Virginia Turk Henry

Myra Virginia Turk Henry, 86 of Walnut Hill, FL, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at her residence. She was retired from Vanity Fair Mill, born in Choctaw County, AL, on February 21, 1932, to the late Ulin B. and Effie Myles Nordan.

She was a member of Pine Barren Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ivan Turk and her son, Robert Glenn Turk.

She is survived by ister Georgia Dukes of Linden, AL, and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday, June 16, 2018, at 2:30 p.m. from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel in Atmore with Bro. Mike Harper officiating. Interment will follow in Serenity Gardens.

Family will receive friends, Saturday June 16, 2018, at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 1:30 p.m. until service time at 2:30 p.m.

Hardy J. Callahan

June 15, 2018

Hardy J. Callahan passed away unexpectedly on June 12, 2018.  He was a trained machinist, loved spending time outside in his flower garden and being with his children and grandkids.
Hardy is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret Callahan.

Hardy is survived by his wife of 27 years, Audrey; son, Joseph (Cheyenne) Callahan; daughter, Kayla Callahan; granddaughters, Raelyn and Emery; brother, Robert “Kit” (Pam) Callahan; sister, Denise Callahan and many friends.

Visitation will be at 1:00 – 2:00 PM on  Monday, June 18, 2018, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.  Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM.  Pastor Ricky Skaggs is officiating.  Interment will be at Gonzalez United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Hubert E. Smith

Hubert E. Smith, 78 years of age, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at Southern Oaks.

Hubert was born February 20, 1940 to the late Eason and Leasie Smith. He was the youngest brother of eight siblings; William (Bill) Smith (Diane), Deloris Smith McCarty, Ladoria Smith Kelley (Alton) and Hazel Smith Maples are still with us and four preceded him in death, E.B. Smith, Jerrel D. Smith, Lanoria N. Smith and Eulene Smith.

Hubert professed his life to Christ and soon after married Paula D. Smith (July, 1993). The family initially lived in Pensacola, FL and later moved to Molino, FL. He was a member of Pine Summit Baptist Church. He loved doing the Lord’s work and he cherished and praised him. He always enjoyed helping others.

Hubert loved to read his bible, praying for and with others, spending time with family and friends, and always wore a smile. He was a loving and caring person, devoted husband, father and friend, always thinking of others first. Of course, as we all know, he had a deep passion for cars. Whether it be his race cars or his long time business of selling them at “Hubert Smith Quality Cars”.

Hubert leaves behind to cherish his loving memory his wife Paula; children, Cindy (Bill) Henderson and Michael Smith; his step-children, Sherry Sopina, Karla (Ben) Bowman, Doug (Renee) Miller; grandchildren, Garrett (Pam) and Zachary (Kendall) Henderson, Nikki Smith, Shelby and Abbi Sopina, Tripp and Brooke Bowman, Dawson and Avery Miller and Jase Peaden; great-grandchildren, Wheeler and Campbell Henderson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. This includes a special mention of Doug Patterson, his racing partner for many years and true friend for over 50 years.

Family, friends, and others whose lives Hubert touched are invited to the visitation from 5:00-8:00 on Friday, June 15, 2018 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North in Cantonment, FL to reminisce, grieve, support each other and, of course, just chat.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North in Cantonment, FL. Burial will immediately follow the funeral at Elizabeth Chapel Community Cemetery in Chumuckla, FL. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Faith Chapel Funeral Home North in Cantonment, FL.

G. H. Bennett

G. H. Bennett (Pete), age 87, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon.  He was surrounded by the love and warmth of his wife and daughters.

G. H. was born May 3, 1931, to Joseph Bennett and Delphia Williams.  He had five siblings, who preceded him in death.

Pete married Irene Ryals on August 26, 1954.  They have been married for 64 years.  They had three daughters together, Sharon Diane (deceased), Angela Darlene, and Cheryl Denise.  They also have a honorary son, Mark Venettozzi.  They have five beautiful grandchildren and four adorable great grandchildren.

G. H. served in the United States Navy for four years.  He retired from International Paper Company after 37 years of service.  He was a member of East Brent Baptist Church.  He belonged to the Cantonment Chapter 322 of Free Masons for over 40 years.

Pete enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and anything that would allow him to enjoy nature.

He lived a full life and will be missed by many.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, June 17, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North, 1000 South Highway 29, Cantonment, FL.  Rev. Dale Patterson will be officiating.

Jewell Christine Hawkins

Jewell Christine Hawkins, age 93, passed away June 12, 2018, at home surrounded by her family.  She was born in Butler County, AL, on June 26, 1924

Jewell was a loving wife and devoted mother of three daughters.  She was employed at Chemstrand Corporation from 1953 – 1961.  Going fishing with our dad was one of her favorite things to do.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Nobie Bates Faust, and father, James Albert Faust; her husband, Frankie Brooks Hawkins; brothers:  William Walter Faust and James Murphy Faust; sisters:  Emma Mae Taylor (Jesse) and Ella Lena Faust.

Jewell is survived by her three daughters:  Shelby J. Farmer (Tony), Cantonment, FL, Barbara F. Daniel, Pensacola, FL and Gwendolyn J. Turner (Oran), Milton, FL.  Her sisters:  Ruby Stinson, Red Level, AL, Dorothy Allen, Cantonment, FL and Sybil Harrison (Woodrow), Cottonwood, AL.  She has six grandchildren:  Angela Russo (John), Kimberly Sanders (Chad), Lisa Griswold (Leonard), Scott Daniel (Jennifer), Kristina Lamb (David), and Alyssa Turner.  Eight great grandchildren; Elizabeth and Rachael Sanders, Brandon and Clara Daniel, Aaron and Allison Russo, Evan and Olivia Griswold.  Sister-In-Law, Mildred Hawkins and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Chad Sanders, Leonard Griswold, David Lamb, Aaron Russo, Brandon Daniel and Evan Griswold.

Funeral Services will be held at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at
3:00 PM.  Visitation will be at 2:00 PM.  Pastor Scott Daniel (grandson) will be officiating.  Interment will be at Bayview Memorial Park.

Dalton Lane Davis

Mr. Dalton Lane Davis age 22, of Uriah passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2018. He was a native of Greenville, AL and worked in the construction industry.

Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his stepfather, Brady Champion.

He is survived by his father, Jerry (Rudy) Davis, Jr. of Monroeville, AL; mother, Brenda Champion of Greenville, AL; step-parents Mitch and Sharon Johnson of Uriah, AL; one brother, Shannon Champion of Uriah, AL and one sister, Michelle Reid of Uriah, AL.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Goodway Baptist Church from 5 until 7 p.m.

Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

Lola Peebles

Mrs. Lola Peebles, age 88, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018, in Pensacola, Florida.

Mrs. Peebles was born in Berlin, Germany and had resided in Bratt, FL for most of her life. She was a member of the Shiloh Freewill Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Henry Peebles.

She is survived her two sons, Willie (Pat) Peebles of McDavid, FL and Robert Franz Peebles of Bratt, FL; two daughters, Mary L. Peebles of Atmore, AL and Becky (Tony) Wheeler of Bratt, FL; seven grandchildren, Kevin Peebles, Keith Peebles, Derick Peebles, Kathy Dickerson, Paula Short, Michael Stacey and Gene Wheeler; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Peebles and Rev. James Sage officiating.

Burial was at the Godwin Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Kevin Peebles, Keith Peebles, Derick Peebles, Gene Wheeler, Jeff Steadham and David Steadham.

Honorary pallbearer was be Danny Steadham.

Jerry J. Dykes

Jerry J. Dykes, 71, of Jay, Florida passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018.

He was a loving father, grandfather and brother. He loved his children and family. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was retired from Sterling Fibers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James LaRue and Arvilla Dykes; son, John Wesley Dykes; friend, Deana Richardson; sister, Barbara Harrison and niece, Ashley McCullough.

He is survived by his daughters, Ruby White and Kimberly (John David) Roberts; sons, Jerry Allen Dykes and James Brian Dykes; sisters, Lou Jean (Lester) Black and Evelyn (Richard) Pope; brother, Larry (Beverly) Dykes; special friend, Ethel Walker; 11 grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at Ebenezer Church with Reverend Earl Harrison and Brother Bobby Carnley officiating.

Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Jack Hodge

June 12, 2018

Jack Hodge passed away on June 6, 2018, at the age of 86 years. Born in 1931 in Castleberry AL, he joined the Army and served in the Korean Conflict, and left with honorable discharge in 1952.

After settling in Molino, FL, he began his career with St. Regis Paper Mill where he was to spend 30 years until he co-founded Plastic Coated Papers Inc. He would later retire from there in 1994. Jack was involved with numerous organizations, including board member of Harvesters Federal Credit Union, Coach for Molino Little League, and he also belonged to his local Masonic chapter. Throughout Jack’s life, he was a devout Christian, and served each church family he was privileged to belong to. He served as a Deacon and mentor at Highland Baptist Church, Deacon at First Baptist Church of Cantonment, and is currently a member of Windy Hill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Peggy Jo Hodge; daughter Susan McCrory, sons, Jackie Hodge and David Hodge; sister Jean of LA; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Challie and Emma Ruth Hodge; eldest son, Aaron Hodge, and eight siblings.

Services were held Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Ricky Skaggs.

Memorial donations in memory of Jack can be made to Windy Hill Baptist Church, Building Fund, 9896 Rebel Road, Pensacola, FL 32526.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Eastern Gate Memorial Funeral Home.
