born at Mobile Infirmary on June 7, 1947, to the late L.D. and Mirtis B. Anderson. He graduated from The University of Alabama in 1972 with a Bachelor’s degree from the Business school. While at Alabama he was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. He joined the Air force ROTC in 1967 and was a reservist until 1972.

He spent 30 years with the conservation department in Alabama serving in many roles in several state parks. He worked at Gulf state park, Cheaha, Roland Cooper, and Lakepoint. After retiring from the state, he worked with the Sheriff’s department in Escambia County, Alabama for 5 years. He subsequently went to work with the Poarch Creek Indians as a Tribal Police Officer for another five years. Spending 40 years as a police officer, he had a strong sense of duty, honor, and fairness for life. He enjoyed turkey hunting, fishing and carpentry.

He is survived by his wife, Dy-Ana Anderson; son, James Foster Anderson, II; his brother, Daulton Anderson; and his nephews, Jeff Anderson, David Anderson; and niece, Kristen Kaiser.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 3, 2016, from The First Baptist Church of Atmore with Rev. Arnold Hendrix officiating.

Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Gary Elmore, Hugh Elmore, Butch Black, David Anderson, Brandon Smith and Julian Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers were James Norris and Bobby Davis.

Thelma Lee Craddock

December 2, 2016

Thelma Lee Craddock, 90 of Atmore, AL, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016, in Atmore, AL. She was employed by Vanity Fair Mills as a trainer. She was born in Canoe, AL on February 2, 1926, to the late William Wesley and Elna Bristow Lee. She was a Member of Presley Street Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by husbands Thomas “Tom” Turk and Jack C. Craddock; grandson, Ryan Jones; and son-in-law, Chuck Jones.

Survivors include one son, William Thomas “Tommy” (Becky) Turk of Robertsdale, AL; two daughters, Annette Jones of Stockton, AL and Carolyn (Mike) Fisher of Elberta, AL; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Thursday, December 1, 2016, from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Mike Grindle officiating.

Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Jim Harrison, Glendon Harrison, Dustin Harrison, Matthew Ryan and John Knight.

Honorary pallbearers were Charlotte Smith, Christie Singleton, Marsha Green, Patty Booth, and staff at The Meadows.

Lester Stokes

December 2, 2016

Mr. Lester Stokes, 97, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, in Jay, Florida.

Mr. Stokes was a native of Chancellor, AL and a resident of Jay for the past 90 years. He was in the bridge club.

He is preceded in death by his step-daughter, Gina Bethea; parents, Henry and Evie Stokes; and wife, Bessie Stokes.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Stokes of Jay, FL; one step-daughter, Denise (Matthew) Martin of Jay, FL; one step-son, Darrell (Courtney) Campbell of Jay, FL and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and cousins.

Funeral services were held Sunday, December 4, 2016, at Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Mr. Richard Ash officiating.

Burial was at the Cora Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Mary Frances Sparks Shamburger

Mary Frances Sparks Shamburger, 72, went to her eternal home on Nov. 29, 2016. She was born in Century, Fla., to the late James and Mildred Sparks. She was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Rayleen Shamburger Scott. She leaves to cherish her memory Ray (Rayford) Shamburger, her husband of 43 years; her sister, Peggy Sparks Skipper (Arnold); brother-in-law, Ken Scott; and several nieces and nephews.

Fran graduated high school in Flomaton, Ala. She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Livingston University. She touched the lives of many students through the counseling services she provided while employed in the Chesapeake Public Schools. She retired from the school system in 2004.

Fran loved to travel in Europe and Newfoundland and made several trips there. She was a master gardener and maintained a beautiful yard with flowers in abundance. She and Ray were members of Greenbrier Presbyterian in Chesapeake, and Fran enjoyed teaching several Bible studies. Fran loved the Lord. She was His good and faithful servant.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016, at Lake Prince Woods, 100 Anna Goode Way, Suffolk, VA 23434. A graveside service is planned for a later date in Livingston, Ala. Memorial donations may be offered to the Alzheimer’s Association, 6350 Center Dr., Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23503. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, Suffolk, is assisting the family.

Marcella Freeman Krueger

Marcella Freeman Krueger, 86, of Pensacola, FL, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2016. She was a native of Escambia County, FL. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great provider, always there to help friends and family. She was one of the best cooks in Pensacola.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Roger Krueger; and her daughter, Judy Wansley.

She is survived by her sons, Ronald (Ruby) Grimes and Marcus (Gwen) Grimes; stepson, Tim Krueger; stepdaughter, Lynn Krueger; granddaughter, Salina Hall; grandsons, Jesse (Heather) Grimes and Justin (Bianca) Wansley; step-grandkids, Blake, Elizabeth and Christopher Krueger; great-grandkids, Mia and Morgan Wansley and Oliver Grimes.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Beck, Tony Tarnok, Jesse Grimes, Mike Stuckey, Donnie Stuckey, and Justin Wansley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Krueger and Charles Beck.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dry Springs Community Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, December 2, 2016, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Reverend Curtis Williams will be officiating.

James D. Beasley

James D. Beasley, 88 of Atmore, AL, passed away Friday, November 25, 2016, peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Donald was born in Walnut Hill, FL on October 23, 1928. He was an operator/foreman with St. Regis Paper Company for 41 and a half years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Novy and Myrtle Hale.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Louise Beasley of Atmore, AL; two sons; Donny (Donna) Beasley of Gulf Breeze, FL, and Ronnie (Sandie Roberts) Beasley of Atmore; siblings, Clark (Diane) Hale of McComb, MS, Douglas (Mary Elizabeth) Hale of Atmore, Rodney (Dena) Hale of Clearwater, FL, Sue Mahoney of Milton, FL, Sandra (Ruthie) Muffler of California and Linda (Bernard) Peacock of Stockton, AL; four grandchildren, Justin Beasley, Brennan Beasley, Jace Beasley and Jenna Beasley, MD and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were held on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, from the Trinity Episcopal Church of Atmore.

A private family graveside followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Ralph Lee Cooley, Jr.

Ralph Lee Cooley Jr. was born in Sevierville, Tennessee on April 2, 1940. He served 23 years in the Army of which he retired SFC where he lived in Fort Rucker in 1977 until he moved in 1982 to Huxford, AL to open Lou’s Grocery in 1984.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ralph Lee Cooley Sr.; his mother, Anna R. Sellers; his sister, Betty Poulin; his daughter, Evelyn LeAnna (Lee) Cooley-Owens; and his grandson, Blake Michael-Allen Turner.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lou Cooley of Huxford, AL; son, Ralph Dwayne Cooley (Beth) of Wilkesboro, NC; daughter, Michele Turner (Allen) of Huxford; granddaughter, Heather Lou Hagen of Huxford; grandson, Hayden Eugene Cooley of Gulf Shores; granddaughter, Allisar Cherrie Womack of Robertsdale; grandson, Josh Turner (Brooke) of Spanish Fort; grandson, Josh Owens of Excel; granddaughter, Tammy Vaczy of Excel; granddaughter, Clara Muse of Huxford; and his great-grandchildren, Kym, Emma, DJ, Blake, Raymond, Noah, Cynthia, Emma Catherine, Lizzie, Ford, Ellie, Mcghee, Karley, Lexi; and one great-great grandson, Ashton.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 1, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Daniels officiating.

Burial will follow at the Huxford Baptist Cemetery with full Military Honors.

Mr. Cecil McGhee, 82, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, in Atmore, Alabama.

Mr. McGhee was a native of Nokomis, AL, former resident of Gadsden, AL (15 years) and has resided in Atmore since 1996. Mr. McGhee was retired from Goodyear Tire Company and was of the Protestant Faith. He is preceded in death by his sister, Louise Turner; brother, Earlie McGhee; mother, Gladys McGhee; father, Norvie Lee McGhee; and great-grandson, Jaylen Hammett.

He is survived his wife, Betty McGhee of Atmore, AL; two sons, Cecil Gwinn McGhee of Nokomis, AL and Mark Steven McGhee of Atmore, AL; two daughters, Sharon Denise (Randall) Hammette of Altoona, AL and Sylvia Beth (Chris) Holloman of Altoona, AL; four brothers, Norvie Lee McGhee, Jr. of Gadsden, AL, Douglas McGhee of Spanish Fort, AL, Ronnie McGhee of Atmore, AL and Huey McGhee of Chicago, IL; three sisters, Eloise Ramer of Gadsden, AL, Betty Jean McVay of Booneville, MS and Hazel Albritton of Atmore, AL; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 3, 2016, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Ward and Bro. Colton Penrod officiating.

Burial was at the Antioch Cemetery.

Donnie Marvin Nordstorm

Donnie Marvin Nordstrom, 80 of Frisco City, AL, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2016 in Monroeville, AL. He was a forester with the Alabama State Forestry Commission and served in the Army National Guard. He was born in Atmore, AL, on September 30, 1936, to the late J.E. and Elsie Lorenz Nordstrom.

He was a member and deacon of McCullough Christian Center, and enjoyed spending time with his family. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sybil U. Nordstrom; son, Gary Nordstrom; brothers, Bernard Nordstrom and Edwin Nordstrom; and a sister, Ione Young.

He is survived by two daughters, Donna (Ronnie) Jordan of Excel, AL and Amy (Chris) Betsole of Red Oak, AL; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held Monday, November 28, 2016, at  from McCullough Christian Center with Bro. Cornelius Phillips officiating.

Interment was in McCullough Cemetery.

Randy Dale Gehman

Randy Dale Gehman, 59, of Akron, PA, went home to be with Jesus on November 22, 2016 at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

Dale was the loving husband of Darlene Horst Gehman for 34 years. He was the devoted father of Mathew Dale, husband of Linda Welch Gehman, Yangon, Myanmar; Sarah, wife of Simeon Beatty, Akron, PA; Hannah, wife of Ovidiu Gabor, Lititz, PA; Abigail, wife of Jerry Allgyer, Stevens, PA; and grandpa to Eliana and Katelyn Gehman and Mihai Gabor. He was born in Carlisle, PA and was the son of Martin E. and Vernie Lee Barnhill Gehman of Atmore, AL.

He is also survived by his siblings, Martin “Jerry” (Faith) Gehman, Atmore, AL, David (Shyrell) Gehman, Atmore, AL, Joseph (Rhonda) Gehman, Pellham, AL, and Martha (Todd) Gookin, Atmore, AL.
He was passionate about Jesus, his family, and broadcast engineering. He enjoyed star gazing, traveling, photography, and walking his dog in Akron park. Dale was a member of Poarch Band of Creek Indians and served on the Tribal Council for 13 years. He was an active member of New Life Fellowship, Ephrata, PA.

A viewing will be held on Friday, December 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. at New Life Fellowship, 420 E. Fulton Street, Ephrata, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, at New Life Fellowship with Kevin Horning and Dave Witmer officiating. Interment will be private.
