Alton Godwin

Mr. Alton “Hawkeye” Godwin, Jr., 61, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2016, in Mobile, Alabama.

Mr. Godwin was a native of Pensacola, FL and had resided in Poarch, AL for the past 16 years. Hawkeye loved family and friends and was of the Holiness Faith. He is preceded in death by his father, Alton Edward Godwin, Sr.

He is survived by his mother, Irene Godwin of Atmore, AL; wife, Bell Godwin of Poarch, AL; two sons, Joseph (Kathy) McGugin of Grand Bay, AL and Chad (Latasha) Godwin of Poarch, AL; one daughter, Chastity (Bunk) Peebles of Poarch, AL; one brother, Thomas Phillip (Cynthia) Godwin of Mobile, AL; four sisters, Glenda (Byron) Arrington of Milton, FL, Elizabeth Monachello of Atmore, AL; Katherine (Larry) McDuffie of Atmore, AL and Jackie (Joe) Andrews of Crestview, FL; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Ward and Bro. Walter Rolin officiating.

Burial will follow at the Judson Creek Indian Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Adam Hadley, Eric McDuffie, Shawn Rolin, Kevin Andrews, Brian Couch and Jason Griffey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny McGhee, Ernest Rolin, Odell McGhee, Mike Bethea and Tinker Rolin.

Harvey Eugene Foster

Mr. Harvey Eugene Foster, 69, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2016, in Fairhope, Alabama.

Mr. Foster was a native and lifelong resident of Walnut Hill, FL. He was retired from Masland Carpet with 38 years of service. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, outdoorsman and he was a member of the Dry Springs Community Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Minnie Lee Foster and nephew, Rusty Foster.

He is survived by the mother of his son, Julia Foster of McCullough, AL; one son, Ricky (Shelley) Foster of Walnut Hill, FL; two brothers, Roy (Billie) Foster of Walnut Hill, FL and Jerry (Betty Ann) Hastings of Walnut Hill, FL; one sister, Louise Vance of Orlando, FL; two grandchildren, Leslee Foster and Kaylee Foster; two great-grandchildren, Clover Greenly Erin Shook and Brayden Mumaw; and a niece, Tracy “Coon Dog” Garrett.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 26, 2016, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Ray McCullough officiating.

Burial was at the Dry Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John McCullough, Harvey Fowler, Leon Gibson, Jesse McCullough, Dewayne Hall and Hughlett Mumaw.

Gloria Maisonneuve

December 26, 2016

Gloria Maisonneuve, 73, passed away at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, FL on Tuesday, December 20, 2016.

Gloria was born to parents, Nelson and Frances Johnson in Grant Park, IL on October 29, 1943. She later married Richard Maisonneuve and had four daughters. In 1990 she moved to Pensacola to start a new chapter in life for herself and her family. She worked at the Friary in Gulf Breeze for 15 years before retiring. Gloria had two loves in her life, her family and sports, most of all hockey. She has been a season ticket holder with the Pensacola Ice Flyers (formerly the Ice Pilots) since their inaugural season. Over the last 26 years she has made many friends she truly cherished, especially Margie, Jenny and Jean.

Gloria is preceded in death by her father, Nelson Johnson and mother, Frances Hayhurst-Johnson.

She is survived by her daughters, Tamara Maisonneuve (Jason Mysak), Tracy Maisonneuve, Tonya Maisonneuve and Tina Jimenez; grandkids, Teneka Irwin (Joe), Quaterris Maisonneuve, Amy Maisonneuve, Andrew Maisonneuve, Cruz Jimenez, Dustin Mysak, Faith Johnson and Danika Mysak; great-grandkids, Terrance Maisonneuve, Maleigha Irwin and Makenna Irwin.

A memorial service was held Monday, December 26, 2016, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.

Riley Ray Mullins

Mr. Riley Ray Mullins, age 89 of Century, FL passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Pensacola, FL.

Mr. Mullins was born in McCullough, AL and had been a resident of Century since 1959 coming from McCullough. He worked as a forester for 18 years and was with Alger Sullivan Lumber Company for 48 years. Mr. Mullins was a member of First Baptist Church of Century and is preceded in death by his son, Donnie Ray Mullins, Sr., ten siblings and son-in-law, John William Collins.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mrs. Mary Lee Mullins of Century, FL; daughters, Laura (William) Chancery of McDavid, FL and Charlotte Collins of Flomaton, AL; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 26, 2016 at Flomaton Funeral Home Chapel from 9:30 AM until a 10:30 AM service time with Pastor William H. Chancery officiating.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Walker, Ronnie Walker, Isaac Anderson, Derris Greggs, Aubrey Greggs, Charles Wicker.

Interment will follow in Flomaton Cemetery, Flomaton, AL.

James Ezra Hall

December 23, 2016

James Ezra Hall, age 70, passed away on December 20, 2016, in Atmore, AL. He was a native of Atmore, AL. He graduated from Escambia County High School, Snead State Junior College, and Livingston University. He was a member of Brooks Memorial Baptist Church. Mr. Hall’s professions included work as a teacher, coach, and farmer. He retired from the Alabama Department of Corrections.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Ervin Junior Hall and Loretha Johnson Hall.

Mr. Hall is survived by his wife, Kathleen of Atmore, AL; sons, Johnathan (Monica) Hall of Jasper, AL, and Jeremy Hall, of Atmore, AL; grandsons, Jake and Jase Hall of Jasper, AL; brothers, Hilbert (Annette) Hall of Atmore AL, and Myron Hall, of Bessemer, AL; sisters, Margaret (Dennis) Higdon of Columbus, GA, and Diane (Kenneth) Snider of Rising Fawn, GA; and many nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 23, 2016, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel in Atmore with Brother Robert Heard officiating.

Interment was in Serenity Gardens Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Eric Hall, Scotty Hall, Mark Hall, Daniel Alaniz, Jimmy Woods and Mark Mack.

Hazel Elizabeth Marshall Morgan

Hazel Elizabeth Marshall Morgan, 83, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2016, at St. Dominic’s Hospital. She was born on March 23, 1933, in Atmore, Alabama to Atwood and Lucy Marshall. She graduated from Escambia High School and worked for many years as a bank teller with Deposit Guaranty National Bank in New Hebron, MS and Monticello, MS. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Atwood and Lucy Marshall; brothers, John Lee Marshall, William Marshall, Elmer Marshall, Arthur Marshall, James Marshall, Edward Marshall, Cecil Marshall and Thomas Marshall; and one sister, Theresa Hayes.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Glen S. Morgan; son, Stan Morgan (Missy); daughter, Sheila Keller (Mark); four grandchildren, Rachel Sanders, Elizabeth Cliburn (Matt), Marshall Morgan (Julie) and Anna Smith (Corey); and two great-grandchildren, Charley Smith and Marlie Pate Morgan.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 23, 2016 at the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Shirley Qualls

Mrs. Shirley Qualls, 68, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2016, in Pensacola, Florida.

Mrs. Qualls was a native of Rock Creek, AL, former resident of Pace, FL and had resided in Jay, FL for the past six months. She was an employee of David’s Catfish in Atmore, AL and was a member of the Cedar Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Shorty and Mable Lucas and sister, Delores Palmer.

She is survived by her boyfriend, Darrell Elliot of Pace, FL; one son, Buster (Michael Hopkins) Brown of Jay, FL; one step-son, Burl Brown Jr. of Jay, FL; two brothers, Wayne Lucas of Rock Creek, AL and Terry Lucas of Brewton, AL; one sister, Becky Lucas of Oklahoma City, OK; one grandchild, Alex Graves and one great-grandchild, Kayson Graves.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 23, 2016, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Burial was at the Elim Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Terry Lucas, Little Terry Lucas, Mike Pharaoh, Randy Parker, Lance Harman and Robert Douglas.

Roy James Classen

December 23, 2016

Roy James Classen, 71 of Walnut Hill, FL, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2016, at his residence. He was a farmer. He was born on May 26, 1945, in Meade, Kansas to the late Willie and Elizabeth Loewen Classen.

Roy’s heart was in farming from a very young age and he thoroughly enjoyed forming relationships with those that he came to know through farming, his involvement in the in the community and church. His love for his wife and family was evident and he was so enjoying his grandchildren and watching them grow up. Above all Roy’s love for the Lord was what guided him in his life, even through his battle with cancer. Now he has finished his race and is with his precious Savior. He was faithful and ran it well.

He is preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Classen.

Survivors include his wife, Miriam Yoder Classen of Walnut Hill, FL; one son, Kevin (Wendy) Classen of Atmore, AL; three daughters, Denise (Michael) Beachy of Plain City, Ohio, Andrea (Brent) Wagler and Juanita (Terry) Miller both of Sarasota, FL; two brothers, Ken (Mable) Classen of Atmore, AL, Steve (Treva) Classen of Walnut Hill, FL; two sisters, Marianne Classen of Walnut Hill, FL and Beverly Classen of Sarasota, FL; and 11 grandchildren.

Services were held Thursday, December 22, 2016, at the Mennonite Christian Fellowship, with Bro. Anthony Swartzendruber officiating.

Interment was in Freemanville Community Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Rodney Classen, Keith Classen, Ryan Classen, Randy Classen, Jameson Ward and Andrew Ward.

Honorary pallbearers were Brad Moore, Mike Godwin, Ken McLeod, Lyndon Halteman, John McDaniel and Rob Duffield.

Karen Anne Ellis

December 22, 2016

Karen Anne Ellis, age 60, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 19, 2016, after a brief battle with lung cancer. She was the beloved wife of Timothy Ellis. Karen was born on June 30, 1956, and grew up in Waukegan, IL. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Nancy Raasch. Karen worked for the United States Navy Civil Service for 38 years prior to her early retirement. She thoroughly enjoyed camping, traveling, and cruising with her husband and friends.

Besides her husband Tim, Karen leaves her favorite daughter, Melissa and (Mike) Shaw. She also leaves behind her sister Sherry and (Jim) Kenton; her brother, James Raasch, and her sister, Alice Raasch. She also leaves behind her cherished nieces and nephews, Samantha Bowsher, Daniel Raasch-Bowsher, Zach Kenton, and Alex Kenton, as well as her aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.

Charles William Kimberl

Charles William Kimberl, 93, native and resident of Pensacola, Florida passed away on Friday, December 16, 2016. Charles was born on August 8, 1923, in Pensacola, Florida to James and Annie Lou Kimberl. He graduated from Pensacola High School when it was still located on Palafox Street across from Lee’s Square. He came from a family of bakers and grocery owners.

Soon after WWII began, Charles joined the US Navy, completed aviation mechanic’s school, and was sent to a number of south Pacific islands as a flight engineer on PBY Catalina and TBM Avenger. He became crew chief and left the Navy, after the war ended, at the rank of Petty Officer First Class. He then met the love of his life, Mable Milsted, on a blind date. They married on Oct. 12, 1947, and Charles converted to Roman Catholicism. Charles and Mable were founding members of St. Paul’s Catholic Church. They celebrated 67 years together until Mable’s passing in January, 2015.

In his efforts to provide a better life for his family, he joined the Pensacola City Fire Department. He also became a certified building contractor and established a successful vending machine business. Charles retired from the fire department as the Assisted Chief. He built the family home his children were raised in and cherished the many hours he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Every summer, Charles and Mable vacationed with their children around the country. In his 93 years he traveled extensively visiting virtually every area of the United States, the Holy Land and four continents.

Charles was very involved with his church as a Eucharistic Minister and parish volunteer. He was an active member of many organizations including the Krewe of Laffite (crowned king), Knights of Columbus (president and fourth degree), Serra Club, and the Civil Airs. He also volunteered with the Boy Scouts, and went to various organizations and clubs to teach CPR and fire safety. Whether through work, with his family, or in the community he was continually teaching others the many skills he had learned throughout his life. He was always looking for ways to give back.

Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Mable Kimberl; brothers, J B Kimberl (Tish), and Jimmy Johansen (Mary); brother-in-law, Dudley Milsted and sister-in-law, Delores Kane (Jimmy).

He is survived by his children, Steve (Cindy) Kimberl, Katherine (John, dec) Parish, Sandy (Donald) Brewer, Joe (Karin) Kimberl, Julie (Bryan) Webb, Mark (Mary) Kimberl, and Chris (Jeanne) Kimberl; his 17 grandchildren; and his 15 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Bill Milsted (Peggy), Reverend Fr. Gordon, David Milsted (Beverly); sisters-in-law, Ellen Contarino (Len) and Joan Milsted.

The family would like to express a special “thank you” to the staff of Summer Vista Assisted Living Facility for their love and care during his residency and to Covenant Care Hospice for their care during his illness.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at Faith Chapel on Beverly Parkway.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2016, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church on Hyde Park Rd with Reverend Fr. Gordon Milsted as Celebrant and Reverend Fr. Doug Halsema, con-celebrant.

Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery on 12th Avenue.

A reception at St. Paul’s Church will follow the interment.
