Helen Cartwright Morris

Mrs. Helen Cartwright Morris, 70, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, in Century, Florida.

Mrs. Morris was a native of Pensacola, FL and resided in Century and Jay, Florida all of her life. She was a past member of the Brownsdale Women’s Club, and a troop leader with Girl Scouts and Brownies. Helen was a sponsor and very active with Special Olympic in Santa Rosa County and a cake decorator. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Cora Lee Cartwright; two sisters, Mavis Johnson and Judy Macks; and a brother, Lavon Cartwright; the father of her children, Alton A. Morris, Sr.; a son, Alton Morris, Jr.; grandson, Steven Lee Morris; a special nephew, Joshua Cartwright; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Cartwright.

She is survived by her three daughters, Angie Dybowski (Timothy) of Flomaton, AL, Tammy Gresham (Randy) of Brewton, AL and Sarah Ogle (Bryan) of Flomaton, AL; three brothers, Eugene Cartwright (Cheryl) of Wilmington, CA, Rufus Cartwright (Deborah) of Saraland, AL and Jerry Cartwright of Milton, FL; two sisters, Wyvonne Pantermuehl of New Braunfels, TX and Eloise Rushing (Don) of Pensacola, FL; nine grandchildren, Tiffany, Robert, Heather, Stacy, Evan, Jonny, Victoria, Ryan and Brooke; ten great-grandchildren and a sister and brother-in-law by love, Wanda and Russell Peacock; and a special nephew, Donnie (Deanna) Macks.

Funeral services will be Monday, February 13, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Carnley officiating.

Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 12, 2017, from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Evan Amacher, Jonny Morris, Donnie Macks, Rusty Peacock, Cody Haveard and Robert Macks.

Honorary pallbearers will be Edward Macks, Lane Macks, Austin Macks and Bubba Harris.

Zachary Thomas Barrow

Mr. Zachary Thomas Barrow, 23, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, in Pensacola, FL.

Mr. Barrow was a native of Pensacola, FL, and has resided in Century, FL most of his life. Mr. Barrow was a substitute teacher and baseball coach at Northview High School. He was a member of the Faith Bible Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his mother, Joanna Barrrow and grandparents, Hubert and Dorothy Arrington.

He is survived by his father, Pastor Robert Barrow of Century, FL; fiancé, Lauren Ashley McCall of Walnut Hill, FL; grandparents, Royce (Peggy) Barrow of Century, FL, and two brothers, Ryne (Bethany) Barrow of Bratt, FL, and Kevin (Courtney) Barrow of Century, FL.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 11, 2017, at 10 a.m.. at the Faith Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Barrow officiating.

Burial will follow at the Ray’s Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, February 10, 2017, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Faith Bible Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Vaughn, Jamie Gafford, Chad Smith, David Burkett, Tanner Brooks and Brian Ross.

James M. Lee

February 7, 2017

James M. Lee, known as “Jim” or “Jimmy” to his friends, was born on December 3, 1935, in Dunbar, WV.

In 1954, a week after his high school graduation, Jim moved to the Hopkins’ Boarding House in Pensacola, FL to work at the Chemstrand Plant. He worked 38 years at the plant, where he met his wife of 39 years, Una. Jim has served on the Board of Directors at Gulf Winds FCU for 50 years. He is also a member of Ensley Lodge 278. Jim and Una enjoyed traveling every fall to the Great Smokey Mountains, fishing on Lake Talquin, and camping at Fort Pickens. Jim was dearly loved by so many, especially his best friends Peanut and Ann Johnson, who stood by his side during his recent illness.

Jim is preceded in death by his mother and father, Les and Virginia Hundley; and his daughter-in-law, Gayle Francis.

Jim is survived by his wife, Una Lee; his children, James A. “Fred” Lee (Cindy), John Ellis Francis, Doug Lee (Melanie), and Patricia “Pat” Cleveland (Fred); his grandchildren, Kari Lee, Amanda Eady (Matthew), and Nicholas “Nick” Walther; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were the Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee Members of Gulf Winds FCU.

Services were held Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.

Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Cantonment building fund.

Edward L. Barlow

February 7, 2017

Edward L. Barlow, age 63, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, after battling cancer and numerous health issues.

He was born November 12, 1953, in Pensacola, FL to the late Walter and Sadie Barlow, the fifth of six children. As a master craftsman, he enjoyed a long and varied career in the fields of both mechanics and carpentry.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Eloise.

Eddie leaves behind to cherish his memories his loving wife of 31 years, Kathy; his children, Robert (fiancé Lindsey), Richard, Anastasia (Rick), Beth and Emma; four grandchildren, Logan, Alexis, Jenna and Rowen; two sisters, Loyce and Barbara; two brothers, Charles and Robert; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Eddie loved life and people and always had a good story to tell. He also had a special place in his heart for those less fortunate or in need and did whatever he could to help and care for them. Some of the things Eddie enjoyed most in life were spending time with his family, traveling, fixing up old cars, puttering in his workshop with various projects and having breakfast with his friends.

Eddie will be greatly missed and remembered in our hearts forever.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.

Debra Ann Shanks Agerton

Mrs. Debra Ann Shanks Agerton, 64, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2017, in Pensacola, Florida.

Mrs. Agerton was a native and former resident of Atmore, AL and has resided in Walnut Hill, FL for the past 25 years. She was the first Animal Control Officer for the City of Atmore and she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atmore. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Luveda Shanks.

She is survived by her husband, Gene Agerton of Walnut Hill, FL; one son, Nicklas Agerton of Atmore, AL; three daughters, Mindy Jackson McGhee of Atmore, AL, Ashley Agerton of Mobile, AL and Jordan (Hunter) McKinley of Atmore, AL; one brother, Larry Shanks of Atmore, AL; two half-sisters, Marsha Shanks of Uriah, AL and Patty Shanks of Uriah, AL and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 6, 2017, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Stabler officiating.

Burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were James Agerton, Hunter McKinley, Matthew Shanks, Darrell Sells, Nicklas Agerton and Robert Agerton.

Bo Hassell

February 7, 2017

Bo Hassell, 85, passed away February 3, 2017, at home in Gonzalez, Florida. He was born in Brooklyn, Alabama and attended Evergreen High School where he played baseball and football. After a two year stint in the army, he married his high school sweetheart, Juanita Thomason. Bo worked 31 years at Monsanto in Pensacola as a machine shop foreman, retiring in 1981. He then started a second career in the land clearing business. He spent most of his leisure time deer hunting or getting ready to deer hunt.

He is survived by his loving wife Julie; his two sons, Scott (wife, Sandy) and Rex (wife, Brandy); three granddaughters, Allison, Jenna and Haley; great-granddaughter, Presleigh; and sisters, Elaine Owens and Diane Griffin.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 55 years, Juanita; his parents, Jim and Eloise; and brother, Jim.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at Eastern Gate Funeral Home in Pensacola, Florida.

Sidney Selvin Warrick

Mr. Sidney Selvin Warrick, 76, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, in Pensacola, Florida.

Mr. Warrick was a native of Jay, FL, and has resided in Pensacola, FL, most of his life. He was of the Baptist faith. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Fannie Warrick, three brothers, J.T. Warrick, Dawyan Warrick and Rayford Warrick and sister, Pearl Lambeth.

He is survived by his sister, Lena Mae Odom of Bratt, FL, and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, February 2, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the Flomaton Cemetery.

Elizabeth (Betty) Allen Hilburn

Elizabeth (Betty) Allen Hilburn, age 89, died January 31, 2017.

Betty was born to John and Edna Allen in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on June 30, 1927. She  was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 60 years, Clarke and her daughter-in-law, Kay Hilburn. Betty is survived by her three sons and two daughters, Clarke “Chuck” (Pat) Hilburn, John (Debbie) Hilburn, Rick Hilburn, Barbara Jansen, and Janet (Steve) Sanders, 15 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Betty was baptized in believers baptism on April 14, 1946, at the Second Mennonite Church of  Philadelphia. She was a kind and gentle person who saw the good in everyone. She will be greatly missed and remembered in our hearts forever. Thank you Mom, Granny, Great Grandma, we love you and look forward to the day when we will see you again.

Visitation will be Friday, February 3, 2017 beginning at 10:00 a.m.with the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Brother Wallace Nichols will be officiating. Interment will be at Pine Rest Cemetery, Foley, AL.

Lloyd Edward Byrd, Jr.

Lloyd Edward Byrd, Jr. age 45, of Pensacola, Florida died Sunday, January 29, 2017.

He was a resident of Pensacola for over 45 Years.

Lloyd had many jobs in his lifetime, he was a glass worker as a teenager, built pods with his dad, he was a welder, and iron worker, not to mention a great auto mechanic. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping, NASCAR and enjoyed experiencing it with his friends and family. He experienced life to its fullest. He was the father of two very cherished girls, Kara and Jordan. Last but certainly not least, he was the best brother that four sisters could ever have.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Edward Byrd, Sr.

He is survived by his mother, Joan Rebecca Smith; two daughters, Kara Byrd and Jordan Byrd; and four sisters, Barbara Byrd, Rebecca Bodie, Wanda McFadin, and Cheryl Strickland.

Visitation will be at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Friday, February 3, 2017, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Service will follow at 2:00 p.m.

Gloria Mae Vaughn

Gloria Mae Vaughn, 92, of Century, Florida, passed away peacefully, in her home on Jan. 28, 2017, surrounded by her children, after an extended illness.

She was born in Tunica, Mississippi on Aug. 04, 1924, to Lester Clinton and Vera Nix. She was a graduate of Horn Lake High School in Horn Lake, Mississippi. She married Eugene Vaughn on Nov. 30, 1944 in Hernando, Mississippi. During their marriage of 46 years, they had ten children. She was a homemaker all her life and was proud of her children and grandchildren. She resided in the Byrneville, Florida area where she was a member of Beulah Chapel Assembly of God Church.

Funeral Services will be in Hernando, Mississippi at Brantley-Phillips Funeral Home, on Wednesday, Feb. 01, 2017. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the service at 1:00 p.m. Grave side services will be at the Boggan/Vaughn Family Cemetary in Lewisburg, Mississippi. Officiating  will be her pastor, Rev. Eric Bryan of Century, Florida.

Preceded in death are her parents, two brothers, John Wesley (Jean) Nix Lester Clinton(LC) Nix, Jr. Five sisters, Kizzie (Guy) McAlister, Beatrice (Robert) Byars, Ida Lee Nix, Cerice Nix, and Joy Nix. Her loving husband, Eugene Vaughn, two daughters, Pamela Joy Vaughn and Peggy Sue Vaughn Morgan.

She is survived by eight children, Pat Owens of Madison, Mississippi; Paul (Diane) Vaughn of Evergreen, Alabama; Penny Carter of Brewton, Alabama; Pete (Nancy) Vaughn of Saraland, Alabama; Philip Vaughn of Century, Florida; Polly (Gary) Johnson of Century, Florida; Patrick (Lisa) Vaughn of Jay, Florida and Phyllis (Jimmy) Mathis of Century, Florida. She has sixteen grandchildren, thirty three great  grandchildren, one great, great grandchildren and one on the way, one sister-in- law, Ann Nix of Sanford, Florida, one very special niece, Wanda Colyer of Olive Branch, Mississippi and many othe neises and nephews.

Pall bearers will be her sons, Paul Vaughn, Pete Vaughn, Philip Vaughn and Patrick Vaughn, son-in- law Gary Johnson, great grandsons, Austin Dixon, Dylan Dixon, and Gunnar Carter. Honorary Pall bearers are Jimmy Mathis, Lee Carter, Jeff Gant, John Nix, and Bob Byars.
