Levie Richard Butler

Levie Richard (Ricky) Butler passed away peacefully on April 9, 2017, surrounded by family. Ricky was born on March 12, 1951, and was a lifelong resident of Cantonment. Ricky graduated from J.M.Tate High School in 1969 and later served in the National Guard. Ricky retired from CSX Transportation in 2011 after 34 years of service as a machine operator. Ricky was an avid hunter and fisherman, but more than anything loved being a father and “Paw Paw”.

Ricky was preceded in death by his parents, Ferrell and Virginia Butler.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie; his children, Brad Butler (Joli), Carrie Rice (Brad), Tiffany Ratchford, and Jennifer Bracken (Mike); grandchildren, Brayden Gunter (Jesse), Brooke Butler, Cade, Chase, and Coby Rice, Leighton and Audrey Ratchford, and Parker Bracken; siblings, Diane Garner, Donald Butler, and David Butler, along with many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to honor Ricky’s life was held Thursday, April 13, 2017, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.

The family would like to thank all of his lifelong friends for their friendship, love, prayers, and support.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Chester Purifoy, Sr.

Chester Purifoy, Sr., 63, of Cantonment, FL passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was preceded in death by his four brothers, Ezell Purifoy, Jr., L.D. Purifoy, Ozell Purifoy and Earl Purifoy; sister, Elizabeth (Albert) Tompkins; parents, Ezell and Ethel Purifoy and his mother-in- law, Cleola Conner.

He is survived by his loving wife, Katie Mae Purifoy; daughter, Persephone (Kenneth) Gross; sons, Chester Purifoy, Jr. and Maurice (Alexandria) Purifoy; 10 grandchildren; seven sisters, Lizzie Beasley, Mary (Stanford) Jones, Sarah Doss, Stella Purifoy, Minnie Purifoy and Delois (David) Mason; four brothers, Phillip, Joseph (Sara), Samuel, and Kenneth Purifoy; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, April 14, 2017, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North at 1 p.m. with Robert Gross as the officiant.

Pallbearers will be Tyrone Purifoy, Michael Bryant, Jamal Spencer, Toderic Kennedy, Jerrell D. Mitton and Sammie Hedrick.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ahtione Barker, Tyree Purifoy, Ronnie Bryant, Christopher Hedrick, Tylan Purifoy and Terrence Hedrick.

Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Omega G. Marvil

April 13, 2017

Omega G. Marvil, age 79, of Cantonment, was called home April 10, 2017. She was born January 13, 1938, in Sunflower, MS, to the late William and Ethie Gilliland. Omega was known as a devoted wife and mother, as well as an exceptional cook and meticulous housekeeper.

She retired from AT&T after 31 years of service in Mississippi. Omega was a proud member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the United States Submarine Veterans Association, as well as a long time member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. Omega was known for her generous spirit and volunteer efforts at the Baptist Children’s Home. She was also known for her love of butterflies, sunflowers, and lighthouses.

Omega was preceded in death by her parents; her 14 siblings; and her step-son.

She is survived by her cherished husband of 41 years, Lin Marvil II; children, Bryant (Troy Snider) Shaw and Loretta (Dirk) Langdon; grandchildren, DJ Langdon, Jacob Marvil, and Rodney Marvil; step-son, Lin Marvil IV, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 13, 2017, at 12 p.m., at Faith Chapel North. Rev. Jim Locke will officiate.

Interment was at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola.

Pallbearers were Joe Clarke, Butch Clarke, D.J. Rathmann, Caleb Clarke, Skip Royster and Dave Shirmer.

Honorary pallbearers were her special nieces and nephews; and Matt Carter.

William Thomas McGee, Jr.

April 11, 2017

Mr. William Thomas (Skip) McGee Jr., 73, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017, in Atmore, Alabama.

Mr. McGee was a former resident of Poarch, AL and had resided in Little Rock, AL for the past three years. He attended the Robinsonville Baptist Church. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Poarch Band of Creek Indians and the Emergency Corp. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Thelma McGee and all of his siblings.

He is survived by his wife of 51 and a half years, Sue McGee of Little Rock, AL; one son, William McGee (Alyssia) of Little Rock, Al; two grandchildren, Shawnee McGee and Cheyanne McGee.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 10, 2017, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Jones officiating.

Burial will follow at the Judson Creek Indian Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Chris Blackburn, Jerry Blackburn, Marlon Gunn, James Green, Paul Bell, and Douglas Kelly.

Dorothy Kite

Dorothy Kite, age 74, passed away April 5, 2017. Dorothy was born in Brewton, AL, on January 31, 1943, to the late William Cleve and Lucille Chavers. She was a proud member of New Beginnings Holiness Church, an avid homemaker and was known as a loving but firm mother to her children.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of 43 years, L.D. Kite, Sr.

She is survived by her children, Leavon (Lisa) Sessions of Mobile, AL, Angela (Mardic) Eddins of Century, FL, Annette (David) Mosley of Luling, LA, David Kite, Jr. of Luling, LA, Jonathan (Christi) Kite of Walnut Hill, FL and Steven Kite of Century, FL; sisters, Barbara Bonds of Raines, AL., Judy (James) Dunsford of Grand Bay, MS and Cindy (Charles) Grant of Milton, FL; brother, Darrell “Bull” Chavers of Milton, FL: 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one on the way.

The family will receive friends for visitation Saturday, April 8, 2017, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. with

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Faith Chapel North. Bro. Travis Evans served as officiant.

Dorothy Caraway Henderson

Mrs. Dorothy Caraway Henderson, 68, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017, in Mobile, Alabama.

Mrs. Henderson was a native and lifelong resident of Atmore, AL area and was a member of the Cross Point Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Maurene Caraway and her husband, Donald Jay Henderson.

She is survived by her daughter, Connie Harrelson (Mitch) of Atmore, AL; three brothers, Bob Caraway, Jimmy Ray Caraway (Shona), Johnny Dale Caraway (Tracy) all of Atmore, AL; three sisters, Rebie Lou Blanton (Calvin) of Pensacola, FL, Earnestine Brantley, of Wedowee, AL, and Maureen Searcy of Atmore, AL; three grandchildren, Reagan, Aiden and Rileigh Harrelson of Atmore, AL; best friends, Mary Ridgeway and Eleanor Flowers; and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 6, 2017, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. J.T. Guyton officiating.

Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Eunice Seales Clark

April 6, 2017

Eunice Seales Clark was born in 1922 to William Benjamin and Laura Sena Seakes in Pineville, Florida. She passed away on April 1, 2017, at the age of 95. Eunice attended and graduated from Ernest Ward High School. During World War II, she worked at Brookly Field in Mobile, Alabama, where she met her husband, James T. Clark.

Eunice was an avid baker known for her yeast rolls, pound cakes and oatmeal cookies. She loved the time spent in her vegetable and rose gardens and for many years found time to volunteer as a 4-H leader working with children in Escambia County, Florida.

Eunice is preceded in death by her husband, James; sister, Eula Seals Barlow; and 11 half-brothers and sisters, Eva Seales Pean, Bertha Seales Flowers, Elma Seales Gouchooft, Stella Seales Flowers, Clara Seales Roberson, Ida Seales Smith, Walker Seales, Reese Seales, Essie Seales Bartley, Cassue Seales Chappell and Emery Seales.

Survivors include five children, Barbara Rixey, Connie (Gordon) Raines, Carolyn Green, Tyrell (Rose) and Ann (John) Bingham; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Friday, April 7, 2017, at 11 a.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ronald Hall officiating.

Interment will follow in Dry Springs Cemetery.

Family will receive friends, Friday April 7, 2017, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until service time.

Jack Colbert

April 6, 2017

Jack Colbert, 87, former Alabama resident, entered into his eternal rest at his home in Ocklawaha, Florida on April 2, 2017. Jack was born on June 20, 1929, in Huxford, Alabama to Leroy and Stella Colbert. He married his wife Helen Ward on December 18, 1947, in Andalusia, Alabama. Coming from a family with meager upbringing prepared him for the solider he would become. Jack joined the U.S. Army Air Corps, which became the U.S. Air Force shortly thereafter. He served in three wars. Most of his military career he served as a flight engineer on C124 bombers. After retiring from the United States Air Force he moved and retired from a second career from the city of Orlando Florida in 1990. He spent 22 years serving his Country and he flew all over the world.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Stella; daughters, Linda Diane and Jackie Elizabeth Colbert; and brother, Eugene Colbert.

Jack is survived by his wife, Helen of 69 years; children, Elaine (Terry) Hoffman of Waco, TX, Sheila (Tommy) Berthelot LaPlace, LA, Danny (Mary) Colbert Ocklawaha, FL, Patricia Colbert Ocala, FL, Jack D (Noreen) Colbert Orlando, FL; his sister, Letty Jane Stalvey Orlando, FL; 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at 1 p.m. from the Poplar Springs Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2017, from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. from the church.

Jack’s final resting place will be in Poplar Springs, Alabama in Poplar Springs Cemetery, next to his mother in the family plot with full military honors.

Anne L. Wells

Anne L. Wells, 85 of Atmore, AL, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017, in Bay Minette, AL. She was a homemaker. She was born in West Palm Beach, FL on March 6, 1932, to the late Burns and Lola Smoak Lariscy. She is a member of Atmore First Assembly of God.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wendell Wells, Sr; and eight siblings.

Survivors include two sons, Wendell (Karen) Wells, Jr of Plant City, FL and Kevin (Christine) Wells of Oregon; three daughters, Susan (Melton) Bethea of Atmore, AL, Becky (Terry) Norris of Daphne, AL, Dana Wells of Atmore, AL; one sister, Betty Boyce of Tallahassee, FL and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held Thursday, April 6, 2017, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Don Davis officiating.

Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery.
